Someone wrote a comment on another video about this foundation concerning her experience with e.l.f. and their shade match guarantee. She said they didn't require her to return the wrong shade, refunded her $ in minutes, and sent out the other shade she wanted. Sounds good to me!
I can validate that this is true. The original shade I bought was too yellow. They refunded my purchase and I reordered in a cooler shade. That was a tad light. So I mixed the 2 and got the perfect match. I think this foundation runs warmish (yellow) based on a what I’ve heard and seen. My point is elf has great customer service.
Nice foundation! I wish you will not say that your hair is messy or anything else. We like you as the way you are. :) Thank you for the video! Still like the close-up look!
I don’t think you’ve had such an impressive A in quite a while! That looked fabulous at 11 hours. And I can’t lie, I’m thoroughly amused by Ziva’s antics.
We must be house twinsies. Just replaced all my plumbing too. Luckily only took them about a day and half. Similar cost $13000 ish. Also had them replace the 4 hose bibs. We had the original galvanized steel from when the house was built in the 70's. The dry wall guy is coming today to repair all the holes in the walls and ceiling that they had to make to get to the pipes. Next project is to enclose my patio into a sun room. The contractor has ordered the windows, so just waiting on the project to start. Hi Zeva!!
It sounds like we have the same house plans! lol We need to get a drywall guy out, though thankfully the plumbers cut fewer holes than they originally thought they'd have to. Next here is replacing the deck and hopefully adding a screened-in gazebo or sun room.
I love the way Ziva gazes at you, Shelly! I was pleasantly surprised to find a full display of this at my WalMart, today, and picked up my most-likely shade. It was a good match, and I, too, am very impressed with it! e.l.f. did a great job with this one, thanks for the awesome review and video.

LOL. What is she staring at?? Looks great. I’m definitely purchasing this and the price there’s o beating that. Thanks for another great review! Hi Ziva! ❤
From my screen this looked really good on you, even the shade suited despite the huge difference from your swatches of your usual matches. So glad you got your house sorted out, it is a huge relief not to worry about a pipe bursting in the middle of the night (yes, that happened to us :(). Hope you spent a good long time having a nice hot shower :).
Ugh bummer that you went through that. Water damage sucks. I had different water damage issues in my 2 previous houses so I was pretty adamant to get this done before we had a giant mess here. (We knew buying the house that it had that now-banned piping).
I just tried this last week and I absolutely love it!! Not only does it have my exact match (extremely rare with my very pale skin!), but it’s incredibly skin-like, doesn’t irritate my skin, wears well, doesn’t emphasize pores, texture, flaky skin areas; and is actually comfortable to wear! I’ve never found a foundation that actually works for me like this! I can wear it sheered out like a bb cream and it just looks like my skin, or I can wear more full glam and it still just looks so good. I honestly can’t say enough about it!
I’ve been using their Flawless Satin Foundation line for years, and the last time I shopped it was really hard to find, and I was afraid it was being discontinued. So much of what you said about this new foundation is what I loved about the other one, especially the wear time! Today I had my face done by 4:30am and just now took it off at 8:30pm, but it still looked pretty good! Ya can’t beat that for $6!
I haven't tried this foundation or the $6 version but from what I have heard the older version has about 2/3 of an ounce and this is a full ounce for $8. Seems like the price is comparable. The older version had limited shades and a glass bottle. I know glass is better for the environment but this plastic container takes up less room. I hope to try this soon. $8 seems pretty good compared to the insane prices at Sephora.
Awww, nice. Going to have to try this one whenever we get it in Australia, it will probably be around $20 - $35 here. Their Halo Glow liquid filter is $35.
@@goow Wow! That is a crazy good price! Think I'd be tempted to grab it and plan my life around it. Is it refundable or transferable if you can't make it?
