This song is supportive of drinking, though. He doesn't want to be a "dead man walking" - he doesn't want to be old and boring. He wants to drink and have fun.
@@VigilanteVegan I mean this in the most respectful and least offensive way possible, but that's stupid as shit. Literally no one in the world but you interpreted the song that way

How do I explain this? THIS song feels like that one Green Day song I've been wanting so badly. The Pre-American Idiot song, that sounds like their old stuff, but new. American Idiot is amazing, and loved everything after that. But I've been missing the old sound, and this is mixed with new sound too. They nailed it. I also hear a little Longshot in this too!
@@ramdombanana4550 Partially, but the anthemic chorus melody and almost entirely palm muted verses remind me more of the Rock Opera era of these guys career.
I hear Dookie, American Idiot, and occasional Nimrod and 1,039 / Smoothed Out Sloppy Hours vibes. I also hear a tiny bit of Revolution Radio vibes? I love all of their albums (albeit Father of All the least, but it was still good), and I love how I can sense the vibes of some of their newer and older albums.
I have so much respect for Billie. He is one of the most vulnerable artists when it comes to the lyrics he writes. That is not easy, and yet he consistently opens up about his struggles. It's comforting.
yeah. the lyrics and the honesty are good and all, but the riff and the vocals specially in the chorus are killer!! best thing they did in a looong time. feels like being surprised by some nimrod songs again
I just found this song a couple of hours ago. So I was walking home from school with my friend, and we just so happened to run into his step mom, and she gave us a ride the rest of the way. This song was playing on the radio, and the second I heard it, I fell in love. This song has sparked an interest for me in Green Day. I'm going to go through all their catalog and see how many hits I can find. If they have songs that are like this or any other songs, comment.
Can't believe...I used to listen to Green day with my Mom and younger brother..both of them are not there anymore...ur songs reminds me of my past...love from India....
This is such a realistic video, what a dilemma to be living like this. Addictions are really hard cause even when you want to stop, you still feel like you haven't had "enough fun" but the reality is that it will never come to be enough, and that "jus one last time" will for sure not be the very last time, and you will only stop if you do it NOW.
What makes this video so good is the fact that all the fun b&w party footage we see is in Billie's mind and it's just those last few shots in color that show how much of a mess he is that is reality. It speaks volumes. Well done.
This video is do far one of the best Green Day productions. So personal, so visceral, so intense. Can barely wait to hear it someday in a Brazilian concert. 💚
This really hits home for me, a man struggling with addiction with a baby girl on the way. I just can't stop. Once I found out what the lyrics meant, I can't listen to it without borderline crying if not weeping. This was what I needed
@@ligmaballs2022 it could be split between several lines, like in Jesus of Suburbia: "The bible of none of the above on a steady diet of soda pop and Ritalin"

Man, same here, that's just what I thought! Green day definitely are immortal ones, who have walked with me for most of my life and are still going today, releasing new albums, making our connection stronger and stronger with each album!
I can honestly say I like this album. Not pretending to like it. Or want it to sound good only because a certain band is my favorite. But to honestly say. It's freaking great
Dude same. I was scared I was gonna hate it when it came out since I haven't really cared for any of their releases since AI, but I actually had fun listening to this album.
My new favorite song 😭 I can relate so much. I just hit 2 years sober yesterday. Thank you so much Green Day. I’ve seen you guys live twice & have a whole sleeve of tattoos in y’all’s honor. Love you so much

