The perfect G-shock is the square with solar and bluetooth but with a positive display. Its GW-B5600MG-1 but can't find one. They are "out-of-stock" everywhere.
GWM5610BC comes with combi bracelet 2.0 and battery charge shows on screen vs the 5600 which only shows on bluetooth for those who prefer 5610 smaller size.
Bought this a month back after watching this video. And I must say, the more I wear it, the more I like it. With a combi bracelet, this is a perfect G shock.

I just bought one today. By sheer chance one of the shops in my area, had 3 on hand. The MSRP is 269.99 CAD, and they were selling their last 3 for 169.99 CAD a piece! Considering I was going to order the GW-M5610BC-1JF (Multi Band 6, Tough Solar, Combi bracelet) from Japan for around 300 CAD with shipping, this was too great of a deal to pass up, especially with the additional Bluetooth features. A lot of commenters and reviewers have their gripes about the negative LCD display, but it's not hard to get used to, and is not as bad they make it out to be. I find myself angling the screen with available ambient light, to get the best possible read of the display as if by second nature. The Auto Light function is incredible in itself, and having the option for the light to be on for 2s or 4s long, is great if you have a certain preference. A convenient ability of this timepiece is the FIND phone function, simple to use, and can bypass vibrate or silent settings on your phone. I agree with you on this, this might well be the best square face G-shock available.
I've owned the GW-M5610-1BER with negative display for about 3 weeks now and only wore it a couple of times, looks great and fits well on the wrist but the negative display makes it hard to see the time
I've got the GW-M5610BC-1JF and have the same issue, the negative display is difficult to read at times. Love the watch though, and put a Jays and Kays Bull Bar on mine.
I'm rocking a 5610 and a 5600 AR. I had the 5610 for ages and for me it's the perfect beater watch. However it was looking tatty so I bought the AR and took the outer case and strap off and replaced the 5610 bits with it. On the AR I fitted a weathered black metal case and bracelet kit. 5610 also sports JaysnKays bullbars. Love these so much!
Dream watch actually. I think I'm a bit done with analogue steel watches, both automatic and quartz (except for dress watches possibly). Their movements seem to fail me consistently (4 times in 6 years until now), and I every now and then go hiking/skiing/tenting in cold environments, where you can actually truly noticably feel a steel watch draw the heat out of your hand when your body fights to stay warm. Even with decent layers of clothing over it. I think a G-Shock might be the way to go for me

would be perfect if had POSITIVE display. Positive: perfect design, every function is useful, also alarms with snoozer, the Bluetooth also useful and the strap is THE BEST strap ever in any g=shock. The bad: the negative display. Thank you for your review!
This could be one heck of a buy if you'd like to experience that renowned casio's durability, sure they're better options out there now with fancy LCD, activity tracker and notifications display like the gbd200 or the gbx100 but this one does everything you need a watch to do and even more (I personally like the pinging func) plus they're not with the tough solar yet, hence making this a timeless watch with that vintage Casio display, which will only add up to its value years down the line. It's a great timepiece to own. Sadly it's not that easy to find atleast here in India!
Got my Retro 90's IP GW-B5600 for $100 USD earlier this year. Love the colors! It's my most advanced square! I wanna jam this module into my Big King really badly 😂🤣🤣
I own both of these and I just cannot come up with a single reason other than “because it looks cool” that I want another G-Shock square. Only a MIP 5610 with multiband 6 and solar charging would be a fair successor for these two watches.

Just picked one of these up from amazon warehouse for £65! Couldn't believe it! I feel that the buttons etc are better than the 5610 also but I love both
One big difference that nobody talks about is the difference in dimensions. M5160 is slimmer at 12.7 mm and B5600 is 13.4. height and width are a bit different too. I think the M5160 suits better for slim wrist. Do you feel major difference in regards of dimensions? I'm still on the fence if this would wear bulkier on my 6.5 inch wrist.
I just purchased the GWB5600BL-1 online yesterday before I saw this review. Can't wait to get it and check out the features. I still have one of the original gold case casios from the 1980's (or was it late 70's?) Not sure if it still works. A 5610 modded with a metal case and bracelet also resides in one of my watch cases.
