after a long rest you can use find familiar rat to summon an enemy you can kill with bone chill. Use the staff of the cherished necromancy and even if you unequip it right after you can cast 6th level necromancy spells for free. Which means a tankier wizard or a busted harm spamming cleric.
I’ve been thinking about making like a Wizard 2 (Necro) / Cleric 10 Or potentially a Wizard (Necro) 6 / Cleric 6 I want to have summons but I also want to be able to throw a bunch of necrotic damage spells like Inflict Wounds to do big damage and then heal from those kills
Bone chill cantrip is a VERY underated cantrip I think: Many people will take poison spray or fire botl for the extra damage, but the Not being able to heal is HUT! if I have access to this, I will take it! if you play high elf or half high elf, take this perhaps? Then use your caster's spells to get mage hand, and light, or guidance, or minor ilusion, or some utility. Maybe somethign for close combat like shocking grasp or a cantrip that gives a save (like vicious mockery for bards). I had a bard with vicius mockery and chill touch (from the high half elf race) and then I had mage hand I think as my other cantrip from start, and that was SO effective since I could use spell slots to buff/debuff or save healing word for when a party member went down.
Noticed something weird about enemy zombies. If you hit one with Bone Chill to reduce it to 0 health, it won't proc Undead Fortitude due to Bone Chill's effect of health regen prevention. It won't die however - it goes into a dying state similar to a player companion. Haven't tested with player controlled zombies yet, but stands to reason it should be the same.
Bone Chill gotta be my favourite cantrip. Sure, it's d8, not d10 and the damage type ain't the best, but the healing denial just nulifies some enemys' survivability. Made the Lava Elemental fight super straightforward

note that you can just give the flying ghuls mage armour in camp, makeing them just better normal ghuls by any means (heh, funny how most necromancy attack spells are mostly useless, but its fun to use the broken staff in act 3, its not strong, but its fun)
There is not many tbh I really miss some spells from Neverwinter Nights, that game had so many great spells for Necromancer, especially later Pale Master.
Downloading the game atm. Though about making a Eldritch Knight Necromacer. But having to control all the undead minions sounded like a pain. But!! Guess I don't have to use minions, I can just use damage! Kinda want to recreate my RP DK from WoW, miss that guy. Haven't played WoW in years.
for that kind of character, I'd go with War Domain Cleric 2/Wizard Necromancer 10. between gear and ASIs, you can get wisdom and intelligence to 20 and use items to raise strength and constitution.
I would love to play a pure Necromancer, but when I have to jump over some chasms or whatever they all have to do the same which is quite annoying in this game.

I loved playing necromancer but it's been ruined by madness as they either work for you or they go mad and attack you. Having air mynion was great as can go in first and do most of the work but you don't need to be a necromancer to have this skill
These guys really not include toll the dead in BG3? Recently been using that on a fresh necromancer in tabletop for it being a D12 on injured, meaning I prefer lower initiative in fights. And in three short fights our DM has already started asking me "Okay Eric, who are you using Toll the Dead on?" when I'm out of spell slots.
@@Omaha01 It's a save/die cantrip with a 15 wisdom check. Deals 1d8 necrotic damage that's increased to 1d12 if the enemy is injured, even by only 1hp. You get an additional die at 5th, 11th, and 17th level, meaning a 17th level toll the dead on an injured target deals 4d12 for a max of 48 damage. Very useful as a follow up with low initiative, since that means you're usually casting after your rogue has already put an arrow into someone's arm. Also known as the low-level kill steal cantrip.
@@Omaha01 oh definitely. I think they didn't want the nonsense that is a save/die cantrip since that's more of a headache to balance than a hit/miss mechanic. Plus imagine if Shadowheart had it against the devil in your tutorial.

When you play necromancer your long rests are not determined by the amount of supplies but the amount of corpses you have collected.

Quick tips, contagion doesn't count as a hostile move. You can pre-apply it to a important enemy in advance if that enemy isn't hostile yet.
Didn't know that. That's actually very useful
So necromancer is all about debuffing your enemy and weakening them enough for your undead minions to finish them off. This I like!!

Yeah I'd say it's pretty decent. You can have an oathbreaker paladin in your party to make it even better
