    I wear foundation so infrequently that this may be a good one to keep around! I prefer full coverage when I do wear it because the dry skin I have makes it impossible to wear powder to help cover! I haven't tried the Dior Backstage yet either as I can't get a sample that has my correct color! Thank you for the video! Always supporting you! Your cat is adorable. Bless our little fur babies!

    Great review Shelly!! I loved hearing the story behind the miracle broth, very interesting! I do love when a foundation has skin care ingredients in it....every bit helps at my age! LOL But my first priority with any makeup product is that is performs well as makeup. I had a sample of the Le Mer moisturizing cream a few months ago and I really did not like fragrance! I don't mind when products have a scent that comes from the active ingredients I just can't stand added perfume to products, especially skincare. Here's one for the suggestion box: Diorskin Forever foundation. Have a wonderful weekend!!

    Wow that looks very nice on your skin! It's the perfect dewiness/ glow ( like you've said before : without looking sweaty) It just looks soft & youthful on you! I have used La Mer ( sample size only!) face creams & liked one but the other wasn't that impressive to me ( this was before I retired) I would splurge on it if I were working still. 😄 anyway I really am glad that you reviewed that one; I like the story behind it . Thank you Shelly - oh .. your cat is adorable!!

    Since I have very sensitive dry skin I started making most of my skin care myself years ago and my best moisturizer is made with hemp seed oil and kombucha I brew myself. Kombucha is a fermented drink and I use both the liquid and ground up scoby to make it. So I strongly believe in using fermented products in skincare, but at that price tag....no way!! Fermenting takes a long time, but is not time consuming at all. In my opnion any foundation priced that high is just hype.
    Love your video's and would love to know what you use to moisturize the under eye area during winter. Mine have started turning crepey as soon as the weather changed.

      It was starting to break down at 8 1/2 hours on me, so it's not super-long wearing in my experience so far. I need to try it with different combos of primers/etc to get a better feel for it but I wouldn't call it long-wearing. I'd call it average-wearing (to me, average is 8-10 hours. Very good is 10-12 and long-wearing is 12+).

    Yass! The review I've been waiting for! I nailed the B+/A-. Can you give an update in a few weeks after you've had a chance to wear it more? It doesn't have to be a dedicated video - just an update as part of a regular video or a GRWM would be good. I'm willing to pay the money for a foundation that works, but I'd prefer to wait until it's been fully road tested. Thanks as always and have a super weekend.

    • @goow

      It's my favorite thing when you guys are able to guess the grades because I must be consistent enough that you can tell what I'm thinking! :-D I am thinking about doing something like 30 days of selfies with this one (almost consecutively but I'd have to take a day off per week to film the other Friday foundation videos, and then there's usually a day or two per week that I don't wear foundation - so it'll probably take 5-6 weeks to do the whole series of wearing it for 30 of those days, but if it's near consecutive I think it should give a good idea of how the skin care works. Then I'd do an update video with all of those photos and updated thoughts :) and probably half of the bottle of foundation gone LOL

    I thought this looked beautiful on your skin. It’s definitely on my list, but I’m currently working through Chanel Sublimage. Both the La Mer and the Chanel are expensive, but if it looks nice I’m willing to pay more for something that leaves my skin a little better than it was before. My skin really responds to most La Mer products over any others (other than Augustinus Bader-that might be even better) so seeing results is worth a little more money to me at this age (48). 🙂

    Hi Shelly, Was waiting for this one. Great review! I don't think I could have said it better of how I feel about this. I actually wore this today "because" my skin has been "unhappy" and whatever is in it it did look better today and seems to be healing. I absolutely do Not think this is a dupe for the Neutrogena...I did see the video where Kassie said that....However I WILL say that the Estee Lauder Perfectionist is the closet to the LaMer and it does last much longer....in fact (for me) the Perfectionist is one of those foundations that looks better with wear. Perfectionist is a beautiful foundation. Thanks again for the review! xxoo

    The pretty finish is very important to me too! That’s like the biggest reason why I wear foundation haha. You’re right to rate it regardless on price bc if it’s good it’s good. If I liked it enough and could then I would get it too! Foundation is like the most important makeup for me now that I don’t have flawless skin. Everything else u could find decent thing at cheap prices, but foundation is worth paying much more for if u find a good one ☝🏻

    I have a few products I like (e.g. Perricone tinted moisturizer, No.7 Airbrush tinted perfector) which claim skincare benefits, but I wonder if good ingredients can get through moisturizer, sunscreen and primer? You look lovely as always.

