- “Cubone-The Lonely Pokémon”
We’ve all seen categories for Pokémon before, but which ones out there shares categories with others with which they have nothing else in common? It might surprise you to find out…
I always thought that Pokemon categories were strange because other Pokemon would have the exact same category.
Honestly I find it a little more strange that so many Pokemon create their own new categories all the time. It seems like it should be a way to simplify the hundreds of individual monsters, not just make it another thing to try and remember.
I always saw it as something similar to a "species name", until I realized some shared the same name. It confused me a lot when I first heard it haha
@@emperorcubone dustox gang
3:40 I think Emperor Cubone is the only Poketuber to ever give Hydreigon's name justice.
Yeah man, gotta rep it's proper origins! It's actually a really cool name when you figure it out.
I've heard Lockstin/Gnoggin say it similarly
bro I didn’t know it’s pronounced that way! It honestly sounds royal!
Tho I can’t rlly roll my tongue like that, so I can’t get it perfectly well- But at least now I’m not pronouncing it Hy-Drey-Gon
For a German Native its quite easy: Deino- Zwei-lous HyDreiGon
@@masha26th same
21:06 “weird in the old timey alchemical way” -Gnoggin will remember that-
Video suggestion: what moves can be learned by the fewest or most Pokémon (excluding signature moves)?
off the top of my head, my guess for fewest pokemon would be tail glow
Transform, easy
ghost Smeargle (only because of its gimmick), Mew and Ditto only, if I recall correctly.
Toxic for most, and any moves that used to be signare moves.
Toxic for most, and any moves that used to be signare moves.
3:38 I never expected anything from the Ben 10 Fan Fiction Wiki to appear in a Emperor Cubone.
"Bivalve" always makes me think of Water Hazard...
Well, it makes sense, because his DNA donor is Bivalvan. Which you used a fanon portrayal of for his picture, not actually Water Hazard.
That made _me_ smile!
16:31 the fact that they made “fire mouse” two words and “aquamouse” one word bothers me.
Is that OCD !?
@@redumbreonandgreenchicorit9176 it's less nitpicky than OCD.
@@milk_choc7889 more*
@@Skylerrelyks93 me 10 months ago thought they knew about OCD, when they didn't. Sorry for the inaccuracy.
I'm more bothered by the fact they gave the "Fire Mouse" category to an obviously porcupine/hedgehog based Pokémon! Translation error?
Togapie’s an egg right, so why isn’t it in that category? Lol
Because it's obviously far more important that it's a "Spike Ball."
@@emperorcubone Just ask Cinderace.
@@emperorcubone Actually, Togepi was known as the egg Pokemon in the indigo league episode where Misty's Togepi hatched. Ash scanned it with his Pokedex and Dexter called it an egg Pokemon.
@@emperorcubone you've been snomd
I dont think Chansey's category is SOLELY for the fact that it has an egg in its pouch. I think its because its also egg shaped itself.
Game Freak: Blastoise. The Shellfish Pokémon.
Every crab Pokémon: *Are we jokes to you*?
I love when I see random Ben Ten stuff in places I didn't expect 😂
I will vever get over bipedal purrloin, it's so cursed.
Furry
Since you were going in alphabetical order I was afraid you clickbaited us when you skipped “Fire Mouse” but then when you got to “Mouse” and explained the ones with “Mouse” as the root I understood why you put Cyndaquil in the thumbnail
I have suddenly realized how important Cyndaquil is to so many people, just from the reactions to the thumbnail. I knew it was popular, but this is something else...
I like cyndaquil myself so i don't mind. lava
Same fellow Cyndaquil
Wait poochyena was a bite pokemon? And Jaw lock(Drednaw's signature move) is dark type
POOCHYENA AND MIGHTYENA CONFIRMED FOR DLC
I feel uncomfortable thinking about how Kakuna is the pupa pokemon but Spewpa and Pupitar are not.
Categories always confused me because they describe Pokémon in terms of regular animals like cat and mouse. Does this mean normal animals exist in Pokémon?
