Hey guys! I created this video to remind me (and you guys!) of all the amazing memories over the last decade. I feel incredibly blessed to have had the opportunity to capture so many aspects of the cubing communities journey in the last 10 years. There have been so many funny, amazing, and cool moments in cubing history that I got to capture and I wanted to give you guys a video that showed all of it off. I really hope you guys enjoy it, because this was a massive walk down memory lane for me. With that being said, the time for me to take a break from cubing has come. This has been something I have struggled with for almost a year, but after consistently feeling like this, I think stepping back is the best thing I can do. Competitions haven't been very fun for me for awhile now. Since I can't compete at a high level anymore, it just isn't as exciting. Improving my results was a massive motivation for me to compete and now that is gone. Filming competitions has been an absolutely incredible journey, but as a one man team, I simply can't do the things that I want to do anymore. In recent years, major competitions have always been a huge stress for me. Trying to capture all the right moments, create something original, motivating, inspiring, make them faster, etc has become increasingly difficult. It's all self inflicted pressure, but it is pressure I don't want to deal with anymore. I will never fully quit cubing, but I can't make it a priority like I have in the past. It is time for me to continue to advance my filmmaking in new areas that I haven't explored as much. I will still occasionally attend competitions and perhaps, even make a video here and there (nationals 2019 still has to be finished lol). But I will no longer compete or produce content regularly. I have maybe 1-2 more competitions I plan to go to shortly after this. (though, who knows with Corona...) Cubing has been a MASSIVE part of my life which makes this really difficult to write. Not having cubing be as big a part of my life feels so....wrong. But I can't keep pretending that I'm enjoying it when I'm not. With all of that being said, I want to say thank you to everyone that has supported me in the last 10 years. I cannot express to you guys how much you have changed and shaped my life...everything I am doing today would not be possible without all of you guys. I can't begin to thank the community for all the amazing things it has done for me. To everyone who helped me create content, participated in my videos, gave my opportunities, those who encouraged me, thank you so much. You guys are the best :)
chis, it's been an amazing 5 or 6 years watching your channel, the video quality was real good, and the weekly algs section was fantastic. My fav video was prob the 2x2 DNF avg, lol. Thanks for your videos, and good luck with the rest of your dreams.
cyotheking amazing chris i love it dont worry about needing a break from cubing everything eventually needs a break before the motivation can come back. What I do want to say is please keep doing what u enjoy doing all us subscribers r here for u man and keep cubing when ur free not to compete but for fun or to past the time like waiting in a long line.
Thank you for another iconic piece of cubing film history. Cubing will miss you Chris, but you have left such a massive legacy, not just in competitions, but with your artistry and videography. You were (and still are) a massive inspiration to me in wanting to tell cubing stories cinematically. I can guarantee you that cubers in 2030 will still be watching these videos and talking about cyotheking (however you pronounce that :p). Thank you brother. Also cannot wait for the netflix documentary. Looking forward to it more than Stranger Things 4.
Amazing video and congrats on an amazing career! I remember watching your videos back in 2015 as one of the first cubing channels I found, and you have been a huge inspiration for me to start my own channel. The community will miss you and your place in the community will be hard to fill!
Chris, it was great to meet you and get to know you over the years. It will be sad to see less of you, but your incredible videos (including this one) and contributions to the community will never be forgotten! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This video brought me to tears over all of the memories I have had through cubing. Seeing all of my idols as a kid grow up is just crazy. Have to say, through cubing, I have met some of the best people. Amazing video! Can’t wait to see what this decade brings!
Although this year isn't off to a great start with coronavirus cancelling some comps let's hope that the rest of the decade is a great one for speedcubing.
You’ve always been a great inspiration to me as a cuber and as a person. Thanks for everything you’ve done for us all and I wish the best for you in your future!
Thank you for bringing the stories behind the cubers. As they say, "Everyone has a story," and you have a way of telling it so that you feel like you know them, even if you really don't. There are probably many people who picked up cubing because of your videos. If you need to go in a different direction to bring back the spark, by all means, do so. Life is (hopefully) long, and most old people have had periods of time when their lives were very different, whether it's changing careers, changing hobbies, getting married/divorced/having children, moving to a different location. Embrace your opportunities head on, and even if you end up not liking or not being good at some of them, you'll rarely regret it. (Remember Michael Jordan tried baseball?) Best of luck to (both of) you in writing your next chapter!