    • @iwillstom
      @iwillstom 5 років тому +1

      mary warner That’s a really good point. I would rather buy a more expensive serum and have it sit closer to my skin. Whenever a foundation claims skincare benefits I’m always skeptical. It’s a nice bonus but it would never be the main selling point for me. For $120 I’d want it to make me look flawless, 18 again, AND do my dishes. 😂

    Briana Stanko did a dupe comparison too, with the Neutrogena Hydroboost Foundation, and it turned out to be a super, almost undetectable dupe as well... and she is bougie as heck(self professed) when it comes to only using high-end products. So, I think I'll save my money(not like I'd drop that kind of $$ on a foundation anyway). I already have the Physician's Formula Healthy Foundation, and since I already use the Neutrogena Hydoboost skincare; I think I'll pick that one up too. Good luck with that LaMer though ;). LaMer, Pat McGrath, Natasha Denona... Do your thing, Shelly!

    I have to admit, I often have a hard time discerning between finishes on foundation, but this one is very clearly dewy/glowy. I am not, however, in the market for such a spendy foundation! In fact, I noticed that my skin has gotten slightly lighter and more neutral/cool for the winter and my Bobbie Brown is pulling a little yellow on me, so I used your Foundation Matrix to select a drugstore foundation for the next couple of months.

    • @goow
      @goow  5 років тому

      Isn't it wild how undertones can shift? I'm generally neutral but shift warm in the summer and cool in the winter, both only slightly.

      Yep I was able to get a darker shade of the PF not to oxidize - not sure if I just had a dud in the lighter shade, or if the formulas are slightly different.

    Your look today is so lovely. I too dug my finger in my platinum bronze palette and I did shed a little tear. This foundation and the ken doh gen Aqua Foundation has been on my radar for a little while but with no stockists within 200 miles of where I live I’m a little reluctant to order blind. Can I ask what is your favourite to date. Thank you so much for this review.

    This one I wanted to hate- I went to get samples 3 times before I finally took the leap. It looks so gorgeous for about 5 hours then it breaks up a bit on me, mostly between my eyes and around my nose. I wear this for special occasions where I will not be wearing it longer than 5 or 6 hours. I do get compliments every time I wear it though. I am 52 and normal to dry skin and this one actually makes my skin look younger- it better for 120 bucks! I use that same shade and it the best match I have found for my skin tone but I do lean warm. I think it looks great on you!

    • @goow
      @goow  5 років тому

      I got a bunch of compliments on it at work too. People know I test makeup but when they don't like something, they just keep their mouths shut 😂so this one had to look better than usual for so many people to mention it.

    • @robinmilroy8573
      @robinmilroy8573 5 років тому

      That is so true! I am such a makeup Geek that when I get compliments from coworkers and clients I will literally journal what I wore that day and that is what helps me determine my holy grails. When people ask me if I am tired or sick I know that I need a new concealer! I am such a vain DIVA and it is secretly so satisfying. I am an OT and see tons of people up close and personal and the kids really give it to you straight- they are my best makeup meter! "why do your eyes look crazy today?" "why are you so shiny" they all hate highlighters! It is so fun

    It looks very nice on you but you have tested others that I like equally or more. The only way I would spend that much on foundation is if it was the ONLY foundation that looked good on me AND did not cause sensitivity issues (which is the exact reason that I spend $30 on mascara). Have a great weekend, Shelly.

