I expected you to say that u got something like 30 or 40 seconds in a year but sub 20 is amazing. Especially on average. In one year, u were able to take a solve 5 minutes long and break it down all the way to 11 seconds. Your story truly inspired me to work harder. When I started cubing, it took me two years to get to and average of 30 - which is me now, - but you got a record of 11 seconds in half the time it took me to get more than double ur time. Thank you. You truly inspired me.
I am waiting for my speedcube to start with cfop I already have a list of 85 videos to start from scratch to the most important thing, a bit hasty I think so but I am going to get to this fully, I do not have a hobby since more than 5 years I stopped doing martial arts, so I started one day watching some random videos of people solving cubes and then I said well I don't have one but I can still learn and use my cell phone as one and said and done I learned to do it with a 20 minute video my The first solved was 20min and the video lasted after my second solved low to 5min after a few to 3, and after the second day I was in 2 minutes, and the next day i endmemorizing the 5 algorithms of the beginner method I could reach the end of the second day less than 75sec and now I'm waiting for my new cube to start learning more, I hope and I have no doubt that this takes me out of my repetitive routine and I have a good time learning I hope to also become sub30 at the end of the year, thank you also for being a channel that helps us and teaches us about this world.
this makes me feel a lot better about how far i've gotten. i just started timing myself a few months ago because i signed up for my first comp. when i started timing myself i was getting around a minute average. im glad to say now right before the comp i've managed to cut both my 3x3 average and 5x5 average by almost half! and i just got my first sub 20 solve today!
That is a really nice story to be shared, and i love hearing you are bonding with your daughter through cubing. Hobbies are more than what people seem to take it. It helps people bond with each other even more closer than you can even imagine. Gaming, reading, cubing, a lot of these hobbies really help you bond in a way you can never think. The internet has helped everyone getting in touch with people with similar interest, and i just love when people have the same interest as me. The cubing community has become bigger as it expand, and im grateful to find the community and cubing enjoyable.
I got a cube for christmas so its been around 3 months right now. At the moment my average is just a bit below a minute which im really happy about. Ill try to remember to update here in june and every 3 months if anybodys intrested
Hi so this is my update: I had some weeks where i didnt cube at all and some weeks where i didnt do really anything at all. I got to about 38 seconds pb and 45second averange of 5. I got really bored of cfop and switched to roux. My times started at around 3 minutes but quickly dropped down and in a couple weeks i got a time of 37 seconds. This encouraged me to keep going and i got a pb of 28 seconds and 34.6 second average of 5.
I love these types of videos. I just started out cubing and have only just gotten under a minute! These videos make me want to keep going and makes it feel so much more acheivable! Thank you so much! I havent had an actual hobby in so long and I've fallen in love with it!
I felt the sub 20 mark on CFOP is tough as hell too when I first learn it in 2016. Now I can do it with LBL method lmao. Good video man, considering to subscribe right now!
@Ultimate_ Cuber I thought it was impossible for me at first.. Now im sub 15 and can even past sub 20 with LBL lol. I tried doing it super slow and when i stopped the timer, it literally showed "29.35".. I was like, wasnt i doing it super slowly? I watched my older video like 3 months ago, i kept pausing and doing it very fast without looking ahead and it was around 53.45 seconds, i laughed to myself.
I just love you......i got alot inspired.....i was thinking to give up because i saw no improvement in my cubing......thanks a lot..... And your daughter is really cute☺️☺️☺️☺️
Excellent story, definitely inspires me. I am a 30 second average solver, with my PB being 24, and I've been going for about a year now. I don't have much time to cube as I would like, but I'm getting there. Thanks for inspiring me, and I'll keep giving it my all.
Really cool story! Thank you for sharing. Also, on a personal note, it's good to see someone older with a kid who I can relate to. I just started cubing and am at the very beginning of my journey (6:15 PB LOL), and am 40 years old. I also have a daughter who likes to cube with me. Again, thanks for sharing. 😀
I'm just at the start of my cubing journey, and after watching this, I'm looking forward to cubing with my daughter too (in a few years, she's too small still!), thanks for that :) All the best!