Love my GW-B5600-1BDR. One big disappointment is the radio tries, sometime I can get a L1, but it will not sync with WWVA out of Colorado. I have a much older G-Shock right next to it that syncs like a champ. I have tried every trick in the book, it’s simply a failure. Of course it is not needed all THAT much because I sync it to my iPhone. Yes at certain times it can be a bit more difficult to read, but normally I never have a total failure. With the light, it’s amazingly readable (and looks exceptionally gorgeous)... I’d even prefer 6 seconds to 4! Another annoyance is the ambient light is read before the auto-light activates, so sometimes the auto-light does not activate with a wrist turn. Even so, this watch simply must have a negative display given the overall design/color scheme.
I've got a wv59 that won't sync just sitting on a shelf but syncs every night when I hang up it on a metal curtain rod. Something about amplifying the signal. Worth a shot.
Tried that with a long metal pole, made no difference. AND since the time I posted the above, the wrist turn to activate the backlight has done stopped working… very disappointed.
I like it but if my phone got stolen.. what do i do keep time with the guy who stoled.. with the bluettoh.. i need something independent watch and phone i keep my 5610.
This model is not available in India :(. Do you think they are going to release a refreshed version of this or casio is intentionally not selling it here :(
Which one worth more ? That one ? Or the gmw b5000 ? I have the gwm5610 and the mudman g9300 but I’m not sure if to buy the gmw b5000 the silver one or not …I bought the mudman before with 3 month .. and I’m feeling bored .. I used the square one and I still love it ..
Simple question, is the negative display easy to read in all occasions, most occasions, some occasions, or hardly ever? I find it curious why Casio would release this display when so many people seem to complain about the legibility. Any thoughts?
Last Watch but do they have modules that are like the 7800? I can’t find any really. I think they should widen what they can do rather then narrow. Smart watches aren’t that expensive and can do a lot I guess
GW-B5600BC is perfect, that is, until you encounter GMW-B5000D. I have both, I have written an alternative FOSS tool to sync the time on them (and on OCW-T200S) and so on. When I bought the latter, I thought "well, I'll wear B5000D on special occasions and will keep the B5600BC most of the casual time" - hell no, now the B5000D is on my wrist 24/7. I guess if I ever can afford the MRG-B5000 of any variant, it will be the same situation... P.S. And yes, I had M5610 as well, dropped it completely after purchasing the B5600BC, as any BLE-enabled Casio watch makes M5610, that only relies on longwave sync, look like irreversibly outdated mess. Leave the longwaves to Citizens who can't do anything better anyway for similar size and price tags. If you don't want BLE, nothing beats good old DW-5600 of any design you like anyway. P.P.S. Also looking forward to GMB2100BD, but that's a *totally* different story...
This video has been a life saver! I had all the same niggles with the 5610. My only further question is...does it have the same.dimensions as the 5600 or 5610? So one could swap the bezel and straps? Cheers.
The ER at the end just means the model you've got is made for the European market. It's not specific to the watch model itself. There's different codes for different markets around the world (four in total, I believe) the JF, or JR for limited editions, CR, DR and ER I believe are the others. Some people believe the japanese models are the best because that's where the watches are designed, but it most cases this can't really be proven. Anyways, if you're gonna suggest picking up this model, you don't need to include the ER at the end. It could be misleading to somebody from America or Australia who thinks the model designed for their market is the wrong model.
I was considering the 5610 about a month ago and recall watching your video. After getting distracted by other watches I became interested in, this video has been somewhat prophetic. Just this week I have seen the Blue 5600 on sale, at first on Amazon yesterday where I think it was about £60. Then today it popped up at H Samuel and I picked it up for just under £53. I reckon I picked up a bit of a bargain, even though it’s on the rubber strap rather than the combi one, I’m OK with that as I plan to swap it out for a NATO if that’s possible? If anyone has advice about how to do that please reply and let me know. Great review and I can’t wait to get the watch.
You lucky bugger, for just over £50 I’d be tempted to by a 3rd Square. I mentioned Jays & Kay’s they do a mod that will allow you to wear your G on a NATO. I have some goodies coming my way from Vario with a plan to review their stock, one of the items is a GShock strap adapter, keep an eye out for that review in a few weeks
Last Watch fantastic. Will keep my eye open for the Vario review. Sounds just what I’m looking for. Obviously there are a few people who have been on the look out for this watch. I missed out on the Amazon deal because I was flicking between the M5610 and the B5600 and when I decided to go for it they had all gone. I also checked on H Samuel again last night and they had all sold out at the £54.99 price as well. Thanks for the reply and look forward to the Vario reviews. EDIT: just realised that it was Argos that had them on half price sale, not H Samuel. I still think they sold out pretty quickly though.
