I love Ginny Weasley and always thought the movies never did her justice. Shame, because Bonnie Wright looked born to play her and I'm sure she would have done the character justice if she had more to work with.
AwksNerd; You are mistaken, Bonnie Wright doesn't fit the books description of Ginny as being beautiful. She's cute, but not beautiful. Ginny was, s the book put it, "too popular than was good for her." Just my opinion.
I get that movies can't cover all the details of every character due to time restraints and all that but they could've easily given Ginny a slightly bigger role or just better characterization
Honestly watching back it’s not as bad of a characterization as I thought I remembered. I just wish there were a few more scenes showing their relationship evolve in less awkward ways and maybe more of Ginny outside of Harry’s Orbit.

Everytime someone says that Ginny is boring and that Harry deserved better, I ask if the person read the books, the answer is always no. The movies ruined the character (not Bonnie Wright, she is awesome).
He fell in love with her because of her personality but also because she's pretty in books (but her looks wouldn't mean anything to Harry if she didn't have great personality)
Thank you for pointing out the one big thing that is often forgotten, Ginny doing the job of combat medic. It is the one part left out of the movie that really shows what actually makes Ginny a great character. Her ability to show great compassion despite her own grief. She gave comfort to the dying girl without asking anyone to comfort her in her own time of loss. As i have said it is an often overlooked part in the book.
I wouldn’t say she’s the perfect actress 😅. I would definitely like to see someone else play her. Also with better writing of her character in the film.

