Hi, sorry about the delay in replying. It was a great night. I was only fifteen or sixteen at the time. I went with a group of schoolfriends on the bus to Derby Assembly Rooms*, a ride of about fourty minutes. We were early so we went down by the river to smoke some very ineptly rolled spliffs before going in. I think we were way too young to get served beer. I knew a handful of the songs, but many were new to me. There were loads of gladioli thrown from the balcony. Magical.
    *Still open.

Barry Leathard Lucky! I was born in 1998, so I’ve never had the pleasure. So envious of people such as your self.

Mike Joyce was a brilliant drummer especially for the no thrills rhythm section in the smiths it wouldnt be the same but i totally agree the smiths legacy is so strong their would be no need for a reformation

I started listening to the Smiths songs in the 2022 series. I learned about them through the singer Viktor Tsoi, who is a member of the Kino group. I love Viktor Tsoi very much and I am a fan of Kino. therefore, when I began to be interested in what Viktor Tsoi listened to in his youth, it was written "The Smiths" there. my first song I heard was "There is a light that never goes out". After this song, I started listening to them. Now I'm a big fan of them. I am grateful first of all to Viktor Tsoi, and then to the Smiths for their music. I am 14 years old, I do not know English, writing from Kazakhstan. Tsoi is on my avatar. i love the smiths. I love this voice, this guitar playing, this bass and these beats. sleep well Andy.
last time i wrote a comment like that and i was judged for listening to them. As we say, tastes differ.