It's great question. By all accounts it doesn't seem like they're supposed to, but they are referenced sometimes so it's anyone's guess...
Emperor Cubone maybe leon’s tutor, mustard, has a pet dog or the likes, hopefully!
This is soooo niche but EXACTLY why I subscribe to you! 👏👏👏
Omg that ice cube penguine...I legit thought he added a fakemon by mistake xD
Brutal Pokémon are awesome
Ben 10 in a cubone video
Cubone is a pokemon
Pokemon is a Nintendo game
Ben 10 for smash
I'd be all for it. I even thought up some moves for it years ago, with different ones depending on which aliens were included...
"Banana neck beard"
Emperor Cubone 2020
23:19 How he said Snom got me so triggered, he said it like Sgnome.
With the Exeggcute Egg/Seed controversy, technically, both are correct. Since seeds are technically plant eggs
I'd like to note that some of the Pokemon you brought up changed categories. Natu was originally the Littlebird Pokemon until Gen 3, and Rattata and Raticate were known as the Rat Pokemon in gens 1 and 2.
Thank you so much for all videos you made. You are one of my absolutely best youtubers ever. :)
Jsi borec.
I always wondered about this. Noticing a few over the years. But never thought to do a video of it. Great vid. New-ish subscriber. Aspiring Pokétuber.
Every new unique type combination in every Region and how useful were them
The “eon” category should include all the eeveelutions
*Change my mind*
Maybe water eon fire eon electric eon ect
Your commentary is hilarious!! I love it!!!

Chiaki Nanami approves this comment The best Danganronpa character. 😭
I literally see you EVERYWHERE
(not complaining though chiaki best girl)
As Takeshi Kitano says at the end of his eponymous 1986 Famicom game: Amazing!
Is that the best boy in the thumbnail?
Gotta click
19:35 Dewgong doesmt even look like a sea lion, it more so looks like a seal given its lack of outer ears, fin like flippers (as opposed to muscular thick), and being better suited for colder habitats.
3:35 water hazard is a bivalvan/bivalvian but he has like 10 valves. Fun stuff.
in fire red and leaf green blastoise was called the turtle pokemon which should have been what it was from the beginning
I actually like the way you pronounced snom in going to say it like that now lol
Fun video thanks!
I would love a video recategorizing some of the mislabeled Pokémon. The biggest one that comes to mind is Blastoise being the “Shellfish” Pokémon.
Or Cyndaquil being the "Fire Mouse" Pokémon when everything else about it - including its description in the Pokédex - clearly points towards it being based on a porcupine or hedgehog. That would finally put the silly Zodiac myth to rest!
Same story with Sandshrew: its not a mouse, it's obviously a shrew!
@@LRM12o8
Cyndaquil looks more like an echidna to me, especially considering the shape of its snout. It's definitely no mouse, though, and neither is sandshrew (I guess "Pangolin Pokémon" would've been a bit obscure, but it could have at least been given a non-animal-name, like "Sand Pokémon" or something).
Kabuto and Kabutops actually do make sense to be in the Shellfish category, as they are based on a horseshoe crab and a trilobite which are both shellfish
There is nothing in universe saying regular Animals don't exist, it specifically mentions Asian Elephants in one of Raichu's Pokedex entries, and there's just a regular dog in the Gen 1 Anime
Gen 1 stuff is an outlier since they didn't have a handle on what they were doing. There's also regular fish and just a plain mongoose in the anime. But look at everything recently; the fact that there are no other creatures in the world besides Pokemon is what says there are no animals. Since at least Gen 3 they have been very deliberate about Pokemon being exclusive...
@@emperorcubone I'm pretty sure the Indian Elephant was Fire Red, and nothing contradicts the existence except how would regular animals evolve, when Pokemon exist
I think simisear and pansear fit. Went from just a high tempature to embers (actually on fire)
17:24
Penguins are bird
Loved the video
And subbed the channel
Great hard work dude
Tbh I think with a lot of these they just forgot that the category already existed. Kinda weird that they have categories to begin with when the categories don't do anything
All pokemon come from eggs? Then Lord Arceus is yet again proven, A GOD
Appreciate the correct pronunciation of Hydreigon.
