The fact that she worked a full 8 hour shift AND put the effort into training the day before is why she is so amazing and such a role model! Also, props to Megan for being such an awesome instructor and going the extra mile for her store ♥️
kung fu tea is not a small chain they are like the mcdonalds of milk tea. they open up a store in an area and it causes actual milk tea small businesses to close down. this is just another PR stunt for kung fu tea to gain more notoriety in order to monopolize the industry and bully small businesses.
Safiya does not half-ass anything! Like she could've just been there handing out drinks or calling out orders but she dabbled into everything that goes behind the scenes in running a boba shop. And Megan is awesome. Such a good supervisor and she seems so professional, love a queen with a strong work ethic
Yes that is exactly why her videos hit different. Even the decades fashion videos. She literally does the most in everything. Also probably why the rewatch-ability of her videos is so high
@@sushreeshashwata That is so true about the re-watchability on her videos. I’m still entertained when I rewatch her videos that I’ve already seen before. They have such a comforting vibe!

I'm sure she wasn't expecting anyone to show up, but I'm curious as to what the sales actually were in comparison to what a normal day brought in. Must've been a reeeeally good day for the store by the looks of it!
honestly!! my local kung fu tea is always empty now after most kids from college aren’t near campus anymore! this was such a good idea, i love that she’s helping local businesses
I can't speak to what this particular shop is like now because I don't live in Charlottesville anymore, but in my experience there is NO ONE there when UVA classes are over. The last time I went was Memorial Day Weekend right before I moved and it was empty I was literally the only customer.
For reference a typical Saturday (which is already one of our peak days of the week) we hit about 200-300 drinks during this semester. On Safiya’s takeover day we hit a new record of 679 drinks sold!
@@meganwlin That's incredible!! I bet you all were exhausted that night haha. Thank you for swooping in with the answer, and I hope you raked in the tips (and bonuses perhaps)!!
My sister goes to UVA and was there when Saf was there. She FaceTimed me and I was able to talk to Saf and join in on a group picture! Thank you Safiya for being so nice!
i honestly appreciate how Safiya actually does what she signs up for instead of winging it or doing it half-heartedly, which is i feel like a common trend in videos that involve trying something new. its entertaining to watch people screw it up and make a mess but i find it way more satisfying to watch the goal of the video being achieved.
"the line kept respawning every few minutes" was me working retail all December. So glad to see you kept your head up all day! A positive outlook makes all the difference when your day feels overwhelming
That's one of the biggest things I admire about Safiya and her husband, Tyler. They clearly put a lot of effort and research into their videos and do their best to learn everything they can.
Props to Megan for the drink menu. Obviously Saf&Ty had a hand in the construction, but it takes real familiarity with the drink components AND this channel to be able to do that.
@@meganwlin Honestly, you're probably going to be thinking of *safty* drinks until the end of time 🤷🏼♀️ Perhaps they might consider another collab (of any sort-- maybe some crossover merch type of thing with the megan-imagined drinks written out all over it--?) I love how even though Safiya was probably a lil stressed all day she still took the time to say hi to everyone and take pictures 🥺 her and Tyler just seem like the sweetest people
As a Starbucks partner, this is honestly hilarious to watch because your level of frantic perfectly matches how most newer baristas feel when it gets busy. You did really well!!!
often videos from successful UA-camrs like “WE WORKED IN A STORE FOR A DAY?!?!!!??” are so obnoxious and tone deaf but this video is so sweet and respectful. Saf actually worked hard and cared about the customers and the drinks and wasn’t complaining or rude about it. Love the work