I used to avg about 17 seconds when I was in 8th grade. Fast forward 5 years after I sold most of my speedcubes I found I was still able to avg about 22 seconds. And with 2 weeks of practice I was down to 16. That being said, I don’t think you’ll ever get but a few seconds slower. It’s crazy how engrained the memory algs is in your brain. I still knew all but one pll, and after looking up the alg it came back to me almost instantly. So I believe no matter how long you quit for, you’ll always be able to solve the cube “in a matter of seconds” :)
Love it how it took him a year to get sub 20 while this is my 3rd year cubing and I'm still sub 30. Just shows how much motivation and setting goals can help you. 😁
@@johnmarkraqueno2051 Well for the first 2 years, I was kinda on and off cubing but for this year I do like 30 min sessions 4 times a week because I have school. (BTW I'm kinda sub 20 now, it's just I only consider myself sub 20 once I get an ao100 that is sub 20) But the problem is I'm kinda naive when it comes to practising efficiently and gaining motivation. Also, I have few cubing friends but while I'm getting sub-20/30 solves, they are still sub 2 min so it's hard to gain motivation from them if you know what I mean.
I found your channel today, and have been watching all your videos (well a lot of them), I just wanna say the relationship you have with your daughter is inspiring, this is what I wish for myself, I kinda want to stop learning the cube so when I do have a child, we can learn together. You're an awesome dad and for me that's better than any 3x3 record.
I'd love to see a video where you break down the most important milestones along the way. The 'Aha' moments and the lessons that had the most impact on your progress.
Beautiful video. My daughter is 21 now and I am reminded of when she was your daughters age and we had Daddy daughter activities, like painting miniatures together or playing with her Barbies. You little princess will always remember these simple times. That is what kids really want is time with us, not things from us. Parents put down your phones and pick up a cube. Someine should put that on a t-shirt or bumper sticker LOL.
Thank you so much! I have been practicing for a month now and my PB was stuck at 41. I started to think about quitting and I found your video. God bless you!
I love this video! I’ve watched it a few times now :) If it wasn’t for you, I probably wouldn’t have had the constant desire to keep on improving everyday and wanting to travel around Australia to solve cubes competitively. Thank you so much!
I started cubing about a year and a couple of months ago, but I haven't been learning CFOP until 8 or 9 months ago, and I still lack almost half the OLLs. I currently average about 23 seconds but I'm very uneven in my solves, some of them are below 17 seconds while some others are over 30. To me, the fact that in one year you managed to break the 20 sec barrier is amazing, you truly are a terrific learner
Thanks for the encouraging video man Im at that stage you went through during those first few months of cubing... My pb is 29 sec... I literally spent about 12 hours that day learning 2 look oll and pll and the first time I used it in a solve I got that pb I've always had family issues and things but cubing is starting to bring me closer to my family too... We would always sit in silence and things but now we have something to talk about that I'm actually passionate about And yeah I'm starting to teach my younger cousins how to cube and the look on my 15 year old cousins face when he first solved it was one of the best things I've ever seen Thank for the inspiring and relatable story... I'm really thankful for picking up that cube 4 months ago because I've joined such a welcoming community ❤️
I recently commented on one of your posts how much I would like a video like this from you. 😂LAUGHING OUT LOUD😂. Glad I came across this gem. You’re very motivating and your videos are so positive and fun to watch. Thank you!!
This vid speaks to me dude especially about the sub-20 barrier. I have been speed cubing for like 2 years on and off and end up keep getting frustrated and quitting. I went to a comp and got a 18 second PB which made me continue speed cubing and i hope to average sub-20 regularly in near future.
This is really inspirational. I started about a year ago too and I average around 24-25 seconds. I do tend to get quite a few 18's though. This video has encouraged me to get better.
Side parenting note - I totally agree. Cubing is a surefire way to get my 12 year old son to hang out and, by extension, say more than ‘fine’, ‘ok’ , or ‘oh my god, Mom!’ Definite conversation starter and I’m grateful.
Hi from Brisbane, Australia! I just watched your video and I could definitely relate on a lot of things you said. My dad bought me a Rubik's Cube for my 13th birthday. It took me 1 hr to solve. After that, I invested a lot of my time in Rubik's puzzles by adding more to my collection, practicing for hrs everyday after school. I would bring it with me as my source of entertainment and company everywhere I went too. I used it as a coping mechanism in times of distress too. I would watch videos and besides using it to compare myself to those people, I'd also use it as a goal to keep believing in myself that one day I can be like them. The more I practiced, the better my score and now I'm 19yrs old and I feel like I am at a time in my life where I have built enough self-confidence to compete worldwide and be proud to represent my own country! (Of course not during this pandemic, but definitely after) XD
3:38 I reflect so much on that, I started cubing during lockdown so I basically only used UA-cam and talked on forums (Discord, ...) and I can't go to competitions
What a fantastic video! I'm also fighting the 20 seconds wall. This video motivates me! I wish you luck in cubing and in everything else you are going to do :).
