Yup. Most people (including post-Smiths Marr himself) just play in E standard and capo up 2 frets to play Smiths songs. But yes, while he was in The Smiths Johnny Marr played in F# standard.
@@blakemcnamara9105 no it isn't, you can tell by the frets he's playing it on the neck. if he were in standard, he'd have to have had a capo on the second fret and be playing each chord shape 2 frets above what he's playing here. hence why most covers and Johnny himserlf post-smiths use a capo on the second fret to play these songs

Yes you've already said the comment on another video. Deja vu! Well in England there are many men who look similar to Morrissey he has Irish roots like many of us. But very very few with his mind.

This was actually a free concert being recorded for thecOld Grey Whistle Test show on BBC 2 . The Assembly Rooms Derby was a 2000 capacity and there were maybe 300/400 in the audience maybe less and 90% of them had travelled from Manchester . Assembly Rooms were given tickets to distribute for free and lazily gave them outvat their Under 18s disco night the previous Friday - completelyvwrong audience. I actually had both Johnny Marr and Andy Rourke live on my BBC Radio Derby show that evening just before this. The Smiths second single - This Charming Man had just been released . Early days indeed .

I read many years ago that Marr would tune his guitar up to F# to better match Morrissey's voice. Can definitely hear that at work in this rendition.

Great version. Johnny’s arpeggios are so terrific. Moz was cool back then.

Dereck Rafael robert smith tiene otro estilo de cabello (cabello alborotado) pero estoy de acuerdo contigo
Robert Smith is with The Cure. Morrissey is with The Smiths.
Marr is my favourite guitarist of the last 36 years and Morrissey is a genius. The Smiths probably the best band of my generation.
