DIY Elder Wand made out of Harry Potter Book

- In this video I make the elder wand by glueing harry potter books together.
This video is very different from my regular ones, it was more experimental but we will be back to the normal style in the next video.

This video has taken about a year and a half to make because I ran into some issues along the way. One major setback was when I tried to stabilize the first blank. The cactus juice I used didn't react well with the wood glue, the blank cracked when I cured it in the oven.
I was hoping the wood glue would work because it's budget friendly, but I was wrong ;)
The reason I ended up shaping it with the rotary tool was because it was too thin to continue turning it.

Holy heck! Miles, this is an awesome video! I LOVE the cinematics, and all the little references to other makers, like the Jackman hard cut transformations, and everything else. Love the result as well, and not hiding your failures. I just about died laughing when I saw my face on screen. Thank you for that! Super cool video! 🤩
Haha, Thanks for letting me ask you some questions on camera back at maker fair. That was what tied it together! ;)
Switch & Lever Brilliant cameo! I honestly laughed out loud.
I absolutely loved this Miles. Video production, references, visual effects....brilliant sir.
Thanks! I definetly took some cues from your visual effects! ;)
I absolutely loved watching this!… I adore that you left in the first attempt, I was enthralled throughout the whole process, flipping Fantastic job ✨
Miles I am playing catch up as only found your channel a few days ago and not one of your videos has disappointed BUT this one is another level as so in keeping with the Harry Potter theme with your brilliant cinematic add ins and joyful humours play with the wizard beard etc and the cherry on the top was the fabulous choice of sound track - you are a star and then some !
Thank-you as your videos are food for the creative heart soul and mind x
love the editing! great job like always!
This is an amazing video!!! Great job Miles.
As a huge fan of Harry Potter I must say I was very impressed with cinematography, effects and your workmanship 👍👍👍
This is NEXT LEVEL! The story, the editing, the build, and those puns! "Vacuum Chamber of Secrets" had me dying! 😂
Haha thank you Spenser, this was one of my favorite videos to film ;)
So well done!
Thank you!
The video editing and effort you've put in on this is on another level, this was amazing!
Thank you, I really appreciate that. ;)
Both the video and your wand are incredible pieces of artful making. I only recently found your channel, and have been binge watching from the beginning. Of the many makers I have watched put their own spin on a Harry Potter project, this has got to be one of the most amazing outcomes. The fact that some text from the novel is visible on the wand is such a beautiful touch. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
well done Miles, enjoyed the whole show - especially the lathe work.
Thanks Mark!
Really well done!
very, very magical. 🌠
All round excellent!
Very well done. You have a great future ahead. Keep it up.
Una idea magica con una produccion fantastica! Acaso has estudiado en Howarts? Congrtulations!
Outstanding. Very creative.
Thank you! Cheers!
Fantastic job dude
Thanks Tyler!!
I'm kinda mad I haven't seen this channel before. I'm a fan of cinematics myself so I know the work that went into this video. Good stuff dude!
Haha, Thank you Jake!
@@MakeWithMiles What camera you use man?
Great job, it looks awesome!
Thanks Kordan ;)
This came out so cool! It's really neat that you can see some of the text peeking through. The beard made me chuckle! Also "The Juice of One Cactus" and "Vacuum Chamber of Secrets"! Nicely done!
Haha, Thank you! I'm glad people are getting the jokes!
Seriously so sick! The idea, the wand and the video! More like a film actually. Loved it! Any more cinematic style vids in the plans?
Love this. I am definitely subscribing without a doubt. Can’t wait for more.
Wow. I almost skipped this Video and I am so glad that I've seen it now. Your skills in art develop soooo great! Keep it up! EVERYTHING on this production was absolutely stunning - either Video edititing, quality of Video and effects and last but not least the built itself! Hope many more people will see this!
I'm 27 and you inspire me so much at your young age!
Again: keep it up!
Awesome Miles! What a long time in the making. What patience and persistence. You really brought this alive with your vision--weaving together the video, the music, the story. And the wand is amazing. Thank you for sharing and congratulations!
