I've had a number of Gshocks and always end up going back to the squares as my go to. I also have a metal bezel and bracelet that's been in purgatory for quite some time too. Thanks for the video.
Happy for you to finally get a G-shock, and the quintessential square one at that. The blue accents on this model are very nice and don't look tacky or cheap. The best affordable beater by far, with all the useful functions for everyday use.
Negative displays are cool but I do find them hard to read on sunny days. Its why I went with the positive display GWM-5610. Great review as always Shane
Square G-Shocks are fun. I purchased the GW-B5600 on the combi bracelet a month ago. Liked it, but not completely convinced. Received the full metal GMW-5000 this week, the shiny stainless steel version with the positive display. I am blown away, it is on another level altogether. My favourite watch, period. Fit and finish are amazing and it wears beautiful. It is a bit chunkier than the GW-B5600, the lugs and bracelet have some extra volume, just the amount of volume I missed on the resin one. I passed the resin one on to my wife, she loves the stealthiness and the lightweight construction.👍
Heck I'm not a fan of quartz but even I have a bunch of them including a Casio GW-B5600 and Seiko solar quartz, Nighthawk etc.. they are way too practical...
I finally bought an automatic watch. What a pain. Now I understand why digital, especially solar is the way to go. I love my auto but give me anyone of my awesome Casio's any day of the week and I'll take it. G-Shock or Pathfinder
From my personal experience, after 1 year usage. I'm so satisfied with it's features. Bluetooth making it easy to calibrate time and date, record locations, set a reminder, can be use to find your phone, and making it far more easier to adjust the settings of this watch via gshock apps. My fav parts is the reminder. When the reminder comes, whenever u press the light button, a red light will lit instead of normal white blueish light.
Greetings, Could you tell me if it's possible to turn off the Bluetooth while leaving multiband 6 signal on? The yellowy/orange one is in the cart but I'm not sure I want Bluetooth connectivity. Thanks in advance
Love the reviewed watch. I couldn't take the leap for a Casio digital GShock in the $150-$200 range. So... I bought the 10ATM field watch W800H Blackout model for $18. Ya, $18 and 10ATM.
The GShock square brings back memories of my youth. Specifically computer games round friends houses and underage drinking in the local parks. Mine must be more than 20 years old. Needs a battery change
Aurel Bacs has a really good quote about this: “Vintage watches bring us back to times we missed. Time where things maybe weren’t perfect, but done with love.”
Great review as always, Shane! I have the same watch (in all black). I HIGHLY recommend you to put on the combination (combi) bracelet. You can purchase it separately for about 80 bucks. It is worth every single nickel. It completes the watch. On a side note, the auto light is a great feature, but just be weary that it does drain the battery pretty quick as it is pretty reactive when you turn your wrist. I ended up turning it off as I quickly found the battery was on low. Keep up the excellent work, sir. Your channel has quickly become my go to!
Great review from your side my friend :) I have a feeling that this square will be for experimental and with the new steel hardware it'll probably make it too nice even to water the garden... the negative display isn't for all, but if you want that stealth look then there it is.... the GST is more you, and feel you'll enjoy this one the most... I still think you need an ABC G-Shock, and you really should consider the GW-9400 and become a Rangeman, but as you mention size I'm a little worried that too will be an overload on your wrist. G-Shock's are certainly about fun, practicality and toughness... the resin bezels are made to be used, and from a mould they will always have the spur edges... so looking at those details you'll find that on many resin G-Shocks... the buttons are small on the GW-B5600, and I agree a little hard to press, but it avoids unwanted button presses, but with the Bluetooth side you can avoid the buttons with some percentage. The big daddy B5000 series have bigger buttons, metal case and bezel with screw down case back, it's on another level, and so is the price... I feel G-Shock went either or and didn't rest one between which I feel many wanted. Great review and enjoy for the relative time with this one... love your multiple video clips and presentation, as for me, I'm taking mine to the Mad-Max level of 69 LML :-P Huge thumbs and looking forward to the GST review :))
Got my 7th grader a Seiko 5 (snk809) last xmas, this year he’s getting this watch in digital camo :) I didn’t push, and was happy to see he naturally took to watches. He doesn’t want a smart watch, more a PC kid than a phone user, so I’m getting him the smart watch from my childhood hehe I remember having a calculator watch at his age. Great video very well done and clear, subbed.
