Wow!!! Just Wow!!! I never would have dared to do such a radical thing. But, after watching you and hearing the trials to get it just right..... I think i have the skills. Thank you. You are inspiring as well as so very entertaining with your dry wit.😊
Living in Western Australia we do NOT need turtle necks, and there were a couple of turtle necks hanging around our house unloved. I zigzagged around where I wanted to cut it then turned it down and sewed it. Voila!! Round necks and now much worn - when it’s not 42 degrees Celsius 😂. Never thought of a collared look - looks wonderful!!
So cool. I wish I could knit to modify a sweater or two of mine. Maybe the Tunisian style of crochet would work. Thank you for the inspiration and kittens.❤❤❤
I haven't had the courage to try steeking. I might get a sweater at the Second Hand store and try it. If it turns out to be a disaster, I will still have learned from the experience. I could barely breath when I saw someone cut and then sew a gorgeous hand-made mohair sweater, so I know it can be done. You've given me the courage to give it a go. Thanks.
Ah mohair...all that sticky sticky fabric. I can see why they'd steek it! Remember, if you sew the channel you're going to cut into (and you use a small enough stitch length), nothing's going to move when you cut those stitches 😃
Great job making it functional and pretty for you. Yes it is very 80s vibe. I steeked for the first time last month. Last year i knit a very colourful sweater as my stress knitting during the preparations for moving. Last month i turned it into a cardigan as planned and steeked the armholes. The front edge and collar are knitted but i have to do something about the front fringe now. But then i got a cold so it is back in its basket until i can handle the steek stress again.
@@MaireColclough I know. I have cut into my knitting! My fair isle knitting! That was the worst thing ever. In my closet is the body of a sweater I made in 2000. All I needed to do was steek the armholes. It never happened. I am thinking of making a pillow. My size has changed.... it is an Alice starmore Celtic pattern so it will make a nice pillow.
Hey you two... The Almighty Algorithm Gods (both the old and the AI) just threw up a suggestion for a trailer for a movie about PBS sewist and teacher Nancy Zieman. _Marie_ - you want some ideas about how to run your channel, I think I just found the predecessor to Cos Tube... Lady was/is remarkable. Had the entire range - from pattern fitting to quilting (the ones that she did at the end of her life deserve a place in the Smithsonian, wow, just wow). Dudes! Humans! I just found the Sewing Mister Rogers!!! Hope the day is going well for both of you... - C. (yadda-Steve-yadda), O/B/Pimisi
@@stevezytveld6585 oh yeah her show is amazing! I learnt a lot between that one and the Sewing Connection with Shirley Adams. Both were amazing teachers. Oh both shows are on UA-cam sewing with Nancy is on the PBS Wisconsin channel and sewing connection has it’s own channel!
Ah, Teen Wolf... one of the classics. The memory of Michael J. Fox opening up the bathroom door to meet his furry father still lives rent free in me head. That is an absolutely adorable update. Well done you. My only note for your final ensemble is blue eyeliner and white nail polish? - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
The trick is to test it on something you won't be heartbroken to lose. This sweater cost less than $20, so while a loss would be unfortunate, it's not like I paid a lot for it 🙂
It turned out great! When you reinforced the cut line with your machine did you have to adjust the tension? Can you Kitchener without chanting the steps out loud? Give your growing babies lots of love from me. My senior girl was just diagnosed with lymphoma and I'm super bummed.
I'm so sorry to hear of your kitty's lymphoma! Extra pats and cuddles for that one! I didn't adjust my stitch tension, but only because my Pfaff seems to have a pretty good tension on its own. And yes...as the big bucket of sock yarn leftovers might indicate, I can Kitchener like a boss 🤣
This sweater looks much better!
Och having a purl edge to crochet into is so so clever, so tidy, and it all looks so lovely.
Definitely a happy coincidence 😃
It makes the whole sweater prettier. Fashion sense AND personality!
😊
This was such a clever transformation. And the way you handled that steek so it was all neat and tidy!! So satisfying 😁
Thank you so much, Claude! Makes me just a bit more confident I can handle a stranded steek when it eventually happens😃
I approve. You look wonderful! You perform magic with those knitting needles. Glad you have a nice warm, chic sweater to wear with today's weather.
Thank you! I hope you stay warm and don't have to go anywhere in all that snow!
@@MaireColclough Only work 😁
Such a great fix and definitely feeling the 80s vibe.
Thank you! 😃
This fabulous! Thank you for sharing the process with us. Now I can be brave enough to address a couple Not Quite Right knits. Thank you!
You are so welcome! 😃
Teen Wolf YES!!!
Nicely done. I love sweaters.
Thank you so much! 😃
Love how it turned out! 💗

Awesome fix ❤

Knitting is just making loops out of loops. Seriously, once I wrapped my brain around that, it got a LOT easier 😁
@@MaireColclough I will give it another try. I just love the patterns you can knit. I so want to be able to knit socks.
@@sherrysenf-mcginn7693 Socks are less difficult than most folks think. I've been meaning to do another sock video, so...soon 🙂
@@MaireColclough I am looking forward to it. 😊
That's a fantastic improvement! I wouldn't have thought of that fix!
Brilliant! I have a jumper with a similar Neckline (just with a zipper) and those are really comfy to wear. The colour of the yarn fits perfectly!
I considered a zipper! But eventually just figured I'd be better off with a little button and some bling 😉

Start with a sweater you won't be sad to lose if it doesn't work....but it will. 😃
I like the sweater better with the modifications! Very pretty!

That really turned out lovely! I will have to remember this when going through my sweaters this spring.
I now trends to look at commercial sweaters as a good start and decide if I have the energy to improve it from there 😉
