    We often get asked about our personal guitars and amps that crop up on That Pedal Show, so this series/playlist seeks to answer some of the more common questions and provide a bit of background. Please note these aren’t demo videos as such. They’re just some context for the amps we use on the show.
    In this video Mick talks about his Two-Rock Classic Reverb Signature. Mick got the amp part way through 2017 following a very long journey, much soul searching and a little bit of luck here and there!
    It’a post-2016 model, after Two-Rock was acquired by new owners led by one Eli Lester, and also rehired original designer Bill Krinard.
    You’ll see our amps crop up variously on the show. We mix it up depending on what we think works best for the job.
    Enjoy the video…

    4 years later I have come back to this video that I used to sit and drool over all the time. I'm excited and slightly overwhelmed to say that I've managed to somehow acquire a slightly used CRS! I honestly thought it would never happen and these amps were just out of my price range forever, but I've become a major strat lover and decided to move on a Gibson ES335 that has gone up a little in value, which has allowed me to buy this amp. Slowly buying and selling has finally led to me scraping together the money to get my dream amp. This channel played a pretty big part in my gear search and learning what sounds I love. Will always appreciate that!

    Mick speaks about stuff like this with more authority than anyone else on You Tube. Listening to him speak about it is nearly as good as listening to him play. Wonderful stuff.

      That’s very kind Angus, thank you. There are soooooo many people out there who know way more than me, and I’m lucky enough to chat to some of them from time time. We’ll try and get more in front of the camera!

      Such a fantastic guitar that. It’s the ultimate paradox. A lot of people would assume it’s a one-trick pony with just the one pickup. But it’s so versatile it’s crazy! Lucky boy. The 335 was nearly a Collings because the Collings is a better instrument..... but I wanted the full body size and classic 335 thing. Probably the hardest guitar decision I’ve ever had to make. 21st century problems right?! Thanks for watching!

    Hi Matt, really enjoyed that. This might be hard to do but be kinder about your own playing. I am reminded of what Ty Tabor said after he put his guitar away after listening to Van Halen I. He then realised that his job was not to be better than everyone else but to be himself and express that through his instrument. Great playing (as ever!), great story and a great amp. Thanks for sharing.

    Couldn't agree more. I own one - serial 03. Totally, head-over-heels in love with it. It is an instrument in its own right, and its versatility isn't to be overlooked, either. It can push out a ton of different tones - even without pedals. Also, I find it to be quite picky with pedals, despite what everyone tells me. When you have a standard, base tone that is this good, only the best pedals work with it. It shows up their flaws like no other amp! But when paired with the right overdrives, the tones are simply unreal. A true marvel of engineering, and a dream tool for me as a musician. I was waiting for this video for ages - thanks, Mick!

    • @colaboytje
      @colaboytje 6 років тому

      Adam Lee I agree. It takes every pedal for breakfast. But reveals how good or bad the pedals are. The ones on my board are the best I could find for my sound and playing. I test every pedal through my Two-Rock before buying it. Now I have a board with 10 pedals after a couple of years of searching for the best (for me). It also meant that my board costs as much as my amp lol. As you said: the amp sound is so amazing by itself, that a weak pedal will stand out.

    Here's my buying-a-Two-Rock story: I saw Matt Schofield on That Pedal Show. That's it. Knew I had to have one. Then I was left a not vast but also not trivial inheritance. Now I just have to get good enough to deserve to have it. It IS revealing. You'll improve or you'll sound like crap. I'm sounding just a little less like crap so I'm past being able to be satisfied by anything else. I got the Bi-Onyx and switched the tubes from EL34s to 6L6s and got the Schofield 4x10 cab. I don't sound nearly as good as Mick but that's not the amps fault. I get the audio equivalent of glimpses of how good this amp can sound and yeah - it's a Two Rock alright. Wait. Is that a Collings I-35? Damn it. Here we go again. Sell the boat I guess.

    • @ThatPedalShow
      @ThatPedalShow  6 років тому +12

      Hey Jeff, our condolences/congratulations in equal measure. You’re right about the revealing thing - it can be frustrating at times, and I really wish more kids/people who are convinced digital is finally there could experience a musical instrument like this. For sure it’s not for everyone, but man the inspiration and creativity this thing brings out it me is remarkable. And some of my other amps too to be fair, in different ways.
      The guitar is a Gibson Memphis 1958 ES-335. I would love a Collings I-35 however I was looking for a really classic 335 this time around. Cheers!

    • @jeffmorris9893
      @jeffmorris9893 6 років тому +9

      No my mistake. It's a 335. With the tears and all I couldn't see clearly.

      Hahaha!!!!

    • @jeffmorris9893
      @jeffmorris9893 6 років тому +3

      Thing about digital is that no matter how good it is (and it is very good!) it wouldn't effect me the same way. Listener might not know the difference recorded or live but I would know. I've played my Tele, Les Paul CS, Es335 and Strat through this TR (I did say it was a nice inheritance) and having done that I can't have the same experience with a Helix, whatever. Two Rocks, Friedmans and other high peso hand wired amplifiers aren't for our audiences. They're for us, whether we deserve them or not (there's no way I do).