Jygge thanks, same to you! I think comparison is one of the biggest enemies. And also the more you get better, the less quickly you improve, so it feels like it gets less rewarding. But yeah, that’s when I just tried new cubes and the variety helped in avoiding me being too depressed haha
This is awesome to watch. I can relate to your story quite a bit since I am only about 6 months into the hobby with a sub 40 average and something close to an addiction. One of my teachers taught me the beginner's method on his speedcube and from there I learned roux, which is the method I use now. I take my cube everywhere, including school and even my teachers have gotten used to be cubing before, during, and after class. Ideally, want to end the school year with a sub 30 😁
Thanks @JPerm for the share. This is a great video for not only cubers, dads, and Australia BUT A great video on setting and achieving a goal. From what it looks like to me, the journey was more enlightening than the destination Well done @Tingman
Thanks! Yeah you’re right, the journey is often just as great as the destination, if not better. Realistically we can’t maintain all these achievements our whole lives, but that doesn’t mean it was for nothing!
Hey, love tour channel just started watching just wondering if you could do a video explaining the f2l because I use you can do the cube and I want to now get mine faster, I tried learning f2l but I found it so hard, if you can do a tutorial or recommend websites then that would be amazing! Thanks so much and keep cubing and grinding
My son's friend asked me how to solve a rubiks cube. I said eh, I dunno, let's look it up. Wound up on a J Perm video. I'm a disabled combat veteran with a brain injury but this instruction was dope so I managed to solve it. I went "Ah that's fun" started watching other videos on J Perm and here at Tingman videos. Wound up ordering a speed cube off Amazon that showed up today (the next day.) Somehow I managed to solve once at around 3 minutes today even with slower hand eye coordination and reaction time. This hobby is dope. Thanks for this.
I started cubing around a year and a half ago. I’ve basically given up on 3x3. I haven’t been able to get sub-30 for so long. This video made me want to practice 3x3 more, since I saw your progress.
I used to be a speedcuber back then. In 2014 I was at my peak, averaging around low 15 (far from winning any competition, but pretty happy). For some reason I quit cubing and after almost 5long years of pause, last month I decided to grab my freaking DaYan Zhanchi (it was the beast at that time) and do an average of 50. Turns out I was still sub 20. I was pretty unmotivated because I was getting 25ish seconds times and forgot almost every OLL but after watching your video I got my motivation back. Just ordered a pretty expensive cube with magnetics (dont even know wat da heck that is) and I won't stop till I finally get my sub 10 single (my PB was 10.87 full step).
*I have 10 months of speedcubing, and i'm becoming sub-10, i'm going to my first competition in April!* *Good video btw m8, you have such a great history, i hope you continue getting fast, good luck, cheerings from Costa Rica, Pura Vida 💚!*
I learned how to solve it in eight grade with the help of my friend. We did it together and it was great, he doesn't cube much nowadays and I've actually gotten faster than him, cubing is a great hobby and I've had a lot of fun
I almost expected the cube to fall off the mountain- Anyways, good job, man! I’m waiting for my GoCube to arrive this Christmas in 2022, and it would be my first speed cube :) I know I’m like 3 years late, but keep up the good work!
This is kinda beautiful to see. the backround music is also well chosen. I turned 29 last week and never solved a 3x3. in 2018 I bought the rubiks brand cube at the local toyshop and it helped me through a difficult time. I solved it back in 2018 and put it down, but in March i picked it up again. I noticed I couldn't do it anymore, but I relearned it when I was at home bc quarantine. The beginner way is how I solved it...I know, but it's a start. Now almost every day I have the cube in my hand, trying to be faster. my average is about 40sec. I don't need to solve it in 10sec, but maybe in a certain amount of time I will give it a try to learn the other algorithms.
Oh man, your story is so familiar to mine in many ways! Except, I’m only 45 days into my journey. Like you I’ve set a 30 second average as my one year goal. I’m a little bit older than you though :) and yeah, I taught my two daughters and wife how to solve! But they aren’t too interested in speed cubing so I’m on my own there :) thanks for sharing.
I'm at around 4 months and I'm just glad that speedcubes gave me something to aim for. I'm someone who's always felt lackluster at the things I actually enjoy to do, and always gave up when I hit a wall, but speedcubes reassures me, since there's always something to get faster at and a way to get faster. Getting bored of 3x3? Pick up another puzzle.
Yeah I totally agree. Lately I've really gotten into big cubes and in some ways they feel like totally new puzzles. So much variety. Although sometimes it's a problem - I'm doing 10 events in an upcoming comp and it's hard to find time to practise each one!
I originally presumed that I would only watch for 30 secs, I was instead captivated throughout the entire video, amazing job on it.
Thanks that’s so nice to hear!
