    Regarding the poisons, I believe that Pycelle and Qyburn more or less agreed that the Mountain had been poisoned with Manticore venom (the Manticore is the scorpion-like creature that the girl/warlock tried to kill Dany with). "The Strangler" was what was used on Joffrey. And Varys told Ned that he suspected the "Tears of Lys" in the case of Jon Arryn.

    To answer your question: Over the 8,000 year history of the Night’s Watch being founded, Magic/giants/white walkers have become folktales and not facts of life. So a majority of the world does not believe any of it exists. All the kingdoms except the north basically don’t believe the watch is anything but a place to send exiled people. Also, most in the north, believe there is honor to serve in the night’s watch, but it’s to guard the kingdom from wildling attacks not really anything to do with white walkers. So due to this, the night’s watch just isn’t what it used to be because no one believes a magical threat exists and it’s out of sight/out of mind for most of the seven kingdoms.

    Fun fact: You know what group of people are the most allergic to bees? Beekeepers. As a beekeeper when I started and got my degree in entomology, I didn't have an allergy. But, after 15 years of getting stung, you develop an allergy instead of building a resistance. I only mention this because of the Oberyn poison video.

    • @EmmyReacts
      @EmmyReacts  9 місяців тому +3

      Oooh that is interesting! Why do bee stings work this way?

    • @shinrapresident7010
      @shinrapresident7010 9 місяців тому +1

      @@EmmyReacts I genuinely have no idea. It might have to do with the fact during winters we aren't getting stung so the dosages from stings aren't constant and thus your body can't build a proper immunity.
      There's a famous king in history called Mithradates VI, he basically microdosed himself with every known poison and venom and essentially became unkillable haha. He was immune to everything.

    Re: Night's Watch - Long ago, it was widely regarded as a noble thing to serve with the Watch. In more recent times, it had lost the aura of glory that drew people to join. Very few volunteered, most of those from the North where they still valued it... Jeor Mormont, Benjen Stark, and now Jon Snow fall into that category. Most of those who now serve in the Watch are those with few or no better choices. Sons far down in the pecking order to inherit often wind up there (or at the Citadel to become Maesters), people who were disgraced in some way and see it as a way to regain their honor, or in many cases criminals who sometimes get the offer to serve the rest of their life at the wall in place of being thrown into the deepest dungeons or simply beheaded or hung. Many (mainly in the south) look at the current makeup of the watch personnel and consider it a haven for the discarded refuse of humanity (like Tywin) and have no respect for what it once was.

    One flight down
    There's a song on low
    And your mind just picked up on the sound
    Now you know that you're wrong
    'Cause it drifts like smoke
    And it's been there playing all along

    The reeds and brass have been weaving
    Leading into a single note

    17:33 To answer your question about the wildlings/free-folk. Westeros hasn’t seen white walkers for thousands of years, most southerns believe it to be nothing more but northern folktale, a myth. However the wildlings have been a problem for northerners for centuries, they constantly come down, lawless men okay with killing for food, raping and kidnapping women to have as wives, taking small villages and farmlands, and they don’t pay taxes to any lord or king. So of course northern lords, especially those close to the wall have to constantly come down to defend their common people and their lands. A culture of understanding the free folk are nothing but lawless evil wildlings coming to rape pillage kill and cannibalize you and your family became truth to these lords. When really most of the time they’re hungry I’ll outlaws with no home and an extremely different culture and understanding of life. Seeing the story through Ygritte’s perspective in the books really gives you an idea how starkly different free folk and northerners lives are. The only thing they really sure is blood and gods.

    • @bobydean1839
      @bobydean1839 9 місяців тому

      In short they see Free folk/wildlings as the true threat beyond the wall, not the northern myth

    Just to say 'The Dance of Dragons' wasn't about giant lizards waltzing and quick-stepping. "It was the dragons we bowed to," said someone in the North, "but now the dragons are dead!" He meant the people. . . .🐉🐲
