Oberyn is not from the east, rather the far south which is still in Westeros not Essos. There was a sort of land bridge that went to Essos from whence the Andals invaded Westeros. In desperation, the Children of the Forest caused "The Hammer of Waters" in an attempt to stop the new humans. This is now The Stepstones, a series of islands which had been this land bridge. That's the condensed version -;))
And Stepstones is featured in HotD, where the battle between Daemon and Crabfeeder took place. Also, i've read from GOT pages that it's actually not uncommon people thought that Dorne is from east rather than south. Maybe because it was shown that people travel by ships from King's Landing to Sunspear (Dorne's capital), and vice versa. Which is actually better and shorter route than traversing mountains and deserts via Kingsroad, if you look at the map of Westeros.
Did you just use "whence" in a sentence or did you copy and paste? Dornes still on the East side of the south. And it looks like Spain so I get why she would think that. Even tho they shot Dorne in North Ireland
I’m pretty sure it was the First men that used the land bridge to Westeros, not the Andals. The Andals left Ándalos on boats and sailed to/invaded the Vale. Also the Andal invasion is supposed to mimic the Saxon and Angle migration/invasion of Britain and their subsequent displacement of the Gaelic and Brythonic inhabitants
I forgot how much more interesting the wildlings are in the books. The Thenns, Hornfoots, Ice River Clansmen. The Old Tongue. They all just seem like a single culture in the show.
@@Sinewmire Funny enough the Thenns are the most “civilized” group of Wildling’s in the books but in the show they’re portrayed as deprived cannibals. I get that the writers needed to have villains section of the Wildings but they picked the polar opposite of cannibals 😂
@@TimeBoy180 Yeah. I guess they wanted to contrast the wierd and unpleasant side of the wildlings with the charismatic and likeable Tormund, Ygritte and Mance. "This is freedom. Nobody said it would be nice."
Fun little detail, as Oberyn said at 16:14 there is a poison that causes fatal constipation, awful way to die, and in the books, that poison is missing from pycell's inventory, and with tywin being in the toilet in the middle of the night, the reasoning is Oberyn managed to poison him before the fight with the mountain, so in a way Tyrion killing his father was a mercy killing, what Oberyn had reserved for him was a horrible death.
@@KlTRA That's a commonly held assumption yes. To support it some more, Oberyn had no reason to come to king's landing if he just wanted to kill the Mountain, since Gregor was only called to King's landing after Tyrion demanded a trial by combat, which Oberyn couldn't have known before coming to the capital and before Joffrey died. So the theory is that Oberyn planned to kill Tywin after he came to King's landing, be blamed for it, demand a trial by combat, and then fight the Mountain. Making him able to kill the two ppl he wants dead simultaneously and get away with it.
@@ClownBaby893You are correct. However, it appears to be very likely. Something else that they don’t really delve into in the television show, but makes this whole thing a little more likely, is that in the books Tywin’s corpse smells unusually foul. It becomes a real issue at his wake and funeral. The poison that Oberyn was rumored to have used causes the persons bowels to shut down. So that detail adds to the suspicion.
Another side effect of the poison is a foul stench emitting from the body after death. A smell much different than normal rot. Coincidentally Tywin has this smell at his viewing.
The "Oberyn is from the East" line made me think it's far past time for you guys to google the map of Westeros and study it a bit. You can even make some content for the channel out of it, but more importantly - you'll have more context and better understanding of the relationships between different regions
They have had a map since season 1. I provided them with the official canon world map from the lands of ice and fire that even shows main roads and cities.
Wanting so much more out of Oberyn just shows how good of a job they did with him. No matter how great or suave or just a man is, they’re still just human and can have their life snuffed out in an instant. That’s what makes the show so good. Everyone is at risk at any moment. It really doesn’t matter how liked they are.
1:10:44 It's very simple, Pudgey. Robert was about to become king after unseating House Targaryen. If any Targaryens survived, it's very likely that they would want revenge. That's why Elia Martell & her children were killed. Dany and her brother escaped. Her mother was still pregnant with her when they left King's Landing. Had they been caught, even if the war for Robert was already won, they would have still been killed.
its not realy about survivors wantign revenge...its more about....the question of sucession and some house may in the future go with someone else..many times in history u have "pretenders to the throne" who make a claim...and they cause huge wars.....so by killing anyone who has claim u do it no because yoru worried about revenge ...although i guess u can say that....its more about does the dondarions or daynes or whoever amongst thousands of fuedal vassles......support
They should’ve read some medieval history or played Crusader Kings before getting into the asoiaf universe. They keep not understanding very basic things like this.
A true warrior would not fear the shadow of an unborn child, but welcome the battles to come once his enemies grew to adulthood. Robert hated the Targaryens because his hate did not die with Rhaegar, revenge brought him no satisfaction. He understood that it was practical, but that still is out of character for Robert. I don't doubt that the bodies of the children haunted him for the rest of his life, drinking and fucking away the images to no avail. By that point, he wanted to punish himself. Besides Lyanna, Robert only loved his strength and battle so he denied himself those pleasures.
@@robertphillips213 Not making any excuses for Robert, but he also didn't order the murder of Elia and her children. It's almost certainly what he wanted but he didn't give the order. He appreciated that it was done.

