So today we're testing making boba pearls without tapioca starch, and following a cornstarch boba recipe. i saw this and i quickly started making it. it wasn’t till after when i watched when you guys said it didn’t taste good. for my boba, it didn’t have a weird taste, just a weird texture. it tasted pretty good and when cooking the dough on the stove, it automatically became dough for me. also, i love you and your mom!

Yes but if you look in the gluten free section there is usually tapioca FLOUR not starch hope that helps 😁

I feel like the pearls are better when you add a flavor instead of water. (Like I used coffee instead of water ☕) Or cut up some strawberries and puree them and get the chucks out to use instead of water. (This method takes longer and requires a lot more gentle attention but it's also very good)
I randomly stumbled on your videos and now have a craving for boba. I'm having a boba-making fest with friends tomorrow, so that should help!
I actually tried boba without any starch at all! I mixed the water sugar and self raising flour and then added in a cup of normal plain flour! It was so easy and delicious.
Flour is mostly starch.

Using glutenous rice flour works! Especially if you want to make your own boba ice cream. It is basically brown sugar mochi :P.

Literally I tried making cornstarch boba a bunch of time! It ended up becoming like oobleck..so I just gave up and asked my mom to buy some tapioca starch😂🤣

since i have a vietnamese mom, we often have tapioca starch lol
See you take 1tb of brown sugar , 42ml of water and 3tb of cornstarch and mix well I added a bit of colour the keep on low heat and cook within two minutes for me it started to thicken . Then it will be a bit sticky so put it on a plate and knead it with a bit of cornstarch then cut into pieces and add into boiling water and cook until all are floating then strain the excess water and make brown sugar syrup and cook well until sticky and serve with your favourite tea ..
It happens a lot! I suggest using hot water and slowly mixing the starch

You may have to stir it more aggressively because of the cornstarch, it's a reaction where if it is let alone with liquid it is runny but if it is being forcefully moved it solidifies
Really appreciate this! So hard to find tapioca starch in the uk and I really wanted to see if it was worth trying what I can get at the supermarket which is cornstarch 😁 you explained the texture so perfectly 👌💕

I undercooked mine but it still worked pretty good I would recommend waiting until you can touch it without it getting stuck to your hands at all
Update: I mushed them all together and cooked an extra 15 minutes and it turned out great in future I would definitely add some flavor tho since it was pretty bland and wasn't absorbing the syrup like normal boba maybe I overcooked idk

Love your cooking recipe videos! Can you do a video on how to make flaky egg tarts and Hong Kong style milk tea at home? It's an underrated drink and I don't see why. It's a very unique milk tea that's strong and smooth when made right.
I wish I would have seen this before I spent my afternoon making this, it was not good! But the syrup was, I agree with you 100%!
when cornstarch is mixed with water (or any other liquid) it makes this cool solid/liquid consistency, its hard when u hit it or when u let it sit it melts!! super fun to play with