As someone whose been trying to straighten the drinking habit out, nail on the head for this one. Beyond excited for the album. And it’s been a while since I’ve had this excitement for a Green Day release
@@Stefan_Gerardsappreciate it, pretty good now. Was never really an issue for me just cutting back big time. Starting to feel the consequences of a long night out time to dial it back. Enjoying being hangover free
Hyunjin of Stray Kids said, They told us that this song is recommended for hot summer days, It's not as light as my favorite basket case, but I'm going to listen to it while drinking delicious carbonated water on a hot day. It's a cool song. Green Day is cool no matter how many years go by.
@yeOldeThorne revolution radio has some great songs and melodic hooks, but, at to least to me, I've never heard Green Day write a song with this much earnesty and emotion. There's no metaphorical lyrics that aren't really about anything, this song feels gritty, real, and like Billie was able to tap into a different sort of vocal performance that feels brutally open. I think this might be the best Green day song of the past 10 years
@@yeOldeThorneRevRad felt pretty toothless imo. Like what is Revolution Radio? The headline? Our loves bullet proof? What does that have to do with anything. Very vague, very buzzwordy. No hate, just my opinion as a long time fan. Love this new track
RevRad has a few songs I like a lot, but honestly I don't think anything on there has quite the impact of this song. In fact I might even say it's their best since the American Idiot album (sorry, but I'm not as big on 21st Century Breakdown as a lot of people seem to be these days).
This song makes me realize how much better some of their songs from the past decade would sound with a better guitar tone. This sounds so full of energy in comparison to the other two singles. I really like it!
That’s actually my biggest issue with all of the trilogy era. There are a handful of songs I would find to be pretty good or at the very least decent, but the tone of the guitars and even drums seem so watered down and lackluster. Like they are just missing that punch of energy that Green Day songs usually have.
@@josejr.garcia2228Yeah, I'm basically thinking of the trilogy cause while it was a 5-6/10 everything afterwards was a straight 2/10 that could not be saved by a good guitar tone.
I feel like the black and white type color scheme paired with the chaotic shots throughout the whole music video is just adding more of meaning onto this song. Definitely one of my favorite videos so far!
So far this new album has been solid. Looking forward to the full release. Feels like a return to form for Green Day, and I’m here for it. The three songs released so far… are already better than the entire track list from their last album.
This is such a nice surprise. I was in love with Green Day as a teen, then life happened, but I occasionally go back for a listen. Great to see them back closer to their old quality. Also, Billie Joe still looks awesome. Good for him x
One of my favorite Green Day songs now. The lyrics are so powerful and the sound captures that feeling of being at the bottom and trying to claw your way back up
Wow! The sound evolves to stay current and relevant and yet it is still so distinctly the classic Green Day we know and love. The lyrics get more and more heartfelt too! This one hits hard. Can’t wait to hear the full album and to see you in Manchester next year. 🙏🏻
My favorite songs the last few years (in no particular order): Green Day Dilemma Offspring We Never Have Sex Anymore Weezer Hero Blink 182 Turpentine So great to have new great music from the bands I loved most in high school.
RevRad sitting in the corner feeling forgotten right about now also...I don't think many fans of the band would consider a comparison to FOAM a good thing lol
Green Day got me through some hard times years ago & it's touching that Hyunjin of Stray Kids sent me back for a reminder (especially since Stray Kids is currently helping me through a hard time). I hadn't heard this song yet - it's great and incredibly open and honest. Thanks for sending me back, Hyunjin!
This song and this video took guts. Not everyone is brave enough to address their struggles with substance abuse head-on. Musically, it's also my favorite track on the album so far. I think it's Grammy material. Great work, Gentlemen!

Was listening to nimrod after running out of new singles and I came across the song uptight. Then, he's talking about being drunk and suicidal. And in Dilemma he's like "wait fuck no, I want to LIVE" it's amazing how much we change over the years. Love you Billie/Green Day
8 years sober but man this video takes me back to some dark days. Literally lived it. Even collapsed into (my own) drum kit on more than one occassion. Kudos to BJ on his sobriety. It is important that we not forget the past, but learn from it. Loved GD since 92 and always will. ❤❤❤
Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has battled alcohol addiction throughout his career. He has been open about his struggles and has spoken about how his dependency has affected his personal life and his music. In 2012 a drunk Armstrong went into meltdown onstage at the iHeartRadio Festival and checked into rehab two days later. In this song, Armstrong sings about the dilemma he constantly faces between wanting to stay sober and the desire to give in to his addiction. He talks about the guilt and shame that he feels, and the fear of falling back into old habits. "'Dilemma' was one of those songs that was kind of easy to write because it was so personal to me," Armstrong explained. "We've seen so many of our peers struggle with addiction and mental illness. This song is all about the pain that comes from those experiences."

