This was so informative. I'm almost a total newbie, read up on Ableton and completed a few basic tutorials, and this was spot on for telling me what I needed to know and learn.
After countless requests to make a new tutorial on how I create my mashups, it's finally here! In this tutorial I teach you guys how I made my popular "Best Party Song Ever" mix. I've even included a zip file in the description so you can make it as you follow along! Make sure to read the description for even more useful tips and tricks! Please comment and let me know if you found this at all helpful? I'll be replying to people in the comments for as long as I can! Thanks and enjoy! :) #Ableton #Mashup #DJ #HowTo #Tutorial
Sir. I'm gonna show you song mashup theory C C#/Db D D#/Eb E F F#/Gb G G#/Ab A A#/Bb B C minior. Am I correct or wrong sir. I just wanna know sir. Please
i gave up using ableton a while ago. i thought id use it again last night to make the mash up process quicker (i hate using new software, its like being a beginner all over again) and using it along with mixed in key or virtual dj has made things so much easier. thank you very much!
Been making mashups for years, always happy to learn something new even in a beginner tutorial! Appreciated the tip of the marker right-click to set to 1, was always a tedious thing that I’m glad I know the shortcut for! The fine tuning of the detuning also helped!! You also demystified major/minor keying for me! Thanks!!!!
His description of Major vs minor is mislabeled. What he is calling "minor" is actually referred to as "flat"...as indicated by the "b" next to the key. The opposite of flat is "sharp", which is indicated by the "#" symbol. An actual minor key is comometely different...but every major scale DOES have a relative minor. It is 3 semitones below the root of the key. So in his choice of key center for this mashup, which is D#/Eb, the relative minor is Cm. So you could mash in a song that is in the key of C minor and it would also sound fine.
***** It won't let me reply to you directly so I hope this works but I mention everything to do with BPM at 1:28 - 5:18. Also when adjusting pitch make sure you've changed the pitch style from "Beats" to Complex Pro to stop it changing bpm.
Thanks Raheem! I'll deffinately look into these new programs or audio mixing. I started working with audio after hearing your 2012 super mach-up. I used your work as an inspiration and learned to work with Audacity (loving it so far).
Nice tutorial. Only one observation: Db is not D minor, it's D flat. Now D flat can be major (Db) or minor (Dbm). If it was D minor, you could mix it with its relative major key, wich is F major.
@@RaheemD Thank you so much. I got ableton live 11 yesterday (Intro pack btw) and there are some things I don't really get, so a bigger tutorial would be so helpful, thank you raheem.
But how do you get the instrumentals and acapellas? Do you download them, or you separate them in some program? What is the type of the file? MP3? I guess stereo is a must xD
i get up to around the seventh minute and I sync the whole song with the instrumental. I then push it forward and regain all of the beginning of the track that I had lost. it then goes completely out of sync and I cant sync with the Acapella. at 7:26 the video cuts and the beginning of the whole song is back how do you do this without messing up the sync. please help :(
In that Kidy Virtual Dj Program That "Disc Thingy" Is A Platter As On a Real Vinyl Turntable And It's Not Reliable For Analyzeing The Tracks Bpm's OR Do It The Old Fashioned Way Like Propper Dj's Do Count The Beats In A Bar As Most Dance Music Is 4/4 . For example, if you counted 24 beats in 15 seconds, multiply 24 by 4 = 96. The song's tempo is 96BPM. You multiply by four, because 60 seconds divided by 15 seconds = 4. And If You Was A Real Dj You Would Know ALL Your Songs In Your Collection When The Breakdowns Are In Them And What Key They Are In And Bpm And Mixing In And Out Points Are Not Realing On Ableton Or The Sync Button As That Is Part Of Knowing Music Theory Like You Said At The Start Lmao.
It's reliable enough to get a basis, I can do BPM by ear but I use VDJ for convenience or use songbpm the website. At the end of the day, I do everything by ear and this is a tutorial for straight up beginners and I believe it to be a good guide. If this doesn't help you then I kindly suggest you go the old fashioned route and visit a library for a book tutorial! Good luck.
Dont need a book m8 I've been dj'ing with vinyl for over 3 decades problely before yer mum and dad even tho of you and not because i use a pc and call my self a DJ just because i use the Sync button and let the pc do all the work lmfao. Some folk cant handle criticism why put vides on here if you dont like anybody to say owt sounds like you just want folks to lick yer arse and say "WOW ANT YOU GOOD " !
Because its a free world and i can look were i want m8 and i came across this video because i was watching another ableton indepth video Why !! And i never said i know everthing has the saying goes "we never stop learning" !!
Db is D flat majeur. Dbmin is D flat mineur. U also made another mistake with the semi-tone list of C of C majeur.; There is no Db min in C.. Nonetheless interesting tutorial. 👍🏽 Btw tnx 2 ur mistake I’m starting to unravelling this in key thing in the daws. U should try to lower F with one semitone to E. It’s the same as Dbmin. U went 4 lower and it still did not sound right even after raising with 2 more semitones.
Nigel Brian Mashups 2 Okay, maybe that's my personal problem. Cause whenever I pitched an acapella or instrumental the beat also changed. Actually, I used another software for pitching and mixed songs in Audacity too. Now I have to try more professional program :) Btw, your mashups are awesome. I've subscribed. :)
It is, change the project bpm to 145bpm, and put 150bpm in the sample box for the 150bpm track and 140 for the other and they should meet in the middle providing they're the correct tempos and you've synced them.
was out of key because Db means D flat and not Dminor. good video but as you said maybe you should brush up on your basic music knowledge before making a video.....hope im not the first person to see this mistake

What I tend to do is watch this during COVID lockdown
Flats aren't minors
+Stephen St. Pierre He isn't musically trained.

