Life too short for long UA-cam videos? Please see the ‘Interesting bits and go-to sections’ information below.
In this episode we take an introductory look at stereo and wet-dry-wet rigs. We begin by explaining the basics of a stereo amp arrangement, before demonstrating some common effects - chorus, reverb and delay - in the stereo field.
We then move on to talking about the new Orange Rocker 32 amp as an example of a modern amp that can take a stereo effects return… before plunging headlong into full wet-dry-wet territory.
And then there’s a Eurovision nightmare to finish.
This should be fun…

A nice stereo reverb just moved in next door.... Neunaber! (Ba-boom-tish!) 😝
+Piplodocus You win the Internet today. Bravo!
:D
Lol chappers and the captain of were making the same joke in their review
This is the best channel for guitar players on UA-cam. Thanks guys for such great videos and content. I've learned a ton by watching you guys.
+george macris Thank you George, very kind of you to say!
agreed, excellent stuff!!
Gotta second that. Despite showing off a ton of expensive gear they do provide helpful insights for guitar players and haven't caved in to doing infomercials like other UA-camrs. I've learnt so much from these guys.
true!
really?? do you have a link, thatd be really great :)
I've been really sick for the past two days, unable to even muster the energy to play. This morning (3:30 am Los Angeles time), I was feeling a little better and decided to catch up on some vids. After watching half of this one, I found myself reaching for my guitar. Cut to an hour and a half later, I'm now back to finish the video. I guess what I'm saying is you guys have a truly infectious love for the instrument and inspire others to play. You're both excellent players too. Keep up the great work!
+Phil Sackett That's fantastic to hear Phil, thanks for sharing that. We wish you all the best for feeling better!
Was re-watching the video "Stereo vs Wet/Dry For Two-Amp Rigs: Which Would You Choose?" when I got the notification about this one..... WHAT?!?!
BEAUTIFUL!
+Bernardo Faria Yes!
I came from being totally addicted to Andertons guitar demos to now working my way through That Pedal Show. Great fun informative channel guys. Insipred me to play more guitar and experiment with pedals which I never really did befoe.
+Richard Excellent! Glad you enjoy it Richard. So much excellent stuff out there. We're lucky to be in such wonderful company out there on the 'Tooob.
LOL! Best phase demonstration/explanation i have ever seen.
+npinero1 Yes! Professionals would have paid for fancy ass on-screen graphics. Not us, no way. ;0)
Choreography makes a much larger impression than do fancy ass on-screen graphics anyway! "Ooh eh ooh eh oui!"
That Pedal Show I assumed it was an interpretive dance 😂
The wet-dry-wet setup sounds absolutely brilliant!
+error Huge isn't it. Massiveness!
Wet-Dry-Wet is a truly inspiring system but too difficult to achieve! To take care of three amps all together is a luxury for most of us...What about a stereo parallel system? Is it a easier solution for you guys?
You can get wet-dry-wet with the Orange by adding just one other amp and running stereo outputs from pedals to one of the stereo returns and the other to the other amp's return.....so basically the rocker does wet and dry in its two speakers and the external amp does the other wet.....pretty cool.
Well yes, I didn't considered any stereo amp for that! I should consider the idea of buying a stereo amp one day...But I think a stereo parallel set up is awesome as well as the wet-dry-wet! Take a look on the new system used by Steve Lukather, who was a great wet-dry-wet user and now he is running through a stereo parallel set up. Huge huge sound!
I agree completely man but I do like the little bit of dry in the mix, sometimes it just pushes through the mix a bit better, just the opinion of my aging ears though ;-). I suppose my only gripe about the stereo set-up in one amp is that you really need to mic it up to get the effect properly. The speakers are maybe a bit close to fully appreciate stereo in a live situation but it was really exciting to see my amp on the show haha. :-)
That pedal show is all I need
All I need is that pedal show
Mick and Dan, thx for spending some time on this video. This is something that I constantly struggle with from a sound point of view. I have had spent many hours thinking about how to setup the rig for maximum goodness. Thumbs up.
the Neunamber is an awesome reverb, glad you used it for this demo. I love it!!!
This episode was extra magical to listen to through headphones! Fantastic stuff as always!
There are literally thousands of guitar-gear oriented channels on youtube. Some are even terrific. That Pedal Show is totally in a class by itself. BEST IN CLASS, boys...