Green Day never cease to amaze from Dookie to American Idiot to Saviors. They honestly don’t have bad songs or albums (the short father of all album was sort of a mishap, but still good). Green Day will always be a band that will be around from decade to decade and garner new fans. My first show was in 1995 during the insomniac tour. I love this band.
I always describe Father As All as "when the band thats forced to make a new record by their label choose to sacrifice some genuinely good songs in the name of getting the fuck out of dodge" hahahaha
To be honest, I'm in my 30's growing up everyone I knew loved green day and still does. I never gave them the chance I should have because I was an elitist idiot. I was in to rancid, pennywise, early afi, etc. My brother loved billy joe, posters and all - he passed in 2020, and I ball like a baby every damn time I hear good riddance. So I doubled down on changing the song any time green day came on. Then watching this year's new years eve show with my 10 year old and my wife they played this song and it all came full force. Green Day kicks ass. Diving back into the years of great music I missed out on. Unreal how my stupid ego or whatever caused me to miss the music.
You 100% stole my thunder. It's not that I completely discounted them as I can say my current band plays A few of their songs but I never really fully appreciated all their catalog. just saw them last week and it was one of the best shows I've seen in I don't know how many years.
I actually think that this is one of their best songs they've ever made. Beautiful lyrically and musically. Only green day can make bangers even at their 50s
@@ParadiXe311yeah, time will be the real test. 1039 was awesome, Insomniac is still a great album, so is dookie, so in Nimrod. There is a lot of great tunes before those albums and some good tunes after but for me, those years were the best.
this song and Look Ma are giving me hope that this album’s gonna have some really great stuff on it. Love love love the heavier guitar tone and billie’s shouty delivery on lots of the vocals, feels evocative of his live vocal style which is great to hear since his voice has sounded a little too squeaky-clean on the production end lately
I have loved Green Day for 25 years. Billie ages so beautifully. Their music literally transports me to my youth. Loving the American Idiot sound for these new songs.
Yea then they went hating half of america for new years go new green day or green new deal I'm getting old I get it all mixed up anymore. Green day can suck it or IT
I'm truly captivated by the incredible talent of Billie and the timeless energy of Green Day. Billie's unique voice and innovative approach to music have been a significant inspiration for me, sparking my own journey into the world of music. Similarly, Green Day's iconic sound and stage presence have left an indelible mark on the music industry. Expressing my admiration in a not-too-cheesy manner, witnessing them perform live would undoubtedly be a dream come true. Their ability to connect with the audience and deliver an unforgettable experience is something I've longed to be a part of. Here's to hoping for the opportunity to see these musical legends live and bask in the magic of their performances...

Being in a dark place and having some weird thoughts and Green Day shining a bright light on me through this song is what I needed. 😢❤ Thank you for a second chance.
I can't stop listening to the song, and it keeps getting stuck in my head. One of the best songs they've done in years. Not only is it hella catchy, but it's so meaningful. I recently read the quote where he said he's 16 months sober. I hope that interview was done a while ago and it's longer now, and that he keeps going with it!
This song means everything to me, I am two years sober and F am I struggling. Life is coming at me 7 ways to sunday and im holding onto sobriety by a thread. But I keep listening to this song and I dont want to be a deadman walking. As of today I am seeking help again! I havent relapsed yet but I can feel it coming. I only recently started listening to Green Day, maybe a year ago. But I immediately became a die hard fan, honestly. Their music is so good, and Saviours is the best album they’ve done since 21CBD. Revolution Radio was very good, but this album just hits the spot
Well mate, I´m a fan for more than 20 years and they have so great albums. Of course u have Dookie as a gem, but you got it. Your chose my favourite album for your profile pic :) Nimrod is, for me, their masterpiece (for an album, many genres, so emotional, angry, so complex)
I think the fact that this song is a little more "literal" than usual, and that Billie said it's very personal, makes me think that he wrote it at a time where he really felt like he needed to express what he was feeling. We all know that he has a very deep history with drugs and everything them did to him. At least in my case I feel a kind of connection with him in the song, it seems to me as a big relief and a feeling of guilt. I´m really proud of him, and I think we all here are, because quitting addictions isn´t such an easy thing. I love and admire Billie so much, I´m so happy that he´s currently well. ❤❤
Exactly. For me it’s food. Just like a drug or alcohol addiction, food addictions are extremely hard to overcome, too. And finding a way to stop that can be very traumatizing, too.
I hope he knows how many lives he saved and was touched by his music. I wouldn't be here so tough if I hadn't heard American Idiot back then. I remember hearing it for the first time so clearly and something just clicked. That was the first day of the rest of my life. Green Day gave me purpose and without them I wouldn't be writing today, seriously. No matter what happens in my life, their albums are always there to guide me. Through childhood to adulthood and everything that comes after. I thank my lucky stars. Once again, Thanks Billie Joe. The most beautiful human being to walk this Earth. 😘😘

