    Hey thank you so much for this fair criticism and response. You’ve actually echoed a lot of my sentiments even though I haven’t explicitly said them in a video per se. To echo a few thoughts:
    No I now wouldn’t work with a deli meat brand or even buy deli meat.
    No I would NEVER be able to butcher an animal or call it a gorgeous animal in that context anymore. Oh man it’s so cringy to watch that now, I legit feel sick over it. I’m embarrassed and I’m sorry for my past self (legit that was shot almost 10 yrs ago).
    Re baby E. Freelee cherry picks these images. And admittedly no that wasn’t a perfect meal even at that age (before one) when I was way more concerned with iron for him so I would feed him more animal products. But in the context of his day where maybe he had a plant based lunch and a carb heavy breakfast, it may have made sense that day. Intuitive eating and flexibility in eating applies to babies too! I also was trying to give a new food every meal so we were stepping outside our usual (mainly plant) rotation. today, now that iron needs are lower and he’s a eating superstar, he eats way more beans and lentils for dinner (omg he wants hummus at every meal 🤦🏼‍♀️).
    Brand partnerships- I totally get that some vegans may be turned off of this. Still I am not vegan (never ever pretended to be so I was never “outted”) so it makes sense to me to work w both vegan and non vegan brands. But FYI, as of right now I have only vegan brands lined up for 2020 🤗
    Documentaries / bias- totally. I like giving both sides when I can. Sometimes those sides can’t be as fleshed out as one would like in a short branded piece on my blog or channel but I do try to be unbiased. I have an upcoming review of game changers coming where I do what I like and what I don’t like and even tho i generally really liked the film there are still flaws and omissions. It doesn’t make it a bad film bc that’s kinda expected but it’s worth discussing them, that’s all!
    Orthorexia is so fucking real it almost took my life. This was not fake news.
    Bottom line: I’m not perfect. I’m still learning and making small manageable changes to my diet to make a healthier earth and also a healthier me. I am a vegan ally and I try to meet others where they are in their journey without judgement. Thanks to those who are understanding that eating MORE plants is a great place to start and for encouraging me to continue on this journey.

      Eva Green Lover A vegan diet removes cholesterol from your diet. Thats about it. Everything else depends on the specific food choices you make. A whole food balanced vegan diet is healthy, as cruelty free as you can get, and best for the environment ;)

    • @19Thunderbird94
      @19Thunderbird94 4 роки тому +42

      @Eva Green Lover Personally I think it's the overall food pattern that matters. Look for people who don't sell one diet as a cure for every illness. You can still be pretty healthy if you eat some meat or even junk food occassionally. If you don't overeat, get lots of fruits, veggies, whole grains and legumes, don't smoke, get enough sleep and exercise, you're already doing *so much* for your health. And of course, if you're vegan make sure you still get balance (I.e. don't replace meat with just carbs, have some tofu, beans and nuts) and take your supplements. You can eat the most whole, balanced diet, but if you don't supplement for B12 you can get very sick.

    • @jennyg5277
      @jennyg5277 4 роки тому +16

      Eva Green Lover there are many benefits to a vegan diet just because you don’t experience them at hand doesn’t make them any less valid. Even if a vegan diet only lowered your cholesterol( which isn’t the only thing it does) that is a huge benefit and can prevent heart disease and strokes, which can be hard and is a huge problem for many Americans. Where you went wrong is believing that just because you are vegan you are healthy, which isn’t true. There are many unhealthy vegans and hundreds of processed vegan food like candy, chips, and chocolate. Being a healthy vegan is more than just giving up meat and dairy.

    • @19Thunderbird94

      @@jennyg5277 And you can eat only whole vegan foods and still be unhealthy. There's this belief that it's only the "junk food vegans" that aren't particularly healthy. If you don't eat legumes you can miss out on essential nutrients (lysine, zinc, iron), most people don't meet calcium needs from greens alone, so maybe have some fortified non dairy milk or yoghurt, make sure you have iodine in your diet (where I live most salt isn't iodized) and selenium (eat a few brazil nuts/week if you don't eat a lot of grains or live somewhere where soils aren't rich in this mineral), eat orange veggies for vitamin A, have a source for omega 3s

      The other thing about Abbey's channel is that she's explained why she's not vegan: she has a history of orthorexia and doesn't feel comfortable giving herself strict rules with regard to "I can eat this, I cannot eat that", because she knows there's a tendency in herself to end up obsessive over these rules and restricting more and more. Like, it's not like she's some big fan of animal cruelty; she's trying to take care of herself and her own needs.