the 'b' after a note means flat. if its minor, it will say either minor, or a '-' next to the letter.
i love remixing in live its the best daw for remixing imo some people like fruity loops it all depends on preference but anyhow nice video.
Very useful, thanks!
Tanks very nice mashups
Oh it's Best Party Song Ever, thanks.

correction: Db is D flat not minor. Kl video!
im good i'll find my own way :)
thanks bro..
How does one manually turn down the bpm of a song? And also, when I adjust the semitones, it makes the song slower...?
yes, Yes, YES!
Great thks
Raheem D did you buy Ableton apps?
Is there any chance you may make a new tutorial, but for the Ableton live 11 version pls?
I do plan on doing another tutorial in the future, bigger and better. Most of the tips in this tutorial should still follow Ableton 11 though
@@RaheemD Thank you so much. I got ableton live 11 yesterday (Intro pack btw) and there are some things I don't really get, so a bigger tutorial would be so helpful, thank you raheem.
thank you im a newbie at this stuff so this is really helpful!
Where do you get your studio acapellas for the songs?
Hey!!1 where did you get those acapella and instrumentals
I have followed your steps but keep finding my songs sound really deep or high pitched! Any ideas?
I thought Db was D flat/C# O_o? please answer back
Lloyd Louie You're right, I made a slight error there!
Raheem D oh my god... Fuck... Everytime i export it changes Bpm

Bro you should make tutorial on phone too
Hi Raheem, I don't see/have a transposition icon
But how do you get the instrumentals and acapellas? Do you download them, or you separate them in some program? What is the type of the file? MP3? I guess stereo is a must xD
Normally, you would just download them and use a youtube video to converter mp3 thing online if you're downloading from UA-cam
Ok, thank you!! :)
where did you get your acapellas ??
My Ableton doesn't have the Complex Pro option? Only Beats, Tones, Texture, and Re-Pitch. What do I do?
call me b You need the ABLETON SUITE version to have the Complex Pro option.
Does the Seg BPM for every song need to be the same as the bpm in the top left?
may i know how and where you get the vocals only please ?
Where do you get your songs?

Do you know any good apps (free or not) for an iPhone to make good quality mashups? I dont have a computer

which ver of app?

In that Kidy Virtual Dj Program That "Disc Thingy" Is A Platter As On a Real Vinyl Turntable And It's Not Reliable For Analyzeing The Tracks Bpm's OR Do It The Old Fashioned Way Like Propper Dj's Do Count The Beats In A Bar As Most Dance Music Is 4/4 .

How do you change an e flat minor to major?
where do you get your studio acapella songs?
Chiggy Char Google is your friend :)
but wait what do you tend to do
What's the bpm detector called?
It's Called Do It The Old Fashioned Way Like Propper Dj's Do And Count The Beats In A Bar As Most Dance Music Is 4/4 .
Virtual DJ
Do u know how to make empty stadium audio?
stellalymy02 Play around with the reverb effect.
what is that dj thing called
Trying to make better edits n mash ups is the files still on the go to do the mash up with this video long shot

It's Called Do It The Old Fashioned Way Like Propper Dj's Do And Count The Beats In A Bar As Most Dance Music Is 4/4 .
VirtualDJ 8
Thanks
1 year later igot an answer haha
or download a metronome app on your phone and tap the beats
can you make an als file so then I can just download the entire soundtrack
Question: you have to pay this?
For Ableton? Yes. Unless you know how to get it other ways...
who else is watching this in 2017?
Do you pay to buy this software?
Nigel Brian Mashups 2 Is it expensive? Because I found Audacity sucks at everything.....
Yeah, it sucks at pitching...and beat changing
Nigel Brian Mashups 2 Okay, maybe that's my personal problem. Cause whenever I pitched an acapella or instrumental the beat also changed. Actually, I used another software for pitching and mixed songs in Audacity too. Now I have to try more professional program :) Btw, your mashups are awesome. I've subscribed. :)
Eric Ho (you could always torrent Ableton but..)
What's that programs name ?
Ableton Live 9
what is the name of software
Ableton Live 9
It won't let me drag any other song files into ableton except for the first song.
They might be an unsupported format like m4a. Make sure they're MP3 or WAV
a youtube instrumental?
What mashup is that at 0:03?
The one he made...
What if a song's bpm is variable like West Coast by Lana del Rey?
Eric Ho That's slightly more difficult, West Coast has two BPM's it's not variable though, you would have to manually warp the song to one BPM.
Db...the saddest of all b's.
Even when I change the BPM in the sample's box it doesn't fit with the project tempo :(
+mmazz414 Either it's not the correct BPM for the song or you need to place your warp marker at a kickbeat.
+Raheem D Well, one song is 150bpm, and the other is 140, I'm trying to meet in the middle at 145. Is that possible?
It is, change the project bpm to 145bpm, and put 150bpm in the sample box for the 150bpm track and 140 for the other and they should meet in the middle providing they're the correct tempos and you've synced them.
+Raheem D They are the correct tempos - I used my Traktor software to help. But the syncing is not working :(
mmazz414 hmmm is it that they gradually fall out of sync or they don't sound in sync to begin with?
someone maybe knows how to get an 105 bpm song to 128 bpm? want to change the acapella but the warping doesn't seem to get the song to 128 bpm :/
You can use audacity it has an easy change of tempo
was out of key because Db means D flat and not Dminor. good video but as you said maybe you should brush up on your basic music knowledge before making a video.....hope im not the first person to see this mistake
literally the worst intro ever
little_cavalier _snare pure cancer
flat not minor god i really irrritates me
+Raheem D I was wondering if you could help me make a mash up for a Flash mob that I'm planing on doing.
The way you organise your music to make sure its in sync with ableton is terrible
