I'm back, folks! Will do a livestream on Friday at 4pm est!
He doesn't say "maybe I'm Faggot America", he says "maybe I'm the faggot, America".
Lets go thanks for uploading Iβve missed your content. Hope youβve been doing well at your new job!
Welcome back! I love your new hairstyle.
It is so respectable that in a time where artists were literally losing careers for mentioning the presidents name in a negative light, that they created an entire album where at least half the songs directly criticized and called out the presidency
So glad to see you back again! Such a great song, canβt wait to see more videos from you!
More to come! And thanks!
Definitely not the deepest Green Day song, but happy to have The Pop Song Professor back talking about historically my favorite band!
wow he changed *a lot* since I last saw him
Lol
I'd say that 18 years later we can be safe to say that Billie Joe was the one in the right about this subject. I think a super fun song for you to analyze next would be "Model Buses" by Lovejoy. It is a very fun song about what if Boris Johnson was just some normal dude instead of being a prime minister. Also Lovejoy has been very popular in the last year could help bring more new viewers to the channel.
Thanks, Noah! I'll add it to my personal playlist now and see if it stirs something explanatory inside of me.
Ah a fellow Lovejoy fan! Seeing an analytical stance on Model Buses would certainly be fun!
WOO! Yes! Iβve been waiting for a video since February 1st. Welcome back!
Thanks! It's good to be back. :)
I don't think I've been this excited for the return of someone since TOP! Good to have you back!
What?!! You mean I don't outrank TOP????!?!?!? jk jk
Iβm so glad to see you back on UA-cam. I hope you had a great break and just want to let you know that I love the new setup; it looks awesome!
Thanks! Still working on it, but more to come!
Nice to see you back, Cliff. Still feel fond about the days as a patreon getting my lyrics critiqued. I wish you a bloomful season of youtube content both creatively and in volume. And I love the hair
Haha, man! I remember those days. Hope you're doing well.
Hey your back!
I'm back!
Happy to see you back! Would love to hear you talk about anything, like maybe worst lyrics of 2021, or taking popular songs and breaking down lyrical cliches. That really helps me as a song writer.
No, you're totally right. That needs to happen.
Any suggestions?
great to see you back! :) awesome content as always
Thanks!
Glad youβre back
Loving the new set up! AND THE HAIR
Thank you! It took so much work to not cut it off in the summer.
Amazing video to come back with, one of the best songs and albums of all time!
So good, right?
@@ThePopSongProfessor 100%! Love the new setup!
I love this!!! I basically already knew the meanings and such, I just wanted to hear what you had to say
Hey, welcome back Cliff!!! π
Thanks! I'll talk more about where I've been on Friday at 4pm est!
Youβre back!!
So good to see you back again.
It's good to be back. Glad you're here!
So glad you are back! Missed you!
Never Take It by T0P
Awesome to see you back! Could you break down some more of Jay Joseph's songs?
Possibly!
Good to have u back!!!
Thank you!
It's amazing to have you back! I've been missing your stuff.
I've been feelin' Lady Gaga a lot lately for some reason. I'd love to see Paparazzi.
Roger that!
Good to see you back!
Thanks!
Welcome back, Clifford! Hope you're doing well!!
Thanks, Rico! Good to be back!
Omg your back, and rocking that hair
Haha, thanks!
YAYYYY this is my fav band of all timeππ₯
So good, right?
yes you are back! oh my goodness we have missed you a lot and the long hair is fantastic. Tyler should be jealous
Haha, that's the only reason I did it. jkjk
Glad you're back! Also, is the group in the thumbnail from the musical because that doesn't look like Billy Joel Armstrong or Mike Dirnt.
Lol, I'm an idiot. Fixed it now. Thanks!
You should totally analyze Jesus of Suburbia from the American Idiot album! It has a lot of messages in it, especially in relation to the theme/story of the overall album.
Welcome back.
Great song.
I like the video.
Thanks!
@@ThePopSongProfessor You are welcome.
Your videos help me improve my English and apart from that I love to break down songs. Could you do "Somebody told me- the killers"?
Added it to my playlist. Thanks!
This song is even more relevent today than EVER! Also you are soo correct on how it applied to today.
Awsome video! glad too see you back.
Maybe as an idea for a future video you could look into "I want to conquer the world" by Bad Religion.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on that.
Gonna give it a listen!
welcome back !!!
Thanks!
Love the new set up π
Thanks! Got a little work to do but it's coming together!
@@ThePopSongProfessor Awesome can't wait for the next video! Any idea when we might see it? π
Next Monday! :)
Give Me Your Shoulders dropping soon. It'll be amazing to watch your take on that.
This is so cool
I find the song "Dear Maria, Count Me In" very catchy, but I don't understand the lyrics very well. I'd really like it if you talked about it. π
Going to listen!
Havenβt even watched the video yet but Iβm just glad to have you back!
Awww, so kind!
@@ThePopSongProfessor Would you ever consider reviewing lyrics from a smaller band like mine? I believe my lyrics are pretty well thought out and it would be fun to have them dissected.
Not really at this point, but I do sometimes promote small bands!
@@ThePopSongProfessor Cool! Well I would love to have you review some music from my band Flagship Armada if you are every interested. Maybe I can send a couple songs your way in case you ever do something like that.
I wouldnβt say underrated, now maybe they arenβt taken as seriously but when this album came out they were on top of the world with several songs on this album remaining in the top ten, with boulevard of broken dreams being played on mtv2βs top ten for over two years straight.