+Joe Satchton Oh blimey, thank you so much Joe!
lol, you're welcome, but honestly, I just calls 'em as I sees em. Any sensible human who truly loves gear and guitar feels the same as I do. :)
Dan losing it at the end made this video beyond worth the watch. holy cow. I'm sure we can all relate to losing it like that. such great sounds. such good times.
This is VERY timely, as I have just started converting from mono to stereo for playing live AND recording. Thanks guys!
It's a pleasure to watch the two of you. As always, great content, no gimmicks, just straight to the point👍 many thanks for your (uploads/work)
I love what you guys do! It opens my eyes to what's possible. If the visual quality doesn't load well on YT, I couldn't care less. I'm here, every week, to appreciate the sounds, feel and in-tune playing. Great work, Dan & Mick
Awesome demo! Keep up the great work guys!
Watching this 2 days after finishing putting my own wet dry rig together after watching your old original video on this! Cheers, keep making great content
love the wet dry wet sound that is amaze balls!! thanks for the videos as always. Forever a fan!
You guys are great! I saw Ed O'Brien and co. two weeks ago and was stumped on the new amps he's touring with. They sounded fantastic as always. Thanks again!
You guys finally used an orange amp and it's my favorite one right now. I order my rocker 32 same day it was announced at NAMM this year. Thank you guys for always making interesting and awesome content.
I'm thinking that after this you should do a show on how to avoid ground loops.
Apart from "buy the G2 and all accessories" of course. ;)
Hi Fletcher Radial makes products that eliminate ground loops like the Shotgun product for example.
Great sounds, and great fun. Thanks guys.
Super helpful and informative.
Once again you hit it guys, I'm just in the process how to get the stereosignals right.
Thank you for that.
It is a joy to see you two having so much fun with sound, and so many choice amps!!
+Simon Smith cheers Simon, yeah, so much fun
I agree i appreciate this stuff so much!! learning so much video after video!! thanks D and M !! you kickass
Another great learning lesson (stereo/mono signal)...that Echolution looks like loads of fun!
Gussy Wells!
OMG!!! I love this episode!!!
Love that strat sound Mick.😍
Trying to explain complicated concepts in a way that is entertaining, informative, easy to understand, very funny and none patronising is not easy. Well done on accomplishing this once again gentlemen.
This video is solid gold. The wet/dry/wet is absolutely amazing! It took me a second watch to realize that the orange amp was a stereo amp - fantastic hearing the timeline in a stereo fx loop. Been looking for a stereo amp for a while and this might be the perfect thing for me. Gonna go watch this again :)
The guitar tones in this episode are amazing
the wet only chorus effect made me feel sick.... fantastic!
4:47 dan's "what the fuck are we doing" silent laugh 😂
I just got the Rocker 15 and I love it! I was fascinated with the idea of the stereo 32, but I need to be able to run lower voltages. Fun fact about the 32 is you can use it for wet dry as well by only patching into one of the returns.
I was watching your older video of using more than one amp early. This video has helped me greatly, as I am wanting to run a Hot Rod with my V40. This has confirmed that I will be doing that. Cheers!
+Sean Ellis You won't believe how massive it can sound Sean. Thanks for watching!
You guys have educated my ear so much in this series. Thanks again for producing such great videos. Being able to hear the wet/dry chorus alone was pure educational gold.
+Joseph Decker Nice one Joseph, glad you're finding it helpful. Thanks for watching!
opening riff...beautiful Dan
+selenaandjon cheers matey
This channel is already my favorite, but this episode is stellar - and then you go and do that dance at the end. Thanks for the laughs
awesome again guys like george macris iv'e learnt a hell of a lot watching your vids, cant wait for
the D and M drive many thanks.
+david moss Cheers David!
Awesome tones as usual Dan and Mick. Killer job. Being born deaf on one ear I can't hear the stereo aspect of the tones but it sure sounds great in my own "world of mono". Keep up the good work.
Your best show yet and that is saying something! I have dome loads of gigs with a wet dry wet rig and you are spot on with the soundman reaction. After they hear it they are typically very happy as it is very easy for them to deal with.