This was so much fun - I’m a student at UVA and my roommates and I took a break from doing our cell biology homework to get boba because we heard Safiya was coming, and she was absolutely the sweetest! Thanks for visiting our neck of the woods Safiya and Tyler, hope you enjoyed Charlottesville!!
I was so confused hahah, I also am a student at UvA, however, in the Netherlands (Universiteit van Amsterdam) so for a second I thought they were in the Netherlands… but no😅
@@shakibi952 Yeah what Delilah mentioned! - the local KFT’s ig page posted a few teaser type photos on their page saying someone popular was stopping by and then revealed it about a day prior, and news spreads fast among the student body here lol so we all got wind of the news and rushed over that day :)
I love how friendly Megan is,, she seems like she really likes her job not to mention she gets to share the experience with you, which you get to share it with us
one reason Safiya has so many followers is that she treats everybody with respect. she can give a negative review and still be respectfull. Megan can go anywhere. the sky is the limit, but not to her.
sorry but just like most people in these kinds of positions, she is most likely being exploited and will be because we are in late-stage capitalism and things won't change unless people riot
I love this brainstorming idea of basically that a local business reached out to you for support from a big platform. So much of that is needed for businesses after COVID, its incredibly heartwarming. I know Try guys is basically doing a series on that and its just really great seeing popular creators of the platform helping local businesses. This video is so cool to watch and I really hope you get the chance to do more of them!! And, honestly hoping that this kind of content doesn’t even die out after this pandemic is long and done.
@@144heartx its a huge chain, but the stores owned by families are still having a hard time staying open during covid. my family had a cold stone store that we ran, and we had to close it down a couple months ago. covid hit us SO hard, and we lost quite a lot of money. so i mean, they're supporting the owners more than the chain.
@@jazzyk02 No I think you misunderstood me haha, I'm surprised the owners reached out and asked her for this when they work for a large chain. My sister actually had something very similar happen at her café except (to some) on a smaller scale of importance and approach (more like a prank video) with two really popular tiktokers (Mattie Westbrouck and Canon Ryder). It was actually very fun to watch them film and they actually posted the video here on UA-cam, I think.
The fact that she did all this for content and not money is just so generous. It was probably so nerve-wracking but it seemed like her energy really gave life to this boba shop and these boba teas are so creative. I enjoyed every minute and second of this video. I never tried boba in my life so this inspired me to try it :)
@@bebenut123 I was gonna say the same thing… I mean, Kung Fu Tea didn’t literally pay her but she went there to make a video which in turn got 5 million views, which probably translates to a pretty penny. I wonder if she donated a percentage to this struggling business?
@@cradio52 at the end of the day, she’s a huge influencer who gave a small company a huge profit just by being there. They were busy non stop the entire day which really helped the store out for sure.

