The biggest thing I learned is that even dead horse tropes can be amazingly vital when used properly. Frieren showcased why overused tropes became overused... It's pretty amazing.

It taught me how no matter how much time passes, story telling will be always in the core of every masterpiece of a story. Quality story telling will always outlives the hype of most up to date animations/art styles or crazy worlds imagined. The fact that now there is an anime which does not rely on trauma, hype or hard to grasp or explain mechanics but on almost perfect story telling can be appreciated by anime fans. Also that characters in animes can be nuanced and not caricatures always screaming and shouting how they feel, or how strong they became, or having 5 mins of internal dialogs or verbal expositions. That "show don't tell" also works even in animes where most of the pillars of a story are done via verbal expositions..

@@bobislav85 yesss f*cking STORYTELLING. No matter how hype, no matter how many colors, no matter how powerful the characters, how insane the fights are... storytelling is what is going to make it a masterpiece. So true. OMG SO TRUE ABOUT THE CARICATURES THING TOO! nailed it.

This is one of the best animes for rewatching. You pick up a lot of missed details and add great depth to the characters. I'd know because this is like my 14th rewatch with reactors, including you. Great series!

It is absolutely amazing for rewatching. I watch the Dub sometimes after the Sub like later in the evening and there is always something I didn't pick up on that I'm like OH SH*T I didn't even realize! Now that I know what happens all the way through, I will rewatch it again as well. HAPPILY 🥹❤ Thank you for hanging out!

In episode 2 when Frieren reveals her flower spell to the party of hero’s there’s a moment where Eiesen and Hietier both express open surprise and delight at her spell. Cut to a brief shot of Himiel who doesn’t look surprised at all, pleased and knowing, yes but not surprised. He clearly remembers that spell.
It was already a beautiful moment made even more poignant after what we learn in episode 27.
    Stellar writing, storyboarding and editing.

Episode 2 is probably in my top three episodes of this season. I absolutely LOVED it and it made me feel so many things. This is one of those stories that feels like the writer started from the end and worked their way back (I say that about attack on titan as well) because there is just so much foreshadowing, such beautiful connections made throughout, gorgeous themes... so many full circle moments... 10/10! 🔥

When Frieren shows little Himmel the spell to create the field of flowers he says "I thought it was beautiful", without even looking at the flowers for one second. "Magic" was beautiful, while his eyes and mind was fixed on Frieren.

A couple of things people may have missed:
    - Aura the Guillotine has been back exactly the number of years The Hero Himmel has been dead
    - Music at the end of the last episode is the first time it carries on and matches the story in the scene
    - Our understanding of magic is based on human understanding of magic ie: Flammel, who brought magic to humans.
    - If you pause in the image where Frieren is conjuring the spell to break the Barrier you can see the silhouette of Serie
    - Frieren learned the spell to turn grapes sour because it was Eisen's favourite
    - Serie asked the 1st Mage old man and he says he could see Frierens mana and it was the same as Serie but later on Serie got disappointed in him because he didn't see her mana fluctuating, meaning Frieren had the same mana as Serie when Serie is suppressing it
-Serie Learned the spell for sour grapes because its Eisen's Favourite treat.
Man , every time I watch this anime I see something new That I haven't seen before, it's awesome!

Serie epitomizes "tsundere". She represents what Frieren would be like if she never joined Himmel and the gang.
Serie also is even better at suppressing her tremendous amount of mana, showing off a huge amount to look fearsome while still hiding her true strength.

    • @logansdomain
      @logansdomain  15 днів тому +2

This is such a beautiful way of putting it. I love this. SO TRUE.
The mana suppression was such a flex! I was thinking back to when Frieren let her mana out when she was fighting Aura the Guillotine and I was like... damn... Serie's must be HUGEEEE! I hope to learn more about her or at least see more of her in Season 2. I really grew to LOVE her character a lot. This was such a beautiful anime and I thank you for always providing your insights. It has been a pleasure to read your thoughts!!!!

the interviews were amazing, also learning that Serie is suppressing her mana even tho she doesn't find it useful, is a highlight. Just learnt how to do it as a flex cause when you're 10 thousand years old might as well 🤣
Also we should appreciate Land, my boy went in to meet the most powerful mage in history and the first thing he does is trying to troll her, Serie kind liked it tho :D meanwhile Ubel just getting the psycho pass (deservingly so).

