    Two comments:
    1. You should REALLY have an ongoing show with Alex. The mix between you 3 is unique and my FAVORITE interviews of Alex are all the ones from the Iced Coffee Hour, and I'm a follower of Alex. Also, Jack's questions (like the biceps one) were on point and very valuable, LOL. No but really, love this type of questions.
    2. The way you get Alex to speak in your podcast is very different from any other interview. The chillness he has, I haven't watched anywhere else. He just comes with this "I don't care" demeanor that I think lets us viewers see more of his true personality.

    After his futile search for the meaning of life, Solomon concluded, " ‘Vanity of vanities,’ . . . ‘Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.’ What profit has a man from all his labor in which he toils under the sun?" (Ecclesiastes 1:2-3).
    The word vanity Solomon used didn’t mean the same thing it means to us today. When we think of vanity, we think of people who’ve never met a mirror they didn’t like. But the vanity Solomon spoke of could just as easily be translated "emptiness," "futility," "meaningless," or "nothingness." Solomon was saying, "There is nothing on this earth that will satisfy us completely: no thing, no pleasure, or no relationship."
    You might say that Solomon tried it all, and he realized that it all was meaningless. He was saying, "I’m a seasoned pro. I know what I’m talking about here. If you take God out of the picture, your life will be empty, meaningless, and futile."

    • @DFletcher413
      @DFletcher413 4 місяці тому

      You could just as easily say that life is more meaningful without a God in the picture because your pragmatic enough to realize there is no God(because well.... there isn't. Let's be real here.) and there is no afterlife. That makes our time on Earth arguably more valuable than a religious person's.

    When Alex quoted 3 1/2 sets of respected business wisdom at minute 13, you just earned my 'subscribe'. I can clearly hear where he got his knowledge and start, which is unique to any other interview I've seen of Alex. His business moves are exactly time-proven generations correct, and it gives me perspective as to where I am compared to where he is . Clarification of his origin an linear process informed of some barriers he never experienced that slowed my progress, and seriously, good for him. His heart for wanting others to grow, but wanting and knowing they can do it themselves is genuinely heartening. We need more business minds like his and Mark Cuban who give a damn about people. Great interview!

    I was at the live call for 100M leads and it was incredible. I honestly was losing my mind trying to digest everything Alex said and I'm quite happy and also slightly sad to hear that there were people switching up on him when it sounded like he was going to sell something. I had a suspicion but then I would have just made sure I had the money to buy it later on if I couldn't then - when he offered it for free I knew then that there's a massive gift standing right there.
    The beauty of that is because that much value was given away for free, there will only be a small group of people that actually use that information because their own intrinsic value towards it wouldn't be as high compared to someone who paid a large amount of money towards it. Genius tactic there.

      People need to remove trauma from their vocab. Shit happens in life, get over it and keep progressing.

    • @schapermedia
      @schapermedia 5 місяців тому +32

      The simple definition of trauma is a deeply distressing experience. We aren't robots, so yes, trauma is real. Humans do have feelings. Being kidnapped, losing a loved one in death, being seriously betrayed by one or more trusted persons, etc are all deeply distressing experiences. I believe Alex is reasonable enough to admit trauma by definition exists. He seems to be advocating against allowing such events to paralyze us forever. He's also saying a narrative, or a label, around the event can help or hurt this cause.
      His straight-forward approach can lack empathy on the subject, but none of us are perfect communicators on all topics. To be clear, I agree with his perspective on not allowing an event to overtake you forever, but I'm balanced enough to know that if my daughter gets kidnapped or raped, the first thing I'm not going to say to her is "get over it".
      Trauma should be dealt with lovingly and empathetically, but not in a way that paralyzes the victim forever.

