- In this episode we head back out to Langney Point in Eastbourne my local beach in search of more Thornback Rays.
I fished early morning dark hours into light hours it was a nice quiet peaceful session saw some shooting stars and really had time to relax.
The fishing was busy but did I catch my target?!

They looked dabby lol. Hi jase Whiting are a absolute pain. I had a session late November and managed 4 that were 40cm + .I couldn't believe it. Iff only it was like that all the time. Usually 20 --25cm. All the best mate from grimsby.

They are a nightmare like little sea pirannahs lol evpecialy the small pin ones!!!! I wouldn't mind if they were all big ones!!!!
Instant recognition for Dabs is how the very distinct lateral line is very sharply curved above the pectoral fin.

They are a nightmare!!!
On cutting up bait. I watched Colin Serle (England boat angler) prepare a Mackerel for a competition. I was crewing at the time. He got 52 baits out of one mackerel. The only bits he didn't use was the tail and the Gill covers.
Wow that's awesome would have loved to have seen that myself :)
What Colin said was, he had studied the anatomy of a mackerel, to the point of where the blood vessels were. The head can be cut in two and elasticated making two good baits, thats where the main blood holding area is.

Them flounders are just dabs mate 👍
The dab had the clear c shape lateral line above the pectoral fin
The ones I said were flounder were more of a overall diamond shape with longer tails and the lateral line was spikey close to the head?
I am still learning so any help or advice is much apreciated :)
They way I tell the difference is that when rubbing the skin of a dab from tail to head all the skin is rough. When feeling a flounder from tail to head, only the lateral line is rough. Plaice are smooth all over.
@@TheEastbourneFisherman i fillet fish for a living mate and im sure they where dabs as you wouldnt see the gut and roe bag on a flounder when held up to the light 😉 great vids though and keep up the great work you do 👍👌👏👏

I couldn't tell the difference by looking at them, flatfish aren't a fish I try to catch or have caught a lot of. My dad was a commercial fisherman and thats how he taught me to tell the difference and it works. britishseafishing.co.uk/flatfish-identification-guide/
All 3 were Dabs Jason, easy mistake in first light conditions. Still, another species ticked off the list for the year

never had blueys when i sea fished, but when i sea fished mackerel came in may time and went late october. i can not beleave they now come out in winter
I know in Cornwall I think you can fish for them all year round!