+Mike Ohman yep, having a separate wet mix does give the sound guy more control
Excellent guys, my question which you answered perfectly related to how to use the effects loops of 2 combo’s with a stereo set up. My original material is all recorded in stereo, so reproducing the effect live is important to me.
Your explanation is really helpful as using modulation or delay in the front end of my Boogie doesn’t work great, yet through the loop, sound fantastic, it’s less of an issue with my Marshall or Blackstar gear which work fine through the front. Using just one pre amp makes sense with the split being facilitated via the effects & returns of each amp’s loop. Many thanks, keep up the fantastic work👏👏👍👍👍
I love the wet-dry-wet set up!
Hey guys - this video needs an advisory warning! There's no way this is a 49:42 length video after my multiple rewinds & listens! ;) Great stuff!! The laptop speakers weren't cutting it. Commencing round #2 with headphones! Been waiting on this one for a while.
I hooked up Wet/Dry the other night. Loved it. All my speakers were in phase, but I did worry about ground loop issues. Not sure I fully understand the ground loop thing, but I guess to be safe I should pick up something to isolate. When I hooked up the other night I had no hum at all. Thanks!
Such a great episode this week! I'm blown away at how good the wet-dry-wet sounds and how much of a difference it makes! Single amp setups will never seem the same :)
+Brian Tobia Indeed. Huge huh?
Crazy...I wasn't expecting it to make such a difference. I'm comparing it to the old turn it up to 11 adage now with play it through 3 :) Need to find some partners to go with my V40 now...
Have you tried the Lazy J in a three amp setup like this? Guessing it wouldn't sound bad :)
Awesome sounds, just a great way to end the week with this! I'd love to see a show about expression pedals and all of the possibilities therein. Perhaps a bit of an explanation how to uniquely use it with delay, filters (Blurst??) or other mind altering effects...cheers!
+southcorreia87 Yes, great shout. We should absolutely do this. Cheers!
southcorreia87 sounds good to me as well, get the Source Audio Reflex in there as the posh pedal.
Hands down the most informative channel on UA-cam in this genre. Thanks guys.
+JH Scofield Awww, thanks JH. We loved Blue Matter.
And I also need to hat tip Dan as well. Monster player! A HUGE Thanks for this incredible channel. No channel has inspired me more that this one. A new lesson each week - million thanks to you both!
+BasementShopGuy ah, cheers BSG ;)
Immense sound with wet-dry-wet! Well done guys :) Cheers!
Man, that wet dry wet stuff near the end sounded great- all the ambient stuff but with the guitar tone still aggressive and in your face and not sounding washed out and far away. Very cool.
Sitting here listening with studio monitors and good equipment. I can't keep a smile off my face just like you two. Amazing sounds, thanks for doing the hard work to bring it to us. Especially showing us options and explaining what the pedals are doing. I hope it's raining pineapples and grey nurses on you both. :)
Thank you kindly! All pineapples here. :0)
Great Video! To avoid a ground loop between my two amps, I use the great Palmer Line Isolation Box PLI-02!!
Aww yeah, the Rocker 32! I'm picking up a Rocker 15 this summer hopefully, and I was hoping to see one in one of your videos
Love that Orange Rocker 32. More power! this is the one that I am waiting for, the discussion regarding wet-dry-wet rig.
What can I say that hasnt been said.. Best show re gear ever. I learn something new with every episode..Love your playing as well!
+Johan Rautenbach Thank you John, and thanks for watching!
Was just looking for some such! You guys kick fat ace! Thank you
As always - loved this demo. One of the things that would be fun for you to teach - and I may do a video of it myself if I can ever make the time...is using 2 different delays into 2 different Amps. (Kind of like the Edge does on a lot of songs). He would have one delay set to a shorter time than the other and they were panned left and right. I've done a few experiments with this - sonic-ly and rhythmically - it's a blast!
Hey guys, another great... educational and dubiously humorous episode - Wells done! Awesome!
The solution to how to Mount the "Name-Drop Horn" is ohhh... so very simple - Microphone Stand!
A little surprised you couldn't work that out... after all this time??? haha... Keep up the great work!
Just made a "terrible discovery". If I turn up my headphones to max or one off max volume on my iPad with my sennheiser headphones it comes alive in a startling way. Man alive my hearing will take a battering! It seems to back Mick's assertion from last week about 2 amps putting something back that can be lost on UA-cam. Great show guys and I love your long sleeve t-shirts. 🎸🎸🎸
+Simon Williams cheers Simon :)
you made me feel old talking about the trading post. I had my rocktron vooduu valve rack unit come back after being on loan for 10 years. might try it stereo to relive the old days.