Appreciate this comment. Gives me a possible reference. I have been using a Korean foundation that has to be ordered online. I want the convenience of local shopping and affordable prices. Fingers crossed that ELF has a pale, neutral, olive. The issues that I have with color matching could be solved. Being able to return a product at a local store, if it doesn't match, would be amazing
So happy that your new pipes are in! I was wondering what shade you were going to pick. I usually go just a little lighter than you do. I got 13 neutral first. It was pretty good but wanted something just a bit darker. Was afraid 14C might still be too light so I jumped to 20C. Just a touch dark but I’m going to try combining them. Like you said, $8! Can try different shades easily. I love Ziva and the tail hugs and sniffs. She reminds me of my 15 year old Candy. ❤️
Shelly! We bought a house in Bristol, VA. We’d also love a screened in porch, so we can actually enjoy the outdoors without the bugs. They EAT ME UP. 🦟🦟🦟
I just purchased light neutral & medium neutral in that product to mix for my perfect shade. I am not wowed when I first apply it, but once it settles in, I like it! It does work better for me and my dry skin if I use the MAC hydrating fix + first. Cannot beat the price tag! I never wear my foundation for hours on end, so I’m fine with it! Not my favorite base product, but it is somewhere in the middle of the road! I wonder what it would look like with a glow product underneath? Ziva is just so happy hanging with Mom! 👍🏽
Great review, Shelly. I'm really impressed by how well the foundation wore on you for 11 hours! I saw your swatch test video first, so I did not think this shade was going to look right on you, but it really did work just fine. I was hoping for a little more sheen, but I like that it's medium coverage and not totally matte.
I always enjoy your videos, yet rarely comment. I appreciate your humor, your sweet cats, and, of course, honest reviews. That's a beautiful finished look and you definitely don't look like in your fifties! I'm 72. God bless!
So glad you reviewed the Elf Soft Glam foundation because I broke down and purchased it today to seeee how it works on my 63 yr old dry much more mature skin than yours. I got it in light neutral, as I think I’m a bit darker than you. 🤷🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🫤🙃Great review as always Shelly. Have a great night of restful sleep sweetie. Thank you for being YOU.
Well I have to say that this foundation will not stay on my nose and I don't blow it I don't touch it it just wears off my nose I've tried it two days now both times with primer. I really don't know what else to do I've even added concealer on my nose as extra coverage and it still wears off. So for me I don't think it's going to be working still looking for that perfect Foundation going back to my CC cream until I find another one that is more affordable. I did however order from QVC last night the tarte powder foundation hoping that will work that would be a nice thing for the summer so anyways great video glad your plumbing is all done and happy showering
Thanks to Camille Cowher, I've learned to dab setting spray with a sponge all over my nose, after SPF but before foundation, then use the sponge to dab on your foundation, then use the sponge sprayed with setting spray on a different side, with powder to set. No primer. Just SPF, foundation and powder. Then be sure to do an overall spray with setting spray when you're done with all your makeup. Works great - no polka dot pores, no Rudolph red nose, no broken capillaries or oil slick peeking thru. Thanks, and watch Camille Cowher once in a while!
Oh plumbing replacement! The joy! 😣 I hope it is done or gets done soon! That is never a fun task but glad it’s being done! Thank you so much for the review!
It's done! Thanks, Carolyn! The relief is huge. Water damage is such a mess. I've had it in both of my previous houses. Thankfully we caught this one before it was an issue.
I love how I was able to enter the foundation I currently use (brand, kind and shade) an it told me what to order (which it also told me to order #20!). I ordered this with the power grip primer. Can't wait to get out! I hope it works coz I'm so tired of washing my money on (what I consider) expensive foundation!
I'm so excited to try this! I just bought medium neutral and it actually looks like the perfect shade. That NEVER happens. Usually I need to buy 2 shades and mix. I hope it lasts nice so I can replace my expensive foundations lol I'm so tired of spending $60-$75 for foundation. I mean.. I have expensive taste but it's like the typical brands. Estee lauder double wear and some dior. Lol but like... they're good. I just would like something for everyday so I'm not going through foundation as much you know... I've not had luck with drugstore foundation yet. Tried em all ugh. Let's go elf!!
Hi, Shelly. New subscriber here. Love your reviews and your cat (I’ve seen only one but read you have others). I have 7, all rescues. I was so hesitant to try this ELF Foundation because, like you, I’ve had issues with the brand in the past. This one - OMG! I’m in love - and for $8! I have many higher end foundations but this one performs as well, if not better, than many of them. Once you get your shade down, which is a real challenge when buying online, it doesn’t disappoint. It lasted a full 8 hours for me and looked flawless. I’m so happy to have found your channel. So much fun!
Welcome, April! I'm loving the Elf!! And I love that you have 7 rescue cats - hug them for me!!! Ziva is the only one of mine that jumps into videos (occasionally the kitten Charlie will pop in, and my third girl Daffy doesn't jump up because she's a tripod missing one of her back legs so she can only climb up things she can get her claws into!)