Welcome to the rabbit-hole! lol Great review, you nailed it again. Never been a fan of the strap adapters myself, they just look like too much of an after-thought to me on the squares. I recently got one of the CasiOaks btw, the yellow GA-2110, and the strap doesn't really flair out to the sides on that model which makes it a much better fit for my skinny 6" wrist. Funny thing, the GW-B5600 can often be found for less than the GW-M5610 here in Europe, and for roughly the same price as the DW-5600 which is way overpriced here in the EU. What's up with that Casio? ;P ps: be careful with the pew-pews here on YT, they might demonetize your channel if they notice it. Cheers mate.
picked this up in the uk for approx $60. loved how it wore, but just couldnt live with that display and returned the next day - unless you have 20-20 vision forget it. and you are spot on with the buttons.thanks for the great review. again.
Great review and spot on about the buttons. My 5600 has the same issue, but for $40 I can't complain. I have come full circle with these. Wore them when I was younger, moved to automatics and three handers, and I have come back around due to the functionality of these watches. If you miss the three hand look and want something classier, I have an Oceanus s100 that might be the best all around watch I own. Same module in a titanium cased three hander.
A lot of people don't. Not sure what it is. On the original "help me pick a g-shock video", people seem evenly split. For every "I hate it" comment I got one saying they loved it.
@@RelativeTime I wonder if people who don't like the negative display are the same who wish the khaki field had ar coating. I never had difficulty reading that one either.
A Sommelier Is to paring wine with food, As you are to pairing watches with straps...When I’m looking for ideas on straps for my watches I just watch your channel! Thanks for the great review on the G shocks!
Thank you for another excellent review! I’m doing the same... buying the base model DW 5600 and using the kit to covert to an all metal G-Shock (royal blue). Looking forward to your review of your converted G-Shock as well.
Casio squares are the way to go for me. They are popular because they accommodate wide range of wrist sizes. I have two, the entry level dw5600 and the radio gwm5610. The size is different, gw series have thinner smaller case than the dw but only by a small margin.
I have a good-sized collection of G-Shocks..they ARE addicting, and you’ll love them. Among my G’s are 2 DW5600’s (one a blacked-out “stealth” version and the other also with a negative display-not completely blacked-out, but with a black metal bezel cover and a camo pattern on the crystal) and 2 GWM5610’s, one with a positive display and one with a negative. I find the difficulty in reading the negative displays depends on the watch. I have several with negative displays and can read most just fine, but there are a couple that are almost impossible to make out. Like you, I’ve never felt the need for Bluetooth on a watch, but I do like Tough Solar and Multiband 6. By the way, after seeing your reviews of the Invicta Pro Diver, Vostok Amphibia and Deep Blue Master 1000 last year, I bought all 3, and while they’re not G Shocks, they’re great in their own right.
I have a DW5600-BB since like six months. That's the "stealthy looking" one with black negative display. I wear it at work, and never really found a watch earlier that I would put through that. The G-shock is great for that. But I have to agree that negative display make it a bit hard to read sometimes. But since I often work in rather dim lighting anyway, it's not a problem to press the light button when needing to know the time. I prefer that than always have to pulling out my phone (often from a little protective thin fabric bag).
That's why I turned on the auto-light (or whatever its called) and never turned it back off. Really easy to read when it comes on. Even if it's just for a few seconds.
Great review on a classic G. I just have a solar G Shock square. No point in having multi band 6 where I live as there’s no coverage. Can’t go wrong with a g Shock
My beater watch is a 5600 bb black out model. Love it to death. I also bought a skemi all metal square watch after the review from just one more watch.
Late to the G Shock craze and I'm liking this mode because of the color. Your video is really helpful and your voice is so nice to listen to! Just a quick question though. I can no longer find this in physical shops so I'd probably need to go the online route but I'm a female with small wrists (5 1/2 inches) so I'm wondering if it would be too big?
I bouth it to from Argos. An absolute steal at that price . After owning a GW-9400 rangeman, I wanted something less bulky to wear every day. Ordered a combi bracelet from tiktox and the watch will be just perfect.
Wished I'd checked. Looking at an AWG stealth versionl. Just wondering if I'll need to see the discs in sunlight & will it fit under. a shirt sleeve ( ?).
