Basically nothing happens in the episode to draw in viewers till the end and even that wasn't interesting!
Also, they could've toned down the constant praising of Naomi throughout the episode.
Lol yeah that whole Naomi asskissing from everyone was really way too weird. It was almost like she was some cult leader and everyone is in love with her or maybe some creepy mind control (not rly but that would make more sense ,) ) And on top of that they seem to be doing love square ?? -3 poss. love inter. at same time, so cant be love triangle right? -sigh

I'm with you Boba, I'm not totally hooked, so I AM going to give it another couple of episodes before settling on wether to bear with it for the season. I really liked Black lightning because that was set primarily in school because Jefferson was principal his kids went there but it had a real edge, yet they ended that Stargirl has a lot of school but had you hooked from the start. and yet this started like a teen school show that's just meh so far nothing to grab me yet. Honestly I much prefer black lighting compared to Naomi has quite a bit of similarities but black lighting in general feels soooo much more mature in drama and writing. The visual style is honestly pretty good and idk it just looks good in general. Naomi barely uses a filter, the cinematography reminds me to the more late 2000s power rangers shows. The CGI and the VFX is just not it.
I just watched eps 2, and I couldn't get through finishing it. I'd argue Batwoman is far more interesting both in storytelling and visual direction than Naomi. So for me it's a no for me.
@@tauhid9983 You're right it was a far edgier show that felt more grown up even though some of it was in a school/teenager setting. The characters were brilliantly written & Jefferson himself was fantastic he had a great on screen presence. The whole cast, including the bad guy (that looked like he could kick anybodies ass) Tobias Whale. I got to say though I hope Cress Williams gets some other great parts in future shows and movies. But yes after episode 2 Black Lightning was a far superior show!
It felt Disney channel-esque show to me but I am still interested in the mystery! I completely understand some people found it to be too on the nose but will see!

I really agree. The tone was so awkward. How the characters interacted felt so inauthentic to me.
boba out of 10 what would you give naomi episode 1 I would say a 5.5/10
The pilot was crap. Naomi has no flaws, everyone knows her, everyone likes her, everyone wants to be with her, she has everything she wants, perfect relationship with her parents. There's no internal conflict, no personal conflict, no stakes, none of the things that lay a foundation for good drama. The acting is wooden, and worst of all, I still don't know who Naomi is or what she can do. This is a pilot... pilots are what Networks use to gauge whether or not to pick up a show, so therefore, a good pilot has to establish the premise and the protagonists well. This doesn't and I don't know how this got picked up for a series over Green Arrow and the Canaries or Painkiller.
I feel like Naomi is a pretty big Mary Sue right now.

but for me i think because i know nothing about the character or anyone in this show for that matter besides the thanagarian and supes it makes it feel like a mystery to me and i want to see it all unfold
but im sure at the end of the season it will tell me for sure if i love it or hate it depending on how it wraps it up
Without even seeing the show I'm going to guess the cw made at least one of the main characters gay and made sure to reference it at least 3 times in the first hour
I finally got around to watching it. I thought it was good. There are some continuity problems. And, I thought the Questioning tone regarding Naomi’s sexuality was a little forced. I did like Hawkman playing a role as Naomi’s mentor.
I suspect certain people are not keen with this show because Naomi is black and possibly bisexual. Poor girl is a minority in a minority.
Tbh I actually enjoyed the episode but I don’t think it is THAT great since it is just the first episode. I still will watch it since I enjoyed it and I hope that it gets better each episode! And I would like it if you do a review on episode 2

Naomi ,and the parents are great, but the cast has issues with the acting. Overall this episode felt like a part 1 of 2 hopefully the second episode explains about what her powers are.
I knew nothing about the character and decided to give it a watch simply out of curiosity. I'm older than you and found a lot of the episode kind of cringeworthy. Not that it was terrible or anything. I just couldn't relate to what was going on. Definitely not for my age-group. But the last few minutes were interesting, so I decided to give it one more episode. I hope it turns into a Stargirl/Superman and Lois quality show, but I'm not holding my breath on that.
I wasn't planning on watching the show because the idea of both the comic and show just never caught my attention, I wasn't big on Gwenpool and Naomi sounds similar to Gwenpool but less Deadpool and more Multiverse tomfoolery. But I wanted to wait and see what you said because the majority of the time your opinions line up with my own. I think I'm going to pass on this.
Great review! I dont know anything on the character but the pilot wasnt bad. It was alright but it definetly has me intrigued as to how and when everything about Naomi and the plot gets revealed. It is too early to judge and I'll tune in on the episodes. I would like for you to do reviews for this show maybe perhaps until mid way through the season and give your thoughts.

Same, Boba. I guess I could say I am a Naomi expert, considering how little she exists in the comics, but the show wasn't that great. The biggest achievement it made was spark a little interest for me in what they'll do in future episodes

I found the ep aesthetically pleasing and it was a nice change to not have the young protagonist being unpopular, or bullied, or an outcast, which is so common in these stories.
I do tend to be more forgiving of pilot eps for writing which seems unrealistic and acting which isn't quite there, but we'll see how we go.
While this is geared toward people much younger than myself and I felt that quite strongly, by the end of the ep I was intrigued enough to keep watching season 1, at least for now. I think it has interesting potential and will give it more of a shot.

