I think she was still holding onto this hope in the first scenes of the episode and OP is right, she got the confirmation when he spoke Nicholas' name.

I agree with the others, I think she held out hope he was Nicholas but when Rio confirmed he wasn't, she put together who he must be based on his power (breaking Wanda's spell) and the sigil.

I think Agatha was telling the truth that she cant control her power fully snd its connected to her dead son. Its like an automatic thing when she is touch by anothers magic. Think Rogue, but with magic. So if she wants to, she can instigate someone into hitting her with magic, but on the flip side, she cannot be touch with magic in a positive way, like protection magic. I think her young son may have used a positive form of magic on her and she couldn't stop her power from taking all his magic/life. So when his spirit yells for her to stop, that is actually what happened when he died.

This exactly what i was thinking!!! Her son probably was like Wanda's kids using magic very young, and his hit her. I hope she able get someone to losten. I think she only villian because she pushed to play the only role anyone will ever se ever in. Maybe this even why she wanted Darkhold was to find way to fix her syphoning ability.

There is a promo out there with some stills so its easy to miss but it shows Alice "waking up" from laying on the floor and I haven't seen this from the earlier episodes. Its easy to miss in the mass of stuff Marvel has put out for this show.

Great episode! As soon as Billy started moving his hand the exact same way that Wanda does, I knew immediately that he was coming into his power.
Billy is quite smart as he mind control the other two to grab Agatha rather then cast spell on her. Cos Agatha suck magic
One Easter egg you didn't mention was that when Audrey Plaza was on her broom, she cackled in a near-perfect impression of the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz.

This was the episode to START the real show! I didn't listen to any of the neh sayers cause i knew it was gonna get to this level. Well done, Marvel 😍 Im gonna watch this episode over and over again til episode six.

At the beginning of the ouija scene, was that Agatha trying to tell the rest of the Coven that Rio is Lady Death and she is literally there to make sure the right amount of people die?
I have a feeling we're getting the full cast back in the next episode or so, in Death's dimension. The little subtle nods that Rio is Death are pretty cool: not being afraid when terrible things are happening, the "I was in the neighborhood" line when she got summoned bc Mrs Hart just died. Its really interesting. Rio hating ghosts makes sense too bc they won't go with her. Fun stuff.
Remember when Lilia said, "save Agatha" and "Alice don't" on two separate occasions a few episodes ago. I think she meant "Alice don't save Agatha" because she saw what happened if she did save her!
With every ep, this show just gets better, can't wait to see ep6

Here’s what I understood - Rio was collecting the body. The last few minutes where Teen becomes like his “mother” is a vision from Lilia. It came out of nowhere & Agatha’s character switch especially how she responds to Teen is a complete 180 and doesn’t feel authentic. This was definitely a vision and Lilia will probably prevent Alice’s death so Teen doesn’t go full fledge Wiccan on them.
Also the writers clued us in on this with the first scene where it felt like it was happening but it was a vision from Lilia.
This sounds plausible but writers often hate making things dreams or visions, as in the writing community, it’s a cop out of storytelling - especially in cliff hangers. I believe this all happened and the aftermath will be in the next episode.
I liked the how he raged out at the end and tried to kill members of the coven, right after he was told he was like his mother. Now people who still complain about Multiverse of Madness see that rage is a part of who the Scarlet Witch is. Billy got some of that rage along with his magical powers as his inheritance. The way she was depicted made sense, especially because she was corrupted by the Darkhold.

@@Wutang2099z even though MCU is loosely based on comics it is still based on comics. In comics Wanda's children were reborn in 2 different teens. When they found each other they went to find Wanda.
So, surely, it will not be exactly like conics but you can see the main story beats.

