I honestly thought he was going to actually used the part that says "Momma can you head me!" and just loop with as a vocal sample! ima kinda shocked that he didn't!
Best Rhythm Roulette in quite some time. Although I was really hoping he'd use something from all 3 records on one track. I miss the when they used to do that.
That’s the real definition of rhythm roulette, otherwise it’s just production … I just got 200 used records from my local shop for $10. Rnb,soul, country, orchestral, soundtracks, rock from the 50’s through the 70’s and some progressive trippy stuff……. I’m doing just that. Three blind choices, everything in the beat needs to be from all three records….. even if it’s just a stab. I love making fully original non sampled beats but when it’s sample based I like to do it the old way… it’s way more fun and sharpens your skills.
I agree cause we need that grimy boom bap style to comeback to hip hop with classic soul samples just like how Pete rock, Prince Paul, Large professor, and so many other producers that made that style what it is today.
Absofuckinglutely, THAT (his natural groove) is definitely one of the standout aspects of what he brings and brought to the table here. It's the key element that makes and made ALL the difference and sets someone like him apart from the rest IMO. Right outta the gate, the moment he started playing em', it was instant deep pocket head bob!!! And again, keyword here, "natural"..
As someone that makes little beats in my spare time, watching Capri effortlessly banging out them drums was both inspiring and emasculating at the same time
I know what you mean about emasculating, but I think a better way of describing it was just being in the presence of greatness, a humbling moreso. You still got ya essence as a man you just know where you are.
Def fire and I know he had to play with the sounds he had but I gotta think he's made a similar pattern before with different drums. If not even more impressive, either way its def super dope.
Hey Me from the UK, I am a seasoned Break Beat Collector from the early 19890's, that Grand funk Album definitely dope and was used on a Masta Ace album.
No it really did because when the song/sample/beat/chop whatever music stops playing you want to hear it again. That's ART! Salute and thank you for everything! @Kid Capri
As soon as he grabbed that Barry Manilow, I knew that was gonna be the sleeper! 🤣🤣 What I love about hip-hop is that it can take inspiration from anything. 🙌🏾🔥🔥🔥
Love seeing the legends show their process. Its mainly due to their enthusiasm while still exercising their talents. Ill! Salute to Kid Capri and Mass Appeal!!!
Nice to see him on the Maschine Studio , that is what I got as well . Most the Vets use the MPC ! Love to have the chance to see these legends work !! Thank you Mass Appeal !!
Mass Appeal should do their own version of the "Crate Diggers" series on vinyl record collectors talking about their collections with each episode running for at least one hour :]
Kid Capri a real Legend. I been listening to some of his old Mixtapes he released back in the late 80s on cassettes lately to get some ideas for my mixtapes. you can find them on UA-cam and they like some Hip Hop time capsules for reals and that beat sound crazy ill!! always a blessing to watch a Legend work!!
Cool light groove. Living Legend still getting it done. Nice to see Capri getting more recognition as a producer also. His dopest beats to me.. Put it on by Big L and Nas - Soundtrack to the Streets. He came off lovely with those.
This was dope! Capris' production skills are slept on. He even produced "5 Fingers of Death" for Diamond D. You have to be crazy nice to produce for a great producer!
Listening to 5 Fingers of Death right now and all i can say is that if you didn't know it was a kid capri joint you would think its a showbiz joint, sounds so like show production
9th wonder araabmuzik and ski probably were my favorite beats up here honestly.. this was fire tho. Kid capri dont get enuff credit as a producer either.. I'm more into the actual techniques these guys are using than the actual finished product most of the time. But beatwise those were probably my top 5
So simple, straight to the point really. From the melody you could start formulating a flow. Everything else is butter! KiD being Legendary like always
OK, 3 important things to note: - He actually had a 1210 to sample off, not a last minute, I need some form of record playing device, $40 WallMart purchase! - He actually chopped the sample apposed to simply looping and adding some effects. - He knew all the artists on the records! I know thats not a major achievement as these were not obscure records BUT 2 words, Donny Hathaway!!!!! Salute to the legend Kid Capri. You did the format (and Barry) proud!
@@jaykay360 Would love the opportunity to do an official one! Especially as my first ever official release was the UK remix of Nas's Ain't hard to tell! I'm ready and willing if anyone from@Mass Appeal wants to get in touch!

For those curious, sample at 3:16 is originally a solo piano piece from the romantic era composed by Frederic Chopin. Piece is Prelude op 28 No 20 in C minor!
the excerpt kid capri ended up sampling from barry manilow is directly taken from a rachmaninoff piece (inspired by chopin). so so so cool to see that kind of stuff brought back to life after like 200 years!
That "Momma Can You Hear Me" Sample! 🔥🔥🔥

I was thinking the same thing lol. Hes gonna have some personal time with that sample lol
When Kid Capri smiles when he finds a dope sample, you just feel it!! Props to the legend.

Still looking forward to seeing Pete Rock, Premo, Alchemist and Madlib. Record chopping legends.
Those are all quite secretive people, we'll never get episodes out of them

Lyrically driven beat. The right MC takes it to the next level and it becomes a classic. Nice!