I was waiting to buy until I saw your review! I have oily skin and prefer a bit more matte than you so this may be perfect for me! Thanks for your great videos!!
OMG! I just saw that eyeshadow palette on Amazon and now I REALLY want it! (I'm a House of the Dragon fan!), so that's why I really want it! LOL!! Oh, and it looks like ANOTHER addition of foundation will be added!! Thanks for an excellent review - and HI Ziva!!
hi Shelly! I got this foundation as soon as I saw it at my local Walmart, 2 shades and none of them worked for me 🙄 it seems they are either too yellow or too orange/peachy, too dark, too light, too too too 😆... that's why e.l.f.'s foundations don't work for me, I liked the finish of this one but I don't like spending time mixing shades/products to make them work, don't have time for that... anyway, thnx for the review! say hi to Ziva, she's so adorable 😸... take care, hugzzz 💜
I wonder if I'm going to have the same issue. I don't really have a great match in Elf foundations usually. I am going to try grabbing a lighter shade once they're physically in stores here (I haven't seen it yet!)
I will give this a try. The NYX born to glow foundation you recommenced a while ago was amazing. It’s discontinued now, but is there anything else in the drugstore that is similar to the NYX?
It's a tough one because nothing is quite the same that I've tried! I'd say its best features were excellent blurring and smoothing, with a hydrating dewy finish. So by those standards, I think in the drugstore realm the L'Oreal True Match Nude is probably closest. The Wet n Wild Tinted Hydrator is similar but a little higher coverage I'd say. The Haus Lab Triclone foundation is probably closest in non-drugstore, or NARS Light Reflecting or Polite Society. I even googled to see if the internet had any better suggestions and it's a whole lot of people saying there's nothing that is quite a dupe! I agree unfortunately. But you can get similar good qualities. They nailed some tough shades too in that Nyx line so if you were one of the shades that doesn't compare to other brands, that's a tough one too :(
@@goow You’re so right! It’s hard to find an exact match. I have the drugstore foundations from the list on your site, like the L’Oréal. They’re all great, but I agree nothing compares to the blurring, lightweight feel and the price!
That's a lot of promises for $8 bucks. 😅 elf foundations are very hit or miss with me as well, mostly miss though. This looks really nice on you Shelly. ☺
this didn't work on me with a silicone based mineral SPF under it, and a powder and/or setting spray on top. it looked horrible after just four hours working with my patients in showers. will try using a non silicone based SPF and no powder/setting spray on top and see how it goes
I bought this the other day, as I'd heard good things about it. It looked gorgeous on you, so I have high hopes. Just hope the colour is ok but for that price I won't grumble if I have to get another one.
Can't wait to hear your thoughts on this foundation. I was not a fan. I thought it was more matte as well. I really like the Elf lipgloss with SPF. I have Pink Me Girl as well. I'm so glad that it worked for you. I'll have to play around with it again and figure out why I'm not liking it. It look fabulous on you. Kiss the kitties. Have a great weekend! 🩷🩷😘
Ziva girl, I look forward to seeing you. Thank you for reviewing this. I have been waiting for you to do it before I purchased it. Worth a try for sure
My parents need to replace the plumbing in our house as well lol and we need to get the electric up to code this house is from the 40's I believe we have a septic system and city water hate the septic also the basement is a block basement so not the greatest we've had a lot of issues with our house the previous owners didn't do what they were supposed to do before we moved in. Also I was curious if you can do a video on how to clean make up brushes and sponges especially the dual sided make up brushes I haven't found any videos on cleaning the dual sided make up brushes and there aren't many recent videos that show how to clean makeup brushes I recently just got a cheap silicone make up brush mat since it takes forever washing them just by hand it's super cute and shaped like a butterfly I can't wait to use it especially before the two weddings I have on Friday and Saturday
I'm definitely overdue for a brush cleaning video (and just doing my brush cleaning!) I have a Rivanli drying rack which does make it easier to dry them all. But I still wash each one by hand. rivanli.com/products/rivanli-makeup-brush-drying-rack
@goow thanks I just washed my brushes the other day used a silicone brush cleaning mat i got off Amazon took me for ever literally over 4 hours to clean all my brushes and some I couldn't fully get the stains off
I’m commenting before watching… I wore it for the first time today (shade 20) and it wasa tad too dark to start then oxidized about 2 shades. I’ll try it again tmrw with a different primer. Now on to the video! Can’t wait to see what you think!
