  • Today I'm finally trying the luxury LA MER $110 Long Wear Foundation. It's a crazy price for a luxury foundation. Is it the best foundation for mature skin or a good foundation for wrinkles? I do my usual foundation wear test during this La Mer Foundation Review to not only see if this is a great over 40 foundation but to see if this is a great luxury / high end foundation for oily skin too!

    The luxury foundation I’ve been loving is the new La Prairie foundation that comes with the concealer in the cap. It performs outstanding! Love hearing about other possibilities though 😃. Thank you for your review!

    Gosh- this is so darn pretty on you! You look luminous and airbrushed! I have a similar skin tone so I think I’m gonna go pick up Linen! Yikes- it’s expensive but skin is the most important part of my makeup routine. Nothing ruins makeup like cakey foundation and this looks like you have nothing on your face! Flawless 😍

    I know this review was posted three years ago but it has been so important and relevant today. I am interested in trying full size versions of La Mer’s The Lotion Treatment and The Moisturizing Soft Cream. Those two products alone have immediately proven significant results - evened my skin tone, reduced the darker pigmentation/discoloration from sun exposure on my cheeks and eyes. I’ve used every night for three nights and I wake up feeling completely hydrated and my face is so incredibly soft. Their foundation or tinted moisturizer was the next thing on my list to “try before I buy” and now I’m convinced another sample would really help. Love hour channel, thank you!! 💗

    The best foundation ever! I look ten years younger with this foundation on... it is unbelievable there's nothing like it and I have tried everything. I do agree with you you do need to use a primer with all Foundation. I use typically Smashbox or I like thank me later primer. I also love Jeffree Stars setting powder on top and I use Laura Mercier under my eyes

    I love the La Mer foundation. It is everything you describe: luxurious coverage just makes my skin seem perfect without seeming to have any foundation at all. I don’t think the fragrance of the foundation is at all offensive, and it does have the same fragrance as all the products in the La Mer line. Having tried a myriad of other foundations, this continues to be the holy grail. How can you beat a product that not only makes your skin appear flawless, but also truly improves the condition of the skin? I’m a devoted user of La Mer products and can’t find anything with comparable benefit.

    I loved this foundation too, it looked amazing and the wear was great. Unfortunate it’s something I can’t wear everyday because of some irritating ingredients. I too have Rosacea with oily skin and this covered redness well and didn’t make me oily throughout the day. Thanks for the review.

    Looks beautiful on you! I think most importantly the skin benefits you mentioned....that and a beautiful foundation. I have this in Linen and I've always felt the color was off for me. I'm definitely a cool NW20-25. I did purchase this in a cooler tone during the Sephora VIB and it was waaay too dark. I think after I finish this bottle I'll go in-store to get a better match...it's a bit yellow for me. Great review as always! xxoo

    It definitely has a beautiful finish and I started wearing it off and on since the day it was released. However, it does have a laid dry list of ingredients which few of are proven beneficial to the skin, including many fragrance varieties (not just those listed as “parfume” or “fragrance”),...that said, I developed a contact dermatitis to it after about 3 months and really can no longer wear it. Nice 👍 review though! ❤️

    • @StephanieMarie
      @StephanieMarie  6 років тому

      I was looking through the list and saw some way down on the list that seem like they'd be pretty small in concentration. BUT also the natural ingredients that are "anti-aging" and "beneficial" can always be irritants or can cause allergies too. I guess anything can. I know you know your ingredients and there are lots in this foundation! I hate that about your contact dermatitis! Thanks Jen...always love getting your comments! 😘

    Your Skin Looks fantastic! I’ve had a sample sitting in my drawer for a while. I was “afraid” to like it. Lol. However people say this is so expensive but with skin benefits and the fact that a TINY bit of Concealer can be $30. So in reality it’s Not THAT EXPENSIVE after you get over the Initial INVESTMENT...& it’s Cheaper than the Dermatologist. if you can get that great of a result then YAY!

    I love this foundation too .My problem though was getting the right color-- I have to mix 2 so now the cost is $220 !!!!!!!!!! Bummer! but I love it. At the same time I decided to also try La Prairie which is $225 and the 1 color I bought is too light but I just don't want $500 in another foundation. Maybe i'll try some color drops? to darken a little? BUT -- La Prairie is a BEAUTIFUL finish and skin care too

    I wanted to love this, but just could not get past the strong scent. Even when I swatched it on my hand, I could smell it all day.

    • @StephanieMarie

      I find that it bothers me more when I smell it on something swatched than when it's on my face because I'm bringing the swatch straight up under my nostrils to smell it. But when the foundation is blended into my face and is topped with powder, I don't notice it the same way b/c it's not directly under my nostrils. Even though the makeup is blended out around and under my nose/mouth, it's just not as strong as it is when directly smelling the back of my hand. I hope that makes sense. I could see that if one is really sensitive to smell, it could be noticed. I usually don't like scent in foundations, but this (like with the TF Peach Perfect) just don't bother me when blended out on the face and settled in! 😀

    Ouch! $110?!?! I’ve paid a lot of money for foundations before but I’ve never spent that much and would be afraid that I’d fall in love with it and want to keep buying it so just because of the cost I would have to pass. It sure if pretty though and if I ever win the lottery I’ll give it a try. Thank you for sharing with us and it looks so natural on you.

