I think Indiana Jones just redefined the entire adventure genre. This game is proof that adventure games don't have to use 'cover shooter' gameplay with hundreds of enemies. Just great story, exploration and amazing adventure. Thanks to this game, it became possible to create adventure games like 'Back to the Future', 'Around the World in Eighty Days' etc.
I remember a few months ago people were complaining about this game not being a 3rd person Uncharted/Raider. This is why you stfu and let creative people cook! Machine Games had a vision for this game and it is fantastic… except bc I want path tracing and my 4080 won’t cut it, but aside from that, it is awesome.
Also a good Star Wars Han Solo game for example, where most of the time he avoided fighting, but if something went wrong he knew how to fight back, and ofc we have Chewbacca eheh
@@javierper3zI’ll always prefer uncharted 4 to a game like this as it is my all time favorite adventure game, but i will definitely play and enjoy this in a different way.
I think that the fact that the main character is Indiana Jones himself colors how you play the game. He's a naturally curious person and if you play him like an easily distracted kleptomaniac it fits like a glove because he is always finding interesting and cool stuff.
@@88heisenberg88cuz these are the guys that made Youngblood. They haven't had an actual great game in almost 10 years. And I think this may be their first venture into this genre as everything else was FPS. All these reasons are why almost nobody expected it to be good

I enjoyed this game's story more than the last 2 movies. It definitely has the original trilogy feel, in story and tone. I would definitely play a sequel if they make another.
"Better than the last two movies" is a low bar to clear, but...i'm pleasantly surprised that people seem to like this. The last Indy game I played was one of the point-and-click LucasArts deals. His primary activities are exploring, puzzle-solving, fighting, and looting, so making a game outta that SHOULDN'T be that hard.

I had faith that the devs at MachineGames would give us yet another solid game based on an existing property. I did not expect it to be my favorite game this year. Between the fun, scrappy combat, excellent exploration, immersive sim-like elements, and arguably the best told Indy story since 1989, I guess I just needed a title like this.
Being as I'm old, this game really reminds me of riddick from the xbox.. Movie tie in, stealth, mostly melee, literal fight clubs, HUD is just squares, 3rd person ladders, etc etc Then I remembered machine games came from starbreeze so it all made sense. The riddick DNA is strong.

It's a bit expensive? Yes. Do I regret buying the premium for the future DLC, which I hope it's a full expansion? No. This game is an absolute gem, even if I got a few bugs, one of them that blocked me to progress in a mystery. I loved the whole adventure the first time, and I'm still enjoying it my second run.
I'm a huge indy fan and was prepared for it to just be a decent game. I'm so excited about how good it turned out to be. I'm hoping this turns into a series of games

I had plenty of reservations but I am really enjoying the game. Technically it is as polished as you'll ever see a game today, the production values UI etc are all the type of quality that we SHOULD expect from AAA developers, but let's face it, it's damn rare to get a release like this day 1, and it is much appreciated it. On the game itself - I just got through the first "area", the Vatican City. I tried to do as much of the extra missions, collectibles etc, playing in Hard. Combat could be better, puzzles are solid and fun,and nothing too challenging. Most of the game seems to be spent exploring and discovering secrets, I really enjoy that. To me where the game shines is the level design, it has a pseudo metroidvania structure with interconnecting paths that you can unlock as you progress through the different missions and side content, and many objectives have multiple paths that you can choose (or discover), and the level of detail packed into every inch of the level is fantasticc. it reminds me a lot of Dishonored. So far I would give it something like an 8.5-9.0. The voice acting, and the quality of the animations and graphics really make it very engrossing, discovering and exploring the caves and crypts feel exactly how you would want and wish an Indiana Jones game to feel. All the characters are interestingand well-presentedd, the only annoying character is the sidekick, which honestly does nothing butdetractst from the experience so far. It would have been amazing to see Marion be included (maybe she is later on?), though not sure if that messes with the canon.