And yes as somebody pointed out, she just had a baby, and you gain weight in pregnancy and need to have more weight in order to feed your baby using your breast milk. There's nothing unhealthy about that and the implication that something is wrong with Abbey's diet because she isn't as thin as she used to be is 1) nonsense, 2) promotes disordered eating and anorexia and 3) very focused on appearances without any knowledge or facts like her actual height and weight. I am a doctor, and I can't tell whether somebody has anaemia by looking at them. That would make my job a whole lot easier, but in the world of real medicine, I need to spend time taking a patient history and doing a blood test. I for one would die on a vegan raw fruit heavy diet cause I’m allergic to most fruits and most veggies, along with beans, wheat, corn and yeast. But since I’m also allergic to eggs and fresh milk, I walk the line of both. Sometimes taking a vegan recipe because it’s egg free but changing the veggies and adding chicken because I can’t get proteins through beans

If the person she is reviewing is vegan she tries to give VEGAN alternatives or things they should take for their health. She always promotes eating vegetables but also eat other things our body needs. I also like how she always gives a warning for people that might be more sensitive with EDs topics. I think people don’t understand that in order for veganism to be a sustainable lifestyle, you have to be tolerant and understand where people are coming from. It’s much easier to have an influence on someone’s lifestyle and food choices if you offer them realistic options and solutions rather than blaming them and asking for a drastic change overnight. This is the rhetoric that Freelee has been pushing for a long time (and let’s not forget her super weird insane videos with Durianrider)...I’ve been a vegan for 6 years and it’s much more rewarding to have an open dialogue with someone and see them change because they want to, I’m not going to shove slaughterhouse videos down their throats just to make a point.

In some places in Germany the ground water is contaminated with all the nitrates from manure on the fields), there's pollution of low income neighbourhoods, climate change, cutting down rain forests for feed crops. I think the biggest change will come when we have cultured meat (a lot of people are just not happy replacing meat with just beans, tofu or even the current meat substitutes on the market that are a) just not the same and b) several times more expensive. Also, about Orthorexia, yes there isn't a diagnostic category specifically called Orthorexia. BUT, there is a wider or broader category in the diagnostic manual (the DSM-V) called Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) which includes the symptoms that make up orthorexia as well as including other similar clinical problems. There are a number of "umbrella categories" in the DSM. It's similar to how Autism is a broad spectrum category that includes higher end autistic symptoms as well as lower-functioning end autistic symptoms and all in between; so just because, let's say HFA (high functioning autism) isn't a separate category in the DSM doesn't mean that it's fake and doesn't exist. Many people have Asperger's or some other form of HFA which are diagnosed under the umbrella category. Orthorexia is a real thing, and it's NOT just selective or picky eating.

No diet should have a one size fits all approach, if you want to change diets consult a registered dietitian and doctor, because vegan diets and vegetarian diets seem like a good idea, but it may only be a good idea for some not all. We also have to think of food deserts. Some climates are not conducive to growing fruits and vegetables, take the Canadian North for example, fresh produce is incredibly expensive there, so indigenous people have resorted to their hunting past. Those communities rely on hunting animals for their food, but indigenous people understand the environment and animals better than we do. Let's stop victimizing people who can not have a vegan diet. Personally I help reduce animal suffering by buying cruelty free make up, and eating some vegan and vegetarian meals during my week. People do not have to go vegan to help the planet. I love Abbey because she fully understands how to read medical studies and interpret the data ( I am also able to understand studies, conduct studies and statistics because I went to school to get a degree in Sociology which is technically a science, good old scientific method) most people do not know how to interpret data in studies so we need individuals like Abbey especially when it comes to dietary health. Abbey understands the data because data is written for academics and people who work in a specific field of work and not ordinary people.This went a little off topic from your video, and as far as vegans go you are one of the most educated, Freelee is well on a completely different planet all together.