I've been considering either the stealth or the gold. I'm leaning gold because I had trouble reading a cheap negative display mudman I used to own. Are all negative display Gs equal or is it possible this one is better?
I had to mention its legibility compared to the 5610, personally I dont find reading it an issue it all comes down to your surroundings. The negative display can act like a mirror in reflective light, if you have major concerns the gold is a great choice
@@LastWatch Yes a decision between aesthetics and legibility I guess. I have heard from someone the mudmaster was a particularly bad display. I wish the stealth came in positive display with a combi bracelet that would be ideal.
I have the gold GWB 5600 and it's fantastic. I chose it partly because of the positive display, too. The negatives look cool but I suspect only the higher end STN display models are decently legible, and even then, I question the negative STN legibility over a standard positive display.
I've had this combi bracelet and the one from the 5610bc and the 5610bc bracelet is way better. I didn't like the resin center links on the one you have so I parted it out. I find the gwb 5600 is the best G Shock going. ✌🏽
Wait it has gps built in it? Or does it need to be connected to your phone to record time and place? What if your not in Bluetooth range with your phone, will it still record it and show up on your phone when your back in range?
Government cutbacks in the US under the Trump administartion, they mentioned the possibility of pulling funding for the US Clock, I think this made people question whether their is a need for the others as everyone has access to GPS
Negative displays just dont work for me , legibility at a glance is absolutely critical in owning a watch for me , granted I wear glasses but this does not impact legibility for me except in the case of negative display watches that require just that half second more to read and be confident of the time displyed has been read correctly .
I love the marking dw 5610 and multiband 6 is always more reliable than phone, and unreliable bluetooth, if I need phone connect watch I would go with the American Apple watch
Last Watch It works when im connected to the app. But as soon it disconnects the app after a couple of minutes of no use and i try to find my phone, it wont find my phone, although my bluetooth is still turned on.
I really wish Casio would stop making all their best models negative display only. I know this one has the positive display gold version but if you don't like gold I guess you have to settle or keep on looking.
This Bluetooth version is almost twice the price, however. You said you got it cheaper than your original square, the 5610 Multiband 6. However, you also mention that your watch came in the wrong box. So, you got charged for a completely different and cheaper watch.
I bought, paid and have a receipt for the correct watch which was on sale at the time, they put the correct tin in the wrong outer cardboard box, the blue version of this watch is currently on sale at Argos in the UK for £55, there are definitely deals on these watches if you hit lucky
@@LastWatch I just got that from Argos for that price, absolute bargain. I wasn't even looking for one, although I do own a couple of other Gs and love them.
@@LastWatch Although I must admit that I would rather have a combi-link bracelet. The standard bracelet is not as durable as a NATO or leather strap and the flimsy resin keeper is usually the first piece to go. You can separately buy a bracelet for around €80 and a metal keeper for like €2, those are some reasonable upgrades. I also noticed that my 5610 doesn't do the flick-of-the-wrist illumination that you demonstrated in your other video.
storm3016 ya, I looked around on amazon, I really like the GWB5600AR-1. Though all my friends said g-shocks are ugly, but I think that makes me want to buy it more haha.
If I can delete two words from the English language, they would be tactical and color way. Instead of this watch, I got the half metal square and added a combination bracelet to it. The bonus? It’s a positive display. I don’t understand why only two variations of this watch our positive displays, both of which are super hard to find and very expensive. Note the negative display Models are cheaper and easier to find. So, maybe it’s apparent that more people want the positive displays. Casio get a clue.

You’re a fan then, like you I will gladly add the B5000 to the collection when I catch it on sale
Since this video is 4 years old, is the Batman still the best version of this?
I've not looked, may have to see whats new
This video has been a life saver! I had all the same niggles with the 5610. My only further question is...does it have the same.dimensions as the 5600 or 5610? So one could swap the bezel and straps? Cheers.
I'm pretty sure it does, theres a lot of swapping goes on in the Square community
Afaik, 5600 and 5610 have different cases.
When you order a metal kit, you get to choose between them, so I guess they are not compatible.
@@e28forever30 The only difference is the lug to lug width, the fittings are the same...
I'll stick with my 5610 until Casio put out a GW B5600BC with a positive display.
You can mod the display yourself
............and I'd make a complete bollocks of it and end up buying a new watch and going back up to divorce state amber!
What is difference between GW-B5600BC-1BDR and the GW-B5600BC-1BER?