CAN RELATE (from a current Crumbl Cookie employee) we recently started getting timed on our dough balling and apparently people who were way too slow are getting fired so I’m constantly panicking
Props to Megan for her genius marketing tactic and for making this SUCH a fun experience, even just watching! Wish I could have made my way there to see but I’m on the west coast!
Kinda love how she highlights how difficult it is to work in customer service where you have to learn quick and everything is a nightmare lmao, I like that she left that in I live for that
literally!! You get one day of training and they expect you to remember everything the next day and not ask too many questions, then get annoyed when you don't do well lmao
I used to work at a boba shop and watching how other shops open and make the teas and toppings is really interesting. The "ice bags" are so genius. I know at the shop I worked at, what we did was put ice in the tea and used a large spoon sifter to take it out. The shaker machines are a lifesaver too haha. I remember having so much trouble when the store was flooded with customers and shaking the drinks was such a handful. The shaker machines would have come in handy. This store is definitely "higher class" when it comes to boba shops, especially with the plethora of drinks. must be fun to work there. I:^
It’s funny to hear Safiya’s ”customer service voice” when she’s calling people’s ordernumbers, I think it sounds so different compared to the video narration for example :D
I used to answer phone calls at office max when I worked there and I would use a customer service voice, I used it so much that one time outside of work my mom called me and I answered with a customer service voice and I didn't notice until my fiance pointed it out lol It becomes apart of you
Megan was pure awesomeness in this. I loved that she just went for it, got your guys' plan all set up, happily trained you guys, and even got people to get more supplies. She got a meet and greet for a bunch of people lol. I am glad you came up with this idea. It was so cool to see how Boba Tea is made and it looked busy, yet looked like a lot of fun. Also really glad this fun video got the place so much business and I bet even after you guys are done they still got a nice boost of new continuing costumers.
Dang, Megan deserved a bonus for this idea. It's really cool that Saf did this for only the video rights. And the shop will benefit greatly from the advertising I think, as well as l the people who want to go and meet Megan now. Lol.
I'm a student and working in a restaurant. Honestly Safyia, it felt like watching myself on my first day, also wasn't good at POS system. The way you guys showed the amount of work involved in these kind of jobs was great, really enjoyed it. And props to Megan and the rest of the staff!
THIS. This is exactly what I felt like when I first worked at a rolled ice cream shop, with an added on learning curve of learning how to make rolled ice cream 😂
I know you think you had a rocky start but that’s literally everyone’s first day at Starbucks, minus the crowd of adoring fans. Usually it’s a crowd of Karens in a hurry. You did fine. I owe so much to my barista mentor, she was the reason anything got made correctly, just like Megan. The cashier machine takes a couple of weeks to really get the hang of, especially for weird off menu requests.
Right? She had one day of training. Of course she isn't going to remember everything. I know I couldn't handle this job as I have severe anxiety and am a major klutz, so I would have a panic attack and probably end up spilling drinks on people. 😂 And while I don't base anyone's worth on their job or even if they work at all (since I think it's effed up that people are forced to pay/work to exist when they didn't choose to exist), I still give props to people who are able to do this type of thing.
Honestly this is exactly what retail and service is like during the Holidays 😭 Safiya dropped this at the right time to have every retail employees empathy
I love Safiya, and this is a compliment, truly - I really appreciate seeing how much she struggled with the POS system and making drinks during a rush. Because this is a minimum wage job and is showing the struggle and stress as well as the actual skills required for a job that pays for lack thereof.
When a job like this gets busy, it’s no joke, and needing to know how to do every position is so key. I just got out of food service after 10 years, and I also appreciate that she showed all facets of how it works. I want the “go get an easy job like McD’s” crowd to watch and realize it’s not as easy as you might think.
One of your best videos. It was amazing to see the amount of customers that showed up and were served. I hope that this event helped Megan's business in the long run. I have only had Boba one time and very much enjoyed it. I now have an appreciation of how much preparation goes into making the drinks from the tea prep in the morning to the concocting of the various drinks. All who worked there deserve praise for their hard work and cheerfullness.
i remember feeling so angry towards youtubers pretending to work customer service for a day and giving off rich entitled energy while getting in the way of everyone actually working. i know this trend kinda passed but this should be a case study in charisma: this is how you showcase the experience of customer service, the learning, making, failing and improving that comes with prep and serving of food, the frantic in the background, the problem-solving and teamwork. absolutely great video, great idea and initiative by megan and great narrative and storytelling as always by team safiya 🥰
i think it’s also great that they did this for a struggling business! i’m not sure how the shop is doing now but i hope they got more regular customers
uva grad student, can confirm we’re all required to be vaxxed and boosted! The line was out the door and down the block when Saf & Tyler were at kung fu (which is also a great shop even on a normal day). Hope y’all enjoyed Charlottesville!
WELCOME TO THE SERVICE INDUSTRY! Can we just attest to the fact that THIS is what most/all service industry employees are doing. It’s SO MUCH more than what you see. We work so hard to make the “illusion of convenience” for you. 🍵👍🏻
Megan handled training Saf and maintaining the rush while still being helpful so well! Hoping she can use this video on her resume to showcase her amazing management and teamwork skills! I've had managers who have years under their belt crack under pressure during rushes (which is fine we're all human) but her being so young and conducting everything so seamlessly with an air of liveliness is really refreshing! I know the shop made a lot that day! :D
As someone who works in food service. Its not expected of anyone to be perfect in one training session. And working every station in one day is really hard. You did awesome from what I saw. Getting help on making stuff isn't bad.
Definitely agree. Normally you would just be trained for one part and pick up the rest during slow times and then trained on something else another day. No matter what it is a ton of work though!
The level of detail and thought that went into the drinks and titles is ASTOUNDING! They really showed that they understood your content and wanted to connect with your audience🥰
Here’s an idea to justify the mixer: Fraken Boba that consists of every type of boba after trying weird combinations of different teas, coffees, and cheeses.
I love that no matter what Safiya tries, she does so respectfully. It’s really great seeing her trying out new things, and I look forward to the next videos in this series!

This video just shows you the reason Safiya is successful, and I wish more influencers did what she did. She took an e-mail from a sunsriber seriously, helped them with a problem they had, and she still made amazing content. And even the way she did it, she didn't have to learn everything or try to make drinks all day, but she did, and it shows how respectful she is, and how down to earth as well. I'm sure that branch of Kung fu tea is probably doing better now because of what she did, I want to try it if anything, but that's an impact she had on a lot of people's lives just in one video! And I'm not saying influencers should do it all the time, but it's so refreshing to watch this knowing all of the above.
The "behind the scenes" aspect of this made me really appreciate my bubble tea purchases. A lot of work goes into it! I also love when non-retail workers do some time behind the line - gets them to really appreciate the people who help them in retail settings.
I can't imagine how difficult it must have been for Safiya to hop into a customer facing position after being self employed for so long, but it says a lot about her work ethic and the abilities of megan training her and the rest of the staff at the store to have handled it and the increased customer flow so well!
I'm a Barista and this video captured the frantic energy of a busy day so perfectly. I especially love how excited she got when she got the stencil right! It showed that she was really trying her best and reminded me of when I made my first latte foam heart after months of failing.