It was okay - has some work to do on a lot of fronts. You can easily tell it's a CW show. I don't love several of the choices so far, even down to the music. But I'll give it a few episodes
I enjoyed this for the most part. But I can understand what you're saying about it being the typical CW show and coming off a little corny. I don't know much about this character, but I was intrigued about some of the reveals. I'll probably keep watching because I'm curious to see where this is gonna go.
You're also right about Stargirl being a very different tone for a high school show.
I think it's as corny and cringey as the current seasons of flash and the later seasons of supergirl
This show reminds me of Mr. Robot with a high school setting, it may be some of the camera angles and the pacing. I'll give it another episode but currently, I'm not too crazy about the show.

The idea is cool. 'Naomi' is not bad.
It was alright should've added more to the first episode to make it more exciting.
I felt the same exact way, I’m going to continue watching just because the comic was interesting so it’s possible that this show could reach a higher potential but as far as first impressions everything you said was exactly how I felt. Hopefully the next episode is better because sometimes great shows will have weird pilot episodes but if the quality gets worst im pretty sure I’ll be forced to give up on it.

I was the Property Master on the show. The flaws in the dialogue and scenes were because of the Director. She was awful and a toxic person to work around.
peacemaker is really good
For a "superhero/comic book show", the pilot didn't draw anything interesting or wows the audience. Probably the weakest pilot I've seen. I'll do the 3-5 episodes rule of seeing how this all plays out.
I have no plans to watch any DC shows on The CW I only watch them if they’re on HBO Max
The dialogue was the only real problem I had with it. Also the Hawkman character is just awkward whenever he is on screen.

Mystery is cool but there is a lack of action. I hope we get to see more of her powers, if she gets any. if naomi don't have powers, i think it will be a boring show. I want to see more but its not quite what i expect from a DC show. Just like you i don't really care about most characters. Naomi, vilain and wing guy are the only 3 characters that resonate with me. Not a fan of perfect best friend. The guys are just there to be love interrest -_- review episode 2 and see how people interract with your video? Maybe ep2 will be better?
It's a really slow pilot. I hope episode 2 and 3 we get to see her do more heroics. I hope the pacing take notes from stargirl. The writing and acting feels wooden at some times

Out of context, and more into the batman. I feel like Barry is going to be the joker or part of a bigger image, because if he was just Stanley, surely he'd be shown in any of the trailers/teaser/ behind the scenes right?
I feel like they are hiding him for a reason, maybe the joker, Hangman or someone else.
This show is everything I hate about modern shows... it's a checklist of what needs to be represented, Zoomer centric, and the Superhero stuff is very surface and shallow level, confusing and not confident in itself. I won't be there for the other eps. And to be honest, like you, I had no real intention to watch the show but decided the Superman connection had me curious. It's convoluted and confusing and not enough to hook me with that.
I gave up on CW but it's annoying listening to people complain about this show not using Tyler's Superman and not even understanding the character is a somewhat multiverse character to begin with. Like take 2 mins to read a wiki people.
I was looking forward to this show. Especially coming from who the show runner is . But mostly, i was Hoping that the cw had found its groove since stargirl and superman and lois. However I had the same complaints as you. I hope for better episodes going forward, but so far I was quiet disappointed with the pilot

Why hasn't anyone mentioned the stupid forest scene. Even tho Naomi is popular and runs the #3 Superman fan site in the world not to mention she's smart cus she's on the debate team. But for some reason she was SHOCKED that Zombado knew about her site and that she was on main street where the superman sighting actually was. Like damn Naomi maybe he googled your name and found your site or asked anyone who came into his dealership, why was she so shook that he knew basic info about her
When they sell CW, they should add the writers and producers to the sale as bonus. Bus if they keep them they'll move to HBO and take their crapy writings there.

Bro you black yourself - you’re entitle to say that - personally, I don’t like how Black / White / Asian or any race is represented anymore.. because if anything it feels sorta regressive now and they call it “Progressive” you literally had a bunch of people Black Panther chanting like apes and living in huts in Africa, Chinese people doing kung fu in Shang Chi and pretty much every act of racism is from a white guy in movies and TV and that’s considered progressive? I have a rule with new shows that I’ll give them three episodes and if I can’t find myself enjoying it enough by that point, I can stop. I just don’t think one episode is enough to be able to do what a brand new show needs to do to hook you in.
Having said that, I agree with your points. To be honest I was rather underwhelmed. I went into this blind, not having viewed all the trailers or anything, so I was just watching for what the show is and not what I was expecting it to be. But it wasn’t really… much.
As I say, I’ll stick with it for another two episodes at least and I would definitely like to know your thoughts on the next episode

I know right. I love Boba's reviews cause he always gives his honest opinion but if a show is just identity politics driven woke trash he doesn't ever come out and say it. Which is fine he seems like a really polite person but most movies/TV shows now a days are just trash. Good story telling has gone out the window for the most part. It's crazy that an awesome show like Superman & Lois is on the same network as shows like this and Batwoman.

I agree with your take on this episode. As far as a first episode is concerned it was Meh. I like Naomi as a character, I like the mystery and the Superman connection but nothing else resonated with me. I don't know much about Naomi from the comics so the curiosity about the character and her powers will keep me watching for a little while to see if things get better.

For a premiere, i wasnt sold either. the entire episode wasnt impactful to me. it stuck to one storyline and didnt really open up doors to other storylines. i have a feeling it will be a slow burn. I get its suppose to be a mystery, but i just hope its not so predictable
