    I always appreciate the salt and the pepper! And, at 62, totally understand the mysterious enigma of body shape and size fluctuations.

    These came out so great! I am not surprised that it was a quality pattern, or that it was size inclusive. Helen is one of the ladies from the Love to Sew podcast and she and Caroline (her co-host and owner of Blackbird Fabrics) have extensively covered their own struggles with size inclusivity on the show. (They are also based in the Vancouver area, for those who didn't know about these awesome companies being Canadian.) Their podcast has taught me a ton about technical stuff, hacks, fabrics, the sewing world and some of the major players and recognizable folks within it and, most importantly to me, how to heal from the trauma around and learn to love my body.

      I don't generally spend a lot of time listening to podcasts, but I may have to check that one out. I can always use more info on technique and fabrics!

    Thank you for sharing my video! Im glad my random ramblings led you to something you really liked ❤ the windlows are great. I made them ages ago. Her slash pocket tutorial is really good, but the dimensions she suggested were way too small to get my hands in my pockets, so double-check it if you go to make these again with that hack.

      The Winslow Culottes really do fit well (even better with the elastic waistband hack) and are really comfy. Also, if you're looking for a way to combat the rub, a lot of stores are now selling thin bike short-style pettipants that can be worn under loose trousers and skirts. I think I've seen them through Snag Tights and Torrid 😃

    I totally agree with being yourself in style. I've been making a lot of 70's stuff. I find it extremely comfortable, great shape and styles. I wear smocks,wide leg pants,skorts instead of shorts. I wore all of these in the 70's when I had a youthful 22" waist. Now that I'm in my 60's, with a 40" I find the clothes are much more flattering on my body shape. Palazzo pants,gouchos,Gunne sax,Empire waist dresses,and smocks are beautiful and comfortable. ❤

    Great to spend time with you as usual Maire, had to laugh at the cat on the ironing board. I had a cat who loved sitting on my ironing space too. A large area in front of a sunny window. If there was a towel down, she was allowed up. No towel, no puss. For the most part we got along on this matter but she did not like the iron on the big board at all. This is a 1.5 metre x 600 surface by the way. The iron was shoved off at every opportunity and the floor around the board had lots of v shaped divots as well as dents of all sizes. Still miss that brat

    Oh I love how those came out.❤❤ Especially paired with your 80's vest. Super fun. And of course mandatory kitty cuddles is always a bonus. Looks like they have settled down enough to not be too much trouble in the sewing room.
    Ironically my daughter stated that she wanted to go hoese backbriding for her sweet 16. I looked into a trail ride through the superstition moutains and that requires pants. I haven't worn pnats in years. Don't really care for them. I always fet that they impeded my movements. But i thought for her i might as well syck it up and blow the dust off my jeans for an hour. Your seceret pants just gave me an idea. I night have to jump on the secret pants band wagon and make a pair. Since I wont be driving or going up and down stairs they probably wont be a problem. Especially since I'm daddy long legs.

    I really appreciated your chat about finding your style and your journey to where you are now in making your own clothes. I'm closer to 60 than I really want to admit to, but I have no idea what my style is, other than comfort above all. I mostly live in jeans and tee shirts or my work uniform which is also jeans and a tee shirt (just in the required company colours - black and a fairly hideous bright green) and I would like something other than that, but I don't know what.

      I think trying to diversify sources of fashion information is key. I'm really bad at pinning myself into a niche, so concentrating solely on vintage or cottagecore or costuming isn't going to work for me. So I try to listen to (and pick and choose from) different sources. Luckily, that seems to be paying off 😃

    Love the pants. They look great. Glad everything worked out for your trip!
    I did fashion for a short time in the 80's my mom was so happy. Then much to her disappointment I went back to jeans and a T. When I started having kids if it couldn't be washed I didn't want it! So comfy washable usually dark was my standard. Still is.
    I hear you about mom's. My mom's style for everything is not hers! There were a couple of polyester pantsuits that still make me shutter! Not to mention the hefty pants with elastic waist bands that never fit well. She also made get rid of a sweater my aunt made because my sister was allergic to it!

      @MaireColclough  Місяць тому

    I am so thrilled you did this pattern! I have been wondering what to do with this certain fabric I have, and now I know! Thank you.
    My mother didn't sew much, but I ended up in my sister's hand me downs. My sister was seven years older than me and about 4 inches taller than me, so the clothes that finally fit me were about 10 years old. So I was wearing 70s clothes in the 80s, unaltered. She also would buy shoes from the bargain section, and I was a chubby 11-year -old wearing wannabe Earth shoes in Grade 6. Not a good look! But she did her best bless 'er❤

    • @MaireColclough
      @MaireColclough  Місяць тому +1

      Oh wow...the hand-me-downs. I'd get them from a cousin who seemed to be a bit better off than we were. Definitely different tastes in fashion.
      But 70s in the 80s? I'm so sorry you had to go through that! I know there's a bunch of younger folks who don't know what the big deal is, but the styles were so vastly different!
      🫂

    I always have the problem of that loosefitting pants/secret pants start traveling upwards between my thighs (super sexy to go around grabbing yourself between the legs to adjust this issue), particularly if is a fabric like the one you used. So I'm a skirt/dress kind of gal.

    • @MaireColclough
      @MaireColclough  Місяць тому

      I usually have the same problem, but these pants aren't bad! And having tested them at an event where there was a lot of standing up and sitting down, most wedgies are easily fixed with a tug at the pocket, like adjusting your skirt 😉

    Oh these turned out amazing. They look fabulous with both the purple top and the waistcoat.
    One question (if you're okay with answering it).
    What height is the crotch seam? I'm tempted to get this pattern but I can't wear anything where that seam rides down at all.

    • @MaireColclough
      @MaireColclough  Місяць тому

      The rise on the size I made is around 18 to 18.5 inches. They're designed for the rise to be fairly deep. That said, the pattern has excellent information on grading the rise (complete with diagrams where appropriate)!
      I'd suggest maybe making some shorts as a toile or doing a paper fitting to make sure the rise is the right length for you 😃

    I have the same problem with pants that are the current vogue. Either too short in the waist, not long enough in the leg, or built for a 14 year old. You have no idea how hard it is to find a decent pair of pants without 10% elastic, or no pockets.

    • @MaireColclough
      @MaireColclough  Місяць тому

      You can definitely make the pockets in this pair of pants as big as you want. Just make sure you make them tall enough to include in the waistband 😉

    They really look like a skirt. I think my mother (if she were still living) would approve of me wearing pants like yours. In fact, I can't stand jeans (and their like) anymore; because they are so uncomfortable. My figure has changed (because I will soon be 76 years old). I'm getting shorter and wider (gravity has got a good hold on me now). In High School, on Thursdays we wore all black clothes; because, we were mourning the other School's team that our School's team was going to beat badly Friday night. On Fridays we wore our School's colors (orange, black, and white). Mom tried to dress my sister and I as little versions of herself. It didn't work when we hit our teens in the 1960's. She told us we were going to hell.

    • @MaireColclough
      @MaireColclough  Місяць тому

      I don't think hell played into Mum's view on fashion, but she really did think her way was the best way. I just wanted to dress my age. I've tried to take the better parts of her lessons and apply it to my style experiments.
      Sounds like your High School had the right way to look at things...mourning the other team's defeat is hilarious!
