Listening to this makes me wish I was born 10 years earlier, The Smiths encapsulate so many emotions that everyone can relate to. Best band of all time.
Sorry everyone, but from one day to another, I utterly must jump into the inevitable conclusion: THEY ARE THE BEST BAND EVER!!!!!! SO SAD THAT I wasn't old enough to enjoy their music when ther were so iconic!!!! but they will always be iconic for me!!!!!!
I agree completely, jhm2277. This is my favorite Smiths song as well. Followed closely by the version of Back to the Old House that appears on Hatful of Hollow.
My friends always argue that the Smiths WOULD be good if it wasn't for Morrisseys voice. I wish SOME people still appreciated the most terrific band to ever grace my (and everyone elses) ears.
under the iron bridge we kissed, and although i ended up with sore lips it just wasn't like the old days anymore, no it wasn't like those old days...am i still ill.
@Adriansh3r0 Morriessey genius to be able to do that, with so little words. His lyrics are extremely sparse, but he crams so much meaning between the lines, it's always more difficult to something well, simply, then to do it in a complex manner. I also like "Hand in glove, the sun shines out of our behind, no it's not like any other love, this one is different because it's ours!". You knoe he's not being 100% serious here. It's laced beautiful with irony and self-mockerey.
@Adriansh3r0 I used to brush him off as just a self-pitying emo. But once I started to listen more, I realised all those times I thought he was melodramatic, those lyrics were actually laced with a subtle sense of self mockery, irony and a biting wit. He shares the laconic humour of Wilde in that respect. Also Johnny's upbeat, energetic guitar contrasts with Morrisey's emotional vocals to create a sort of sarcasm to the music.
@alexkx3 Exactly, few people seem to believe that Morrissey's lyrics contain quite a grade of complexity. They seem melodramatic at first but if you look closer, they are very interesting and even shocking sometimes. F.i. 'That joke isn't funny anymore' look good: makes that person pull over, gives him a lecture and... It ends with someone complaining 'Now it's happening in mine!!!' and it isn't the protagonist who's complaining. What happened?
@Adriansh3r0 Also I always saw Paint a Vulgar Picture as the fan murdering their idol, so the record companies can't taint him anymore, so he will always remain great.
Heideggar is soo booring like all metaphysics which is completely useless and unprovable. God, why does MOZ always have to be turned up so loud?
@Adriansh3r0 How could anybody ever take a song called "Vicar in a Tutu" seriously?