Tywin sent the Mountain to do this because the Lannisters did not take sides in the war until the Battle of the Trident when Robert killed Rhaegar. When it became clear that the Targaryens would lose, he wanted to show loyalty to the new king and show the dead bodies of the heirs to the throne from the previous dynasty
There's a popular theory that Oberyn had poisoned Tywin with widow's blood (which causes constipation) which was why Tywin was stuck on the toilet. Because of this, Tywin might have died regardless of what Tyrion did. One piece of evidence that points to this is, in the books, Pycelle reports his widow's blood missing, and accuses Tyrion of taking it (though obviously Tyrion didn't).
It'd make more sense for Varys to have done it. Then Oberyn, a man known to have hated the Lannisters and being skilled with poisons would have been in the capital when Tywin was poisoned. That would have potentially thrown the Throne and Dorne against each other.
@@Laketwigthat is true,Oberyn poisoned Tywin during a meeting where there was also Mace Tyrell,he used Widow's Blood which starts to show the effects after some time. Tywin had problems because his intestine was blocked, which is the way Widow's Blood kills. After his death his corpse smelled much more than a regular corpse because the muscle of his intestine were finally relaxed. So Oberyn fought with the Mountain fully conscious that Tywin was already a dead man,all he had left to do was force Gregor to confess and then kill, therefore having his vengeance against the two men that commited atrocities against his sister and her children
@@niccologregorutti no. that meeting took place so far back i belive 20 chapters from the top of my head and he is completly fine during that breakfast until his death. All his organs arent even in his body at his cermony to begin with and he is stuffed with fragrances and inscene. They wanted tywin alive to witness the fall of his house and legacy he worked towards as stated. The reason why tywin's body stinks is because tywin is is full of shit figuratively and literly. Tywin is revaled to be just a facade of what he projects himself to be. Cold,Noble,Rational but as turns out he isnt. Tyrion reflects all the bad in tywin which is why he hates him and thats why Tywin dies shitting himself on the toilet murdered by his son in complete disgrace.
I'm not sure where or when exactly but at some point in the series someone pointed out the obvious: We didn't build a 300 foot high wall to keep men out. The wildlings were not really the enemy, they just became something for the watch to busy themselves with as the threat of the white walkers returning diminished and was all but forgotten.
The video about the Maesters reflects Qyburn's opinion, who has been expelled from the order. We have known Maester Luwyn (at Winterfell) and Maester Aemon (at the Wall) and they are very nice and wise men, who help a lot the people in their castles. The Maesters do learn a lot and are more or less scientific about it; it's only on the matters of dealing with dead people (in order to bring them back to life - the matter that interests Qyburn the most) where they draw a line and prefer that curiosity to disappear. It's exactly the kind of thing that makes Qyburn so creepy.
It was weird seeing P getting so completely taken in by Qyburn that she's actually cheering him. But then he was one of Locke's men and we know how far off base they were with him :D
Both Aemon and Luwyn were wise but also indoctrinated into their order and passed their biases onto other people. Let's not forget how Luwyn tried to shy Bran away from mystical explanations toward more practical ones. Which is fine on one hand but also shutting off other ways of thought.
Qyburn is kinda like the Josef Mengele of Westeros. He might have a scientific curiosity, but he has no morals or scruples at all and doesn't shy away from experimenting on living humans in rather sick ways... But I don't remember if that was pointed out in the show like it was in the books.
I say this every time you watch one of these, but these History and Lore videos really amplify the story and shows where the characters are coming from. It's great that you're watching and every Game of Thrones fan/reactor should watch these.
No Bronn is not right. Bronn just has a big mouth. Because he has the perspective of someone that needed to survive. The Kingsguard used to be a force to be reckoned. Jofrey's Kingsguard was selected out of convenience to the Lannisters. With the exception of legendary Barristan Selmy who left. Aerys' Kingsguard was the last formidable one and its members would make Bronn shit himself and run for his life.
I love that you do the history and lore reaction basically no one else does so ot sets you apart from the herd but also your right it does enhance your experience and knowledge on the reactions
Hearing about the masters is interesting. We'll learn a little more about them on the show but this is a nice background. Dark Sister is the sword Daemon Targaryean uses in HotD. Princess Nymeria of Dorne that burned all the ships was who Arya named her wolf after.
I just saw Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) few days ago in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. I didn't think that was him at first but later that night it was confirmed that's really him, I wish I had asked for an autograph or taken a picture with him.
When you look back, you'll see lots of similarities between Jaime and Bran. Both grew up hearing the tales of the great warriors and knights and dreamt of being one of them. Jaime actually did, but all it got him was dishonor and infamy. He was too young and naive, he didn't understand the way of the world. Bran's dream died before he even got a shot. Thrown from the tower by a Kingsguard himself and left a cripple. Now his journey will take him to dangerous and unknown places. As much as characters like Sansa can be said to be naive, foolish, romantic and idealistic, Jaime was too when he was a teenager. Over time, everyone of them learnt the truth behind the tall tales and the sweet songs instead. To hear Jaime tell it now, there was no glory in being a Kingsguard, just broken vows and the hidden (and not so hidden) sneers and judgement of the people who knew what he did to his king.
Just pointing out something very specific, Oberyn and Cersei’s conversation wasn’t just about kids being hurt, Cersei was specifically pointing out that girls get hurt in this world because they are effectively “less than” than boys/men, her words were “everywhere they hurt little girls” and she feared her daughter was gonna be another little girl hurt and used as a pawn as this world often does to girls, just like the Lannisters were doing with Sansa when she was hostage at King’s Landing. It’s why Cersei doesn’t believe Oberyn when he says they don’t hurt little girls in Dorne. She can’t believe anyone in this world can be kind.
When you guys look back on this series years from now you'll realize it all comes back to Robert's Rebellion and... some other people. So many people had to die over nothing.
But Robert's Rebellion comes down to the War of the Ninepenny Kings and the Defiance of Duskendale. And the prophecy of TPTWP from the wood's witch, which resulted in Summerhall. Which is from Egg unexpectedly becoming the king, when his own father Maekar unexpectedly became king. And on and on back to Aegon's Conquest, and the Doom, and the rise of Valyria itself, from the shadoe of Asshai and the Great Empire of the Dawn. See... it's all connected 🤯
I mean as much as i love your interest in the subject matter you drew your own conclusions about summerhall unless he has secretly published that i dont know about
Tormund is a champion bragger btw; that tale of cutting open a giant, living inside her, then being suckled by her then becoming her lover before escaping, was pure Tormund braggadocio. I'm surprised that neither S nor P called BS on that exceedingly tall tale.
1:05:08 Dont know if you read these, but may I suggest you two read "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" it is a collection of 3 short stories set in-between the shows of Got and HotD. They are essentially stand alone stories that are easy to read and fun, focusing on the young knight, Ser Duncan (and his squire) many many years before he becomes a King's Guard. It will fill in some of the history but won't ruin either show because of the time it is set in.

