    It is magnificent! It’s an apron that you keep for when the doorbell rings and you take off your apron, and put on your red apron and go answer the door!
    PS (The cat sling is great, too!)

    Kittens! I have 2 Siamese and one black panther kittens (as well as an old lady ginger) that are a huge bother when I'm crafting. Soggy yarn, crumpled and torn patterns, hair every where; it's great! They are such a joyful addition to a family, congratulations!

    Great fabric choice for you. And so good to see the scrupulously efficient pattern placement for cutting. As a Depression and WWII generation, my mum was a stickler for pattern placement being the most effective possible. It's a habit Ive practiced through my life and a delight I don't often get to enjoy here online!

    I do turkey frequently. When cooked i cut it up and freeze it in little one or two servings. That way it is easy to grab, defrost and you have turkey salad or sandwich. My daughter has one of those Hamilton beach turkey "ovens". It does a turkey in half the time and leaves your oven free for the side dishes. It is also great in the summer, stick it on the balcony and do your roast or chicken out there and keep the house cool.
    That apron looks great on you or it will when you fix the front. Totally use it for baking, it feels so much nicer to work in something you like. It is washable after all.

    • @MaireColclough
      @MaireColclough  7 місяців тому +3

      I was surprised how quickly we went through the turkey leftovers...repair efforts on the apron are already underway! 😃

  • @laurawilliams7782
    @laurawilliams7782 7 місяців тому +2

    One thing to consider with the turkey is cooking it cut up instead of a whole turkey. We tried it back when we were the supper people and it worked well for us. Everything cooked consistently, it was much easier to move around and it there was far less carving to do while people were waiting to eat. I know the 'large bird display' is important to some, but if that's not you, this might work.
    Kittens, as always, are absolutely adorable

    • @MaireColclough
      @MaireColclough  7 місяців тому

      The bird, amazingly, wasn’t our issue…it was the side dishes! We will plan better next time 😁

    I would definitely like to hear about the ongoing apron dilemma. I also need an apron, and being rather busty myself, I get really frustrated with the bib of the apron shifting to one side or another. Like, "NO, only ONE boob can be protected - ONLY ONE". My own quest continues even after my Mom tried her hand at it.

    • @SciFiFemale

    I am so glad to see another, new video from you. You have a fantastic presence and personality which makes for a great show. I would love to see a remake of your grandmother’s apron/ mother’s apron. I enjoyed watching this video. But, I am itching to change the shoulder width on your red apron. It is so lovely and the colour really suits you, but that bib and the oversized shoulders is annoying me!! Anyway, loved seeing the cute kitties, I miss my Oriental cats and wish we could have more. And another shirt would be good to see. I am currently trialling a pattern for an 1880’s bodice from “Mantua Maker”. They are size inclusive and yet have flattering lines. Maybe when your next video appears, I will have either, made it into a successful shirt/bodice/ whatever (I like to adapt a good basic pattern, because who knows when I might find another that fits me?!!) OR, I will have binned it in the usual “Well, that was a whole waste of time” bin. 😂Totally understand the frustrations that sewing brings. Yet, I love sewing. There must be a group somewhere for masochistic sewists?

    I love it! Kitties are endlessly entertaining, too. "I winged it" without a pattern and did a similar apron. I was going for an Edwardian style. It works, and even has embroidery on the top and pockets. But its white. Not my favorite color and not just because my laundry and hard water make keeping stuff white impossible. My body rejects it too😂 So I'm making another! Black and gray, floral motif. Also, the skirt part actually needs to go all the way around, since ill never lose the habit of washing my hands and wiping them on my hips to dry? Maybe a large buttonhole type thing with a hand towel for that? Hmm, now I'm complicating my life. Like when I made egg gathering aprons when I don't have chickens.

Especially after helping my daughter make a full bustle gown for a dance. At the current moment I hate tape. But when I'm finally ready to print another pattern I thing I will try this for lining pieces up. I really like the color of your apron. I think it's too pretty to use in the kitchen and you should make another one for actual cooking then save this one for serving pie. After you fix the bodice of course. One day your thinking it is half a dress, and the next day you are thinking, seem up the back skirt and it practically a dress.

      Thanks! The pie crust recipe is right out of America’s Test Kitchen… should be easy to find. I accidentally used lard instead of shortening. Whoops 🙂

    Yep, show us the making of a new Gramma's apron.
    Also, are the kittens siblings? Is that a Russian Blue Siamese?
    We had a black kitten, Chooch, who had 5 kittens. All boys. 4 Russian Blues and a pure white who browned up to be a Russian Blue Siamese. They are Missile Launcher, Potato, Chirper, Warren, and Polar Rice. Missile lives with my oldest, the rest live with me.
    At any rate, I was wondering because it is alleged that Siamese cats are noisy, but that Russian Blue Siamese are noisiest of all. Ricer, as he is known, only seems to have two thoughts: Food, and I'm lost.

      The kittens are siblings...no idea their heritage as we adopted them through the local Humane Society 💕

    The underdress could double as a shift for other outfits?

      I'm using blouses and a skirt under the apron...but a chemise dress might look nice 😃

    Doesn't this type of apron protect the chest better from flour accidents and oil splatters than the one you had before? I always find that even when they're wide, those never account for the actual chest Volume in terms of shape.
    (Also that pie looks delicious, I'm sad we didn't get a cross-section)

    I love how extra the apron is but I also wear a similarly extra apron so I'm biased. Are the pockets on an apron supposed to be functional? I can never figure out what I'm meant to be putting in them. Measuring spoons?

      Probably measuring spoons and the odd lemon 😁

    Please fix it in a video so we can ask learn together how to fix our mistakes and normalize not abandoning things when they don't fit. Totally take a break from it if you need to though i did that with my husband pants when they went to the naughty pile for a month before i could face them again.