I hear Whatsername in this song more than anything else tbh.
@@koythomas9715I think that’s the Drop D tuning speaking lol
@@ramdombanana4550 Partially, but the anthemic chorus melody and almost entirely palm muted verses remind me more of the Rock Opera era of these guys career.
You exactly put into words what I’ve been thinking since this song came out
I hear Dookie, American Idiot, and occasional Nimrod and 1,039 / Smoothed Out Sloppy Hours vibes.
I also hear a tiny bit of Revolution Radio vibes?
I love all of their albums (albeit Father of All the least, but it was still good), and I love how I can sense the vibes of some of their newer and older albums.
Green Day is the most powerful drug, it is impossible to stop with it!
One of their most honest songs lyrically which I’ve always loved about them. Really solid song and I love Billies vocals and the riff
I agree with you ❤
I have so much respect for Billie. He is one of the most vulnerable artists when it comes to the lyrics he writes. That is not easy, and yet he consistently opens up about his struggles. It's comforting.
@@gabbym333 I agree with you on that 💘
yeah. the lyrics and the honesty are good and all, but the riff and the vocals specially in the chorus are killer!! best thing they did in a looong time. feels like being surprised by some nimrod songs again

If you love this I think good songs for you would be 1981, Bobby Sox, Jesus of Suburbia, and Saviors!
American Idiot is classic. Reminds me of this record.

You would definitely like songs off of the albums American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown
The Grouch from their album Nimrod has sort of a similar theme.
Why does Green Day have to hit the nail right on the head for what I’m going through with every single release for this album?

This is such a realistic video, what a dilemma to be living like this. Addictions are really hard cause even when you want to stop, you still feel like you haven't had "enough fun" but the reality is that it will never come to be enough, and that "jus one last time" will for sure not be the very last time, and you will only stop if you do it NOW.
What makes this video so good is the fact that all the fun b&w party footage we see is in Billie's mind and it's just those last few shots in color that show how much of a mess he is that is reality. It speaks volumes. Well done.
Excellent comment. Didn't realize this till you pointed it out.

You guys're so fast 😂😂
Some of the best material to come from Green Day in over 10 years I love this album so far!
Revolution Radio wasn't that long ago
We won’t even associate with father of all
@yeOldeThorne revolution radio has some great songs and melodic hooks, but, at to least to me, I've never heard Green Day write a song with this much earnesty and emotion.
So true
The drop D tuning really helps!
That’s actually my biggest issue with all of the trilogy era. There are a handful of songs I would find to be pretty good or at the very least decent, but the tone of the guitars and even drums seem so watered down and lackluster. Like they are just missing that punch of energy that Green Day songs usually have.
You mean the trilogy. At least UNO would’ve blown people away if the guitars were heavier.
@@josejr.garcia2228Yeah, I'm basically thinking of the trilogy cause while it was a 5-6/10 everything afterwards was a straight 2/10 that could not be saved by a good guitar tone.
As an alcoholic who recently relapsed Billie hit the nail on the head with this one.

I think the fact that this song is a little more "literal" than usual, and that Billie said it's very personal, makes me think that he wrote it at a time where he really felt like he needed to express what he was feeling. We all know that he has a very deep history with drugs and everything them did to him.