Honestly, if I had a Friendship as close as Harry and Ron were. I wouldnt mind him dating my sister. Better the ones you know and trust than the ones you don't.
Ron trusts Harry and since they're best friends, Ron can always ask how the relationship is going and would most likely know whats going on. While Dean, he doesn't really know him, and because of that he doesn't really trust him, so he wouldn't know what he's doing with his sister. I thought that would be obvious
some people blame Bonnie for Ginny’s personality/actions, when it really isn’t her fault. Bonnie could have portrayed book Ginny amazingly, only the directors/screen writers didn’t allow that to happen.
You have to put a bit of blame on Bonnie tho. The screenwriter gives her lines sure. But she is the one performing them and it might have not been the character best for her. I think she could have acted as movie Hermione a bit better. Not the full blame tho
@@theparrot6516 yes you are right but u have to remember she was a child for majority of the filming. and since she already had this performance people were familiar with, it’d be quite strange for her to change it completely. Absolutely adore Harry and Ginny as a couple. Think they were written so well. Can't understand people's criticism of there not being enough foreshadowing, and that his feelings came out of nowhere in HBP. The seeds were planted in Order of the Phoenix. From Ginny finally being able to be normal around Harry thanks to her dating Michael Corner (which Harry noted), to her scolding him for secluding himself because of his connection to Voldy (showing she cared), to them having their first real conversation in the library (which Harry enjoyed), and finally (and IMO this proves his feelings once and for all) on the train home Harry asked her to sit with him, but she sat with her friends, which made Harry realise how much (up until that year) time they never spent together, and the need he has for her presence now he has finally spent more time with her. (There was also indication in GoF.) The movies did loads of damage as well, since it's the main thing Harmoine shippers use (Because the director wanted to push Harmoine even though the book clearly shows he has no romantic feelings for her at all) and absolutely disrespecting Ron and Ginny to do so. And as for his relationship with Ginny, it's one of the healthiest relationships in all of YA and Soft fantasy. From Harry breaking up with her to protect her from Voldy, To Harry constantly ensuring she's safe by looking at the Marauder's Map, to his feeling of dread/concern when she got caught trying to take Gryffindor's Sword, to Harry not daring to call out to her when he was on his way to sacrifice himself knowing if he did he wouldn't be able to do what was needed, to his final thought being of kissing her. Their relationship (from Chamber of Secrets all the way to Deathly Hallows) was s relationship built on pure and undying love and admiration no matter the circumstance
The "out of nowhere" argument has literally become a meme at this point. For years he waxes lyrical about her bright brown eyes reflecting the firelight, about her blushing face glowing like the setting sun, about her long mane of red hair dancing behind her, and people still obstinately argue that he ignored her for five years? By all means people can make the argument that they were not developed well enough, and even as a Harry/Ginny fan there's some truth to that. But there's a difference between that and making shit up.
@@stefan4159 absolutely, could it have been handled better? Yes. But was it handled poorly? Absolutely not. I agree he never ignored her and suddenly loved her, since he began gaining romantic inclinations for her in Order of the Phoenix. As I said it's one of the healthiest relationships you'll read in YA fantasy
@@damienchristopher5652 Have you read an essay on SugarQuill.net called "Giving Her The Power: The Characterization of Harry/Ginny"? If not, you should read it, it's extremely well researched and detailed, showing the wealth of foreshadowing our favourite couple has.
“The thing about growing up with Fred and George is that you start thinking anything is possible if you got enough nerve” - Ginny Weasley (Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix)
Of all the relationships in the books, to me, the way Ginny's relationship with Harry developed over the course of the books, from excitable but shy fangirl to calling Harry out for his stupidity and generally relaxing around him to be herself and winning his affection, was a sweet and satisfying development. The fact that they were able to enjoy each other's company and share the same interests, yet remain refreshingly honest with each other through thick and thin is my goal for a relationship in life. The language used to express how much Harry missed Ginny while he was on the run with Ron and Hermione really tugs at the heartstrings when reading it for the first time. Sadly, the same, in my opinion, cannot be said for Ron and Hermione. There's too much confrontation in their relationship for my liking, but hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion and I respect that
Ron and Hermione are passionate, very jealous and stubborn together. I totally see why they'd be in conflict and then end up together. I think Hermione noticed Ron from the very first book and saw him as a love interest when he saved her life from the troll. It took Ron a bit longer to recognize her, but in the Deathly Hallows he actually learned to be much better and nicer to girls in general thanks to the book he got about how to speak to girls. And we don't really know what happened between them in the summers when the two of them would spend time talking, since the books are mostly from the perspective of Harry. Which is a bit unfortunate, since we didn't see the proper development in full, only parts. But that's how I would justify the ship at least.
I love Ginny and Harry but like I feel like their relationships was poorly developed and written....and I think that's because the original plan was for Hermione was supposed to end up with Harry at first and it was changed as the series developed.
@@Abc234Fans Oh, yeah, I forgot that one! :) Also when she did the Reducto spell in the Department of Mysteries and it was powerful enough to collapse every shelf in the damn room! Still, those few glimpses of book Ginny were still too few and far between!
Still mad they didnt include the quidditch kiss scene in the movies, that was the begining of their relationship, Ginny is my fav character (i also have her wand ) i would vote to remake the movies just so she has justice
their kiss scene in the movies is honestly a crime. the kiss after the quidditch match was so powerfull; they just did it, in front of everyone, and confirmed months of tension. the best thing about it was that it was in front of all her brothers, while their movie kiss makes their relationship seem «secret» . this scene is one of my favourites and they really did her dirty. they kinda made it seem like she didn’t have the confidence to kiss harry in public.
The films seemed to ignore all of Hermione’s bad attributes, and ignored some of Ginny’s good attributes. Rather than having 2 above-average female characters, they decided to go all out and make Hermione seem like a super human. I like Hermione but I’m not her biggest fan, so I’ll admit that maybe this is bias and I’m just hyper-aware of how much more kind the directors were to her character than they should’ve been.
Some of Ginny's good attributes? They ignored like 95 percent of them! No hate to Hermione but she's kinda overrated in the movies I just love book hermione but the movies made her look like she has no flaws
Yes true , according to the movies , hermoine is the perfect human and ginny is nothing but the chosen one’s love interest, she was given absolutely no personality ..
Harry: Wingardiam leviosa potter, you were named so that every time a teacher yells at you stuff flies around the room, your mother wanted to call you fred, but i think this is more true to his memory
There is this oneshot fanfiction called 'The Wendell who wasn't' which explains hilariously why do the potter children have the names of harry's parents. Basically Ginny did it to spite someone. Its extremely funny and well written.
I have headcanon that Ginny was actually the one to name Lily Luna. She thought it would be nice to name their daughter after Harry's mother, and she thought that Lily was a beautiful name. And since Luna and her were very close and good friends, she named her daughter after one of her best friends (Luna Lovegood of course) and made Luna her godmother as well. I just don't think Harry would force Ginny to not have a say in their names, you know?
Bonnie Write is an amazing actress and person and would have been the perfect Ginny if only the directors gave her better scenes. No hate though still love Harry Potter.
The dress was actually far too low-cut for Auntie Muriel's taste. That made Ginny turn around and wink. I like how Rowling subtly added the sexual tension without being obvious. Ginny looked hot and knew what Harry liked.
This video essay about Ginny is by far one of my most favorite of your Harry Potter videos. I just gotten myself the complete novel series and can't wait to officially begin Harry's journey, his "proper" journey. And can I say that I can't wait to see Ginny in it :)
Ginny was related to everyone in the golden trio Harry’s wife Ron’s sister Hermione’s best friend Ron and Hermione then got married making The golden trio a family
I imagine Ginny being a similar mother to Molly. Fierce when it came to keeping her children out of trouble/danger, but at the same time one of the most loving and caring people ever. Cool mom, basically.
I just realized. Kids in the world of Harry Potter are the only kids that are actually excited to go to school. Wish I could feel the same way about school.
That is half true but I do agree that Hogwarts is much more interesting than a normal school because potions transfigurations even divination and I found one common thread we are all more involved and looking at a book and going for the Hermione way of doing it
After everything Harry went thru, losing Sirius, learning the prophecy, seeing Voldemort rise etc Ginny was the only one who made him forget all those things, like Harrys says in Half Blood Prince, she was his "Only source of comfort".
That's not true. It was luna who gave him greatest comfort after sirius's death. He said it himself that the only time he could feel relief & lil hopeful is after his discussion with luna after sirius's death
I always saw Harry and Hermione's relationship as brother and sister. When the locket horcrux showed Harry and Hermione kissing it was a very creepy moment. The dancing in the movie was a little out there as well.
@@depravedbeast1735 Yeah, the dancing in the movies definitely would throw people off if they haven't read the books. But in the books, Ron and Hermione all the way, as well as Harry and Ginny.
The thing is, without Ginny, I doubt that Harry would’ve survived the horcrux hunt. Like literally, whenever he was in danger, he would think of Ginny and he would fight as hard as he could because of that.
Harry wouldn’t have survived if the girls weren’t there, well he could’ve done without umbitch and bellatrix but other than that he basically wouldn’t have been able to survive
Ginny was a baddie yet sweet at the same time. I loved whenever somebody would piss her off she would put them in their place and wouldn't hold back. One of my favorite lines from her was when Harmione was bitching about Harry and Ron talking about Quidditch and Ginny told her that she didn't even understand and she shouldn't even embarrass herself trying to do so lmao.
I love Ginny's Quidditch line against Hermione, but that wasn't when it was used. It was when Hermione was nagging Harry about the Half-Blood Prince despite him being at a low point. Ginny tells Hermione to give it a rest and that Draco could have used Crucio on Harry, Hermione uses Quidditch to manipulate Ginny on to her side, and that's when Ginny says "don't pretend like you understand Quidditch" (which was also code for "don't pretend like you understand how to read a room" and other things Hermione didn't understand in this conversation).