Emp: the egg group
Me: ah of course toge-
Emp: eggexecute and chancey

I think it's cool that pokemon share categories. Then they can share their awesomeness with other pokemon!
22:15 Therapist : Calm down, two-way jokes with people and pokemons with vibration abilities cannot exist.
Emperor Cubone :
Interesting vid. But…The up coming newest reincarnation of Team Rocket > Mystic+Valor+Instinct together!

Penguins are my favorite animals too
i love the way he said hy *drei* gon
Eiscue is so dumb I love it
Robyninity I love eiscue for the sole fact that it’s a penguin and I love penguins
I've always liked Groudon and Torterra sharing the "Continent Pokémon" category, as I'm a big fan of both of them. ^^
Put on captions at 2:46 and read the names of drifloon and igglybuff..
UGLY BUFF
17:02 the team that needs the most help is the weakest
okay here's a nerdy super niche fun fact: the art of caterpie at 23:28 is specifically art of kitty the caterpie from the pokemon adventures manga!!!!!!
4:34 this one confuses me because you find Druddigon in Dragonsprial tower in Unova, which is outside, inside, but not a cave.
Nice idea for this video
but honestly I think these categories are really unnecessary xD
I mean, yeah. It's basically just more flavor text for the Dex...
@@emperorcubone yeah :D

Autobot Starscream NUBL
@@ronswanson7371 Sounds good.👌
I think I’d be categorized as a fruit pokemon as well
Unova didn't plagiarize they improved.
Kind of like Japan didn't Plagiarize China they improved upon their creations.
21:00 Hey I'm seeing a glitched out part here, not sure if it's my computer.
Fun fact: 'cocoon' isn't exactly the same as 'chrysalis' and 'pupa'. 'Pupa' is the umbrella term, which is the middle stage of any insect that has 3 distinct life stages (so beetles and bees have pupae, hence beedrill, vikavolt and orbeetle all having pupa-like unevolved forms). 'Chrysalis' is a subset of pupa usually reserved for butterfly species. 'Cocoon', meanwhile, is more often the pupae of moths, and specifically refers to the silken outer coating spun by some larvae before they pupate. No, chrysalises aren't spun around a caterpillar, a chrysalis actually comes out of the caterpillar, same as a butterfly comes out of a chrysalis. Metapod is actually the only one of the four based on a chrysalis, while silcoon and cascoon, with their distinctive silky exteriors, are clearly genuine cocoons. Kakuna, meanwhile, more matches beedrill than weedle, resembling a bee or wasp pupa rather than the kind of pupa a caterpillar becomes, which is probably why it gets the distinctive category in Japanese (even if its name still comes from 'cocoon', for some reason).
16:55 Dude, you are asking for a fight in the comments. While I am not Team Valor (or Team Mystic, btw) I know how passionate they can be.
Woobat? Wubat?
Like Wuhan bat?
I'd stay away from it.
omg 😭💀
Grodon and torterra aren't the closest pokèmon to share their category. Actually there are raichu and sandshrew
The thing about the categories in gen 1 is that the guy doing the translation was not given a lot of leeway about the category for some reason. So you got direct translations we're Blastoise is called the shellfish Pokemon because that was one translation of the word. It happened again with a Slowbro being the hermit crab Pokemon even though it's not a crab. And that's because Japanese word for Innkeeper is the same as the word for hermit crab
This is why context is _very_ important in Japanese.
The fact that sealeo isn't the 'sea lion' Pokémon stumps me
It's far more important that it is a "Ball Roll" Pokemon...
A man of class #teammystic
they obviously still have butterflies, who's to say the species name isn't like the general term and the actual name isn't like the subspecies classification, similar to dogs and Labradors.
