THAT was extremely informative. I really liked the detail on how Dan goes about setting up the board, what his GigRig devices do and how to wire them, and the little bit at the end where Matt talks about the increased gain and positive change of tone by getting all his pedals isolated in the Quartermaster loop (getting them all true bypassed) was especially enlightening. Thanks Dan and Mick for sharing this video (and behind the scenes look at GigRig).
This is the video I've been waiting for! While I truly enjoy the entertainment value of the more elaborate boards, Matt's needs are more in line with my own. That Pedal Show is the one guitar/music channel that has never to let me down. There is always something beneficial to take away and humor to brighten my day. Thank you guys!
+Steven Dobias this is what I love about pedals. You can get so specific about how best to apply it for someone's rig. Matt's tone is all about the dynamics in his playing, and his pedals reflect this. My entire concept is getting things out the way when they're not needed, and for a player with such immense dynamics, it makes a big difference :)
It'd be cool to see you guys do a challenge where instead of your bigger boards, you guys put together a metro 24 board. Curious to see what you guys would have on there! Love the show!
Just amazed seeing how humble and talented Matt is. This pedal board is just fantastic, I'm building mine and I've got some great tips here. Thanks a lot for an incredible experience
Mid-week bonus! Such a great and clean board...love it! We need more of these build videos :) Also...never hurts to hear the clips again from Matt's amazing episode! Keep up the awesome work!
Daniel, huge mistake not to leave the Korg Miku on there for Matt...Imagine the tones! The creativity! :P :D These pedal builds from you are absolutely among the "best" guitar gear vids around. DON'T. EVER. STOP. please....
i had a couple epiphanies while watching this video. The first was the insight between what the differences are between a musician and an artist. And seeing Matt's method for dialing in an amp or pedal explains so much about how to get the best sound for the music you want to convey. In summary, all gear has sweet spots and this where they sound best. Matt is a great artist and guitar player. And TPS is a fantastic channel :)
Thanks a lot for putting this video together, so interesting to see a pedal board get built from scratch with specific requirements for such an amazing artist! Thanks again!!
I love these kind of videos, theres something so... entrancing (?) about Dan making bored for people, watched all of those videos on the old channel, been waiting for one on this one for a while now, so thanks guys!
I would love to see more videos like this. Maybe different sized boards for different types of music? The Andy Timmons build takes the cake but Matt Schofield is one of my favorites as well. Thanks!
That Pedal Show but in all seriousness I love the show! I have learned so much, improved my tone, and helped others improve theirs at my job. Keep up the amazing work guys. Best of wishes from Texas guys.
Great! A TPS video that I can fully watch during a lunchbreak at work. Enjoyed it a lot. The detail, passion and knowledge that he puts in his work keeps astounding me. Cheers ;)
Question: Matt was having tremendous noise issues when he appeared on "That Pedal Show". Did the Generator and Gig Rig setup help alleviate the extraneous noise he was having? I know that when I switched to my Generators et al, the lack of noise in my rather large rig was staggering- not only was the signal passing through without inhibition, but it was deadly quiet! Amazing stuff you've done Dan, kudos to you!
+Francis Gori Absolutely Francis. We were expecting the noise to have improved... but even I was amazed at Matt's reaction to the tonal difference (Mick here).
Great to open UA-cam and see this, especially as I'm looking to begin an analogue board build in the next week or so. Very helpful, cheers guys, great job as always :)
Thanks for this! As much as I "want" a g2, as it is always a silent star in the videos...I don't really have a need for one despite using quite a few pedals; but, only one midi (a tc delay, that I'm probably too thick to program anyway) , and I'm fairly set in my ways with drive order, etc. The quartermasters are very impressive! I imagine they will tame some issues with some very old modulation effects too, because the are isolated in their own loop? They have a very small footprint as well. This is the type of content that really makes y'all the best! Much appreciated!
Awesome. I love the pedal board build videos. I find it difficult to manage all the cables on my board sometimes and got a few good tips from this one. Thanks!
Awesome as always!!! i would love to see a special guest episode with mr peter honoré, that would be awesome, my favorite jams are with him and mick cheers guys
Whelp this made me realize that I have too many pedals on my board and they're probably the reason I think my tone sucks. Time to start saving for a G2! Thanks guys - opened my eyes.