I don't personally vibe with her but I do appreciate how she, a person who studied hard for her title of registered dietitian, breaks down what's really important in someone's diet. Of course people should believe her, that's her field of choice and she worked/works hard to keep up to date with her field of knowledge. I'm not wording things correctly, I need sleep. Freelee's logic: "Any one who isn't 100% an ethical vegan, discussing the downsides of a HCLF/raw till 4 diet and don't support me is a shill for meat and dairy." But also "i can be critical of more successful and popular influencers who aren't vegan, as they don't look like me and are negatively impacting their young female audience into disordered eating habits.
    I MUST STOP THEM REEEEE!! Having any weight fluctuations is simply because you are starving yourself and not eating enough because you're not a HCLF vegan like me and if you want to consistently skinny then eat like me!"
    Also Freelee "Don't criticise me cause you hate "the truth" slapping you in the face and you are jealous of my results and hard work. I'm a better vegan that you are because I do for the animals and don't give a fuck about your feelings. But also, i have helped 100's of people lose weight and i don't promote disordered eating cause look at me! I'm not fat, you'e not doing raw till 4 the wrong way! Just harden the fuck up, stop making excuses, cut the bullshit and you will feel 100% as you are 100% in control of everything in your life and that you can control your feelings and emotions and snap out of depression or anxiety."
    Claims to be a feminist and being part of the sisterhood, yet shames some women for the way they look, if they personally choose to (and not forced to do so) shave, wear makeup or wear high heels. I am aware that wearing high heels, shaving or wearing makeup isn't necessary at all but may perpetuate unrealistic body standards and poor self-esteem issues. Freelee should also be aware that she promotes unrealistic body standards herself by stating women should be skinny like her, have a thigh gap and having no periods is good.
    She is in no position to tell others how to lose weight, as she has never been overweight/obese in her life and not has the education/training to understand nutrition. BTW the Australian Institute of Fitness has no record of her attending the college and she made it up to boost her credibility.

I'll watch your videos, Jenna and julien, even a few other vegan centered channels think to myself I can cut out meat more often. Then I watch freelee and I'm back to the mentality veganism is a cult, she undoes so much work by demonizing others...when she picked on Jenna about Graham crackers she called herself out on in the video. So all the good Jenna and especially julien does with their fun, vegan food videos is undone because julien wasn't paying attention and grabbed the wrong box, Jenna acknowledged it to her very large audience but they are terrible vegans. Freelee makes vegans look bad, she's like a woman tearing down another woman for being a working mom then saying she's a feminist. Huh?

It doesn't make sense to continue to take in garbage like Freelee, especially if she's reversing good intentions. This is a huge problem with vegans in socism media & why I pretty much don't consume it. I subscribe to Liv B & this channel & literally no other social media anywhere. Hey, I think you should check out Aga in America. She's a polish youtuber, but she lives in the US. So, basically, she's a raw vegan fruitarian (she eats mainly fruits). She has two kids, one is like 3,5 yrs old and one is 14 months old. She feeds them only fruits too, they're really skinny (especially the younger one) and he also has symptoms of rickets. This is really sad. She fed her son breast milk from other vegan women at first, but then she stopped and started to feed him some vegan-homemade "formula" instead of real formula milk. She's quite popular in Poland, people talk about her a lot and try to help her children, but well, it's not working. She still thinks fruitarian diet is the best diet on Earth and she believes it's healthy and can cure everything. She even wrote a book full of fake "facts"! Of course, Aga doesn't "believe" in doctors, she admitted that her kids have never seen a doctor and they aren't vaccinated. I honestly feel very sorry for them. There was plenty of videos showing what her kids eat in a day, it's only smoothies, juices and raw fruit, she deleted some of them when people noticed how unhealthy they look. I think this case needs to be more popular, the poor children are in danger

      She made her Instagram private now because of all the “negative” ( concerning) comments . Both her and her husband need to go into a long term eating disorder program and someone in their family that loves the kids needs to start adding a balanced diet with eggs, cheese, meat and dairy. They don’t want CPS involved. They make a living off this diet it seems. I’m mean, what do they even do for money I wonder. These UA-camrs that expose their babies to the world shoving cameras in their face is beyond anything I’ll ever understand. Before I post my kids I first ask them if they like the pic and my account is private. Most the time they hate the pics I love ( such a mom thing)) but I respect that and don’t post anything they don’t want me to.

    I started watching your channel and Abbey's around the same time a few months ago, and one of the things I love about both channels is that you guys are clearly open to criticism and admitting when you're wrong and improving yourself. Some of Abbey's recent videos have bits that were filmed later in a different location, because she changed her mind about something between filming and editing. You do a similar thing with a voice over when you realize something might have been left out or unclear in your video. I don't know if Freelee has ever showed that much willingness to change.
    That being said, if Abbey still has her older stuff up and monetized, it's fair game for criticism. Some of her old videos are super cringey, and don't match with her current views and presentation style. For me, the bit where freelee hit the nail on the head was wrt to Abbey's sponsorships, where she'll use buzzwords like keto in a product promo, even tho she avoids diet lingo in the rest of her content. I don't blame her for taking sponsorships, but I wish she was a little more thoughtful about the ones she accepts.