Ron trusts Harry and since they're best friends, Ron can always ask how the relationship is going and would most likely know whats going on. some people blame Bonnie for Ginny’s personality/actions, when it really isn’t her fault. Bonnie could have portrayed book Ginny amazingly, only the directors/screen writers didn’t allow that to happen.
ikr bonnie would have played it amazingly. that is the same for ron and some more charcters. i wish it ws exactley like the books
(edit) also when you’re a child in that line of work it must be kind of scary just a bit, she was probably just playing it safe doing as she was told bc i probably would too
Agreed she’s amazing and beautiful the screenwriters are at blame
Yes thats true , i have seen people criticising bonnie for the movie ginny when its not her fault at all
Absolutely adore Harry and Ginny as a couple. (There was also indication in GoF.)
The movies did loads of damage as well, since it's the main thing Harmoine shippers use (Because the director wanted to push Harmoine even though the book clearly shows he has no romantic feelings for her at all) and absolutely disrespecting Ron and Ginny to do so.

@@ginnyweasley5410 Yeah, 😏
There's too much confrontation in their relationship for my liking, but hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion and I respect that
Well said
Exactly the way I feel. While I like Ron/Hermione, I much prefer Harry/Ginny.
I like Harry and Ginny in the books but I definitely prefer Ron and Hermione as a pairing, but then again that’s just my personal opinion
I love Ginny and Harry but like I feel like their relationships was poorly developed and written....and I think that's because the original plan was for Hermione was supposed to end up with Harry at first and it was changed as the series developed.

their kiss scene in the movies is honestly a crime. the kiss after the quidditch match was so powerfull; they just did it, in front of everyone, and confirmed months of tension. the best thing about it was that it was in front of all her brothers, while their movie kiss makes their relationship seem «secret» . this scene is one of my favourites and they really did her dirty. they kinda made it seem like she didn’t have the confidence to kiss harry in public.

Rather than having 2 above-average female characters, they decided to go all out and make Hermione seem like a super human.
Harry noticed her
The movies didn’t

“Every great man has a greater woman behind him.” God, you are so right. Gotta give my respect.
"Every great woman became great from the greater man." That would also work
I know
Ikr ❤️
I disagree not EVERY great man maybe not even most the first thing that came to my mind was Gaius Juluis Caesar then I thought about Napoleon Bonaparte and suddenly I found myself trying to find examples for over 10 minutes and I managed to find quite alot of examples. I think people become great because they take examples from the people who came before them thats just the first then they also need ambition, the ambition to be better then those people who everyone knows.
*every great man has a greater woman BESIDE them
I dont know about you but I'm never standing behind my man in the metaphorical positioning of our relationship.