    • @biscaynesupercars
      @biscaynesupercars 5 місяців тому +1

      I think he’s basically saying good and bad events happen to everyone but how you respond to the event is on you. Some people have near death experiences and become anxious and scared of everything and other people use that as motivation and inspiration to explore and try new things. Also these days it seems like trauma is recklessly thrown around and used as an excuse to not try or as an excuse when they fail

    • @TheSleepbad
      @TheSleepbad 5 місяців тому +1

      @@schapermedia I think for kids there may be more need to empathize as they often dont understand. But I think if you talk to people you always find deeply distressing things in their life, but only a few keep suffer from the trauma. I find his ideas very powerful and I have a lot of own experience where it holds true. I had social aniexty from 12 to early twenties and probably because of two traumatic things I victimize myself. Later in life I was robbed on holidays while beaten up and a car acident,but with a positive strong mindset and both time people told me how horrible it must be and I should do therapy and I felt worse for a short period of time, but I did not took it and just accept it and made it a cool story in my life. No negative effect at all

    • @beatrizordonez1161
      @beatrizordonez1161 5 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, I agree with you all.
      I had some level of trauma when bitten by a mastiff mix. I knew it when my heart would start racing as any big dog approached or was around me. But I did make the decision not to give into the fear. The same thing happened after I got hit by a car when I was crossing the street. My heart started racing when I had to cross the street after my injury got better. But I made the decision not to give into the fear.
      Cheating is the worst trauma I have experienced. Real trauma takes time to heal from. You have to make decisions every day that'll get you free from it - but it's not something you can just get over, unfortunately. You have to rewire your mind & that takes a lot of work, esp the more traumatic the event.

    Alex's perspective on trauma seems to be working for him. However, we would be short-sited to apply this to all cases without discretion. I agree the narrative is highly important, but child-hood trauma in particular has huge impacts on health outcomes into adulthood. It would be unreasonable to expect a child to build a different narrative. Children don't have the ability.
    Therapy is the process by which we are taught how to build a different narrative. It isn't because someone told the child something bad happened. I had a number of child-hood traumatic events that I didn't understand were abusive, etc until I went to therapy for months. I also was completely unaware of the huge impact they were having on the underlying narrative in my head day to day. There was no opportunity for me to build a different narrative. I wasn't even aware of my own internal narrative. However all of it was affecting me significantly. Physical brain structures are built over years and not everyone can simply think differently. It is a huge process.
    To me labels are part of the process to changing. They give me the context to understand why my behavior in the past is not what I wish it was and help me embody different behaviors in the future. Nothing about my therapeutic experience has influence me to stagnate and have more problems.
    In the end my current beliefs and practice are not too different, philosophically, from Alex but I never would have gotten here without therapy.

    • @mrbubbles6468
      @mrbubbles6468 12 днів тому

      Sure and what does the therapy tell you to do and help you to do?

    I find it widely interesting that his perspective on the narrative he tells himself on actual facts is what determines how he will react emotionally. This applied to the trauma example he gave in comparison to his experience with his cat's death is that he will change the narrative to what will serve him best, negating the fact that an average cat's life is well.beyond 18 months. But like he said, if that works for him, it is justified. Interesting podcast

  • @GorzaanFan
    @GorzaanFan 5 місяців тому +26

    The problem with the trauma discussion is that Graham and Jack lack the knowledge to challenge Alex, making it easy for Alex to control the frame using sales tactics. Alex being a sales guy and a master manipulator took advantage of this.
    They could have delved into the involuntary anxiety and panic attacks experienced by people with PSTD. This isn't just a narrative. It’s a sign of the body being out of balance and in survival mode. Their mind associating certain cues in the environment with real danger, as proven by clinical studies and thousands of brain scans. There are certain emotions that they are addicted to and often not aware of. Simply telling someone having a panic attack "just change your narrative bro” doesn't cut it.
    Alex most likely has not experienced this and is oversimplifying it as changing perspectives. It’s important to change your perspective to overcome trauma, but it's not the initial step. There are several preceding steps. I agree the final ones involve changing beliefs and making new useful choices that serve the person the most.

    Great episode. Big fan of Alex, outside of his thoughts on trauma. As a therapist their conversation about it was making me cringe. His example of a 14 year old girl in the Middle Ages especially lol. It’s a dialectic meaning it is probably both- she is being a ‘good daughter’ for the time period, and is also absolutely likely traumatized. Trauma is a biological response in your body, not just in your head.