Exactly, see also all of the dog Pokemon.
Why is Wooper the Water Fish Pokémon? It doesn’t make sense.
Especially since it could be the "Mud Fish" like Mudkip...
Wooper is based on an Axolotl which is an amphibian.
Translation error?
I think many Pokemon have multiple names and maybe some have names that match real world animals. That’s why butterfree is the butterfly Pokemon.
Im surprised jynx isn't a "dancing" pokemon i remember a dex entry saying it can entice people to sway their hips if they watch jynx do the same.
Idk y ludicolo isn't in dancing category.
I haven't played generation 9 yet, however I wonder if quaxley is also a waterbird pokemon.
Imagine a Pokémon game where Gym Leaders and Ace Trainers follow this concept, Legendaries as exceptions obviously, unless that’s for Post Game and rematches.
Thoughts?
Or even just one trainer in the whole region that does it, just to call attention to this overlooked aspect of the series. That would be really cool!
Cascoon should be the Cocoon Pokémon sense it evolves into a moth Pokémon Dustox.
Ah yes zubat my favorite psychic type pokemon
13:25 Me: You know Tropius
Little sister: Huh?
Me: Banana dinosaur!
Little sister: Oh!
This too
Me: A Kricketune!
Little sister: What's that?
Me: DELELELELE WHOOP

Fun Fact about Dewgong: It is based on the actual animal named Dugong, which are related to real life seals. However, there were only two species of dugongs that ever existed, one of which is extinct
but dewgong looks more like a beluga whale than an actual dugong
Greninja and ninjasks are among my favorites. I like ninjas.
Also #TeamMystic
I was about to comment saying "You forgot Hisuian Growlithe", but, when I saw the date, I realized I was about to make an absol-ute fool of myself. Oops.
Thank you! I can't tell you how many people comment I forgot Rookidee when talking about pure Flying on a 4 1/2 year old video...
@@emperorcubone Oof. You're Welcome. Sorry people still comment things like that on old videos without looking at the date.
Some categories don't make sense.
I'd say most of them could fit a little better...
@@emperorcubone What do you think about Gardevoir?
Gardevoir's is alright; it could maybe hone in more on its protective nature though...
They should have classified the gen 8 fossils as the Chimera Pokemon
Hey Emperor, here's a downright LAZY category; Frosmoth, the FROST MOTH Pokémon. They just took the 2 pieces of its name to make the category. If that's not lazy naming, I don't know what is
Well, I think that might have more to do with the lack of creativity in the name of the Pokemon itself. The categories should be the easy names, but most of the time you can do better than that for Pokemon, (See; lazy Grimm-Snarl).
Fun Fact: The reason Horsea and Seadra are the "Dragon" Pokemon despite being pure Water-type is because they are based on seahorses and a Japanese word for seahorse is "Tatsu no Ko" which means "Dragon's Child". It's a reference to how seahorses are baby dragons in Japanese folklore.
You pronounced "inferior" wrong when talking about team mystic, what you said (superior) actually describes team valor. Please don't make this mistake again.
I don't think there should be so many. Like maybe a few hundred of them
is there any grass+psychic type pokemon? That symbolize weed and psychedelic shrooms.
Team instinct is more superior than the other two teams in pokemon go
diglet is more of a hot dog than a mole
why is'nt vivilion in the butterfly category?
Because it is far more important that you know it has Scales.
SNOM IS PRONOUNCED SNAWM, DON’T DO THE BEST POKÉMON DIRTY LIKE THAT
Since a long time ago, this species categorization has been bothering me so much, because it doesn't add anything to the Pokemon or to the game. It's just an unnecessary bit of information.
I swear these were never called "Pokemon Categories" they were always called "Pokemon Species"
Agreed, but then they started using species to refer to the different lines of evolution. Back in the day I had a book that also called it "type" and the eventual types were called "elements," so apparently there is just no consistency...
i think better category for galar fossils would be mismatch pokemon
