    When they say Dre is the greatest producer ever, this is partly what they’re talking about. The minutia, the perfectionism. Every sonic detail. It’s more than just programming drums or playing a piano lick. He’s a composer and a conductor. He’s responsible for the entire mosaic.

    • @edg456
      @edg456 4 місяці тому

      You're right. The funny thing is, the OGs had a different definition of freestyle than the later generations. Big Daddy Kane said a freestyle was actually something you rehearsed beforehand and then you spit when you felt it was the right situation. It devolved to just being "I'm gonna just say whatever comes to mind." The true freestyle has become a lost art.

    • @problactive285
      @problactive285 4 місяці тому +1

      @edg456 Big Daddy Kane doesn't define what freestyle is for the culture....here on the west coast freestyling has always been about coming off the dome spontaneously. To say that it "devolved" to this level says you don't understand the true art of saying a dope rhyme on the spot without rehearsal.

    • @edg456
      @edg456 4 місяці тому +1

      It's true BDK doesn't define it for the whole culture, but his perspective has a lot of merit. As far as me saying it devolved, I said that because I do appreciate the art form but the truth is a lot of people who freestyle already have rehearsed bits in their head that they piece together. Some artists do have the skill to completely invent something on the spot, but many don't, whether they openly admit it or not. Also, just because people say they can freestyle doesn't mean their music isn't trash. There's a clear distinction between what as you said "saying a dope rhyme on the spot" and what you said about doing entire albums with little substance, which is what I was clearly talking about and assumed you would get that nuance. But that's what I get for making an assumption. 🤷🏿

    • @YaNice117
      @YaNice117 4 місяці тому

      @edg456 Bro I'm with you. Big Daddy Kane has every right to define what a freestyle is. I remember him talking about it too, but vaguely. Somewhere down the line freestyles and off the top became interchangeable terms. Also, you were being generous. A vast majority of people that try to go off the top say wack shit. There is no complexity to them whatsoever. They might get a line or 2 in that is really good but everything else is wack. Only a very very very small percentage of rappers can actually go off the dome and really spit something good. Freestyles however, is when an artist just wants to display his skills and show what he got in his arsenal. Those are definitely written.

    Dr Dre can’t do a lot in the studio. He never releases anything. All them artists over the years he signed and never really released anything. If your that good. Why not do more.

      @@gdiggedy9 Not a lot. He’s a 5-decade vet with countless classics and a billion dollars in the bank. I get the impression that he’s chillin and moves when he wants to. He’s earned that, probably more than anyone in the history of Hip-Hop.

    that method of not writing is str8 dumb. that's what happens when u put production over bars. that s probably why dre's tracks, besides the ones WRITTEN by eminem, have crap lyrics

      yup, killing the rap poetry and lyric writing was the DEATH of hiphop, as much as i hate GenZ, it was my millennials that took poetry out of hiphop, its my era that nas released "hiphop is dead" album

      @ide9273 focus, i'm taking about poetry, yasiin bey, talib kweli, andre 3000 poetry, black thought, jadakiss poetry, az, nas poetry, kane, rakim, slick rick poetry, ras kass, killah priest poetry, thats why i believe cam'ron, 50 cent, lil wayne killed hiphop, focus, and pay attention, yes, cam'ron created dipset anthems, but not poetry, 50 cent made classics, but not poetry, lil wayne used metaphors, similes, wordplay, but not poetry, he wasnt telling a story like nas or 3000 or black thought or slick rick, focus next time, bro
