  • Did the first service on my new Yamaha FZ-07 at the 600 mile mark, but didn't have the know-how or tools for the throttle body synchronization. No way I'm coughing up the cash for a dealer to do it. Fortunately for me, all that information and more can be found at fz07.org. A couple threads in the forums told me enough to get it done:
    fz07.org/thread...
    fz07.org/thread...
    Ever heard of a "manometer"? Me neither till I read those threads!
    This sync is required at every service interval, so it's worth finding a quick easy method to get it done. You can find the tubing at most hardware stores, if not, McMaster-Carr. The screwdriver is Milwaukee model 48-32-2100, available for $20 at Home Depot or Ebay.
    BTW, my bike was running fine before the adjustment, as it is after. Just felt this was something I should know how to do.

    Cool, I skipped the 600 mile synch and frankly was dreading it after watching others have to take so much off the bike. I'm around 1400 miles now and think I will give it a go after seeing how simple this method is.

    Is it possible for the bike to suck that fluid up into the TB? I don't mind trying it, but it makes me nervous lol.

    • @0rnery
      @0rnery  7 років тому

      It certainly could, but I wouldn't sweat it either way. Trans fluid is basically just an oil.

    Apparently, the vacuum line of the left TB that you remove to expose the TB nipple needs to be tee'd into the left manometer line. Otherwise, it will make for an inaccurate reading and can set off some engine codes. Per my Yamaha tech...

    • @0rnery
      @0rnery  7 років тому

      It does need a tee on the left side, that's true.

      Just taking the tube off would cause the fuel to shut off, so yes it needs a t

    Would you be willing to make a detailed video showing exactly what hoses you remove and where you attach your manometer?

      @0rnery  5 років тому

      I would LOVE to except for one small detail. I sold my bike about 18 months ago!

      @@0rnery oh dang! Well that sucks for me haha. Hopefully you will be willing to answer my questions then. I want to do it this weekend for the first time and don't want to mess up my bike. There is a hose connected to the left throttle body, I am to remove that hose and let it hang correct? And connect the left manometer tube (1/8 ID) to where that hose came off. And on the right I pull the black little cap off that brass fitting and do the same to that side correct? And adjust only on the right side.

      Hi Rick. If this was something that only needed to be done every few years, I'd probably save the $20 for the screwdriver, and pull the covers off. But, if it's supposed to be checked at every service interval, might as well own that tool.
      Look closely at your access to the screw. Don't imagine a "flexible" screwdriver can do the job. There may be other methods to get at it (like a jeweler's screwdriver), but a "flexible screwdriver" can't bend tight enough, or be controlled with your free hand.

      0rnery I actually did it last night. Took going to about 4 different stores before I found one of the 90 degree tools, but I found one. Thought it was kind of funny as I went to Northern, Harbor Freight, and Sears, and I ended up finding it at Lowes. Thought for sure Northern or Harbor Freight would carry them since they are a little more "specialty" oriented. Probably online order only. It was just a little fatter than what you had, but I managed to get it in there. Had to use a longer bit also. I've always left the engine work on bikes to the pro's in the past and just done stuff like bearings and brakes and oil change myself. It's getting a little to expensive to do that now though, so I'm trying to learn.

    Impressive! I knew I wasn't going to be able to perform the first service so I was willing to throw the dealer some money. But eventually, I'd love to be doing all the service by myself. I guess the first oil change will be the first easy test... It'll be harder for me since I don't have such a cute helper (murphy!)

      Murphy? Damn, I thought you meant me! :-D
      I have no doubt you can do anything you set your mind to. And, you'll have plenty of help from the FZ-07 forum members. Now, an oil would make a good vlog. But, it's going to be a few thousand miles till that comes up.
      Keep up the good work with that lane splitting. Looks like you've got that down pretty well!

    Hi there I just recently purchased a fz07 and have been looking into the throttle sync I've watched all your videos on how to do it but was wondering if you have a video or instructions on how/dimensions of your manometer is built?

    Very informative video. What tubing size did you use? Thanks!

    • @0rnery
      @0rnery  8 років тому

      1/8" ID Tubing exactly matches the fittings on the bike. It has 1/4" OD, which matches the ID of the larger 3/8" tubing. The larger tubing holds more fluid, which flows nicely, and is easier to see.

    Hello. Could you please make a video show how to clean the throttle body valves? Thanks for your sharing. :)

      +JACK REACHER Sorry Jack. Wouldn't know where to start with that task at the moment. Don't have a service manual yet, and only 2,000 miles on the bike, so no need to tear into it.

      +0rnery thanks for reply my purpose. When your mileage comes to 10000km or reach 6 month the task is recommended. My owner service manual says.

      As far as I'm concerned, it was close enough. When you see how fussy the adjustment is, and hard hard it is to get "perfect", it probably isn't worth worrying about. But, with such an easy, quick gauge, might as well give it a look, to put your mind at ease.

      Jerry Gutierrez
      Good Morning Jerry. I am more than happy to tell you about that bag. It's one more tip, or trick I found at FZ07.org.
      fz07.org/thread/2852/
      I started a thread, asking for a messenger bag suggestion, and a few folks (@1427, @1171, and @368) suggested the Kriega US-20 motorcycle bag. I thought it would be ridiculous to pay that much for a bag, but after giving it some thought, I ended up buying one from Revzila:
      www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/kriega-us-20-drypack
      Best move I ever made! I thank myself daily for buying it, because I literally use it daily, and it works perfectly! Never use it as the messenger bag I first intended. I bag my lunch and it keeps my frozen Nalgene 1-quart water bottle full of icy water till I get home 11 hours later. Not to mention it's quick and easy to fill with items, load on and off the bike, carry and store under my desk. The price I paid was worth it. I LOVE IT!
