Speaking of supplements - do you take B12? I heard from this long termp plant based doc that he never supplemented and never had any issues - nor his blood tests showed any issues. Studying "the holy fathers" (hermits) I see they had no health issues without supplements (quite the contrary, fasting and eating plant based is healing it seems) - I've never witnessed issues personally.

I did the 30 day vegan challenge 4.5 years ago and I will never go back to eating meat and dairy again. I used many of the arguments that you hear, it’s too difficult, too extreme, too expensive. I was also meticulous about my diet, at 20%,60%,20% (having tried a few other ratios). Main carb sources were whole grains, sweet potatoes and legumes, I usually avoided nightshades and supplemented hemp protein. 2500kcal a day. I felt "clean" if not entirely 100% during the first 6mo to a year, then steadily felt more anemic. After that I supplemented some B12 (inb4 "you were never vegan), and it helped. But after well over a year, I decided it wasn't worth it and went pescatarian. Now I don't restrict any types of meat, though I only eat grass fed red meat. And I finally feel like my whole self again!

Tasha Gross idk if you’re picky or not but if you like veggies you can always make a loaded veggie salad with Italian dressing! There are quite a few other vegan dressings too just make sure you always check the ingredients! :) also a lot of pasta is vegan but there are also chickpea based pastas, lentil based, etc. Plus marinara is usually always vegan too! Burrito bowls are a go to, brown rice, black or pinto beans, lettuce/cilantro, tomato, corn, salsa, lime, you can pretty much add whatever and get creative! Beans are packed with protein and it’s pretty inexpensive to make as well :) one more really good one is homemade tomato soup, if you have a blender you can just get some canned or fresh tomatoes, onion, garlic, cook them in the oven or on the stove and throw it all in a blender then back on the stove again, served with salad or grilled cheese is my favorite but vegan alternatives tend to be pretty expensive so just be careful! I hope this helps! :) sorry if it’s super long haha

It's funny because I feel the same way about the trillions upon trillions of insects annihilated every yr through farming. Anyone who says cows and pigs are special but bugs and other animal life dont count are nothing but a bunch of animal racists.
All life is precious. And it's all part of one ecosystem. No species is better or "higher" than any other. Even plants are living things. I also dont buy the argument that it's ok to kill something as long as it can't feel pain or not intelligent enough to process what's going on. Does that mean that it's ok to kill someone in a coma because they can't feel it? It is alright to kill the mentally retarded because they dont understand? The only real answer is that we are extinguishing another life form, plain and simple.
Having tried veganism twice myself, I came to the conclusion that in order to sustain life, we must take life whether we're eating meat or veg. The unpleasant truth that many ppl are unwilling to acknowledge is that we are evolved to be killers.
I've since gone back to eating the way our ancient ancestors did. I believe if the Native Americans could kill stuff for food while still living in balance with nature, then so can we. Countries like France and Spain seem to be able to produce high quality meat without wrecking their environment. It can be done.
If it makes you feel any better, 30 yrs from now, most of the meat in the world will be lab grown. Synthetic meat, created from plant matter (like the Impossible Food corporation is making now), is most likely, the future of food.
      Have a good day

If it's about the environment, then supporting agraculture and pesticide usage is doing more harm then the co2 production of animals. But if you want do it for ethical reason(no killing) then sure vegan would be good. The thing vegans usually go from one harm to another. There are only two ways to solve this problem 1. self sustain yourself with a permagarden(and also chickens if you want to eat eggs.) 2. buy groceries from good sources that use no pesticides. But if it comes from monoculture that will be nearly impossible. So choice 1 would be the only real way to help the environment. Indians actually have a rare ability to process vegetables, as they are 100 generations deep in vegetarian based diet. Nearly everyone else doesn't have this DNA, and veganism can be harmful to certain people. Humans have been consuming meat for 20 million years. Veganism has existed as long as computers. I never thought I could be a vegan. Then one day I realized I could and should. Spiritual awakening. I was 53 at the time. I immediately became more happy and peaceful. That was unexpected. Now being a vegan is a source of pride and gratitude for me. It cheers me up when I feel beaten down. I can know I’m doing something good for other beings and the earth. I hug my dog. I watch all the little creatures outside. I am at peace with them because I am no longer a predator. These are gifts I will never squander. Even if I have to go without food sometimes. I’m not afraid of being hungry. Fasting has become another link in the chain of my awakening. Easier on my body and easier on the earth. Even if it’s hard and even if there’s sacrifice it’s worth doing.

