A brightshade trap goes crazy during a frog rain, you get so much food out of it! The bone armor is definitely one of the best option to cancel the damage from the brightshades. Didn't want to mention it since it's another loot related to another end game boss, but you are totally right!
Oh ye definitely, it all depends of your usage of your farms too. In some cases, like the frogs or spiders, you only need one initial blow and the mobs take care of the rest. But in some cases you may want all three of them to activate to deal bigger damage numbers to the target. Really depends of what you want. The reason i used the sleep darts in the video was because i didn't want to cause any damage to the Brightshade, to preserve them a bit longer.

Deadly Brightshade don't spawn in the caves. They can spawn anywhere though above ground as long as there's a plant they can infect. Hope this helps!