@@LauraGS564 It's really stupid that some keep talking about spoilers! GoT came BEFORE HOTD fer crying out aloud. Anything in there can't possibly be a spoiler as it is set after any possible prequel. So you are right!
@Gryze It doesn’t matter that GoT aired before HoTD. There are still spoilers in GOT for HOTD. Spoiler doesn’t mean which story was told first, it means the story is told and ruins the ending or any surprising outcomes. That Joffrey scene was a spoiler, the upcoming Shireen scene, not so much.
In the books, Tywin's corpse was rooting and smelling foully in the Sept, and he was in the bathroom when Tyrion bolted him, having problems with taking a dump.. there's a theory that he was already poisoned by the Tears of Lys, and if Tyrion didn't shot him, he would die all the same.
@@MrCzerillo Well I doubt they would bring it in the show, since they butchered entire Dorn arc, and it was Dornish who probably poisoned Tywin. So his rotting corpse would not make any significance in the show.
Except that video starts with the death of Viserys. The first season material is just two minutes at the beginning. It will spoil the rest of the series
I appreciate you guys doing this. Even though I've seen the show many times and read the books many times, I don't think I've ever seen this content. Just a few points. With regard to the Thenns from the show, the show really did them dirty. They are not depicted as cannibals and crazy creepers in the books. They are noble people who live in harsh conditions and are super tough, but not the way they are in the show. Good job Spartan on pronouncing Qyburn it was perfect.
Oberyn died due to refusing to wear a helmet. The actor's next famous role in the Mandalorian was a man who refused to ever remove his helmet and wore full body-armor all the time. I always thought it would be amusing if it were the same soul born into another life within another galaxy, especially since skills with a spear are rarely mastered in Star Wars yet the Mandaloran proved himself highly skilled with such an unusual weapon which he was unlikely to have been trained in; as he did not use it regularly until finding a spectacular example of a spear. Also, the spear was the symbol of House Martell and was later combined with the Rhoynish sun to form their current sigil; the sun is a star. He used a spear while warring among the stars. I believe it is just coincidental, but it is an amusing series of events that sort of, well, rhyme.
BTW I believe in the books, after Oberyn's death, the Lannisters sent the Mountain's head to Dorne as a gift to avoid war. (and Qburn basically gave him another head lol)
Also, I like these because they give audience to the supporting characters narrations. Plus, extra cheddar $$$ and exposure. I've never heard of these actors before GoT. Launched some careers.
It’s interesting to hear the contempt in Pycelle’s voice when taking about dragons. There’s a theory that the maesters had a conspiracy that eventually led to the death of all the dragons in Westeros
"You're hurting me," they had heard Rhaella cry through the oaken door. "You're hurting me." In some queer way, that had been worse than Lord Chelsted's screaming. "We are sworn to protect her as well," Jaime had finally been driven to say. "We are," Darry allowed, "but not from him."
I agree to a degree with Bronn about the Kingsguard - well, talking about the kingsguard of Joffrey but the Targaryen kings had kingsguards of legend status. They're the best of the best, especially those of the first Targaryen kings. Joffrey's kingsguard soiled the name.
The Thenns are something they changed a ton in the series. In the books they are weird or freaky. Don't eat people and are pretty civilized, with a real social structure, cohesion and civility. They aren't cannibals and are more organized and disciplined.
"I still don't get *why*" From Twyin's perspective, he knew that Robert would never be safe whilst there were Targaryens alive, and that Robert would have to kill those children, but would also be disgusted at the necessity. Tywin showed his new allegiance decisively, and did the dirty work so that Robert didn't have to. He also made a good try at ending Aery's line, and he'd been in a cold war with Aerys since the two fell out.
In Storm of Swords, Tywin explicitly tells Tyrion he only wanted the children, not Elia. “Because I did not tell him to spare her”. He even planned to have Ser Gregor executed by the Kings Justice to appease the Martell after the duel.
Thats not it. Tywin was butthurt Aerys refused to marry Cersei to Rhaegar along with other things Aerys did. Tywin got his revenge on Aerys by killing his grandchildren and what he really wanted Lannister blood on the Iron Throne. Robert was a total scumbag who wouldnt have cared about murdering little kids himself, if he wasnt something would have happened to Lorch & Gregor after.
