I am Brazilian and my family is from Bolivia (a neighbour spanish speaking country), so learn the Spanish language was something natural for me. Today I speak both Spanish and Portuguese in my house, and yes, knowing Spanish really helps a lot when learning Portuguese, they're really similar but stay aware from the huge wave of false friends that these two languages share and the slangs. Both Spanish and Portuguese are extremely diverse in slangs.

I only used Duolingo, and I was able to travel in Portugal for three weeks, no problem. I highly recommend it. I took a screen shot of every unfamiliar word or phrase and built a vocabulary list from there. I then memorized the material for 30 minutes daily. I suggest learning only a few words at a time - there's a reason our telephone numbers are only seven digits. Good luck!

My biggest struggle is hearing the words when I listen to Portuguese. I need to spend more time watching Brazilian movies and videos. Keep up to good work,

I recommend checking out Disney's animated movies (the good oldies too like Tarzan) dubbed in Brazilian Portuguese ^^ it's really good and the songs in the Brazilian version tend to sound even better than the original 🤭 if you're looking for TV shows to watch then I recommend the classic "A Grande Família" many brazilians grew up watching it (including myself) and it's hella funny kkkk