I am glad you found a G-Shock to suit your needs. But, as you point out the legibility on the screen is hindered by the negative display. The features of the watch won't mean much if there are times you can't read the screen and you shouldn't have to resort to having the display light up at certain angles. I suggest you sell it, exchange this for a comparable model with a positive LCD display, or you might even be able to change the screen to a positive display yourself. I believe there are videos that give instructions on how. Good luck!
I’ve owned a G7710 for about ten years but always wanted a square and was looking at the GW5610 but then found the GW B5600 on offer for £55 so wasted no time ordering it and I have to say I love it, more comfortable than the 7710 and good looking with the blue and negative display.
I think the cheaper pass through ones were about $11. for the price I thought it was worth a shot. Although I agree, they never quite look right but they are a bit more comfortable.
I got my metal upgrade kit from ali express last week, lovin it Mine is in antique bronze and it makes the"set" button easier to push. Also got one of the glass screen protectors to make it even tougher.
It's amazing how much of a difference that blue accent makes. I honestly like Dave's pink (regardless of the reasons behind his color choice haha) but this one wins it for me. I'm always surprised by the dimensions because it wears so much smaller than it seems in my eyes. I'm with you on wearing it in the heat. My only gripe is the factory strap doesn't breathe well at all. Great in depth review!
So do I. Although I was already planing on doing the metal case mod on this one, so I didn't mind too much. I ordered it at the beginning of April and was hoping it would be here for this video, but never showed up. Still somewhere between here and China.
The basic square is the way to go. I’ own 2 and have put them through 13 years of abuse in one of the most demanding jobs you can think of. Most G’s are way too big, full of “features” that are never used and are plain ugly. But this little guy is awesome!
It's quite a shame that you didn't purchase either the black or Gold versions of this watch that come with the "combi" bracelet. Your observation and outcome would have been quite different. Thre combination of the two equate to a watch that literally disappears! You also forget that some of us don't have access to atomic time so the Bluetooth time update is a god send, not to mention the ability to set alarms and reminders by way of the app..The location function is fantastic too if your broaden your horizons.. for one, I use it regularly to locate my car! One press of a button and job done, coordinates saved. Never had a problem with the find phone function either.
I have a friend who admits he’s a bit of a fashion snob. One day I wore the monochrome version of this watch with a Jays and Kays adapter and an Uncle Straps canvas strap. He kept looking at my watch, and at one point, I asked, “What’s up?” He said while he would not were a G-Shock, the way I modded it had a cool, F- You quality about it. The G-Shock is functional. I think that’s the appeal. Most are too heavy with the text which is the reason I bought the monochrome one. Excellent review!
I hate the legibility of Casio's with the negative dials. So I opted for the version with the inverted dial. Also: the plastic watchband on mine is surprisingly comfortable. I think you made a mistake with your band choice.. Oh yeah: you can fully mod it into the full metal version!
@@RelativeTime yes I have seen a bunch of videos on that and it looks amazing. But I'm not that confident it's a good idea. Sinn has a watch done in that way (analog) and it's quite a thing. Even special oil has different behavior depending on temperature. But it's super cool..
Ah man I need to pick this up, recently got the Triple Black Ga2100 CasiOak. Will get this next I like how it looks plus will be my first G square. Wonder if you can set the alarm via the Bluetooth on App
I converted mine to full metal camo, which takes away the beater element somewhat as I now baby it like my other watches but it just looks so cool for $130. $1300 for a real one is for those who have truly joined the cult, I'm not singing with the choir just yet.
In retrospect, I could see that being useful. A few months ago I was playing golf and wearing my Garmin Instinct 2. Didn't realize it, but the edge of my glove was pushing some of the buttons as I was moving around. Evidently if a particular button gets pressed enough it triggers an emergency alert. Telling my phone to text my emergency contacts for help with my GPS location. I was about to T off and started getting texts from my wife and brother wanting to know if I was ok. I turned that feature off pretty quick after that. LOL
Happened precisely the same to me.. I bought GSTB200-1A some months ago, and now i bought this same blue model of gshock square at amazon spain. And i'm having the same doubts and constraints as you concerning the square gshock. I thought it was bigger also. Maybe i'll returning it back. What's your oppinion, should i return it back? Regarding the GSTB200-1A it's amazing, i love it all day! Regards
Instead of GW-B5600 I have bought Timex Expedition T49851 for 40$ It's quite unique since has vibro alert GShock doesn't have. I still might might buy one, but solar and radio controlled CASIO G-SHOCK GW-M5610-1.