Saaaaame
Tingman love you and your videos so cool
Twistii Cuber the Justin Y of cubing is here! lol

I take my cube everywhere, including school and even my teachers have gotten used to be cubing before, during, and after class. Ideally, want to end the school year with a sub 30 😁
That's cool! If you keep it up, I'm pretty sure you'll end the year at sub 20. You can do it!
@@Tingman I'm sub 27 now!!
Ari KM that’s awesome!
Thanks @JPerm for the share.
This is a great video for not only cubers, dads, and Australia
BUT
A great video on setting and achieving a goal.
From what it looks like to me, the journey was more enlightening than the destination
Well done @Tingman
Got motivated by it.
My son's friend asked me how to solve a rubiks cube. I said eh, I dunno,
let's look it up. Wound up on a J Perm video. I'm a disabled combat veteran with a
brain injury but this instruction was dope so I managed to solve it. I
went "Ah that's fun" started watching other videos on J Perm and here at Tingman
videos. Wound up ordering a speed cube off Amazon that showed up today
(the next day.) Somehow I managed to solve once at around 3 minutes
today even with slower hand eye coordination and reaction time. This
hobby is dope. Thanks for this.
Why people dislike this video. He is showing appreciation for the people who helped him.
I started cubing around a year and a half ago. I’ve basically given up on 3x3. I haven’t been able to get sub-30 for so long. This video made me want to practice 3x3 more, since I saw your progress.
i average about 20 and want to archive more but i get frustrated but now seeing your story im motivated :)
3:43 That reminds me of Quabbin Summer 2019 (my only WCA competition)
Yay!J perm is so good.
Haha welcome back, you’ll love magnetic cubes. They are quite game changing.
i just started 1 month ago and this video gives me alot of hope and inspiration!
thank you for sharing your story!
This video is really great. You deserve more views and sub! :)
I don’t know why but this video gives me a lot of motivation, and it’s very well done, you are great
You are an inspiration thanks. Hats of the you bro.
Wow. Happy birthday
*I have 10 months of speedcubing, and i'm becoming sub-10, i'm going to my first competition in April!*
*Good video btw m8, you have such a great history, i hope you continue getting fast, good luck, cheerings from Costa Rica, Pura Vida 💚!*
Do u track 1st f2l pair in inspection.
@@magnuschanduru6173 Yeah, obviously not always, but when its possible to, i do.

@@magnuschanduru6173 That's nice, that definetely will help you improve faster, good luck!
I've been cubing for almost 2 months, and I average a few under 30 seconds, with a 22 second PB. I hope I can, at some point, get to your level!
I don’t know what but I keep watching this again and again. This vid is so good and addictive.
Excellent video! Very touching too!
almost 2 years now!
Jaque too true!!
happy late birthday! 🎂
Do a cube collection!! Like this
I learned how to solve it in eight grade with the help of my friend. We did it together and it was great, he doesn't cube much nowadays and I've actually gotten faster than him, cubing is a great hobby and I've had a lot of fun
Awesome man. Keep it up. Loved this video
Great! Nice job! Love your channel keep it up!
J perm was and still is the real teacher.
I almost expected the cube to fall off the mountain-
Anyways, good job, man! I’m waiting for my GoCube to arrive this Christmas in 2022, and it would be my first speed cube :)
I know I’m like 3 years late, but keep up the good work!
*Very Inspiring story*
You are too good at learning the cube man, great video man it’s an awesome story It’s like mine but better!
Amazing video great story loved it....
I've been Cubing less than a year and you're an inspiration to me.
All the best!
@@Tingman
The Rubiks cube may be some kind of toy/puzzle for most people, but to others...it's something more. :)
Wow. You really are a true inspiration my friend. This HAS to be seen by more people.
So happy I came across your channel! Thank you feed!!! (:
this channel is so wholesome
I just keep watching it over and over again. It’s so amazing🤧😪
Thanks for making this video, its really motivating
Remember when flagship cubes weren’t over $50 and didn’t have magnets
Hey
I learned how to solve it on April 18 last year. I can’t wait to reach my 1 year mark!
nice, mine will be on oct 24, 2020
Jaque thanks
Jaque thats close to my birthday, how fast are you?
@@Namuundoesstuff My pb is 34 sec and my average is 41 sec. how about you?
Love it! Very inspiring video 👍
Almost at another year through and I've just about cross the year mark myself! Perfect timing for this to pop in my recommendations, eh?
Keep up the vids!Amazing video!
Amazing channel! You deserve a million subscribers!
You just gave me inspiration
Dan Harris is my mum’s cousin! I think it’s nice how he could have taught you
Wow that’s very cool!
Congratulations bro ,very well done
