Add Apple Carplay/Android Auto Functionality to the OEM Factory Radio in the Gen 1 Audi R8

- Van Deursen (www.vandeursen.be/), a car electronic shop in Belgium (not the Netherlands as I incorrectly said in the video @ 2:00) offers a plug-and-play kit to allow you to add Apple Carplay/Android Auto functionality to the Audi factory radio units that ran the RNS-E firmware (such as the radio units in the Gen 1 R8).
Here is how you do it for the Gen 1 Audi R8.
For specific coding instructions, I've written a DIY post that goes into detail on how to code the radio unit for the Gen 1 Audi R8.

Further corrections I got from Van Deursen:
For cars with AUX, their kit still gives you the ability to use AUX in addition to Apple Carplay/Android Auto.
Adding touchscreen support will permanently change the screen, preventing your radio unit from reverting back to stock, which they do not support.

Love your ability to experiment and keep upgrading your R8! Keep posting more!!
More to come!
nice video,,,, she just keeps getting better..
😊 thank you
An aftermarket unit with the enfig kit makes better use of the rear backup camera and amplifier. Sound quality is better and rear camera image is more useable than the factory unit. And you get a higher resolution touchscreen. You do need to purchase extra hardware for satellite radio but with streaming services, it’s pointless unless you really want XM or whatever.
Yes, everyone knows that already. The whole point is to keep everything looking stock and OEM for this one mod.
Nice video mate, thank you. Are you getting the firmware from the website shown in the video? or specifically from Van Deursen?
Van Deursen will take care of providing you the firmware on a CD-ROM. It's an all inclusive kit.
Thank you@@ftwgarage
Hi great video, I've been waiting for something like this for a long time, I'm going to buy it.
What I also noticed is your steering wheel, which I would like to install. Does everything work? Do you have any disadvantages? How difficult is the coding
Yea the Gen 2 steering wheel buttons work, including start button. I made a video on the Gen 2 wheel install as well.
Great video, I picked up on one item you said “plug in my phone”. Does this support wireless CarPlay or is it only wired CarPlay?
The module in the video supports wired and wireless CarPlay
I need to find this for my b7 a4!
Have you found one
@@wass4096 nope but I did find the company. It has to be ordered from Sweden
i know someone who's able to make carplay added to rns-e led, in a4 b7 you need to get it from seat exeo.
I wonder if this would work with my aftermarket unit with CarPlay so that I can play videos on it
There products that allow that. Its a little usb box and it allows u to play UA-cam while moving. Google it
As long as your aftermarket unit can support video in motion
Can you make a video on how to upgrade the speakers and install aftermarket amplifiers on the R8? The stock sound system is disappointing :(
Haven't thought about upgrading the speakers. I'll look into it.
@@ftwgarage would love to see a video on that!
@@ftwgarage any progress on this request?👀
@@umersiddiqui92 on the back burner as I'm focusing on other priorities right now.
Done that and replaced the front drivers as they where shot. Added rear two way speakers and their own amp plus an active sub behind the passenger seat. Since the OEM screen is too small for my eyes, I decided to upgrade to an ALPINE Halo 9. That one came with a Cam output so I could add a rear cam as well. All a little messy and you need patience since room is an issue. It is however possible.
Anyone know if this would work on a S3 8P (2009)?
In theory it should work. I would contact Van Deursen so they can create a kit that works for your S3.
Hey Thanks for the video! I actually went on the website but I could not figure how to purchase it... Would you mind giving me a guide please?
You can email them: info@vandeursen.be or DM them on Instagram @vandeursenbe
Cost of this?
Around $600 when I got it a few months ago. I would contact Van Deursen for the most recent price.