Great vid guys, brilliant. Love that Rocker 32. Surprised you didn't mention it also does true Wet Dry in addition to full stereo.
A lot of times I watch this show and it just reconfirms and validates some of the choices I've already made. Still gotta get another Twin so I can go full wet/dry/wet.
Excellent! Love this episode! I’ve always wanted the sound guy to look at me like I was “plucking his ….” Haha! Especially when I recently used a wet-dry-wet rig at church for the first time! Haha!
Anyways, this is great content and I love how much you have expanded on this revelatory sound scape through the years! Cheers! 👏
Dan and Mick, I watched this yesterday and created a wet dry rig at home this evening. I cheated, a bit because I don't have a Humdinger. Instead, I ran the guitar into the wah, compressor, and dirt pedals and then into a Blackstar HT5R. I took the 4x12 emulated output from the HT5R into my delay, reverb, and ditto looper, out into a Panama Conqueror 5. Omigolly, I am pleased! This! I have been searching for these tones and lush clarity and now it's here! Freaking brilliant! Thank you, dear lads, for your guidance and inspiration!
+Hamid Shibata Bennett Awesome! If it works, there’s no cheating. Glad you’re having fun. Wet dry is such a cool sound. Cheers!
That Pedal Show I've just lined up a couple solo guitar shows before the year is our and I'll bring this wet dry rig along. Dig all you do! Happy playing!
Hamid Shibata Bennett I have a blackstar HT5, and I had totally forgotten about the line in / emulation feature! Thanks for the reminder! I’ve been trying all sorts of things for recording !! /facepalm
there is literally nothing out there that would even compare to his show..unique and just brilliant!
+Juro Chovan ah, cheers J, really appreciate it
Best sounding Tele! Ever! This show is gonna cost me too much money!!!!! You guys make everything sound great!
Great episode. Huge stereo rigs involving racks are beyond me, but I would love another HRD or a BluesJr to build a stereo rig. That tele really is something special.
The Orange reminds me of the Fender twin reverb from the early 80's - beautiful amp ...
I'm a bass player and listening to the explanations in these videos has been amazing for getting me to understand how to organize my tone, effects, and amp/speaker usage (yes, that is an Oxford comma for ya). Really allowed me to diversify why musical experience. You two answer questions I wasn't aware I had and clarify the ones I do. That's pretty sweet you guys get to teach this stuff. I'm a teacher. I'm trained to deliver information through speech and actions. You guys nail it well. Good on ya boys.
+Aaron Carothers Thanks so much Aaron. We too are fans of a comma after and. Or at least I am. (Mick here). We really want to do some bass shows. Need to find an available bassist. Thanks for watching!
My fav wet dry effect is wah wah discovered it when trying wah bass cause I lost all my bottom end so I use 2 amps very dramatic stereo effect talk box works the same way like you I had a stereo chorus as a splitter great show
That orange is reminding me of an old marshall valvestate 2x12 stereo combo that had an awesome built in stereo chorus as well as the stereo loop.
Damn I miss that amp!
I run a wet/dry rig with no fx loops. I have modulation, gain etc into the front of the dry amp which is running a hot plate attenuator. The line out from the hot plate goes to a delay and into the wet amp. Sounds wicked!
Listening (watching) with some very nice PSB headphones. This show sounds amazing.
I have an Orange Amps Detonator, it's a buffered ABY pedal with a phase button, highly recommended.
awesome epidition! rawk on!
I run a Marshall Class 5 dry and a Vox AC10 wet all thanks to this show and it is a fantastically huge sound for essentially a 15 watt 2x10. Still a fun watch but really practical and useful too. Wish there was a show as helpful and entertaining as this for other instruments. Keep up the good work lads.
+Leo Cookman YES! Is all we have to say to that Leo. Yes and yes again!
