- Enjoy the scenery mountainous area of the spectacular Semering railway pass and more than 90 trains in the 1-hour long 4k video. Semmeringbahn is one of the oldest mountain railway lines in Europe. Due to the exceptional beauty of the landscape surrounding, as well as the outstanding architectural works created in almost two centuries ago, this line is one of the outstanding cultural and natural resources. This line passes through scenery landscapes of lower Austria Alps. Crossing over the mountain pass required the construction of several large railway line serpentines. Routing of the railway line required the construction of a wide variety of rail tunnels and viaducts. Old historical railway tunnels, galleries and viaducts along this railway line attract great attention with their beautiful appearance.
Today, this line is an important route for the traffic of numerous passenger and freight trains. This is the connection between the numerous European freight transport centers and ports on the Adriatic Sea. It explains the presence of large number of freight trains. This video shows the rail traffic in Austria at several attractive locations along this line:

@@heinerle456 Albeit, that's just the "regular" running side. All lines in Austria are equipped to operate in both directions on any track. It's more a matter of traffic planning and signage in the stations (e.g "Trains to XY -> platform 1").

Simply superb! There are many videos of European railways on UA-cam. In my opinion this is one of the best. Not only from the multiple locations, but the film truly shows the amazing engineering feat that the Semmering Railway is. I particularly enjoyed the extensive coverage of freight trains, particularly their rolling stock. I plan on photographing on the Semmeringbahn in late June. If you detrain at Breitenstein, can you hike to the two viaducts nearby for photography?

You're welcome Rick. Sorry for the late reply. Every viaduct can be reached by foot. There are nice hiking trails.

The regular track on the Südbahn [Southern Railway] route between Vienna and Spielfeld-Straß (international railway station A / SLO) was on the left. In August 2012, the Südbahn route between Vienna and Payerbach-Reichenau 50:57 was converted to right-hand-traffic operation. The occasion was the opening of the Lainzer tunnel in December 2012, which has since then connected the Westbahn (regular operation is on the right) with the Südbahn.
In December 2019, the double track line between Payerbach-Reichenau and Bruck an der Mur has been successfully converted to right-hand running. Since then the Südbahn operates with left-hand running south of Bruck an der Mur only. ÖBB intends to convert the line between Bruck an der Mur and Graz by the time the Koralmbahn opens in full.

You're welcome. If you want to visit this area you could stay nearby, like a Vienna. Semmeringbahn could be reached by train, but for specific location from this video you must go by foot.

4:45 they really just ship cars and vans out in the open on flatcars like that in Austria? Here in the US they're all in giant enclosed auto-rack cars because otherwise kids throw rocks at them.
There are also completely closed wagons or wagons with cages like in 38:00 , but in the past, european railways only used open flatcars or double-deckers (as in 38:00 but without the cage).
Eric J Austrian kids are more civilized.
Here in Norway we use both open and closed railcars for the transport of cars.