I think the last 2 initials are location reference, ER is Europe
Are the dimensions the same as a normal 5600? I have bullbars for a basic one and would like to put them on this
Yep
Hello! Can you permanently activate the automatic light function to solve the visibility problem?
it will only activate in low light
The ER at the end just means the model you've got is made for the European market. It's not specific to the watch model itself. There's different codes for different markets around the world (four in total, I believe) the JF, or JR for limited editions, CR, DR and ER I believe are the others. Some people believe the japanese models are the best because that's where the watches are designed, but it most cases this can't really be proven. Anyways, if you're gonna suggest picking up this model, you don't need to include the ER at the end. It could be misleading to somebody from America or Australia who thinks the model designed for their market is the wrong model.
www.buywatchesonline.com.au/casioblog/what-do-the-casio-prefix-codes-mean/ this could explain it better lol
Thanks for the info and improving my knowledge
@@LastWatch you got it, man. You put out some good stuff, keep up the good work!
A great review about a great watch!
Hi, you say that the screen is not as legible as 5610. Are you talking about a negative screen as well ?
This is a negative display
@@LastWatch thank you
The battery only last for one(1) week. Should I have the battery changed ?
You definitely have a battery problem
Great review - May I ask, does it still get a signal from Anthorn regardless of the Bluetooth connection?
The multiband still works effortlessly
Can you change strap on it - want to have it for all occasions including sports and the chain strap doesn’t look
Conducive for that
Yes, you can swap it out for another G-Shock strap or get an adaptor to use other straps
@@LastWatch great thank you.
i cant find the yelow one nowhere! the blue one has not the same band! anyone found the yellow?
Keep digging
The negative display is quite often pretty hard to read.
It can be
I've had this combi bracelet and the one from the 5610bc and the 5610bc bracelet is way better. I didn't like the resin center links on the one you have so I parted it out. I find the gwb 5600 is the best G Shock going. ✌🏽
I think they decided to save a few pennies and reduce the weight by losing the metal links and making this bracelet all resin
Where can i buy the strap? Or does the new one come with it? Ive only found them with rubber straps
The bracelets go for crazy money on ebay, you might be better off buying a Square with a bracelet already attached
Would you stay away from the 35 pound chinese efforts . Bracelet
Wait it has gps built in it? Or does it need to be connected to your phone to record time and place? What if your not in Bluetooth range with your phone, will it still record it and show up on your phone when your back in range?
You need to be connected to your phone
@@LastWatch ok, thanks
I have a 6.5 inch wrist. Will the GW-B5600BC-1BER fit?
Borderline, I would say wear it with attitude
Can you put a combi bracelet on the metal square??
The all steel G-Shock comes on a bracelet
@@LastWatch um i know i have it but wanted to switch it out for a much much lighter combi if it was possible
Why they want to switch of the Atomic Signal? Can't find informations about this.
Government cutbacks in the US under the Trump administartion, they mentioned the possibility of pulling funding for the US Clock, I think this made people question whether their is a need for the others as everyone has access to GPS
@@LastWatch Never happened!
Negative displays just dont work for me , legibility at a glance is absolutely critical in owning a watch for me , granted I wear glasses but this does not impact legibility for me except in the case of negative display watches that require just that half second more to read and be confident of the time displyed has been read correctly .
Cinsider this, with a negative display you spend more time looking and enjoying your watch
Next day after getting this watch I modded it to regular display and like it.
from Good Time Keeper show I learnt how this watch displays last Receiving time of time.
I love the marking dw 5610 and multiband 6 is always more reliable than phone, and unreliable bluetooth, if I need phone connect watch I would go with the American Apple watch
I would break it but I did treat my daughter to an apple watch
Would it be possible to change the negative display to a positive display?
You would have to swap out the module
@@LastWatch I will have to buy two G-Shocks then and make a Frankenstein G-Shock lol
Nooooo
The perfect g shock is the all metal GMWB5000 series!!
I think that has to be my next Square
I just got this watch and my phone finder won't work unless I manually connect it to bluetooth
How else would it connect with your phone
Last Watch It works when im connected to the app. But as soon it disconnects the app after a couple of minutes of no use and i try to find my phone, it wont find my phone, although my bluetooth is still turned on.
The black paint wears off the clasp of the combi bracelet and ends up looking tacky. Casio needs to come up with a different finish. DLC perhaps.
Thats my worry with most black watches
I prefer the original.. Just looks way better... But I love the combi bracelet
The bracelet is a nice touch
@@LastWatch I have the casio 5610 in black.. Blue and orange colourways the last two are Japanese imports... I might get two combi bracelets.....