Absolutely amazing vid on making a pedal board. Love it. Some great recommendations on patch cables and cabling. This was the piece I was missing when watching you guys. Everything always sounded so great - now I can see the work that gets done in the background so that I can do some of this stuff myself. Huge thank you!
+Kevin Coulter Thank you Kevin. A lot of people are sceptical about the benefit of good power and simple loop switching. Hopefully this helps. Thanks so much for watching and for the kind words!
Brilliant as always chaps! Making me totally rethink my pedal board now... also, if ever you want to do a video on passive vs active pickups I've got a lovely late 70s Roger Giffin Strat you could borrow with... wait for it...very early single coil EMGs which I'd love to hear Mick play and give his opinion on (even if he hated them😀)
+Bill Sherrington Hahahaha!!! I hate them in theory Bill... but whenever I play them I always kinda like them for that clean thing. It's a sound for sure, and Mr Gilmour doesn't seem to mind. :0) Roger Giffin. Cool!
Fantastic. As an electronic engineer, I really enjoy these kind of works. If I had some kind of good quality products at an affordable price here (our import taxes are prohibitive)...Still, I am very curious about "inside the GigRig stuff". Indeed, I really like your products, Dan...Congrats...
This video turned me on to the QuarterMaster switchers. The G2 is way more than I would ever need, but with 5 sizes, there's a QuarterMaster for everyone! In fact, I know of at least a few "pro" UA-cam pedal demoers that NEED the QMX-2 as they do vs. videos with non-true-bypass pedals chained together in series. You can't get an accurate representation of the differences when both pedals are being affected by each other's buffer! Anyway, now to do some intense thinking about which QuarterMaster to get!
Awesome board, and yes it would take my brain to also "readjust" after using the pedals for years without any switching assistance like that. One thing that really stands out for me is the simplicity, really like Matt's approach.
It's funny. I saw this just before trying out my board with a new true-bypass switcher with Lava Tightrope cables, and I experienced the same exact thing as described @ 24:00. It really took me by surprise because before the loop/switcher pedal, I used all true bypass pedals and short cable runs, and they didn't sound any duller or quieter than when I used to run a buffer in front of them. Not only did I have to turn my gain pedals' volume down, I had to turn the treble down on my amp. And the difference was not subtle.
Dan, Thank you for this video. I've been pondering whether I wanted a metro 20/24 or something else and this gave me a much better feel for the room on one. I have a Novo 32 for my home board but I'm making a travel board. Thanks!!
Loved watching this super efficient process you’ve honed to perfection over the years and then, when testing to see if you have signal, you get sidetracked with the miku pedal and are just laughing and can’t stop playing it! I expected to see a ‘spongebob” screen wipe come up: “2 days later...” with you still playing a few notes and laughing. 😂
Thank you so much Dan for this great video...it would be so nice if you could give us the listing exact name and references for, Generator and Gig Rig and isolators you used for that pedalboard thanks so muc h Dan, absolutly great job!
I had a show idea when watching the Matt Schofield episode that something you said about his delays in this brought it back up... Could you do a show on "always on" pedals? I know a lot of guys run their compressor always on, or a light OD (Klon/e, EP Booster, Blues Driver, Lightspeed, Morning Glory), or a delay, or a reverb, or an EQ, or a light trem. So the what and why and how of always on pedals.
+Kyle B A few people have asked for this Kyle. Not sure there are any rules really. Dan and I always have a pedal on.... but maybe not always the same one! :0) We'd see it as a way of making a humdrum amp a little less lacklustre or simply changing your fundamental tone... or indeed adding a little more than a buffer to make sure your signal stays present and strong. I wonder if there's another question in here somewhere - ie what would you like to achieve? Cheers! (Mick here)
Was that the same Miku they used on the Anderton's review? Does the same pedal make the rounds and give each UA-cam guitar channel fifteen minutes of giggles?
Cool vid. Given me some ideas.....Anyway, I can confirm that the cable tie option works for an MXR power brick under a Pedaltrain. Incidentally, I use the MXR because when I tried a different power supply solution (with a direct "kettle lead" mains connection) my Bad Horsie Wah was very noisy.