@09hicktown Tywin says it himself. He'd essentially sat the war out, and needed to decisively show himself to on team Robert, and whilst Robert didn't mind the death of the children, it's hard to see him doing it himself. Yes, having Cersei marry the king was also a political coup for him.
Tywin doesn’t care about anyone who’s not a Lannister so I completely disagree he had Aegon & Rhaenys killed “for” Robert, he had them killed because they deserved it for being Aerys grandchildren by Elia Martell. Robert was too lazy to do anything himself but considering how gleeful he was about Aegon, Rhaenys and Elias fates he would have made an exception because their relation to Rhaegar. I wish the show would have stopped pretending Robert was a hero when he was clearly anything but
@@DavidCarradinesBelt he did it for Robert knowing it would further the Lannister cause, so in a way he did it for himself. He did it to cement House Lannister as allies to the Baratheon throne. Robert wasn't lazy in those days, though he was badly injured.
I like you guys doing these back histories, I've never read the books nor to I plan to so it's cool hearing all the details...oh and uh Spartan, wow you look amazing in a tank top 😊
You may not like Maester Pycelle but he is maester while Quburn is sadistic fanatic who is fascinated what is inside human body he uses humans to experiments and what he can make out of it thats why he was thrown out of Old Town and he couldn't become maester because his practices were scary .
"The Book of Brothers, informally called the White Book, is the tome that records the deeds of every knight who has ever served in the three hundred year history of the Kingsguard." ... THIS will come into scene in... the future!... "Each knight who has been made a member of the Kingsguard since the reign of King Aegon I Targaryen has a page within the book DETAILING HIS DEEDS. On the top left-hand corner of the page his personal or family arms are drawn while at the bottom right-hand corner are the arms of the Kingsguard." :)
Oberyn did not expect to die, HOWEVER he did prepare for it. He wanted revenge for his sister and wanted to poison Tywin and The Mountain which he actually did. It is much better described in the books but Tywin is very clearly poisoned by the poison which was described in this video, the one that prevents a person from deficating until they die (That is why Tywin was in the toilet, he had been trying to go but couldn't and was going to eventually slowly die regardless of Tyrion. Ironically Tyrion shortened Tywin`s suffering and gave him a quick but disgraceful death. ) Oberyn's original plan was to poison Tywin and when he was charged for his murder to defend himself in a trial by combat against the Mountain which he would then poison with a single nip of his spear regardless if he won or lost. It did not go according to plan but ultimately he did achieve his goal, poisoned both and got his revenge. p.s. Even though Oberyn came to the show late and left early he is probably the biggest schemer in the books. His plans and schemes go as far back as before Roberts rebellion and continue way after his death. Sadly they are not explored in the show but are still vital to the outcome of the books. When you finish with the show you can watch commentaries and/or lore videos on them.
Dorne is a very interesting place. Not in the east, by the way, but in the very south of Westeros. It has a lot of similarities to the North, both being fairly inhospitable (snow in the North, desert sands in Dorne), and neither one being conquered through warfare by the Targaryens. The Starks decided to bend the knee of their own free will, while Dorne married into the Targaryens much later on when Daeron II (Daeron the Good) married Myriah Martell. By the way, Daeron II and Myriah Martell are Maester Aemon's grandparents.
It's interesting how you guys look so positively on a character that has already been shown to be at the very least a guy who wants to dabble in raising the dead, and at the most a Dr. Frankenstein. And against Maesters like Aemon and Lewin, who are more commonly the way Maesters are, not Pycelle. ESPECIALLY since he's basically a tool of Cersei's! It's odd.
Everything's right apart from the Stark's Free will part. Dude😂, they literally Assembled their Entire Army to go to War with the Targaryen, then they shit their pants when they saw the Dragons and their Mighty host, and chosen a Cowards path by bending the Knee. Hence the Name - The King who Knelt..... Hell, even their own Bannermen resented Torrhen for his incompetence... I get it he doesnt want to burn, but still it is Cowardice at its finest for a Guy who came for War...
@@dineshbalu6107 exactly this, it buffles me how many people see Torrhen bending the knee as some honorable deed, that he overcame his pride for his people, while dude literally bent instead of protecting his land and the rights of his people from some foreigners