    • @jeffmorris9893
      @jeffmorris9893 6 років тому +3

      BTW get yourself a $150 Gretsch Jim Dandy (let me finish) put electric 10s or 11s on it and play it (blues) like it's electric. Unbelievable sustain and gain. I wouldn't mind an amp sounding like that. Through luck or whatever, they're amazing little guitars. They don't require a case or gigbag. Can't break one and the dents and scratches just make them play better.

      I’d really like to hear that speaker - that’s the EV-style one, right?

    • @avimuno
      @avimuno 6 років тому

      It is indeed WGS' take on the EVM12L. It doesn't sound exactly like an EV however, as the WGS12L has more presence in the mids. The person who talked me into trying that speaker kept telling me that it was like an EV - powerful, high headroom with a lot of punch and clarity - but with more character and more akin to a guitar speaker than an EV (which, as you know, some people tend to find a little sterile). I would tend to agree with that statement. When exchanging emails with Eli, he actually advised I stick with an EV as he had not tried the WGS12L, but I'm glad I went that way. AB-ing my Classic Reverb Sig with & Two-Rock 12-65B and the WGS12L, I notice a little more punch in the bottom-end and clarity in the WGS, but slightly more presence in the mids from the 12-65B. I'm quite happy with the WGS12L as it allows me to keep carrying a 112 cabinet (albeit a heavy one) and it can handle the power the Classic Reverb Sig delivers. It also gets the amp a little closer to the bold(er) tones à la SRV/Philip Sayce IMHO.

      @@ThatPedalShow I finally saw a few more demos of this amp with High gain pedals and with some classic rock and country music , so it seems to one of the better "Pedal Platform " amps to be had.

      That Pedal Show your playing sounded awesome! And it's so nice it makes you feel great! I've just splurged on a 633 amp don't know if you have heard of them but it gives me the same feeling :)

  • @mpeskett
    @mpeskett 6 років тому

    Totally with you on the 'feel' thing. I've also thought similarly about guitars I own, I have a Suhr for example. I'm hardly a highly-skilled guitar player, so it might seem like I should just get by with a Squier or something. But the way a guitar like a Suhr, or an amp such as a Two-Rock actually makes you 'feel' when you play - that is, as you say, all the difference in the world.

    love how youre gushing over this amp. i got a studio pro and its the best amp ive ever played and the best way i can describe is the sound is 3 dimensional. one thing is if im playing sloppy, these amps are not forgiving. one day i would love to have a custom reverb or a classic reverb.

  • @ShiningEyeBrigade
    @ShiningEyeBrigade 5 років тому +1

    I have a Two Rock Custom (model before the Custom reverb when the original Two Rock owners still owned it)I started off trying to love the drive channel for years. I LOVE drive channel when I can crank it super loud but I only get to do that at outdoor festival style gigs. For the lower volume stuff, I finally started using OD pedals through the clean channel and now have fallen in love with that over the drive channel at low volumes. Specifically a tchula. though had a Analogman KOT as well, that sounded amazing too.

    • @ThatPedalShow
      @ThatPedalShow  5 років тому

      Yep! Amp OD of that nature really needs to be cranked IMO. Mick here. Power section needs to be doing its thing. Glad it's working for you!

    I love amps like that, I call them unforgiving. That revealing quality you speak of. I like when the amp makes me feel exposed. It's scary in the beginning but then it becomes the most inspiring! I am dying to play through them at NAMM!

    Mick and Dan are doing 2 gigs a week on UA-cam and thousands of people are turning up. The word fraud should never be uttered again. I sit visually what looks like 6 to 10ft from you guys and watch and listen to you play and get a free education on TONE. Best gigs I've ever been to!!!!!

    Such lush tone even without reverb or delay - spot on.
    I would love to see an A/B with your Two Rock, a dumble clone and the super. It would be interesting to visualize their EQ curves as well to compare the blackface mid scoop to the stronger mids if your amp

    I have been looking through old vids, have you fellas done a comparison between the classic reverb and the Bloomfield Drive? I would love to see that as I have never been able to even see a two rock before... ): and from what I've heard, these two are probably both my dream amps...

    Hi Mick! THAT is a HUGE-HUGE sound. I think this is one of the best of Two Rock's amps so far. How I wish I could afford one. But hey! I'm happy with my Studio Pro Plus. I bought a 50 W combo. I asked your opinion beforehand if you could recall it. I think Matt Schofield was right: more is more, so I don't mind I didn't chose the 35 W. Nowadays I'm thinking sometimes that a head and cab sounds better or at least fuller although I'm very happy with what I have. Thanks again for your thoughts on Two Rock amps you gave me roughly 2 years ago and many thanks for the sonic experience in this video. Congrats Mick!

    • @ThatPedalShow
      @ThatPedalShow  6 років тому

      Thank you Zsolt. Studio Pro Plus is awesome. I had the regular one as a 50 and it was immense. I only sold it because I was broke. :0( Fantastic amps. Thanks for watching!

    That crafty fiddle with the g string tuner - 335 and les paul players everywhere know that one. Being constantly out of tune is the price of TONE. I love Mick's enthusiasm about this amp, exactly how I feel about my '77 Vibrosonic (neighbours be damned).

    • @ThatPedalShow
      @ThatPedalShow  6 років тому