This should be a series where Saf goes to different small chains and takes them over for a day. Brings profits and entertainment!
Please blow this up! I want it to be a series too!
Yes! That would be so cool
up!!!
i would also watch this series
kung fu tea is not a small chain they are like the mcdonalds of milk tea. they open up a store in an area and it causes actual milk tea small businesses to close down.
this is just another PR stunt for kung fu tea to gain more notoriety in order to monopolize the industry and bully small businesses.
I love how humble Safiya is - she came to the rescue of a random boba tea shop, learned to make boba, and shared cool content!
Safiya does not half-ass anything! Like she could've just been there handing out drinks or calling out orders but she dabbled into everything that goes behind the scenes in running a boba shop. And Megan is awesome. Such a good supervisor and she seems so professional, love a queen with a strong work ethic
Yeah she could've gone the Ace family route but she took it seriously like a baddie
They have such a comforting vibe!

honestly!! my local kung fu tea is always empty now after most kids from college aren’t near campus anymore! this was such a good idea, i love that she’s helping local businesses
I can't speak to what this particular shop is like now because I don't live in Charlottesville anymore, but in my experience there is NO ONE there when UVA classes are over. The last time I went was Memorial Day Weekend right before I moved and it was empty I was literally the only customer.
I am also v interested in the quantifiable data related to this video 👀
For reference a typical Saturday (which is already one of our peak days of the week) we hit about 200-300 drinks during this semester.
On Safiya’s takeover day we hit a new record of 679 drinks sold!

Kung fu tea is actually a huge chain, at least where I live in Ontario Canada. I'm so surprised they did this, but in the best way possible haha.
There are rules and such which could prevent you from doing stuff like this when you work for big coorperations. My sister actually had something very similar happen at her café except (to some) on a smaller scale of importance and approach (more like a prank video) with two really popular tiktokers (Mattie Westbrouck and Canon Ryder). right? those employees put in WORK
Right? I always find it so amusing, hearing other people's customer service voices compared to their regular voices
omg so true lol. Mine get's super high in pitch because people won't hear me if I speak in my normal voice lol.

She probably created that whole menu of drinks too, through lots of testing to see what was good together!
Dang, Megan deserved a bonus for this idea. It's really cool that Saf did this for only the video rights. And the shop will benefit greatly from the advertising I think, as well as l the people who want to go and meet Megan now. Lol.
Watching Safiya learn the skills of food service is SO RELATABLE to me. Especially learning/trying the POS System. The trauma comes back to me. 😵💫
Of course Meg deserves a raise... THOSE NAMES? GENIUS.
I wanna like but there's a gorgeous 69
I'm a student and working in a restaurant. Honestly Safyia, it felt like watching myself on my first day, also wasn't good at POS system. The way you guys showed the amount of work involved in these kind of jobs was great, really enjoyed it. And props to Megan and the rest of the staff!
The worst thing is that all POS systems are different at different places, so understanding one means nothing when you go elsewhere!
THIS. This is exactly what I felt like when I first worked at a rolled ice cream shop, with an added on learning curve of learning how to make rolled ice cream 😂
Megan is a badass employee. I hope her employer sees what a superstar she is.
Literally what I was thinking 😂
I worked in a really busy cafeteria back in college and this reminded me so much of dinner rush... But for 8 hours. Yikes! I would die.
Very good point! Really cool that she can bring awareness to the hard work they put in 🙏🏻
They do call them POS systems for a reason. ;)
Yes this! People don't realize how high stress & skilled the work can be!

Yes as a bobarista in California people don't realize how much it takes to make just one drink especially when it's packed
Tyler being 1000% onboard for getting a boba machine is giving me life.

Yep. The moment I saw that I thought "cocktail shaker".Oooh, maybe alcohol infused boba cockails.
It's so fun to hear Safiya's customer service voice 😅😅

I love listening to Safiya's "in case you didn't know..." explanation of boba as if I don't know what it is, cuz for some reason she makes it sound cooler that way lmao
I would happily watch “Safiya makes homemade bat boba”
omg with bat jellies

"You can either be Iroh, or Zuko."
I feel like Safiya's Zuko And Megan's Iroh, teaching her the ways of making boba tea.
I've never been so flattered
@@meganwlin teach us the ways of the leaf juice, master megan
And as a plus, in the comics Iroh actually makes boba tea
Yep me too I have rewatched avatar so many times I am currently now
Yeah I mean Safiya literally called the tea ‘hot leaf juice’ and Zuko called it hot leaf juice too lol
Ahhh I was there! I remember when we heard the news you were coming everyone was so shocked and confused and excited! We were like “how did our local Kung fu tea get Safiya??😂” but of course it was amazing!!! Thank you for being so kind and taking pictures with everyone (there was a lot of us😅) and thanks to all the employees at Kung fu tea who worked so hard and made all this happen! Feeling lucky that my first time trying Boba was Boba made from Safiya♥️
Thanks for stopping by and supporting the store!!
@@meganwlin Wow hi Megan ! Wish I could’ve been there