@@nickrubin7312 It's crazy how many people don't realize that. It's almost like they forget the entire point of Jaimes themes. I'm only posting a comment about the Kingsguard and my two absolute favourites Ser Arthur Dayne (The Sword of the Morning) and Ser Barriston Selmy (Barriston the Bold) in my opinion the two best fighters the Seven Kingdoms have ever seen.
Absolutely agree, strong argument for Arthur Dayne to be the best fighter in Westeros ever. Problem is we don't have alot of feats. only really the smiling knight which is still incredibly impressive.
Personally I dig these reactions. I hope you go one step further and react to some of the comedy vids like GoT: The Musical(featuring Coldplay and many of the actors) is classic.
Oberyn had poisoned Tywin, Widow’s Blood which he describes in the poisons is the one he used… why Tywin was constipated on the privy when Tyrion put a crossbow bolt through his gut and discovered that Tywin did not, in fact, shit gold.
You're quite right about the wildlings and the people in Westeros because the wall was inspired by Hadrian's wall which was built by the Romans to defend their british province against the barbarians from Scotland. But i'd say that the people from the iron islands are most like the Vikings but past their prime since Aegon burnt down Harrenhall
If either of you like to read, Tales of Dunk and Egg is a fun series of short novels that feature a Trial by Seven, and give you a little more on hedge knights, it’s a great read!
Shae might have been Dornish. Maybe she was one of Oberyn's bastard daughters. Pay attention to the condition Tywin was in when Tyrion killed him. It is possible Shae or Oberyn poisoned him. Recall the effects of one of the poisons Oberyn listed.
Many Targaryens fell victim to "bad bellies" , which is Maester speak for poisoning by Tears of Lys. Why would Lord's and Kings allow maesters to keep bottles these vile poisons on hand?