I really wish Casio would stop making all their best models negative display only. I know this one has the positive display gold version but if you don't like gold I guess you have to settle or keep on looking.
You can swap out the modules
@@LastWatch Yeah and that's cool but it would be nice if the choice existed straight from Casio.
I ordered one, but the negative lcd sucks. I returned it.
OK, you convinced me to buy one.
Careful Squares are addictive
I want this watch but it's $200 now. Gonna wait til Black Friday
Definitely worth shopping around
Perfect watch and review 👍🏻 Batman is a cool and deserved nickname ! I call mine the PP my "Plastic Patek" cheers
I like it!
Great review 👍👍
This Bluetooth version is almost twice the price, however. You said you got it cheaper than your original square, the 5610 Multiband 6. However, you also mention that your watch came in the wrong box. So, you got charged for a completely different and cheaper watch.
I bought, paid and have a receipt for the correct watch which was on sale at the time, they put the correct tin in the wrong outer cardboard box, the blue version of this watch is currently on sale at Argos in the UK for £55, there are definitely deals on these watches if you hit lucky
Also, I have just checked the reference on the box, turns out it belongs to a more expensive watch £375 rrp, the definitely didn’t charge me that
@@LastWatch Wow that's crazy. Never get prices like that in the U.S. for *retail store* G-Shocks especially. Wish I could have you ship me one!
The negative displays are harder to read in the daylight than the regular positive displays.
Only sometimes
I’m buying this
Where does everyone buy their gshocks? I prefer not to buy off third party sites like ebay, but am having a hard time finding more official sellers
Where are you based
@@LastWatch currently stuck in Italy but should be back in the States soon near D.C.
My wrist size is 5.9 inch...which g shock is for me ...?plz reply.
I would play safe and try one on before purchasing, the size is pretty much the same across all models except the Baby G
Is baby-g for children?
Pretty much
Does it give you notifications?
Where can i buy the bracelet
I have one for sale. Brand new! I bought the watch but don't want the bracelet. Just comment here if you're interested.
Your Amazon link shows it at £155.99 Where did you get it at under £100?
It was on sale at Ernest Jones in the UK, heads up the blue variant is currently £55 at Argos
Nice one 👍
@@LastWatch I just got that from Argos for that price, absolute bargain. I wasn't even looking for one, although I do own a couple of other Gs and love them.
Wait Batman doesn't wear a Rolex GMT Batman, and Bond doesn't wear an Omega Seamaster Professional with a "007" on the second hand?
I’m sure they do
obviously. the red ring!
And which one is better Gw- 5610-1er und Gw- 560-1er ?
Equally as good, I use the 5600 for work and 5610 for casual occasions
@@LastWatch thanks
im rocking my gshock!
what is the bad side of your old watch 5610?
xperiahkarc watch the review
Watched. Still don't get it. U said it is retro. But this is not a bad side
@@xperiahkarc the other review, of the 5610
The 5610 is already perfect. I strongly prefer a positive display and I have no real use for Watch Bluetooth.
Fair enough, I have both and cant argue with you, the 5610 is a great watch
@@LastWatch Although I must admit that I would rather have a combi-link bracelet. The standard bracelet is not as durable as a NATO or leather strap and the flimsy resin keeper is usually the first piece to go. You can separately buy a bracelet for around €80 and a metal keeper for like €2, those are some reasonable upgrades. I also noticed that my 5610 doesn't do the flick-of-the-wrist illumination that you demonstrated in your other video.
This does seem like a fairly functional watch. But I would say for a digital watch I would prefer a little more color. Great review 👍🏼
There are several different colors available, just image-google GW-B5600 and you should see them all with a little bit of scrolling.
storm3016 ya, I looked around on amazon, I really like the GWB5600AR-1. Though all my friends said g-shocks are ugly, but I think that makes me want to buy it more haha.
You have choices
Can you put a resin strap on it
Yes
If I can delete two words from the English language, they would be tactical and color way. Instead of this watch, I got the half metal square and added a combination bracelet to it. The bonus? It’s a positive display. I don’t understand why only two variations of this watch our positive displays, both of which are super hard to find and very expensive. Note the negative display Models are cheaper and easier to find. So, maybe it’s apparent that more people want the positive displays. Casio get a clue.
That was 3 words, I don’t think there’s a bad G-SHOCK, it’s just different price points
Love all the added benefits to it like the bluetooth...think I still prefer the old DW5600 though!
I’m looking at both and why would you prefer the DW5600 over it’s newer brother?