@@marisellopez6022 Great question! Firstly, take it slow when you transition so you get used to the changes you are making. Maybe go vegetarian or pescatarian first before going vegan. And to be honest with you, generally, you only need that motivating push the first couple of months of going vegan. After you push through the initial transitioning period, it becomes second nature. The things that really helped me stay motivated are - 1. Getting excited about trying out vegan recipes. I love cooking so I tried to focus on the food that I get to eat on a vegan diet rather than what I cannot. If you miss the taste of meat, try some good vegan mock meat! There are so many recipes and great tasting vegan alternatives out there nowadays. 2. GET PREPARED FOR SOCIAL DINING. This is the most awkward and demotivating part, people you once ate meat with now dining with the new you, the vegan you. Try doing some research on the menu of the restaurant you will visit to see what vegan options they have and what can be veganized. If it is a house party, bring your own food and make sure it's not a boring salad! BUT it is something you actually really enjoy :) and LASTLY, if it becomes extremely hard for you to stay motivated, rewatch the documentaries, podcasts or youtube videos highlighting Why you should go vegan. Remind yourself of the reasons, the ethical environmental and health-related reasons that got you motivated in the first place. Hope this helps!

I switched to vegan food 6 weeks ago and have lost 2 kg without changing any portions or exercise habits (very few 😭😅 and it was also not my intention to lose weight) but I have never eaten more (and more guilt-free) in my life. Vegetables, whole grains, fruits and nuts are naturally low in saturated (!) fat. Especially switching to whole grains (whole wheat bread, brown rice, whole wheat pasta) has completely taken away my urge for snacks between meals and that is a huge unintended change. @The V word oh sure the best way not to kill and rape animals is to kill and rape animals right 👍
Living animals eat food. We plant plants, feed them to the animals and eat the animals. In this process a lot of energy is "wasted" due to the upkeep of the animals. It is more environmentally conscious to directly consume the plants directly.
And it is not necessary at all to consume animal products. The only, and the only thing is B12 which is supplemented for animals. Animals do not magically produce B12, it is supplemented for them. Therefore vegans just do the same thing when they supplement it, without making and extra step through the animal.
Considering the argument of of buying local, it isn't sustainable if you take a look at our current meat consumption in the world. It just isn't the case and most people don't buy from local farms.

If you look in the Bible, see Genesis 1:29 God gave Adam and Eve fruits, nuts, and grains to eat in the Garden of Eden. After they had sinned God included vegetables, see Genesis 3:18. In Heaven we will not eat meat, see Revelation 21:4, no death. It is clear God never intended for mankind to depend on animal flesh to sustain life. Many top athletes have gone vegan because a vegan diet greatly increases athletic performance and strength. Seventh-day Adventists on average live many years longer than average Americans because they shun tobacco products, alcoholic beverages and unclean meats. At home i follow a complete vegan lifestyle and most of the time also when going out (there has been an increase of vegan options). I think its way better to be vegan most of the times and allow for adjustment, than being vegan for one year, making a mistake and then going back to eating meat everyday again :)

I wouldn't say I "push" people towards veganism, but instead ask them questions to get them thinking with the hope that they will eventually come to their own ethical conclusion. Questions such as "Do you think it's normal that adult humans drink another species breast milk?" Or "Can you humanely slaughter someone who doesn't want to die" When I do this in person, it's normally because they started the conversation, not me, however I also do outreach based activism and have gotten many strangers to strongly consider going vegan as well as my closest friends. I've also got my parents to both go vegan and they're so much healthier for it.
The reason I do this is because about two years ago I went on a whole foods plant based diet for health reasons and it improved my health so dramatically, I'm now mentally and physically so much better than I used to be and I want other people to know that this can seriously change their lives for the better. The other reason is that before going plant based, I did not care about what happened to animals in farms at all, I wouldn't allow myself to think much about it, but since I stopped consuming dead flesh and the secretions of animals who had been through hell, as well as all the antibiotics, pus, blood, faeces and so on, I began to become way more conscious of the animals and the planet. Consuming these things was holding me back from becoming aware of the truth and I think that's the same with most people.
Here in the UK so many people are waking up and going vegan every single day.

