The haters like to call their favourite icons “queens/kings” and call the other artists rubbish. In the third verse Taylor’s basically saying “Calm down haters, we all got crowns, we all are kings and queens.”

Often the LGBT community and women are told “you need to calm down”. They’re told they are talking too much, and being too loud. Taylor is switching the narrative to say maybe it’s the people getting angry at others that need to calm down

So the funny thing about the 'Get a brain morans.' sign is that it's an actual sign a southern guy made for a pro-war rally like 15 years ago. The photo's been copied and posted over and over to mock him and people like him for being ignorant and intolerant.
All we know about Ryan's part is that he's painting Stonewall Inn - while mimicking a famous Norman Rockwell painting himself - which had a recent anniversary I believe. Taylor donated money for the upkeep a few years back and recently performed there for her friend Jesse Tyler Ferguson who was hosting the event.

I think it’s good to mention that a lot of the LGBT community don’t like this song. Her allyship in this song is quite performative, and she’s putting a lot of the attention onto herself. She’s also comparing harassment and discrimination of LGBT people to her beef and drama and people tweeting snake emojis at her.

    • @ameliadavis1979
      @ameliadavis1979 8 місяців тому +1

You are ridiculous! Her very good friend of years Toddrick Hall helped produce the video. She defended Hailey K. when an interviewer asked her why she always sings about her girlfriends. They didn't know each other but Taylor has always been asked that about her boyfriends and said how sexist it is. She then mentions how no one says that about guys who write about their love life. She gives examples like Ed Sheeran(one of her best friends) and Bruno Mars. A gay fan asked Taylor to play his fiance's favorite song of hers at their wedding. Taylor surprised the guy and showed up and sang. Jessie Tyler Ferguson asked Taylor to preform at the Stonewall Anniversary and she did. All of those things were done BEFORE this song was made. Stop looking for things to complain about! If the LGBT community had known or researched anything about Taylor the few that are bit**ing wouldn't be. 🙄

I think this song is much more political than what many people are seeing. It’s not a coincidence that the lyric video was released on Trump’s birthday. I think the comment about tweets was aimed directly at him. Then she’s asking him what we’ve all been wondering since before he was elected, but she’s more polite than many of us would be: “Are you ok?”. There’s also the word and the image in the lyric video of a “missile” which made me immediately associate with Trump’s temper tantrums over North Korea early after he took office. I think when she’s singing about girls that are killing it she’s referring to how we’ve just seen this wave of women getting elected, unseating Trump-supporting men. The protester’s sign spelling “moron” as “moran” is probably referring to Senator Moran, who is known for opposing same-sex marriage. The song was written in a way so it could be interpreted much less politically to provide the fun song and music video we all expect. However, I think this is why she put out a video with only lyrics first. No distractions, just words so hopefully some of that message would be caught.
There’s a lot of other great stuff going on in this video too (it’s Taylor!) but I think her genius when it comes to songwriting deserves even more credit than it’s being given.
Edited to add: stumbled across this 2 yrs later and I still think she deserves so much more credit for her song writing. I agree with the most of what you said, and of course the surface meaning of the lyrics advocating LGBTQI rights. Her ability to combine that while calling out other very specific political issues is remarkable. Taylor’s got bars!

A lot of times trolls told Taylor Swift that she was nothing but trailer trash, so I think that's Taylor owning it as only Taylor can do. Ryan is a good friend and a big supporter of the LGBQT community. His daughter (and wife, Blake Lively) is the child's voice in Gorgeous. I think Katy and Taylor were burgers and fries because they go together so well, so why not. I don't care what anyone says, Taylor Swift is a genius.

“Comparing all the girls who are killing it” also relates to beauty pageants where women compete with each other for the crown and only one can win. In the music video they’re all lined up before a judge who then throws the crown into the air. Like, screw this, crowns for everybody! ✨

Those few people are idiots. Toddrick Hall and Taylor have been good friends for years. He helped produce the video. He chose all of the drag queens on the stage. He suggested she die her hair towards the end of the video where they are walking together. Taylor didn't know Hailey K. but came to her defense when an interviewer asked why she writes songs about her girlfriends. That it was probably going to turn people off. Taylor has always spoken out about how the media bashes her for songs about her love life but doesn't say it about guys. She mentions how no one says that about Ed Sheeran(one of her best friends) and Bruno Mars, who also write about their love life. Hailey appreciated Taylor coming to her defense, especially since they didn't know each other and how famous Taylor is. Since then they have preformed at each other's concerts. People need to stop always looking for something to hate on. All the LGBT people in the video wouldn't have agreed to be in it if they didn't think Taylor was sincere. 🙄

I took the “I am a rich man” line to mean and inspire the idea that she doesn’t need a man to make her life easier or to give her everything she could want. She can and has done that through her own means and without someone handing it to her and she has achieved a point of her career where she, comparatively, has just as much influence as rich white men. It’s another reference to equality, between genders, in addition to aspiring to achieve equality for LGBTQ+ society.

What are you even saying in the start of this video, what ever it is, is totally untranslatable. I am pretty sure it's your name, and I don't trust anyone who says their name like it's something they would rather not be said, known or would prefer to hide. People might say that I am reading too much into something unimportant, and to those people I say, ok. However to you I say, your a grown man try to explain something that requires none to people who didn't ask and doing so for undetermined reasons. I doubt the authenticity of what ever degree that allows you to describe your self as a professor.

The lyrics are well done. It’s funny how this is America, land of the free, and we have people who are still NOT free and criticized/hated for demanding their rights.

The 'comparing all the girls who are killing it' also applies to the drag race fandom, who does the same thing to the drag queens (also some people are racist af).

Toddrick Hall, Taylor's good friend for years helped her produce the video. He said he picked the drag queens from his friends.

The only thing I can think of for Ryan Reynolds to be there is because he fought for Deadpool to be the first pansexual superhero or maybe he’s a part of the community too! I also made a cover of this song hours after it came out on Friday so it would be nice for someone to check it out :)

Good interpretation, I can appreciate how you can talk about this from a non bias point of view, although I am curious of your standpoint of such a subject, as christians often see it from different points of views and I’m just curious of how you see it :)
    Good video love

We’re meant to assume shes just an ally. But so far her whole album is gay as fuck - in the good way - and I wouldn’t be shocked to see her come out this month

Ally as she has stated in interviews. The Lover album is her most political. The album is also about her boyfriend Joe.