Why isnt the winds of winter out yet…………😢
Did you just use "whence" in a sentence or did you copy and paste? Dornes still on the East side of the south. And it looks like Spain so I get why she would think that. Even tho they shot Dorne in North Ireland
I’m pretty sure it was the First men that used the land bridge to Westeros, not the Andals. The Andals left Ándalos on boats and sailed to/invaded the Vale. Also the Andal invasion is supposed to mimic the Saxon and Angle migration/invasion of Britain and their subsequent displacement of the Gaelic and Brythonic inhabitants
@@Kenneth_James Dorne is still in the far south and it's peninsula stretches eastward into the sea

I forgot how much more interesting the wildlings are in the books. The Thenns, Hornfoots, Ice River Clansmen. The Old Tongue. They all just seem like a single culture in the show.
They at least brought Thenns in, though they mixed in some cannibalism.
These groups are mentioned in the show, but only in passing.
@@TimeBoy180 They should have used The Weeper, talk about a creepy fucker.
House Martell is from the south. Also Robert's Rebellion is one of the most important events in the GoT history so you'll always be hearing about it.
So if tyrion hadn't killed Tywin he would have died anyway due to the poison? He was already poisoned when he was on the toilet that eventful night?
@@KlTRA It's a popular fan theory, but by no means absolutely confirmed.
@@suddenimpulse030 good job👍🤝
Wanting so much more out of Oberyn just shows how good of a job they did with him. No matter how great or suave or just a man is, they’re still just human and can have their life snuffed out in an instant. That’s what makes the show so good. Everyone is at risk at any moment. It really doesn’t matter how liked they are.
I agree, I guess some people just don't like that realism.
Until later seasons. Then it becomes “the plot armor is strong with this one”
The crazy thing is one of the knights Jaime idolized was Duncan The Tall, who Brienne is descended from. That's why she is so tall.

"My name is Oberyn Martel, you killed my sister, prepare to die!"
I could listen to Varys and Oberyn read the entire set of Game of Thrones books. Their voices are great at keeping my attention.
Yes please, I love Oberyns accent and Varys way of speaking

One piece of evidence that points to this is, in the books, Pycelle reports his widow's blood missing, and accuses Tyrion of taking it (though obviously Tyrion didn't).
thats all bull
Oberyn accused Tywin out in the open. He wanted Tywin's downfall to be slow and painful. Doesnt make sense for him to give Tywin the fast way out
It'd make more sense for Varys to have done it.

700 ft. Jon mentioned the height of it.
I mean isn't what most biotech firms are doing today, "curing" cancer with modern technology?
Qyburn is kinda like the Josef Mengele of Westeros.
He might have a scientific curiosity, but he has no morals or scruples at all and doesn't shy away from experimenting on living humans in rather sick ways...
But I don't remember if that was pointed out in the show like it was in the books.
1:07:48 This is what was on the page that Rhaenyra tore out in House of the Dragon.
Aerys' Kingsguard was the last formidable one and its members would make Bronn shit himself and run for his life.
yup the tv show really glamorized Bronn. Jaime would have snipped his head off in 10 seconds.
Blackfyre rebellions are literally the best part of ASOIAF for me, how I wish you could find out more about this.