My “tinfoil hat” theory is that this episode was a sort of glimpse into Lilia’s visions. She has foreseen many of the manifestations of Billy’s power and consequences of Agatha’s actions. She sees outside of time, and I think we’ll see how she can manipulate the outcomes. In Episode 3, she had the outburst “save Agatha” which to me says that there is a way to reverse Agatha’s ‘gift’. After all the character development we’ve seen from Agatha, this episode honestly surprised me. As did Jennifer’s willingness to sacrifice Agatha after the support that she’s given the coven thus far. It was a great standalone episode, but it feels out of place from the growth of the coven, in my opinion.
I don’t think everyone is doomed to the pit of despair, and I’m still in denial that Alice is gone :( so that maaaaay be fueling my desire for this not to be true 😅
But perhaps them (Jennifer, Lilia, and Agatha) being absorbed into the earth will get us to the Earth trial with Rio?
I did find the whole 80’s horror genre of the trial to be fitting with the twist ending of the “bad guy” reveal. Very 80’s horror indeed!
I think Nicholas Scratch was a kid, and he accidentally zapped his mom with his powers, and she killed him. It seems that this episode showed Agatha has no control over taking powers from others. I think this ability of hers is an automatic self-defense. This is what led to her mother getting coven to try take her down, but same happened to her. And Agatha trapped by her ability just became the person she was always gonna be seen as cause no one listens when she saus she didn't mean to.
We see them back together in clips, and its Agatha with Billie. I think they'll end up finally listening and realizing truth about Agatha. She is a syphoning witch with no control.
And i think this blood moon trial was Billie's (Teens). Cause this wasn't a phase of moon and more an extra bit like him.
@@sarhahillsburg5142 I think Agatha does or did have some control when she was at her peak of power in WandaVision. If you recall Wanda blasted her and knocked her down without Agatha absorbing it. The second blast Agatha begins absorbing Wanda's magic. But I think in this moment the coven turning on Agatha made her feel so powerless, she took the opportunity to get her magic back so she could defend herself. But it could also be instinct that her power hungry nature caused her to take Alice's power and once that link is established Agatha has no control as she has always just absorbed their magic to save herself.
@@sarhahillsburg5142 there was a moment when Alice was engaged with Agatha where Agatha actively starts taking Alice’s powers. She twists her left hand as if to “grab” at the power and then you see her face change to one of almost hunger and greed. I feel like the initial manifestation of her power was out of her control, but that now she can choose to feed on it. It is likely a compulsion - she is an addict and although she may not have wanted to kill Alice, she wanted power more than anything else and gave into that.
I love the idea that this was Billy’s/Teen’s trial! What a great twist 🤩
To add a bit more about this possibly being the divination trial and an outcome to prevent next episode;

I think the sigil broke the moment Agatha said she knew who he was because the sigil breaks when it is no longer needed, right? I also think it was Billy himself who put the sigil on. Agatha said it looked like an amateur as well as that the one who placed the sigil wouldn't know.
I also believe that the credits hint to how Billy exists. Joe Locke's name appears over a newspaper article about someone barely surviving. I bet a young boy almost died around the time Wanda's hex fell and Billy's soul went into the body, essentially reincarnating

Thinking that Teen is Billy reincarnated in body of Nicholas Scratch. Agatha tried to take Wanda’s boys…. It would be repayment.

I don't think this is the first time that Teen's powers manifested.
I think he lied to Agatha when he said he wanted power at the end of the road.
I think he is looking for something else - maybe his mother's whereabouts? his father's? his twin brother's?
He couldn't get into the road on his own and that is why he had to convince Agatha to form a coven. Essentially, though his aim wasn't to hurt the witches in the coven, he was also using them as means to an end. He would have hoped to reach the end of the road with them, but seeing how the coven still seemed selfish and there were already two casualties, I think he'd rather have the other witches sent home - my theory is the bog sends the witches back to the real world.
I believe he put it on himself and his real goal was either to get his mom back through the witches road or get the information. I had first assumed he'd probably get his powers through the witches road, but since he already has, maybe his mom?

The minute Agatha said "You're so much like your mother" was when I realized, literally everything fell into place! And boy he is like his mother! But seriously where is Tommy? Perhaps that's what his journey on the road is for, to look for answers on the whereabouts of his twin, or his mother (just my theory)

I think everyone has it wrong about Agatha and the Darkhold. I think she started using the Darkhold to figure out how to bring Nicholas back. That’s why she breaks character in WandaVision “you can do that?” That’s why she wants Wanda’s power. So she can resurrect Nicholas. I think that’s going to be her whole arc
Man the last couple minutes of this episode was truly crazy
I hope we see Nicolas scratch in the flashback episode next week
I don’t think Nicholas Scratch was meant to be a sacrifice in Agatha’s quest for the Darkhold, but he was unintended collateral damage. Agatha wasn’t powerful enough to save him and was blamed for his death driving her coven to turn on her for “killing” her own child. Nicholas Scratch is behind this & wants to return to the land of the living by taking Billy’s body & powers, but Agatha has grown attached to Billy who really is an innocent in all this because she knows how Billy came to be. Agatha will have to choose whether to save Billy or her son & she will need all that power again to do so.