Hey guys, if the opportunity ever comes up, it would be super cool to have a full episode featuring Steven Wilson or another with Dave Gregory. They've both got such cool approaches to the music and gear
That was fascinating to watch...and hear. The Metro 24 is a convenient size for a smaller board, but it begs the question...why does Pedaltrain continue to use the short feet on the small boards? Sure makes it hard to mount many power supplies.
Matt is hands down one of my favorite players ever. Incredible phrasing and tone.
Me too. Mick here :0)
As you can hear, even that small board profits from loopswitcher ;).
+tremelo68 ah, cheers mate. You're very welcome. :)
Matt walks on stage, looks down to see six korg miku pedals...
6 mikus: the signal would probably come out 'straight'/normal.
I would actually really like to hear miku through the sub'n'up. You would get the voice of her little sister miki. Older brother miko and satan :)
Everyone needs a tuner, and a Miku, plus a few back-up Miku's, priorities after all.
We all love the Miku, but has anybody here purchased one (other than Dan of course)?
Bruce Johnson the Miku in this video is actually mine, Dan has more sense than to own one 😂😂😂
These are my fav pedal show videos. Builds for touring musicians.
Dan & Mick I LOVE the Show !!! Matts Schofield Love his Tone !!! You All ROCK !!!
+Jakexx01 Excellent, nice one Jake, thanks for watching!
Love this Matt Schofield follow-up. Love the simple board you put together here. Supports the design principle - Less is more and more is less!
This is masterful work. I've never seen a board this tidy done from start to finish. I learned a LOT today.
+johnbeamon Excellent, thanks John!
Dan is like Pedalboard Merlin. Just some sort of tone wizard of the highest order. I could listen to and watch him work all day and never get bored.
My OCD (not the pedal) is so happy with Dan's tidy and neat way of working...so happy
Even with the "flip flop" functionality Matt was still turning a pedal off before switching to another like a good lad :P
Fantastic build Dan!
+DarksignHunter He's getting used to it!
It'd be cool to see you guys do a challenge where instead of your bigger boards, you guys put together a metro 24 board. Curious to see what you guys would have on there! Love the show!
+Josh Llamas Mick here. QMX 6, D&M Drive, Klon, TC Chorus, some kind of harmonic trem, FTT delay. We should do this!
Josh Llamas I second that request... Metro 24s are the perfect boards for bar/pub players... would be great to see a challenge for some ideas
That Pedal Show now Dan's please haha
what? no tube screamer??? sacrilage!!!!
Thank you so much for this. I love watching Dan make boards. Also Matt has helped me so much working with my tone knobs, looking for the sweet spots.
+tunaXonXtoast cheers mate. Yeah, every time I touch an amp now I do the Matt Schofield knob twist :)
We live in a golden era of pedalstuff. Amazing! Thanks very much for this inspiration. Greetz from Carsten
Just amazed seeing how humble and talented Matt is. This pedal board is just fantastic, I'm building mine and I've got some great tips here. Thanks a lot for an incredible experience
a Tuesday upload that is both helpful to builders like me AND has some Matt playing? BEAUTIFUL!!!
Boy, seeing the smile on his face during soundcheck must have felt good. Great job as always fellas!
Watching him make pedalboards relaxes me lol i have the same pedaltrain metro 24 and it was a hell of a mess 😁
Love these Pedalboard build vids with Dan! cheers!
A clean pedalboard is just pure and righteous. LOVE the build videos!!
Cheers Jason :)
Always interesting watching the boards being built Dan and he sounded great at the gig!
Hiya Mick & Dan I will be seeing Matt this Friday night any words to pass on .Looking forward to the clinic before the show aswell should be cool .
Mid-week bonus! Such a great and clean board...love it! We need more of these build videos :) Also...never hurts to hear the clips again from Matt's amazing episode! Keep up the awesome work!
Im watching That Pedal Show while using my That Pedal Show drink coasters. Cheers!!!!
Really cool to see how amazing the production value of these board setup videos has become over the years!
My take away, more than anything else in this video, is thatI know I'm gonna order a Quartermaster. It's exactly what I need!!!
Daniel, huge mistake not to leave the Korg Miku on there for Matt...Imagine the tones! The creativity! :P :D These pedal builds from you are absolutely among the "best" guitar gear vids around.