Hearing about the masters is interesting. We'll learn a little more about them on the show but this is a nice background. Dark Sister is the sword Daemon Targaryean uses in HotD. Princess Nymeria of Dorne that burned all the ships was who Arya named her wolf after.
The hottest sand snake is also named Nymeria
I just saw Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) few days ago in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. I didn't think that was him at first but later that night it was confirmed that's really him, I wish I had asked for an autograph or taken a picture with him.
WOW 😮
I love your reactions to the history and lore videos. Please keep them coming!
Despite of the arid landscape, Dorne seems like the best place of Weteros to live freely
I mean as much as i love your interest in the subject matter you drew your own conclusions about summerhall unless he has secretly published that i dont know about

they didnt die for nothing. they died to stop a king who had gone totally insane and started burning people alive for fun

Tormund is a champion bragger btw; that tale of cutting open a giant, living inside her, then being suckled by her then becoming her lover before escaping, was pure Tormund braggadocio. I'm surprised that neither S nor P called BS on that exceedingly tall tale.
My favourite words from the houses have got to be, "When the snows fall and the wind blows, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives."

In the books. Not sure there is any mention of a smelly corpse in the show. Although during the trial Pycell mentions missing poisons.
@@MrCzerillo Well I doubt they would bring it in the show, since they butchered entire Dorn arc, and it was Dornish who probably poisoned Tywin.

I love how much Pudgy hates Pycell. I always hear "Sneaky Snake" now....
BTW I believe in the books, after Oberyn's death, the Lannisters sent the Mountain's head to Dorne as a gift to avoid war. (and Qburn basically gave him another head lol)
Or didn't. Bran in his green dream only saw black blood under his helmet.

Thank the gods for Pudgey
In the book there is a tyrion charapter where he talk to tywin about how the children died. Tywin tell is chilling
HBO was going to do a GoT prequel about Nymeria and House Martell, called Ten Thousand Ships. Unfortunately they shelved that recently.
I agree to a degree with Bronn about the Kingsguard - well, talking about the kingsguard of Joffrey but the Targaryen kings had kingsguards of legend status. They're the best of the best, especially those of the first Targaryen kings. Joffrey's kingsguard soiled the name.
“I don’t want your praise”😂😂
The Thenns are something they changed a ton in the series. In the books they are weird or freaky. Don't eat people and are pretty civilized, with a real social structure, cohesion and civility. They aren't cannibals and are more organized and disciplined.
"I still don't get *why*"
From Twyin's perspective, he knew that Robert would never be safe whilst there were Targaryens alive, and that Robert would have to kill those children, but would also be disgusted at the necessity.