I ordered the blacked out version with the combi-bracelet. I haven't received it yet, but, I'm very excited. The three features that makes this a must for me are the solar, bluetooth, and multiband 6. Combined with its durability and 20BAR, this is all the watch a man needs. I hope the combi-bracelet is more breathable in hot weather, too. I can see this one dominating my rotation.
Nice review. I just got the GW-B5600 and don't Think the negative display is even as bright as any I've seen in online photos or videos. I've seen people modding to positive display but not sure I'd do it. Could just keep my G5600-E but means resetting the time every so often, and no DD-MM or Bluetooth. Agree about the auto illuminate delay and doesn't always seem reliable. On Android it's required to have animations on in the settings for the app to work, which seems to keep running in the background well, after you're done setting the watch up. Only going to keep one so it's a bit tough to decide. No point if you can't read it that easily.
I agree with everything you said about the square. I too have a negative display. It gives a great stealth look but gives some difficulty when reading the dial. I got the one with the factory fabric band as i can't stand resin bands and agree with what you sid about straps just not looking right, I think it comes down to the adapters. Think I'm gonna try a bracelet from Ali Express.
My preferred alternative is Casio Pro Trek. While they have smart versions now, the non connected ones are solid and a great value with some cool features. Used one for years in the military and can attest to it's durability.
Hmmmm. All of the Bluetooth functions work just fine for me. I did go with the neg display. I did this holding my breath. But it seams that with this watch the neg display works very well and I'm super glad that I went with the neg. There are so many things about this watch that I really like. Unfortunately, it just like the M5610 this watch has me now hooked on the square. I just received the Ninja King yesterday and now in the dilemma of which square to wear. Believe it or not I usually end up with this watch on my arm. I bought the Digital Camo version. GWB5600DC-1
Ritche makes some. They are usually sold on Amazon. I've also heard that Vario makes some really good ones, but I wasn't sure they would make it from Singapore in time.

Good luck!
Great review! I´ve also got a Parnis GMT somewhere around the world in transit, but that didn´t stop me to order today a SKMEI full metal as well.
Might have to check that out too. I ordered the new Pagani Design GMT. Hopefully that shows up soon too.
I’ve owned a G7710 for about ten years but always wanted a square and was looking at the GW5610 but then found the GW B5600 on offer for £55 so wasted no time ordering it and I have to say I love it, more comfortable than the 7710 and good looking with the blue and negative display.
Amazing editing skills as usual:)
I’m not a fan of those adapters. It looks kinda off but I love in Houston so I get the breath ability aspect
I think the cheaper pass through ones were about $11. for the price I thought it was worth a shot. Although I agree, they never quite look right but they are a bit more comfortable.
I tried the adapters and the next day sent them back for a refund. They make the watch look like a cheap toy🤦🏽♂️
Mario G I went with JaysAndKays metal adapters on one of my squares. They have regular spring bars and look and work great.
I got my metal upgrade kit from ali express last week, lovin it
Mine is in antique bronze and it makes the"set" button easier to push. Also got one of the glass screen protectors to make it even tougher.
That's cool. I went with black, but was tempted to get blue. I ordered mine the first week of April, so it's gotta be here soon.
At double speed, this video is great.
O man still waiting for gst b200 review ty great content
Yah, I kind of forgot about that one. Still have it, so I should put something out about it.
Casio could reduce price by leaving out Multiband 6; it's useless nowadays if there is Bluetooth.
I just picked up the GWB5600BC-1B, because I wanted the resin bracelet. (Wish the blue would have come with it as well!)
So do I. Although I was already planing on doing the metal case mod on this one, so I didn't mind too much. I ordered it at the beginning of April and was hoping it would be here for this video, but never showed up. Still somewhere between here and China.
@@RelativeTime Shane, I also ordered the metal case kit....mid-April.........it has not arrived...
got mine now. great watch. thinking about a better case and strap.
The basic square is the way to go. I’ own 2 and have put them through 13 years of abuse in one of the most demanding jobs you can think of. Most G’s are way too big, full of “features” that are never used and are plain ugly. But this little guy is awesome!
5610U ultimate
It's quite a shame that you didn't purchase either the black or Gold versions of this watch that come with the "combi" bracelet.
Your observation and outcome would have been quite different. Thre combination of the two equate to a watch that literally disappears!
