And there a several metropolitan areas sprinkled across the Country. From Berlin to Rhine/Ruhr to Rhein/Main, Hamburg to Leipzig/Dresden down to Stuttgart and Munich. Germany is smaller than California , but has more than double the amount people living there. The ICE takes under 4 hours for the route Berlin/München (the distance is a bit more than San Francisco/Los Angeles) Also: High Speed Tracks are used by slower trains, too.

Even French TGV Duplex which are the fastest European trains cannot made 300 km/h speed in Germany because Germany don't have +300 km/h rail trucks. France yes, but Germany no.
Leipzig-Nuremberg-Munich and Cologne-Frankfurt are 300km/h, the rest 250/280 km/h or 230 km/h. The government is planning more. But Berlin-Munich is now 3:54 for 623 km. Not bad. Please note that France with Paris is like a star, all lines towards the capital. In Germany there is Berlin, Munich, Rhein/Main with Frankfurt, Hamburg (each urban cities with several million population, and NRW with the most dense population from Cologne via Düsseldorf, Essen and Dortmund with 16 Million People. And all these have to be connected.
We need morr routes like this: Mobility between Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, Stuttgart, Frankfurt and Cologne would be possible in 3h or less. This way nearly nobody would fly!

I love those trains and also travelling in them (way more than the newer ICE4 which have a lower top speed). So sad that many many people don't understand how complex managing a train system is, thus complaing all the time because their train is 10 minutes late.

by the way, they are now building a ICE track in Florida, from Miami along the east coast to Orlando and from there to Tampa. The fantastic train station at Orlando airport is already finished and the train already travels from Miami to, I belive, West Palm Beach. The ICE is called something different there

Nice one @dulevoz !!! I have traveled by G533 high speed train in China from Beijing to Wuhan a distance of 1,055 KM in 4h16m - top speed 310 kmph ... after removing 6 mins for 2 stops, the average speed is a whopping 253 kmph !!! Stunning indeed !!!

It's fun to ride a 1000 cc sports motorcycle with top speed parallel to the ICE Cologne Frankfurt early on Sunday morning when there is little traffic on Autobahn 3. According to the speedometer 299 km / h, as fast as the ICE. But you only last a very short time. The wind pressure and the wind noise quickly become unbearable. Unfortunately, at other times, Autobahn 3 is completely clogged.
Great to see the spots where I filmed this train many years ago. Limburg is my home town and the "Westerwald"(a forest region in the cantons Hesse and Rhineland-Pflaz) is a great scenery to capture the ICE. Sadly, they repaired the tracks at some parts so the trains couldn't reach the 300 kph. Great video, I am glad you like the German railroad. Feel free to watch some of my old videos of this line. Thank you. It's really beautiful nature around Montabaur, which is continuous to the Rhine Valley. When I came to record, I did not know that the works were in progress. I noticed a greatly reduced train speeds. It's a pity, but I was lucky to found some line sections where trains can reach 300km/h.

I rode an ICE train from Berlin to Hannover and from Hannover to Amsterdam. Really smooth ride the whole way on both trains. Really nice trains.

Thanks for the video! I take the ICE from Montabaur and when the express comes through on the center tracks you can feel the draft. You are right that the sound is beautiful. (Wish I knew you were in the neighborhood, I would have bought you a cup of coffee (or a beer)!)