DON'T. EVER. STOP. please....

Yes, yes, yes! Happy Tuesday to us all!
I would love to see more videos like this. Maybe different sized boards for different types of music? The Andy Timmons build takes the cake but Matt Schofield is one of my favorites as well. Thanks!
yes, will do more board builds, absolutely :)
Dan is like the dumble of pedal boards 😍
+wesley .walcott He'll be so happy about that. :0)
That Pedal Show happy enough to build me a board?😂
That Pedal Show but in all seriousness I love the show! I have learned so much, improved my tone, and helped others improve theirs at my job. Keep up the amazing work guys. Best of wishes from Texas guys.
HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Its not a competition, but you win! Hahahaha
Daniel TheGigRig Dan comments!?*immediately screen shots and sends to my friend at stewmac
Thanks guys, wasn't expecting this mid-week present!
Great! A TPS video that I can fully watch during a lunchbreak at work. Enjoyed it a lot. The detail, passion and knowledge that he puts in his work keeps astounding me. Cheers ;)
Nothing like the Miku for a true blues tone.
Really liked this one! Love the build videos, and this is such a clean, simple board.
Love to see a man happy in his work - great guys
Question: Matt was having tremendous noise issues when he appeared on "That Pedal Show". Did the Generator and Gig Rig setup help alleviate the extraneous noise he was having?
I know that when I switched to my Generators et al, the lack of noise in my rather large rig was staggering- not only was the signal passing through without inhibition, but it was deadly quiet! Amazing stuff you've done Dan, kudos to you!
+Francis Gori Absolutely Francis. We were expecting the noise to have improved... but even I was amazed at Matt's reaction to the tonal difference (Mick here).
I just keep learning from you guys and it is so good to hear Matt's magic playing. Duly inspired, I am going to tidy up my board now.
A Miku in TPS, now I can die in peace, I've seen everything life can offer me, thanks guys!
so brilliant, and so worth the money, top shelf quality work, glad to see musicians lift each other to a higher level. really cool.
Yeeeeesssssss!!!.. More Pedalboard Build videos pleaaaaase!!... Maybe Noel's and Gem's were recorded??.... please..
+ntfb85 unfortunately we didn't get to film those builds, but will have more builds on the way
Great to open UA-cam and see this, especially as I'm looking to begin an analogue board build in the next week or so. Very helpful, cheers guys, great job as always :)
Dan, you have quite a few tricks up your sleeve. This is quite educational.
Loved this video !
Great to see behind the scenes & an in depth look into Matt's new board !
Cheers !
This is the type of content that really makes y'all the best!
Much appreciated!
Im in debt to your cable tying power supply idea. Id tried several ways with my Metro 24. This is the best way by far. Thank you!
+freakopt yes, must get Pete on the show
Awesome video! Miss the regular supplemental Tuesday content!
+bryankur We wish we could do more. Hopefully one day time and resources will allow!
Effective and simple. Love it! Still, that 2-story pedal case with the hinge off top floor still comes to me in my dreams. ;)
+Shahin Nomani You need both, obviously... :0)
Couldn't agree more! Not too sure if my wife manages to see the obvious though. ;))
this is so helpful! had a good laugh at the miku. never seems to get old!
I know you guys get this a lot, but this channel is awesome guys, seriously.
ah, cheers matey :)
Thanks for sharing, fantastic looking board. I really the QuarterMaster and when I grow up I want to sound like Matt!
19:32 Matt walks on with a pack of crisps like, "Nice work, Pedal Servant!" 🤣
+The Hard Problem hahahahahaha, I'm honoured to be Matt's Pedalboard surf ;)
Whelp this made me realize that I have too many pedals on my board and they're probably the reason I think my tone sucks. Time to start saving for a G2! Thanks guys - opened my eyes.
Dan, you are a wizard! So good!!!
Absolutely amazing vid on making a pedal board. Love it. Some great recommendations on patch cables and cabling. This was the piece I was missing when watching you guys. +Kevin Coulter Thank you Kevin. A lot of people are sceptical about the benefit of good power and simple loop switching. Hopefully this helps. Thanks so much for watching and for the kind words!
If I was the support act and I heard that sound check I would effing cry.