So far no issues with the humid summer! Knock on wood I don't often get hot flashes. I've had 3 so far about 6 months apart. My mom and her mom never really had them so I'm hoping I am just someone who won't have them too... though I know I've had a few. First one I had no idea what was happening. Second one it hit me and I realized what they were (nothing like I expected - like, it's not just like "I'm hot" - it's such a bizarre from-the-inside overheating sensation that the first one I literally almost went to the doctor!) 🤣
@goow oh I can relate to that! I'm glad the elf is holding up. I like to use the power grip primer, then the foundation... then power grip setting spray. Then it all melts off... I can't wait until I'm done with these. Start enjoying makeup again. Lol
Do you use primer setting spray or powder to set your foundation on the days where you are not reviewing a foundation ? Please help me fill in the blanks with your recommendations Thank you
Hi Chrissy! I wear primer pretty regularly (often in reviews too - very few foundations look good on me without it. I rotate a bunch of them - Wet n Wild Impossible Primer, Elf putty, Caliray). I almost never wear setting spray unless I'm going to a wedding or a long-time event (couple times a year maybe?) and I only wear powder if a foundation is staying too tacky or needs extra smoothing - so maybe 1 out of every 10 times I put makeup on? That might even be too much. Powders tend to dry me out faster but the new-ish Jones Road doesn't dry me out so I've been using that every so often. But generally I'm not a powder-wearer either.
Everytime you mention getting a sandwich I want a sandwich! Getting ready to go to Massanutten for vacation so if you have a good restaurant recommendation I’d love it! 😍
My favorite in the resort here is the Campfire Grill. Resort prices of course but I've never had a bad meal or drink there (and I eat there probably twice a month). Right across Route 33 from Massanutten is Thirsty's Burgers which is tasty. Romanos and Ciros (McGaheysville and Elkton) are both good locally for Italian, and I also like Santa Fe Mexican Grill (McGaheysville). All of those are within 5 mins or so of Massanutten. The best food though is in Harrisonburg, about 20 minutes up 33. My faves are Vito's, Bella Luna, Beyond, Capital Waffles, Jimmy Madison's, Clementine, Golden Pony, Mashita, Xenia Grill, Taste of Thai, Cuban Burger... I think that's it :) 🤣🤣🤣
I want to get this but am so bad a choosing the right color. The one you chose doesn’t look to dark on line but looked dark on the swatches you did . How do you know if you’re light or medium, cool or neutral? It’s all so confusing.
Light vs Medium seems to vary with every brand. But the undertones are somewhat consistent (except brands that label them opposite of the majority, like MAC and Haus). Cool - you usually look best in silver jewelry and the veins on the underside of your wrist/elbow look blue or purple. Warm, you look best in gold and veins look greenish/yellowish. Neutral, you look equally good in silver or gold (even if you have a preference one way or the other), and you see both colors purple/green when checking your veins.
For me, the Flawless doesn't wear nearly as long (not even 8 hours on me) and dries my skin out a whole lot. This is the first Elf foundation I've worn that feels this lightweight and stays put so well.
I sold my house and bought a condo. Hoa takes care of a lot of things + I get access to multiple pools and hot tubs. However, I’ve been missing my house and I might as well have just put the money towards it instead of hoa! 🤪
This foundation has been a winner for me. I love it and so does my 56 year old face.

That tends to be my life with Elf. I think I'm going to pick up 20 and see where I end up - probably mixing.
Still experimenting with elf soft glam, but loving it!
I always enjoy your videos, yet rarely comment. I appreciate your humor, your sweet cats, and, of course, honest reviews. That's a beautiful finished look and you definitely don't look like in your fifties! I'm 72. God bless!
Thank you, Meesha!! 💜
Cats are the best ! Great review❤
This looked beautiful! ❤
Same I don't love it like other people. I much prefer the camo cc cream.
You look beautiful!
Shelly it looks beautiful ! And your hair is adorable like that ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you! I'm bringing back the adult pigtails 🤣
I bet it'll work well for you, Alicia! Let me know how it goes! I'm going to buy a lighter shade. I'll definitely wear this one a lot.
I've been waiting for your review and I cannot WAIT to try this one !!! Goooo Soft Clam !!!😅🎉
🤣🤣🤣
I bought it in the shade fair neutral 13.i have normal to dry skin. I like it with a primer under it and a setting spray.