    I think this looked great on your skin as it gave you a natural glowy look all day. However at the mid check in I felt it looked super heavy and makeup-e. Still had the nice glow but didn't look natural just... heavy is the only word I can find to describe it. You know that packed on look. Definitely agree from A distance it still looked good at the end of the night. Personally, I wouldn't and couldn't spend that much on a foundation no matter what's in the magic broth. I understand the cost based on the processing but still I think I'd rather spend that money on my actual skin Care and just use a cheaper brand of makeup especially if it holds up for longer. Prioritizes!! Lol thanks for the review. I've seen I think 2 others with different skin types review this and they had the same issues. I did find the fun fact part interesting though. I'm sure those with skin issues (acne, scarring, roseceia, etc) would probably see more of A difference then those of us just aging and fighting the normal skin changes life throws at us. Can't wait for foundation fest!! Have A great week Shelly!!❤

    Holy Moly that's expensive!! It is a very smooth and dewy finish and there appeared to be no creasing or polka dot pores either. :) I think it's great that they put their skincare ingredients in the foundation which could explain the high price tag. Speaking of "winter skin", we are having a very early taste of winter here with snow, and temps that dropped into the teens the past few days. :-( Which is putting my new-ish skincare products to the test. I began using them in September and so far, so good! I have had to add a little bit of facial oil to my foundations though which is typical for me during the cold, dry months. Just didn't think I'd have to start this routine so soon. :( UGH...I hate winter.... :-/

    While the concept of the miracle broth is really interesting, I would question whether or not you would see the full benefit of it by using the foundation layered over other skin care, sunscreen, and a primer. I think would be much more inclined to spend the $130 on some of the La Mer skincare products that I would be applying directly to the skin. The finish did look really nice on you but I think you've had other foundations that have looked just as good or better for a lower price point. Ultimately if you continue to use it and love it then that's all that really matters!

    I never use primer with this foundation. Or set it. It looks better as the day goes on...I wear it when I have long days at work and it has to be perfect. When I wear it several days in a row my skin looks fabulous. And this does. As with all foundations, it depends on many variables by individual. I love it.
    The only down side for me is that is has chemical sunscreen and I am trying to avoid those

And to figure out its favorite primer-or-not combos on my skin :)

      So I got a sample of this from Nordstrom. It really is nice. I had an Estee foundation in the 80s that was called Estee Demi-matte oil free foundation. This is the closest I've come to that product which was my favorite til it was discontinued.
      For anyone who is sensitive, this did not make my skin flame up the way most things with fragrance do. Unfortunately the scent really hangs in there so I'm going to use it a few more times to see if I get used to it.

      I'm not sure I'll ever finish a foundation since I have so many of them (200 or so!) but nothing has really changed in my opinion on this one since the review. I like it but for the price, it's a bit disappointing. I don't see any major skin care improvements from wearing it. Another very expensive foundation I tried that I love so much I bought a second shade is the By Terry Anti Wrinkle foundation. My skin feels better at the end of the day after taking it off than at the beginning when I started (it, too, has skin care ingredient claims). It's much more noticeable to me in the By Terry. If you're going to spend the 3-digit price tag, I'd try seeing if you can get a By Terry sample to try.

    La Mer has a policy that they don't give samples at Sephora (don't know about department stores though). One of the girls at Sephora apologized and said i could return it if i didn't like it. What a waste! I hate returning makeup because i can't stand the thought of them ending up in landfills! The shade range of LaMer is awful too. I'm light medium with warm undertones but they were all peachy pink and some neutral. I have 30+ foundations and many that i love. I just don't need this. The miracle broth also sounds shady.

    Hmmm...I feel slightly responsible as I asked you to review this stuff. But I don't feel too bad, seeing as I have bought at least a dozen foundations due to your reviews. So we can call it even 😁 The difference between this one and the La Prairie Caviar is the La Prairie doesn't look like you are even wearing makeup, but makes your skin look plumped and gorgeous. They are both still totally unnecessary frivolous purchases. Canda finally got CATRICE! I'm finding this to be the case as well. I tried this and it does look really pretty all day though my skin feels... odd. I also have a Clarins foundation and at first I thought it was fine but after buying it and wearing it a few more times, it seems I'm having a reaction. I really don't need perfume/fragrance in my foundation but the worst offender for that is Huda.