While Pudgey looks amazing in anything. Lol
Why do you not plan to read the books? A mind needs books like a sword needs a whetstone, if is to keep its edge.
You may not like Maester Pycelle but he is maester while Quburn is sadistic fanatic who is fascinated what is inside human body he uses humans to experiments and what he can make out of it thats why he was thrown out of Old Town and he couldn't become maester because his practices were scary .
How about theyre both scum for different reasons?
@@nickrubin7312 Exactly, ikr....
@@dineshbalu6107 Well, when the odds are so much against the army, that they are all going to die for nothing, I think it's wise that the commander in charge (the King in this case) surrenders, so that he saves his men's lives. They didn't know any way to fight against the dragons.
Tormund is hilarious 😂
I am enjoying watching these stories before seeing the episodes of the season. I hadn’t done that before.
I wait for these at the end of every season
31:06 , That's AEGON IV Targaryen , The unworthy. She's not talking about AEGON "the conqueror".
I really like these histories episodes. I haven’t watched so it’s fun to see them.
When Jamie was reading the Kings Guard section I felt like I was watching an Avengers/Justice League movie
I love that you watch the lore videos. ❤️
Gonna watch the video but before I do I have to ask, you guys didn't possibly think this was going to be such a big part of your life.
Its their job bro. They're watching the Lore videos because their fans asked them too.
@@Gnossiene369 it is a job. They make money doing it. It’s a job.
@@Gnossiene369 from one of the community posts on this channel "....jeopardises our ability to keep this channel as our part-time and hopefully soon... full-time jobs. So protecting the value we provide there is important to the longevity of the channel. "
they literally call it a job
not trying to offend you, so please don't be, seriosly, it's just in good spirit banter question, but you're a bit disneyland minded, aren't you? you know where people have hobbies that they do for living, kinda hippy happy lifestyle, fancy youtuberish sort of type, aey?
@@Gnossiene369 They literally said it was a job.
@@Gnossiene369 They only work part time because they went part time for this and intend to eventually go full time on it. Most reactors wouldn't bother if it weren't for patreon and the (smaller) amount they get from youtube because it takes many hours to react and edit each video (and re-edit if copyright/youtube problems)
One thing tho george has said that Elia’s and Rheagar’s marriage was a political one and he called it as a complicated marriage but that there was fondness there, not love. I don’t know why they say that she actually loved him. Political marriages were quite normal in the world of a song of ice and fire. Besides that we don’t know anything more actually. Can’t wait for the last two books to come. I don’t care if we get disappointed I just want the story to finish so badly
It's interesting that they made Oberyn say that poisoning someone at a table bores him in this lore video. Since in the books...
You book readers have been cringe since 2011
I love these!
I hope if you read the books that you will also read the Dunk & Egg Novellas. The mentioned Ser Duncan the Tall in the season 4 Lore. It's a fun read! It will give more weight to the lore episode and to the Knighthood if you understand the context.
You mentioned Tycho Nestoris in the reaction today... Yes, you have met him with Stannis and Davos. Go back and watch that episode so you can place his voice and face.
It is so good you are watching and reacting to these. I know that the information is helping you to follow what happens in the GOT episodes and I believe it will help you in HOTD ging forward too. Though your mods are tipping you off to spoilers in HOTD they are seemingly not tipping you off to the BlackFyre spoilers. They should be because It is rumored that the HOTD series is going to be an Anthology that will possibly cover both Aegons conquest AND the BlackFyre rebeliion. So.... There's that.
Yes but if they get to that it will be in 10 years or something. What’s the point in avoiding spoilers for a decade? They will read the books soon anyway.
lol we are gonna meet aerion brigthflame who drank wildfire in the prequel next year knights of the seven kingdom I can’t wait
Should watch Tywin and Pycelle Deleted scene (fishing) with all it entails.
Will you do the Game of Thrones Musical sketch with the actual cast, coldplay, and Liam Neeson?
Um he crippled a child. I’m pretty sure that equals to soiling The White Book😂
And he went against the Kingsguard vows. And he killed his king. 💀
@@dreamfyre3868 "so many vows, they make you swear and swear..."
@@nickrubin7312
It's crazy how many people don't realize that. It's almost like they forget the entire point of Jaimes themes.
He's a character trapped between so many different conflicting vows that he can't retain honor. And Brianne is just Jamie but without any of the hard aspects of honor, and I think one of her themes in the books will be facing the same choices Jamie did and seeing what she chooses.
59:20 ygritte actually told jon that story when they were in the cave :D
Did you guys intentionally try to match? Looking good guys :)
Oberyn had poisoned Tywin, Widow’s Blood which he describes in the poisons is the one he used… why Tywin was constipated on the privy when Tyrion put a crossbow bolt through his gut and discovered that Tywin did not, in fact, shit gold.
Theory.
"I'm never lost" 😂
You're quite right about the wildlings and the people in Westeros because the wall was inspired by Hadrian's wall which was built by the Romans to defend their british province against the barbarians from Scotland. But i'd say that the people from the iron islands are most like the Vikings but past their prime since Aegon burnt down Harrenhall
⚜️ Spartan has Qyburn's name pronounced correctly. Ky-burn
The Hound grabbed Brienne's Valyrian steel blade with both hands and kept both of them. Hmm...
If either of you like to read, Tales of Dunk and Egg is a fun series of short novels that feature a Trial by Seven, and give you a little more on hedge knights, it’s a great read!
In the books the giants are more like bigfoots, and are covered in fur instead of wearing clothes.
Shae might have been Dornish. Maybe she was one of Oberyn's bastard daughters. Pay attention to the condition Tywin was in when Tyrion killed him. It is possible Shae or Oberyn poisoned him. Recall the effects of one of the poisons Oberyn listed.
I'm here for 2 reasons
They do count LOL I watched them alone but they are even better watching them with you
its a funny thing that they show hows martel as a big militaristic guys but the truth is they havent won a offensive war since Nymeria.
Many Targaryens fell victim to "bad bellies" , which is Maester speak for poisoning by Tears of Lys. Why would Lord's and Kings allow maesters to keep bottles these vile poisons on hand?
Well...? How are you going to Poison your enemies without them?😂😂