Another great stereo amp is the Trace Elliot Vellocette Twin (aka. Gibson), 2x15 W EL86. I play mine over 15 Years. Mod. (Danelectro Chorus), Delay (Nova Repeater) in the stereo loop. It´s amazing. It´s very different from a mono amp. Thanks for your show guys. You both a amazing.
gear lust ... now I want a million and 1 different things, add the Orange Rocker 32 to my long wishlist, lol ... awesome video guys .... also, I'm glad to see one UA-camr with a Fryette Power Station in the background too, that product seems awesome, as it has some great flexible applications.
Immerse for sure !
What an amazing video
Dan, that EEP preset on the timeline sound amazing!! I'd love if you guys could release/ talk about some of your favorite presets and settings for the möbius, timeline and BigSky.
Ok I'm subscribed! Thank you for all the great demo's. This is right up my ally! I play in stereo with a Fender Supersonic (22-watts) and a Marshall Dual Super Lead (40-watts but used at 20-watts via the Marshall's half power switch. I split my signal with a Strymon Deco pedal.
+Jimmie Marchisotto Thanks Jimmie - great to have you aboard the good ship TPS. Some stellar sounds from that rig we bet!
That Deco splits and can put a delay/lag time between the amps to give a double track effect. I bet this sounds amazing. Would love to see a TPS episode covering ADT style stereo rig with that or the new Keeley ADT stereo pedal.
Based on Jimmy's description above and Kyle's reply below (I have the Deco pedal too), it doesn't appear that the rig setup is properly isolated simply by using the Deco to split the signal into two? Could be a nasty problem?
A Radial Stagebug SB-6 is a great phase AND ground loop solver for wet/dry/wet rigs. Small, simple, well-built. Highly recommended.
So cool how you can hear the effects immediately after they explain them.
I've been messing with the stereo 2 amp set up for awhile and I have finally settled on skipping the amps and run directly into the board with my pedal board. I run into a OD pedal and then into a Distortion pedal then to a Russian Muff, which runs into my Zoom G3X. The Zoom has a lot of great stereo effects. I especially like using the stereo echo which delivers a different timing on each channel. Nice huge expansive sound. Granted it took a lot of tweaking to get a nice clean fender amp sim, but no amps to haul or mic. You guys are great, funny and very knowledgeable. Nice playing too. Oh and i realized I can order that "All you need is Fuzz" T-shirt, Yay! Love your Pedal Show!
+vrodri1 Hooray to all of that. A couple of 4x12 cabs and you're there. ;0)
Love the show guys! Can you talk more about how to pair amps to put in a stereo rig of you ever talk more about stereo?
Awesome vid, immense sounds! Have you guys considered doing a HELIX vs Pedal shootout/opinion vid? Would be fascinated to get your opinions and insight.
Oh man, that dousenberg is so beautiful, please play it more often
I think the sticker is what makes the Tele sound so amazing. Definitely the sticker.
+Cyrus Fontaine my daughter put that on there when she was 3, she's now 12. It was during her sticker phase, I was practicing and she just walks up and sticks it in the scratch plate.
Haha, good on you for keeping it there!
Fabulous. "Push with me Mick!"
Awesome show as always, thanks :) If I could offer a suggestion for a future episode - I know you're That Pedal Show, but it would be absolutely amazing to see a video about rack setups. Having learned a lot about the G2 and its Extension Kit, I have a sneaking suspicion that it would do a brilliant job of taking care of a rack-based rig as well. Extension kit on the stage, G2 handling all the audio... There are loads of people that don't know how to connect all of that. On top of that, a lot of rack-based preamps have serial loops only, which then leads to a contentious debate about serial vs parallel loops... loads of viable subjects for a good show :)
I should have heard your advice before I bought an old Super Reverb. I plugged it in, went to sing in the microphone and got the biggest shock. Needless to say it was a hair-raising experience hahaha
In my VOX AC-15 I figured out that NORMAL and TOP BOOST chanells aren't working independently :D sooooo I took mono out from my TC FLASHBACK to one channel and stereo out to other and I got 2 channels working simultaneously! :) Of course I don't have any stereo effect because of one speaker, but now I can tell that my amp is breathing properly :) SO COOL!
Lol now we need that rack show! Tri stereo chorus, eventide h3000, lexicon pcms etc
Thanks a bunch guys - now I gotta go buy 2 more amps!
Great episode guys, very informative as always. I just like automatically nowadays cos I know it's top drawer before I watch,
Please do one on attenuators vs pedals for getting a cranked amp sound! Keep up the good work
