    Good advice - when I add in drums over beat-less intros/outros my go-to is to try and find a clean minimal drum loop (or parts of ome) from the actual track I'm editing, so that it fits better because it has the same production aa the rest (reverb, compression, delay or whatever) of the track

    You can also turn off warp by clicking off Warp in your samples Tool Tab and then tap the tempo, it will keep it from jumping around. Then you can re-enable warp by clicking Warp back on.
    If you highlight the entire sample, you can input the BPM in the BPM field that is also in the Tools Tab inside the sample. You will need to do this before clicking Warp back on, lol.
    The algorithm kinda sucks, so I find myself zooming in and manually Shift + Mouse drag to fine tune it.

      I haven't tried it yet. Ableton Live has been in development for over a decade, so it probably has more features since Serato Studio is brand new. I'm always up for trying new things though. I'll post a review if I get a chance to play with it.😁

    • @DJCouchKing

      You can consolidate. You don't really need to since it will be rendered as one continuous audio file on export.

    • @DJCouchKing

      Consolidate creates a new audio file. Paste is non destructive. If you repeatedly consolidate files it will make the project take up unnecessary space.

      I'm sorry, are you talking about a build up/break down/drop? That's more of a production thing than an edit. Basically you need to divide the MIDI or audio into increasingly smaller note values, like 8ths/16ths/32nds etc. Then have it go back to the main rhythm on the track.

    If I'm making a mashup or transition where two tracks are playing over each other, this causes the master to clip. Also, if I have to warp the track (for tempo change) it also clips. Can you recommend any techniques for fixing this without ruining the loudness? I've read of a few different ways to do this and it all includes limiters and compressors (which I don't mind using). I'm just looking for a tutorial on that and can't find one:/ Any help?

    • @DJCouchKing
      @DJCouchKing  5 років тому +3

      When you warp a track Ableton Live turns on the Hi-Q sample rate conversion. That can cause clipping, and should only be used if you're transposing a sample. As far as blending the two without sacrificing loudness, I'd start by EQing the the low end out of one of the tracks, then adjusting the volume and using a limiter/compressor.

    • @DJCouchKing

Also I'd definitely hope you don't then export is as as mp3, performing the same compression algorithm on an already compressed file will be totally horrendous. I don't understand what you are doing if you are not warping the track. If you are just chopping stuff up may be better in Audacity. And definitely don't compress again. If you then put it on mixcloud or something it will have been compressed 3 times by the time the listener hears it.

You can add whatever you want over it on other channels. But I’m not even talking about after the render. Within live itself you can hear the track sounds squashed. Why? When I render it I do it as a wav. But I have been adding compressors to make up for the loss in sound. I’ll try rendering it without it see how it sounds

    You farted around for 7 minutes to figure out the tempo, which could have been done in about 30 seconds with warping on. Warping will estimate the track's BPM, and Ableton's BPM detection is pretty good.
    First, move clip's starting point where the drums come in at the start of measure 9. Next, go to the end of the track and check the grid alignment on the last measure containing drums and insert a warp marker and align it if necessary - the correct tempo is then displayed in the clip's Seg BPM box. Set the track's master tempo to that number and turn warping off. Since you already have the correct tempo in the project's master tempo, you can move the clip's starting point back 8 measures to the start of the instrumental intro. Easy peasy.

    • @DJCouchKing
      @DJCouchKing  6 років тому +2

      Ableton Live doesn't always detect the correct tempo. It takes longer to do something when you're breaking it down for a tutorial. This usually takes me less than a minute. ;)