I think the 27th episode is the best episode in Season 1 in the history of Frieren.
Also, there is an English version of the opening theme for YOASOBI.
You should definitely give it a listen.

I have so much to say about these 2 episodes. First off I'll say it's a shame that this season is over already, but I can't wait until the second one comes out!
As for characters, there's a few I really want to talk about.
    Richter:
Richter is such an interesting character, and I think that Denken is right - Richter only failed to pass the first class exam because of bad luck. I personally think that if he had managed to make it to the 3rd exam with Serie, that he would have passed, he's definitely more powerful than the other mages who failed the 3rd exam (except maybe ehre, but he is way more experienced and composed than her), and his outlook on life seems like something Serie would appreciate. I imagine he will be passing the next First Class Mage Exam in 3 years time, unless he gets another similarly bad stroke of luck.
    Kanne & Lawine:
Kanne failed the exam because she couldn't imagine herself as a first class mage. I think this is because she cannot imagine herself passing without Lawine, and I imagine that Lawine probably feels the same way, even if she won't verbalise it like Kanne would. As such, I think that in the next first class mage exam that either both of them will pass or neither of them will.
    Methode:
Methode is really interesting because of how little we actually know about her. One thing that I think most people don't pick up on is that Serie seemed to be able to read the minds of the interviewees (she probably has some sort of mindreading spell) but despite this she had to *ask* Methode what she was thinking when she first saw her, she didn't have to do this for anyone else, suggesting Methode has very strong mental defences.
    Lernen:
I have so much to say about Lernen. He is the perfect way to show just how far Fern has come, both of them are prodigies who study magic under an elf, with a powerful yet simple fighting style. In fact, almost every time we see Lernen do something, it is (narratively) specifically to set up a comparison between him and Fern. Firstly, we see him recognise Frieren's holy symbol necklace and then realising she's suppressing her mana- showing his intelligence and magical knowledge, setting up for Fern to recognise Serie's mana suppression, which shows her potential given that she is better in some regards than the first and most powerful first class mage, with so much more room to grow. Additionally, there are some amazing parallels between Fern and Lernen when Lernen challenges Frieren to a duel, both use Zoltraak to attack her (though Lernen seems to have a uniquely modified version of the original zoltraak given its ball shape and the fact it draws in light from around him).
Everything Lernen does seems to show just how powerful Fern will be when she is an old mage. When he does die, I imagine Fern will be the strongest human mage.
Also, in case you missed it, in the end scenes, we see Ehre introducing Wirbel and Scharf to Lernen, which is a call back to episode 21, where she promises to introduce them to her grandfather who is a first class mage. As such, Lernen is definitely Ehre's grandfather, which would explain how she's so powerful. This also adds new meaning to what she meant when she fought Fern and thought to herself that 'she fights like my grandfather'.
Looking forward to seeing what other anime you'll be reacting to in place of Frieren now that the show is over. If you are taking suggestions, I'd suggest either Dungeon Meshi/Delicious in Dungeon for its similar fantasy setting but slightly more comedic tone, or the NieR Automata anime if you're looking for some heartwrenching romance (as well as some deeply emotional platonic relationships as well) and a sci-fi or science-fantasy setting. Sorry if you're not taking suggestions and im being rude by making any.
Thanks again for making such good reaction videos to this show!

If each test is supposed to trim out around 2/3 (which is consistent with what we've seen, -2/3 from Genau was fine but -1/3 from Sense was not and -1/2 from Serie was unusually high too), the second test should have left 6 and the third test 2 (in average), That's also consistent with their numbers, 50 years would have been 17 tests if the first one was 2 years after she appeared, that would make only 34 first class mages *but* we have to remember Frieren's c omments about how mages were much more common the closer you go back to the demon king era, so there must have been more and more test takers the longer you go back in the past which is about consistent with 52 first class mages still alive in modern time. So yeah this year, they're clearly are a better group than the average test year.

Definitely makes sense! Love the breakdown. Amazing finale. Yesssss, there was definitely a lot of talent in this year's group 🤩