Where they are underrated/forgotten is the fact that even though they arenβt emo, they absolutely paved the way for the mainstream popularity of emo to even take hold within the following two or three years. This album also got so many kids into guitar like no other album of MY generation which was really cool.
Thank you Big Green Day fan.
He's back!!!!!
Thanks, Ben!
Going off what someone else said, you should check out The Fall by Lovejoy! It has a lot of derivative lyrics and double ended metaphors- metaphors that mean two different things in different contexts
Added it to my personal playlist.
MY MANS RETURNED LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
He's back!
Yay!
The album itself was honestly what saved their career
Song Glycerine from the 90s.
Welcome back, sir!
Hey, thanks!
Love the hair
Thanks! It took a lot of patience!
@@ThePopSongProfessor and I like the new format. I hate that you probably won't be able to make money but I'm glad you use the clips of music in it. Always a fan!
Glad you like it. I think it'll just make the vids better in general, so I don't mind so much.
Sure reminds me of Never Take It by tΓΈp, just with more specifics.
Kind of, yeah!
Could you check out βIf You Could See Ne Nowβ by The Script?
Added it to my playlist!
Check out all of War On Errorism while weβre doing the punk rock stuff
Welcome back
Thanks, Daimon!
POP SONG PROFESSOR IS BACK !!!
Thanks!!!
Yo you should break down Black Summer by red hot chill peppers. I feel like it could really pop off for you.
Gonna give it a listen!
@@ThePopSongProfessor i think it's about cancel culture and censorship but idk
woooo
My amazing editor! You made this video so much fun.
This seems to throw distain at both parties.
Don't know if it's too much but I'd love to hear you talk about/ analyze the entire album "American Idiot". From what I understand the entire album is made to tell this story that begins with the song "American Idiot" and every song is very purposeful with it's message. (ex: "When September Ends" has a very different meaning when you understand it is sung by an artist mourning 9-11 and what the world had become)
Such a good album. Probably wont' talk about the whole album, but I do love it.
Wake Me Up When September Ends is about his dad
Finnaly pls do bones by jay joseph
Added it to my personal playlist. Will give it a listen.
Thx
Welcome Back!
Thanks!
what does "we're not the ones who're meant to follow" mean
I was listening to this jamming the other day
And I was looking like Dave Chapelle in the Tupac skit because it was facts
π
The Red Hot Chili Peppers new single "Black Summer" has some interesting lyrics. I'd like to see you analyze that song
Thanks! Will add it to my personal playlist!
The return of the king
Haha, too kind
Please do Jesus of Suburbia also please
Good one!
I think that you should look into some bring me the horizon songs they are quite interesting I'd love for you to break them down, especially song avalanche
They are pretty good, yeah. Will consider!
Do black skinhead by Kanye west.
HE'S BACK!!!! And with better editing skills too.
You can thank Beth for that!
thank you!
The beautiful thing about this song is that itβs aged like fine wine. Look at the pandemicβ¦
Welcome back! And nice hair.
As for the song, I prefer Weird Al's version, but this is still cool. π
Thanks and thanks! Yeah, the Weird Al version was my first introduction too actually! So good.
According to Billie Joe Armstrong's handwritten lyrics and the official American Idiot liner notes the 1st verse should instead be:
"Don't wanna be an American idiot
Don't want a nation under the new *_mania_* "
Which changes the meaning completely as the singer is now talking about the constant fear of terrorism in America after 9/11, which fits better the context of verse 1 (about hysteria and subliminal mind-fucking).
Due to his accent and intonation it's unclear whether he actually says "media" or is simply stretching the vowel and consonant of "mania" to make a double meaning.
I just want to comment
And I just want to reply.
Youβre looking a lil like David spade here
I'm laughing so much right now.
Tom Macdonald song?
Haha, I don't think folks who like TM would like my thoughts on him especially what I've seen so far. Not a big fan.
@@ThePopSongProfessor I respect that :)
what a haircut π€©
Or lack thereof. :)
I mean my man's spit on still today.
Billy Joel was way more rightβ¦.do you th8nk he would make a 2022 version of American Idiot?
AMAZING! Love it. Employ a company like P-R-O-M-O-S-M!!
Iβm glad Iβm not a Canadian intelligent
Great new set man it looks great π
Thanks! Still has some work to do, but I'm getting there. :)
Youre close. Close. Theres nothing offensive ab it though, its all truth.
Manufactured consent is real
Billie Joe is bisexual? Okay icon
I had no idea.
Green Day has a whole song on the Dookie album about coming out as bisexual. The song is titled Coming Clean
Itβs about George W. Bush
Sort of, haha. Also what is up with your username? lol Do you know someone named Clif who is really boring?
@@ThePopSongProfessor I am boring and a nickname of mine is Clif
You can't be boring if your nickname is Clif
@@ThePopSongProfessor idk man Iβm pretty boring
Letβs not besmirch the name Lynyrd Skynyrd by giving recognition to the trash that the current tribute band that calls themselves Lynyrd Skynyrd has put out since it formed. Other than that, great video about a great song from a great band!
So mainstream π what are talking about?
that thumbnail is annoying
Lynyrd Skynyrd is a band not a person.
Yes, a band named after a person.
@@scottmatznick3140 yeah but this is a band. He talked as if it were a single person who he was referring to.