You also forget that some of us don't have access to atomic time so the Bluetooth time update is a god send, not to mention the ability to set alarms and reminders by way of the app..The location function is fantastic too if your broaden your horizons.. for one, I use it regularly to locate my car! One press of a button and job done, coordinates saved. Never had a problem with the find phone function either.
So autolight fix the bad reading of negative display ?
I have a friend who admits he’s a bit of a fashion snob. One day I wore the monochrome version of this watch with a Jays and Kays adapter and an Uncle Straps canvas strap.
He kept looking at my watch, and at one point, I asked, “What’s up?”
He said while he would not were a G-Shock, the way I modded it had a cool, F- You quality about it.
That's the plan. At least when the case mods eventually gets here. Tracking shows it left China about a month ago, but that's it.
@@RelativeTime cool, I might do mine depending on your result - no pressure there 😆
@@HVG67 Someone else suggested I try Hydro Modding it too. Supposedly helps with the negative display, but not sure I want to do that.
@@RelativeTime yes I have seen a bunch of videos on that and it looks amazing. But I'm not that confident it's a good idea. Sinn has a watch done in that way (analog) and it's quite a thing. Even special oil has different behavior depending on temperature. But it's super cool..
Looking forward to your review. I have the red version.....(GWB5600AR-1)
How easy is it to read?
@@RelativeTime Outside, it is pretty easy to read, but in dim light, not so easy.
Sounds the same.
wearing it now
Pressin lower right button for place and time works if you dont have timer running.
I have this watch. The only drawback is the negative display, which can be difficult to see
Ah man I need to pick this up, recently got the Triple Black Ga2100 CasiOak.
Will get this next I like how it looks plus will be my first G square. Wonder if you can set the alarm via the Bluetooth on App
The voice. Brilliant.
Thanks!
nice review. mine is in order. would this be as reliable as the 5610?
I converted mine to full metal camo, which takes away the beater element somewhat as I now baby it like my other watches but it just looks so cool for $130. $1300 for a real one is for those who have truly joined the cult, I'm not singing with the choir just yet.
Excellent review, classy. Thanks
Thanks!
Have the same one, its amazing, best square out there
Nice photo of the Alamo
Thanks! I was actually back down there a couple weeks ago.
The hard to press buttons were a design feature back in the day but they limit the watch, IMO.
Regards
Hi, how are you liking the new G-Shocks? Which do you prefer?
Try the 200 with the MIP display. It has better pushers.
I've been meaning to check that one out?
Nice review and presentation.
Thanks watched both that was cool.
I think it worked out well. So we will have to try that again with two similar but not the same watches.
Can't wait to hear your opinion on GST-B200. By the way, did Dave tell you why he decided to sell it?
He has a slightly smaller wrist and thought it was too big. Which it is, but so far I haven't minded it.
Nice review. I have one and you just reviewed the one I want. If you decide to get rid of it for a positive display, I'd be interested in it.
Luv my 5610 with adapters and 2 piece black metal bracelet.
Instead of GW-B5600 I have bought Timex Expedition T49851 for 40$ It's quite unique since has vibro alert GShock doesn't have. I still might might buy one, but solar and radio controlled CASIO G-SHOCK GW-M5610-1.
This is actually an impossible watch not to like,
There is no battery level indicator on the watch. How do we get know the battery level?
I ordered the blacked out version with the combi-bracelet. I haven't received it yet, but, I'm very excited. The three features that makes this a must for me are the solar, bluetooth, and multiband 6. Combined with its durability and 20BAR, this is all the watch a man needs. I hope the combi-bracelet is more breathable in hot weather, too. I can see this one dominating my rotation.
hello! what is the blacked out model please
What a beauty! Really enjoyed this video! Keep it up my man!
Jay and kays 5610 metal adapters are a must for us sweathogs. 😂... but seriously they are...
I have one but don’t really like the negative display.
I'll have to check out one of those soon. Although I'm a bit curious about the edfice and Oceanus watches too.
@@RelativeTime nice! I have the pro trek PRW-3510Y-8CR now. The new negative display is super clear, and 200m WR is a big bonus.
Jonathan S its* durability
GWB5600DC-1
What phone do you have? I'm curious if that's the difference.
✅ Best G-shock ever 🥇
Nice vid Shane - who was the other adapter vendor besides Jays and Kays? Thanks.
Ritche makes some. They are usually sold on Amazon.
I've also heard that Vario makes some really good ones, but I wasn't sure they would make it from Singapore in time.