Thanks for the tip on the Evidence Audio patch cords. Got some and love them!
Cool!
Great video!!!!! Always fun and instructional. I only own an acoustic guitar but i always watch your show. Cheers!!!!!
Fantastic. As an electronic engineer, I really enjoy these kind of works. If I had some kind of good quality products at an affordable price here (our import taxes are prohibitive)...Still, I am very curious about "inside the GigRig stuff". Indeed, I really like your products, Dan...Congrats...
Omg that patch cable in between the Quartermasters is so cute !!
(and yes, I know... I'm weird).
Man best episode in ages (Love the others too but this is just so good see practical application)
14:28 Omg, such a satisfying sound!
seriously, being in the room with that at volume, was biblical
This video make me ordered a Quartermaster 6 loops...thanks That Pedal Show! :)
+Jonathan Veillette awesome!
I see at the end he was still switching them on and off manually, not "flip flopping"...? Such an awesome board!
+Paul Hodgson It was literally the first time he'd plugged it in. Habits!
i just wanted to point that out too haha he didnt quite get it at first :D
Maybe he was just wanting to hear the clean tone
Maybe he enjoys tap dancing.
Awesome board, and yes it would take my brain to also "readjust" after using the pedals for years without any switching assistance like that. One thing that really stands out for me is the simplicity, really like Matt's approach.
Amusing, informative and totally BRIIILLIANT!
I love this show.
It's funny. I saw this just before trying out my board with a new true-bypass switcher with Lava Tightrope cables, and I experienced the same exact thing as described @ 24:00. Not only did I have to turn my gain pedals' volume down, I had to turn the treble down on my amp. And the difference was not subtle.
It looks like he's adding an extra foot press on the flip flops. I'm assuming this is because it's new to him. The quartermaster is so cool.
HEY DAN matt sounded really good in your room on THAT PEDAL SHOW but here on stage KILLER TONE!
+ben galvin when you hear him in context with his band, it's biblical
Dan, Thank you for this video. I've been pondering whether I wanted a metro 20/24 or something else and this gave me a much better feel for the room on one. I have a Novo 32 for my home board but I'm making a travel board. Thanks!!
+Jonathan Davis great stuff, cheers J :)
Thanks for doing a Metro 24 video! This is the board I use and it gave me some good ideas
Great video. Love the Pedal Show and love Matt S.
I really want a serious song using the korg miku throughout. Deep lyrics, great sounding drums and the strangest sounding lead guitar in the world.
yes!!!! Im on it!!! :)
die hard fan of this show now absolutely love it!
It's a great Tuesday!
I only use 1 or two pedals at the most. I still feel I need one of those gig rigs. Nice work, Dan.
+crush537 You may not for two pedals.... Good isolated power and nice, low capacitance cables should do the trick!
Thank you so much Dan for this great video...it would be so nice if you could give us the listing exact name and references for, Generator and Gig Rig and isolators you used for that pedalboard thanks so muc h Dan, absolutly great job!
Great as allways.. Wish the gigrig made a simple programmable strip loop switcher.. Without midi and with banks... That would be awesome.. Keep it up!
Cheers! (Mick here)
Ooh a Tuesday treat ;)
A work of art!
Mad Professor love! Yay Finland on the map.
Perfect little board! Love it!
Was that the same Miku they used on the Anderton's review? Does the same pedal make the rounds and give each UA-cam guitar channel fifteen minutes of giggles?
Great video. Totally solved the hum problems.
Your a genius Daniel Hopefully when I get my pedals and all sorted out I can retain your services for the final product Best wishes for TPS in 2019
You’re *
Could the Generator sit on the board and even have a MIDI controller sit on it, presuming noise isn't an issue?
Would love to see more build videos like this
+Jesse Hopkins We have some on the way.... :0)
+Anchovy Run yep, coming soon ;)
Super pumped guys, keep up the great work!
Do more of these. I remember the Andy Timmons one when you flew to Germany.
I love that just as I start to wonder what the board is and look for info, Mick asks "and what board is that?"
That was fascinating to watch...and hear. The Metro 24 is a convenient size for a smaller board, but it begs the question...why does Pedaltrain continue to use the short feet on the small boards? Sure makes it hard to mount many power supplies.