Rio said in last weeks episode that she like to play with the bodies afterwards, maybe she sometimes places souls into new bodies like Billy in teens body. I also wonder if Agatha is like Rogue where she can’t control it. I think after her son died she might have made a bargain with death or is somehow touched by death which is why Rio loves her she’s a harbinger of some kind

I wonder if Billy looking for Tommy is his real prize he's looking for at the end of the road? In episode 1, Agatha mentions a car accident with two deployed airbags. Many have speculated that one was for Billy, maybe the other was for Tommy. 🤔🤔
Really enjoyed this episode, confirming Billy half-way through season is refreshing... Agathy showing her evil side, keeping in line w/character is sweet as well. Seeing Billy's outfit once inside house was dead giveaway on his status
In the trailers, there's a clip of Alice getting up off the floor that we haven't seen yet. The same spot where she "died." I also think Agatha's trial was to relive all her traumas. Starting with her mother, to the coven, to Nicholas. So I think her trial is still ongoing and reality is being messed with as it's confirmed this is Billy. He starts every trial and warps their outfits and eras just like his mother did. Agatha's seen this type of magic before, and that's how she knew. He may choose to walk the road himself bc he still wants his mother back. Was just testing these women and found them to be not "worthy." As they all kinda moved on from Alice like she was collateral damage. But also Rio was originally a green witch and is shown to have healing powers as well. So when the orange power flickered out of Agatha's hand, I wonder if it was being returned to the original owner. And that's where Rio really was. Bc Agatha never finished her off fully. Billy interrupted her by saying "Nicholas Scratch." Just some food for thought.

man one of my favorite episode so far
I think Billy wants something from the Road (maybe to bring back his mom) and needed a way to get into the road itself. So he decides to befriend agatha to trick her to bring him there. He puts a sigil on himself so agatha isn't suspicious of him. When agatha finds out who he is, the sigil is no longer needed so it vanishes and Billy has his power and memories back
Agathas mother had a blue crown when they tried killing her. So when Teen gets his crown at the end of the episode I just thought that it was her mother's spirit in Teen.

The Title of the Show is "Agatha All Along" she's orchestrating every thing to Seed herself and Gain Power!

@@kaygardierworks2257 ... Agreed 💯. In an interview, Kathryn Hahn said there will be no season 3 which leads to believe she meets her demise and like you said, helps Billy to reach his destination.
The sigil must have come off of Billy when he got fully angry at Agatha. Remember he’s been “egregiously” obsessed (paraphrasing) with her. Only with the sigil destroyed could Agatha know who he was. That could be what caused him to reflexively want to destroy them all.
I love this show. Every week it leaves me wanting more. I can't wait until next week.
Wiccan reveal to you should see in the crown might be the best beat drop moment set to music in the MCU for me.

I think Nicholas Scratch was a kid, and he accidentally zapped his mom with his powers, and she killed him. It seems that this episode showed Agatha has no control over taking powers from others. I think this ability of hers is an automatic self-defense. This is what led to her mother getting coven to try take her down, but same happened to her. And Agatha trapped by her ability just became the person she was always gonna be seen as cause no one listens when she saus she didn't mean to.
We see them back together in clips, and its Agatha with Billie. I think they'll end up finally listening and realizing truth about Agatha.
And i think this blood moon trial was Billie's (Teens). Cause this wasn't a phase of moon and more an extra bit like him.
My theory is that Billy put the Sigil on himself. In episode 4, Agatha stated that the witch who places a sigil won't remember that they did, I'm thinking Billy did it to himself, to protect himself and his identity. Because we know from trailer clips that he was doing heavy research on Agatha. I think he would have known the majority of Agatha's story, before going to find her. He's shown he's pretty smart, so I think he was playing dumb the entire time; cause he has seemed to know a lot more than he let on in the episodes prior to this one. I don't think he's on the road to gain more power, because he really doesn't need it. I honestly think he's either there to find Wanda or even Tommy.

The Aubrey Plaza wicked witch of the west cackle was the funniest thing to me for some reason. I couldn't stop laughing.
Pentagrams are purely doorways/conjuring constructs. What Billy is doing there (this show is following tradition with extra vfx sugar) is conjuring. He's probably either opening a portal from the road back to the world, or conjuring his mother for a surprise cameo.
Circles are protection/barrier, the construct between to access, etc. Even with Billy it's all with 'intent' and sometimes with enough intent the spell is never needed.
This show put a lot of research in for those who hung through the decades of these films. Loved seeing the nod to The Craft, one of the best 'coven' films to peep.

I was under the impression that none of them *actually* die on the road- they just get sent back to Westview. So sure, you could say there isn't as much risk for Rio, but really the only risk for ANY of them is just not getting their power at the end of the road and getting sent home early. I could be wrong though, I don't think the creators did a very good job of making the rules of the road clear from the beginning. It seems both very serious and super goofy at the same time.
