Yes i did that route from Milano the Zurich by TEE 1971 , sitting in the Back Cab ... from swiss border to after getting near the Mittleland 20mins from Zurich ... was an amazing ride in the TEE ...
Thank you so much for this video. I reside in Glendale, Arizona, USA, just outside of Phoenix. I've always dreamed of visiting the Swiss Alps, but at age 60, I haven't had the means to do so, therefore, these videos that you create is the next thing to being there.
There are so many places and railways I have to see in my lifetime and this route is one of them. One of mankind's wonderful achievements, definitely on my bucket list.
The scenery is spectacular, and also amazing is the amount of labor that created this route. Yet we saw no other rail traffic on this video. Seeing those power lines that swoop across the valley impressed me.
this may have to do with the fact that the base tunnel was opened at the beginning of June and the video was uploaded at the end of June, if the recording took place on a Sunday in between it would be normal to see no freight trains and also the passenger trains only travel the mountain route when they have to serve the small railway stations, all others have since travelled through the base tunnel
Hello, fantastic this trip seen from the locomotive cabin. The landscape is breathtaking and so is the railway. The locomotive is a beautiful gem very well preserved. The video was very well done and even makes us feel like being inside the cabin. Of all the cab rides I've seen, this one is by far the best. Congratulations on doing it so well. Regards from Belo Horizonte, Brazil
Wonderful. Happy memories of 1950's motor holidays. Living in a Third World country, a mess called Great Britain, the cleanliness & efficiency of Switzerland makes we weep with shame.
@ Trolleybus So true mate.GB is a total mess!Love Switzerland with it's lovely scenery, cleanliness and efficiency.GB is claustrophobic by comparison...
Fascinating video. I did the return trip from Zurich to Locarno via Bellinzona in 1987. Terrific scenery, and the 3 circular tunnels were both a big surprise and quite spectacular. The change in height near the church was amazing. I have been working my way through my 35mm photo collection from that period and digitising it. I found some photos from where I was working in Locarno, and also from a trip around Lake Maggiore, but so far haven't found any from the rail trip. During the 80s I also visited Montreux several times and took the train from Geneva. One time I was their for a week, and commuted from Vevey. Excellent train service.
I've been through from the other side. We went from Locarno to Goschenen then took the narrow gauge train to Andermatt and Brig. Fabulous journey. You could see the narrow gauge train departing on the right as the train the video was taken from left Goschenen. It was winter when I travelled on that route so everything was covered in snow but the trains still ran immaculately to time. Swiss railways are brilliant.
Thanks for video. Brings back memories. I lived in the Ticino canton and took this trip many times both ways. I traveled out of Zurich International airport and always took the train to the airport as the morning train would have a special car which would be detached in Zurich and then taken to the airport.
Beautyful sights on a beautyful piece of railway. I only would like to see the same film without changing the speed in tunnels and variation of camera positions. A real ' watching forward' in real speed. But that 's my opinion. Still love it though.
Many thanks for your nice comments. I hesitated, but first it is almost all black and secondly, this can take some time. for instance only crossing the top tunnel, the Gothard one, takes about 20 to 25 minutes... maybe I can also upload the other version... i will think about that. Anyhow, many thanks and best regards
But when you drive through the base tunnel, you won't be able to see any of the beautiful mountain route. Even today, there are still swiss people who only travel on the mountain route in order to be able to see the church in Wassen three times on each journey.
if you look at the following video you can see how early in switzerland the trains were electric and how far it has developed until today, much more is technically not possible anymore ua-cam.com/video/FrMzNk3kZK0/v-deo.html
David Gandar I think so too - but what is the remedy? The sky is too bright and the dark tunnels battle with the auto exposure setting. What is the appropriate camera + setting for this sort of scenery?
I agree totally, religion only exists because people are scared what will happen to them after they die. Nothing happens, because you're fucking dead..lol

As a historian, I am so glad the old platforms are still extant (Airolo). Wonderful video. Thank you!
Happy that you liked it. All the best to you. Best regards
I agree. Schwanden (GL) was a perfect example of the old style platforms that I grew up playing alongside when I visited my relatives there.
Bellissimi posti ci ha passato la mia gioventù su quella zona 😘

Awesome, thanks for posting this!
A real pleasure... there will be more coming this Summer about Gothard, including the first dam providing electricity to the trains below.

It is a pleasure to share with our english speaking friends !
Molto bello ! Grazie e Cordiali saluti.
Happy that you liked the video, thank you for watching
Your idea of speeding up the video in tunnels is ingenious -- far better than most clips on here, where they just skip the long tunnels.
Happy that you liked the video, thank you for watching
tres beau !
heureux de vous avoir fait plaisir
wonderful

Just beautiful... thank you so much.
Does anyone know what the approximate temperatures would have
been on that lovely day?
Around 20 degrees in the end of the Summer in Switzerland
One of the very few videos where the colors that the wayside signals are displaying can actually be seen by the viewer of the video.
Happy that you liked it, many thanks
Very happy that you like it. have fun watching !
5:24 how do you changed your direction? I cannot catch this
you can drive from both direction that have both a pilot seat
A 15:45,à Goschenen, sur la droite,on voit un train du MGB partir vers Andermatt.
c'est juste. je viens de poster une vidéo sur ce train il y a une semaine !!!
Why no lights in the tunnel; that seems dangerous?
The title was misleading, that was not the old 9 mile Gotthard tunnel. I wonder if there are any cab rides through the old 9 mile GOTTHARD tunnel?
Good Morning, this video is indeed about the old 9 mile tunnel, that we cross towards the end of the video,
Chrominance..... I see....I was looking for a cab ride through the 15,003 meter tunnel at normal speeds. ....Thanks anyway! 😃

Big lights needed, like North American trains. Good use of editing to speed the tunnels.
Happy that you liked the video, thank you for watching
How do middle bogie get adjusted on turn?
Honestly I do not know, sorry !
Ae 6/6?
non, c'est pas une Ae 6/6, vous trouverez un autre film concernant cette locomotive. Meilleures salutations
@@Chrominancech mercy!
Unde este linia cu cremaliera ?
no
WHY?not Cabs lights on ın the DARK tunnel :(
cab lights were not that powerful
Can the BDe 4/4 run via the Base Tunnel?
It can, but, to my knowledge has never done so.
But when you drive through the base tunnel, you won't be able to see any of the beautiful mountain route.
Even today, there are still swiss people who only travel on the mountain route in order to be able to see the church in Wassen three times on each journey.
Good morning. I have a question for you. Was Robert Stephenson the chief engineer of the Gotthard tunnel and did he die of a heart attack?
no, it was Louis Favre, a guy from Geneva
So these train run on electricity?
yes, they do
if you look at the following video you can see how early in switzerland the trains were electric and how far it has developed until today, much more is technically not possible anymore

Such great scenery, why ruin it with churches.
Make the best of it, it will be a Mosque soon enough..
Too bad we can't get rid of ALL of these delusional, psychotic religions all together, the world might know some peace for once.
I agree totally, religion only exists because people are scared what will happen to them after they die. Nothing happens, because you're fucking dead..lol