So Glad to be a part of this community. This video really made me have Goosebumps for the editing. It's definitely the best cubing Documentary out on the UA-cam yet!
I love this video. The first half showed the cubing community and the connection between every cuber. The second half showed your progression as a cuber, a filmmaker, and most importantly your growth as a person. It is absolutely magical and I loved every second of it.
when you look back on 1 year it doesn't seem like a lot has happened but when you look back on a decade you can really see how people and things can change so much
I'm no speedcuber, but I always watch different videos about cubing, events, etc. When I was a kid I always had a basic cube from the rubiks brand, but just last year I learned how to solve it in a simple very basic way. This video is so well done...so beautifull. Well done!
This were the best "3 minutes" of my years so far. Cant say anything else than thank you. This video is something I think we as a comminuty really need right now. Keep on the great work!
You are the one that gave me motivation to me to continue cubing after I almost left it and I don't regret it. Just wanted to say tnx for all the things you gave us
Even in the first few seconds, I love all of it already. These years have been very wild, haven’t they? Hoping you have the best of rest in your break though 🙏
Thank you for this video, it was a joy to watch. In a way, you've been a part of my cubing journey since the beginning, starting when I always kept your 2014 nats video on in the background as I practiced. You've been a huge inspiration for me, and I thank you greatly for that. I'm sad to see you go, but I have a great amount of respect for you regardless. I'll continue to follow your film channel. Whatever journey you go on next, from the bottom of my heart I wish you the best of luck!
when one path ends another starts. And we cant wait to see where that path takes you and your career in filmmaking. We are all supportive of your choice
Thank you Chris Olson for bringing the amazing memories over the last decade, this is the best Cubing film I’ve seen. I am excited and we are really proud to work hard for Cubing. Thank you for bringing us such wonderful memories. Thank you for all the cubers who have been working hard for their Cubing career. Happy Cubing.
Goodbye Chris, you will greatly missed and I will still watch your content from time to time. I still remember the first video I watched on your channel, qiyi thunderclap review, you were one of the first cubing channels I watched when I first began interested in cubing and one of the ones I still watch to this day. Thank you for the amazing and high quality videos. Best of luck in your future :)
I’m really proud to be apart of a community where everyone is together having fun. Competitions aren’t even competitive because everybody is having fun. It’s weird to think that everybody can have so much fun for a twisty puzzle!
Nice job on an amazing video! I've been a fan ever since I started cubing, I would always watch your videos which encouraged me to go to my first competition and strive to get faster. You've been an inspiration for me and the cubing community with the transformation you've gone through because of the effect cubing had on your life. It was a great experience getting to hang out with you and Max last summer as well. -Daniel York
I've only been doing this for the latter few years of what this video covers, but because of the immense inclusivity of the cubing community, it feels like I've been here for all of it. This video made me remember why I love cubing, and the memories I've associated with all of these people and the places I saw them. Amazing video, as always.
I got my first Rubik's Cube in 2014. I really started in 2015 and went to 3 competitions in 2016. After about 2017-2018, I left cubing for a while. I came back in 2020, and found all these crazy things. Max Park is the new best cuber, and the new 3.47 WR. And this video, really gave me alot of nostalgia from the videos used. :) I used to watch you, DGCubes, Derpy Cuber, TPC, Hashtag Cuber, JR Cuber, RedKB and all the others. :)
4 minutes in and I’m balling my eyes out, I love being part of this community so much ❤️ Edit: Chris i LOVED this! Thank you for being a great role model for me in the cubing community. I always loved your videos and got so excited when you upload! I’m sad to see you take a break, and I never could imagine all the stress to film all the right moments at big comps, but, it’s a well deserved break for you.
11:00 Damn Chris despite what you do now, your camera back then has the quality of POTATO You led us thousands of miles from there the point of zero to now the high points that will only get bigger in the later years. Thank You
I can't believe it's been over a year since I watched this, this video is by far the best video I've ever seen and it is one of the things that makes me want to cube each day. Keep it up, Chris!