I'm a chef of 35 years and have recently retired to Belize and have transitioned to vegan for economical and environmental reasons.
You need to understand that with a vegan diet you must balance protein in your nutritional needs with beans, grains and legumes in every meal. You can't just do raw vegetables and fruits- your body will always tell you that it is still hungry because you haven't fed yourself any protein. Protein is a major element next to vitamins, enzymes , carbohydrates and minerals.
Cook your grains and beans in large batches to use in salads and cut down on energy and prep time consumption. Explore as many new seasonings and types of grains, fruits and produce as possible- your in a food Mecca and have a ton of new options to explore.
Organic virgin olive oil is the main oil to use- never palm oil- that's the industry killing our rain forest habitats.
Learn to cook everything fresh- it's easier than you think with a few basic techniques and good tools.

I'm on Caye Caulker and produce variety is a challenge. The local red beans are great- I've designed a few simple recipes for a variety of legume, bean and grain salads that I keep on hand. Just do the local rice with some beans on a salad for lunch and dinner.
The weather is hot so we eat cooler salads most days.
If you in Belize city you'll have a greater variety of produce on hand. Look to get some quinoa- it's a grain that was the cornerstone of the Aztecs, easy to cook and keeps great in the refrigerator. My go to dressing for my salads is olive oil and either fresh lime juice , balsamic or apple cider vinegar. Always onions and garlic and fresh parsley and cilantro.

Cool video. You have a unique style of delivering content. I personally went vegan 4 years ago and never regret it.
    Tip 1
Make sure to eat larger volume of food. Plant-based diet has less caloric density.
You can easily lose weight that way.
    Tip 2
If you have cravings for meat you can try chicken flavourate tofu(you can make one yourself). Also buckwheat burger with meat spices is an easy home-made meat replacing meal.

I must be the only 100% plant-based diet and vegan out there who still cannot lose weight on a vegan diet. Well losing weight so slowly.....!!!! I went vegan for the animals! Health, planet and other humans! Sigh yes even other humans deserve compassion even if they attack and swear at us for being vegan even when I try to hide it!

Veganism does effect mental health. Can't express that enough. I was raised on a non vegan diet and was always a C student. I recall always feeling lethargic after class and never could improve my grades no matter how hard I studied. Now after three years of veganism, I'm in medical school and have always been top of the class. Received the highest test scores recorded (to the point where my exams aren't released.) My information retention shocks the hell out of me. 👌🏼👍🏼 I never expressed this because I though it might of sounds a bit far fetched but it's the only change I've implemented into my lifestyle. 🌱

I suffered from metabolic syndrome (obesity, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, and high blood sugar). I went whole food plant based no sugar oil or salt and I lost 65 pounds, all my conditions greatly improved, my gums stopped bleeding, and erections and energy returned. I used to have an appetite that was never satisfied; whole foods cured it. I no longer use a sleep apnea machine. Finally, the food is cheap-Beans, lentils, rice, potatoes and seasonal apples. Also, I save money by not having to buy pills or visit the Doctor. I am thankful to all the vegans who suffered attacks to reveal the truth to me.

Hi, I found these two websites helpful:
      - The first is a link to a Physicians Committee for plant based diets. It has lots professional and medical nutritional information for athletes, pregnant women, normal people, by physicians and dietitians licensed to practice in the U.S. Licensure is important! www.pcrm.org/good-nutrition/plant-based-diets
      - The second contains a link to Challenge 22 + which is a Facebook group with registered dietitians and mentors who can help you. challenge22.com/
      - Uh no I’m not a bot! I just like to be anonymous as vegans get attacked by others who do not eat a plant based diet or animal free lifestyle.
      Hope these help. Thanks.

Vegan for 5 yrs now; I had a smooth transition because my diet comprised mostly veg anyway and I wasn't eating much processed food, but fibre intake definitely went up and like you, initially there was a learning curve but I can definitely say that brain fog lifted almost immediately also blood sugar fluctuations, which was great. If you live in a lot of countries in Europe, say Italy e.g. people go to the market almost daily; we're not used to that here with supermarkets everywhere and very few farmer's markets. I shop 1x a week, have my pantry staples figured out, do batch cooking which means I really don't spend much time preparing meals the rest of the time, although I'm a born foodie and love checking out recipes and sometimes replicating things I ate as a kid in a vegan version -- my family is mediterrainan (never could spell that word) and middle European originally so I missed stuffed peppers and greek stuff and Serbian bean soup and goulash and tzatziki and guess what? So easy to veganise them. I don't go nuts over food restrictions but not that interested in mock meats etc anyway. By contrast, my sis was ethically vegan but found a real problem with legumes so she's reverted to a mostly plant-based diet but does get her protein from meat these days -- 80/20 better than nothing; we're all on our own path and everything counts. Good for you!!!!!