WELL DONE!!! great video, and a lot of fun to watch.
Thanks Derek!
I am really impressed with the creativity and attention to detail you put into this video Miles. Excellent work from the make of the wand to the visual effects.
Thanks Elya!
Dude, this was amazing! Loved seeing the Adam Savage bag. Still haven’t finished mine yet!
Wow! You really upped your game on this one. Some really great cinema quality footage in there! The subtle FX added a lot too. Love the detail in the finished product, especially with the text coming through to the surface. Great job overall! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Seth, I appreciate your observations! ;)
Awesome job Miles! Good on you to make a second one 👍 Love the detail on the final result. Really nice work 😊
Haha, yeah, I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep going after the first try failed, but I had to because I'd already filmed so much ;) Thanks
Dang, Miles! It took a sinister turn at the end, but your cinematic approach to revealing this long-term project was both entertaining and very creative!!! Great job on all aspects: the project itself, the videography, the soundtrack choices, and all of your patience in this endeavor!!! Excellent job all around!!!
Wow, thank you! and it did turn out more sinister than I originally planned ;)
Oh. And I loved the beard! lol
Well done!
Thanks Kyle!
Miles, this just amazing on every level! I know this must have been a huge amount of work, but man it’s so awesome. Those little touches of humor are perfect. Love the whole thing! Bravo!!
Thank you Bernie! ;)
good job 💪🏻 !
Awesome video!
Thanks Ned!
This is amazing! Love the project, love the edit and love that you'll be doing more like this in the future!.... Ok, that last one was really just a request.
Haha, thank you ;)
im studying film and animation and I have to say I have deep respect for the effort you put in the camera work and editing. In the end I thought no way he will use vfx stuff now, but you did! Stay creative dude!
Thanks man!! I really appreciate it
Excellent!!! So enjoyable to watch and the references! Hey, I remember that day at Maker Faire it was the first time meeting you and Daniel. Wait, was there something amiss with the oven, some coded message. Nah, that would have been a Sirius Black & Decker. Would love to see more. The level of effort for this must have been tremendous and it certainly shows.
Haha! I definetely remember when we all met at maker fair, that was very fun! Yeah, I don' t ses how I missed that opportunity with the title of the oven ;)
Thank you!
You should send this to JK. Amazing work
prity cool video , I really like your movie like style of showing your project. With greetings from Germany
Thanks Luis!! ;) cheers from Oregon
Oh my god. What was this for a great and absolutely insane Video. I love it. Please make more of them. Best regards from #EuerKonstantin
Thank you Euer!
Also this music is it open source my videos are about ancient mysteries so it fits perfecly
The music is from epidemic sound which is a subscription service, there's a link in the description
Just stunning product value, did you do everything be yourself or did someone help out with filming?
Thanks! I filmed everything myself with the exception of one or two shots that I had on a gimbal.
@@MakeWithMiles that’s really amazing, it really doesn’t look like it. Really inspiring what a one man crew can accomplish
What resources can I find to self produce my video in this way, what did you sit the camera on etc.
I would recommend checking out some youtube tutorials on filmaking with a dslr camera, as for what my camera was sitting on, I use a tripod and a gimbal
Thomas Edison said that he didn’t fail 100 times to make a light bulb. He just invented 100 ways to NOT make one. The great thing about art is if you don’t like what you did, you can change it. Never stop at what you deem a failure. You just learned how to not make it.
You should have never made this Miles. The amount of people that are going to die to have this
Somethings I do regret. Just now am I realizing the evil I have done by making this.
@@MakeWithMiles You learned your lesson when he no longer needed you
I wish I had a wand like that I could make certain politicians disappear..☠💩👌🕳 Also I want to say judging from the fog and the terrain you must live somewhere along the coastline of Oregon or Washington State
You destroyed Harry Potter books!?
haha, did you watch the video?
Nice work Miles, keep failing!
Haha, thank you Brian!