You look pretty! Thanks for the review.
Dang, that is nearly invisible on your skin, wow. And no-feel? Sign me up! Glad your plumbing is sorted!
@goow thanks I just washed my brushes the other day used a silicone brush cleaning mat i got off Amazon took me for ever literally over 4 hours to clean all my brushes and some I couldn't fully get the stains off
Gonna try it!!!!
I LOVE the other palettes I bet you do a well from WUB
They arrived today woohooo!
Yes I bet you love them I hope you do a look with them ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
It’s a really lovely foundation!
Freaking gorgeous! Do you prefer sponge or brush?
I usually go brush but this one works either way for me! I too often forget to wet my sponge before I sit down and that makes the decision for me 🤣
Anyone know what shade for fair skinned neutral undertones gal ❤
If you're a little more fair than me I think I'd try 13. That's what I'd have gotten if I was going for my full on winter paleness.
Thanks for doing this, I am gonna try this foundation! Looks great on you!!
I’m commenting before watching… I wore it for the first time today (shade 20) and it wasa tad too dark to start then oxidized about 2 shades. I’ll try it again tmrw with a different primer. Now on to the video! Can’t wait to see what you think!
I definitely need to grab a lighter shade (which I am definitely going to do!)
Thanks for the review! I think I'll pick one up soon.
The funny taste from the lipgloss is possibly/probably the SPF aspect of it. 🤷♀️☀️
My SPF lip balm is heavenly and doesn’t taste weird. But it’s from YesStyle- not a USA formula.
Could you pls review Hydra Vizor Huez Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum Mineral Spf 30 Sunscreen
Added to my list to buy!
Do your know if this foundation blur pores or texture ?
It does a pretty good job at blurring both on me.
Game on people!
Looks great ❤
Right on Shelly… need to see it with ur B cream too.
What beauty sponge is this
It's the Paw Paw sponge from Shop Miss A - AOA Studio. They're $1.55 and I buy a bunch at a time! They're my favorite sponge. go.magik.ly/ml/23grs/
How does it hold up to hot flashes plus summer humidity and heat? Lol
Lol
Anyone have any any tips keeping foundation on your nose as mine stays red and doesn't cover for long? Thanks all
I wish I had a nose solution. Most don't stay put on me, either.
Shelly, are you shade 20 or 21 in this? The hand swatch says 20 fair cool, but the link says 21 fair neutral. Thanks!❤
I've got 23 Light Cool which is a little too dark. I'll probably grab 20 next.
Do you use primer setting spray or powder to set your foundation on the days where you are not reviewing a foundation ? Please help me fill in the blanks with your recommendations
Thank you
Any Canadian MU lovers find this yet? I still don't have the Hydrating Camo 😢
Not yet
@@kirstens5688 Thank you for your reply 💗💛...I guess it's Amazon for now 😁😃
32yo male. I like it. looks like skin
Welcome!!! This one surprised me! I've worn it a couple more times and so far, so good.
Wait a freaking minute… I just got this notice but there a comment a day old? 🤔
Some videos go live to channel members early :)
Everytime you mention getting a sandwich I want a sandwich! Getting ready to go to Massanutten for vacation so if you have a good restaurant recommendation I’d love it! 😍
We are shade twins 👯♂️ in this foundation! Can’t beat it for $8 😊
My favorite in the resort here is the Campfire Grill. I think that's it :) 🤣🤣🤣
@@goow thank you!! I’ll be checking out at least one of those this week! 😍
@@goow thank you.
Shelly what about mixing 14 cool with 20 cool… ur my shade twin so I may by both and. CHeck that out
can anyone really explain the difference between the wear/feel of this and their flawless satin foundation for $6?
For me, the Flawless doesn't wear nearly as long (not even 8 hours on me) and dries my skin out a whole lot. This is the first Elf foundation I've worn that feels this lightweight and stays put so well.
Kitty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and woman ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥thank you for your review
Ziva says hi!! (I read her all of her comments) :)
Ahh. The joys of homeownership. 🤪
I've been yearning for the rental days lately! 🤣🤣🤣
I sold my house and bought a condo. Hoa takes care of a lot of things + I get access to multiple pools and hot tubs. However, I’ve been missing my house and I might as well have just put the money towards it instead of hoa! 🤪