      LOL! I know right?! It'll have to be one I replenish during sale time or when ebates is having major cash back at La Mer retailers...like today they're doing triple cash back in certain stores!

    I use primers more for smoother/better application of foundation as opposed to longevity. For prolonging wear I use a setting spray. I have normal/dry skin but it's also very textured with large pores, so I need a smoothing primer or serum. I get eczema & dermatitis flares & when that happens no foundation looks good unfortunately.
    I have a question about foundations that claim skincare ingredients. If you're wearing moisturizer & primer under the foundation, even if it does contain good skincare ingredients, will the ingredients actually penetrate the moisturizer & primer to even make contact with your actual skin? I've been wondering about this lately because I never wore primer, moisturizer or sunscreen before(1980s/1990s) When I wore foundation in my 20s /30s I bought one that had sunscreen & moisturizer in it & wore it on bare skin. ( Later I switched to powder mineral make up because I couldn't find a liquid foundation I actually liked the look & feel of. But once I hit 50, powder was a no-go. My skin wasn't oily or combo anymore & I wanted more coverage)
    Regarding price: I don't think this foundation is expensive if a) it makes your skin look great when wearing it b) actually makes your skin look & feel better when you're not wearing it. Keep in mind that some beauty serums & eye creams can cost as much & they can't be worn as cosmetics. Unless you really pile on your foundation, I would think a bottle could last you 6 months to a year. That's not bad if it's the only foundation you buy. I know Sephora sells out during the VIB sale so I assume that's when everyone stocks up.

      I don't have the official expert answer but here's my take...just as we layer skincare and things penetrate the skin, this works the same way. Moisturizer and skincare is absorbed into the skin. Primer is on top but our skin isn't impervious once a layer is on top of it. Primer isn't like a layer of house paint or house primer in that nothing can get past it. It's breathable...our pores and skin still breathe through the products. So effects can still be seen/experienced when products are layered. Think about when people use the same skincare and primer but try a new foundation and break out from it...it penetrates the skin. I also have experienced this so I go from my own experience as well. It's like physicians and clinical experience vs studies. You can go off things you read but once you've experienced proof of it in your own practice, you know it to be true. Does that make sense? :)
      I agree with you re: price. :)

    • @yensid4294
      @yensid4294 6 років тому

      Stephanie Marie, I was mainly wondering about the primers since most are silicone. Moisturizers also contain silicone. In skincare routines, we usually put the moisturizer on last because it forms a barrier & a seal. So, in effect you are putting your serum on after your moisturizer. That's what threw me. I don't know what the ingredients are or how they're formulated so I can't speculate what they've done to overcome this, as I mentioned using a primer is a relatively new thing as is moisturizer. I've never had a foundation break me out, just skin care, which is why I avoided moisturizers (& my skin was already oily) Only highly perfumed foundations will bother me & it's my eyes that get irritated by the perfume. Silicone is a big culprit in giving me milia which is why I started using AHAs & retinol serums in the first place. Silicone is in EVERYTHING. But it makes foundation go on so much smoother :(

      I can say that my skin felt really nice while wearing it. But I can't speak from the perspective of something with super dry skin and wouldn't want to give you false information. With today's return policies and samples, it might be worth a try...maybe with a hydrating primer underneath?

    What undertone does linen have?

    • @StephanieMarie
      @StephanieMarie  6 років тому +1

      My skin has a yellow/warm undertone. The sephora description from the link says "light skin with warm undertone". Though I'm usually light/medium in foundations, occasionally, light works if the foundation runs a tad bit dark or if I feel like the next shade up might be too deep based on what I've seen from others. It matched well.

      @StephanieMarie  6 років тому

      Can you elaborate on this? Aside from eucalyptus leaf oil and lime peel extract (and fragrance which is in nearly every luxury foundation these days) which can be irritating, I didn't see anything glaringly "horrible" in this foundation which I researched ingredients and looked at skincare/dermatology reviews and thoughts on this foundation as well. I'd love to hear your take on it.

    • @ulrikasundstrom6525

      It contains octinoxate, alcohol denat , propylene glycol and fragrance. These are ingredients that I try to avoid in my everyday-foundation. But that´s just my opinion. As I wrote, I do love the look of this foundation :)

    • @StephanieMarie
      @StephanieMarie  6 років тому

      That makes sense...we all have our ingredients we steer clear from. I don't think the overall ingredients are awful though. I am not concerned about propylene glycol in skincare based on the experts' thoughts on this skincare ingredient, esp when it's in the bottom 1/3-1/4 of the ingredient list. It's considered safe to use in cosmetics and skincare. I'm HUGE on not using foundations with high alcohol content...HUGE! But again, it's listed 75th in an ingredient list of 83 ingredients. The amount is extremely small in terms of concentration. I've seen the concern with octinoxate. But all studies were done in rats and mice in extremely high concentration. Worldwide, it's considered safe to use in cosmetics and skincare since it's such a small concentration. I wanted to give you my thought process. When I look at ingredient lists, I look at the order to see the concentration of ingredients in addition to other things. These days, it's rare that I'll even review a high end foundation with alcohol in the top 1/4 of the list. Any lower than 1/3 and you're looking at EXTREMELY small amounts. Thanks for giving me your thoughts! 😘