I'll admit I was one of the people who didn't have a lot of hope for this game based on the previews, so I've been pleasantly surprised that it's both good and functions on release lol
I played 15 hours in early access and enjoyed it so much I started again on the release date. I agree the AI is not very good but I think that is by design as the Natzis in Indiana Jones are only there to fight if you are discovered. He is not a man of violence and should be a last resort. My restart is even better because I am not just randomly trying stuff but following threads and distractions more naturally. Loving it this is the best Indiana story since the original Lost Ark. Great review by the way👍
Hey Mort. Well done on passing the 350k sub mark.... 75k views in one day on your videos is definitely nothing to be sniffed at. Love to see someone genuine having success in a crowded market ❤️❤️
Perfect Game Pass game. You can 100% it within a month even if you have limited time, its a single player action adventure with a great story which means one playthrough to experience the main story and another to 100% it so youll likely never come back to it so might as well "rent" it. The AI is derpy but i felt like they were fairly well balanced at least. Enemies are annoying enough to make me WANT to go stealth but not so annoying that i alt+f4 and retry from a checkpoint. If i get found, im perfectly fine with just going with the combat flow and seeing how many random things i can heave at enemies until i can get away. Overall its definitely one of the best games ive played this year but because its basically a linear, interactive movie, i dont see myself buying it once ive completed it, even at a discount.
As an Achievement Hunter, thank you. I really appreciate your reviews focus on the game after experiencing the entire game, not just 4 hours of gameplay.
Dude, you’re a machine. How do you compete these games and get out videos so quickly. Glad you liked it. I don’t have a new Xbox or so I’m going to try and stream it through Xbox cloud.
Can the 4/1 video next year be about 100%ing your taxes and explain how the write-off mechanic works? I only use basic character sheet and could use some build advice. Thnx
This game is the most pure fun that I have had with a video game in a long time. It even surpassed Red Dead Redemption for me, which I played for the first time this year. It's such a good mix of exploration, action, puzzles, and story. Machine Games really nailed it.
Randomly jumped into this on Gamepass not at all expecting much and once I got past the fact it isn't TRYING to be the norm I am in adoration. It totally goes for a the back to basics approach to actual enjoyment and gameplay fun. Will you laugh your head off at the 'stealth' and combat , yes relentlessly. But it perfectly encapsulates the over the top slapstick style of the movies (the good ones ....) The exploration comes alive in first person , far more engaged than I have been before. Puzzles are not going to tax most but do feel "right" - being fun to complete even when obvious and as stated not monsters that destroy the pacing of your adventures! It looks gorgeous and uses RTX so effectively without any frustrating overly dark areas. The story is wonderful (so far) and the lack of unnecessary gore and guts meant one of my sons is eagerly awaiting dad's next relaxing hour !! It feels so much better this dropped now , at a moment where AAA is just depressing on the most part. DON'T expect uncharted DON'T expect farcry Expect fun :)
What made this game for me was seeing the ID Tech Engine 7 for the first time and handled in a way that blew unreal engine 5 out of the water! And yeah, some of us get tired of hearing about Troy Baker in "every" videogame as of late, but he nailed Indy in this game and the story was AAA in my opinion! Great job Machine Games!
The game is great, runs great and is original. These are three values that are missing by 90-99% of games nowdays.Thats why it should be a contender in the game awards 2024. Maybe not GOTY(even though it has a fair chance), but it could win a couple of categories.
The action seems to be "Indiana Jones and the Bonk Simulator" but I love the hidden stuff, field work, and exploration of the open area. Super fun for us OCD folks!
This game is absolutely incredible, some of the most fun I’ve had playing a video game in a good minute. Was streaming it for my buddy and we were losing it whenever I would smack people over their heads with a shovel 😭
While I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about a first person adventure game it’s quickly grown on me. And as much as I’m getting tired of Troy Baker I will admit he does a good Indie. And the modeling really captured Ford’s likeness. The game game crashed on me when I reached Vatican outskirts but I’m looking forward to playing more
The game is also very expensive on steam in Australia, even though Bethesda published games usually get discounted pretty quickly. I don't know if this is part of a strategy to funnel people to game pass or not.
To be fair, all those AI comments were in the movies lol, especially the lining up part. Remember that tank shot going through like 5 guys in a line in the last crusade 😊
I am loving this. I mean I am a huge Indiana Jones fan anyway so I was hoping. But its been such a long time since we had a good Indy game (I would say Fate of Atlantis was the last really good one) I kind of tempered my expectations. I think it might surprise people with how different it is from what they might expect from the lead up. Its quite slow paced but in a good way. Lots of exploration and investigation as you poke around and put clues together and I like that. It took me 16 hours just to get out of the Vatican area because I wanted to savour it. Just in Gizeh now and having just as much fun. The price is a sticking point as it really is quite expensive ($120 here in Australia, so about $40 more than your usual $80 AAA game). If you love Indy as much as I do, its worth the price of admission right now, but if you are on the fence and don't have the nostalgia I do for the character, wait for a sale.
@@JC-mf7zn The only reason i can see for him/her to be blown away is that they never played or looked at good looking game in the 1st place cuz if he/she did then saying blown away by its looks is just cap 💀
That "tax right off" line was real. 😂 How many internet people are real like that? Even some of my favorites seem like they're trying to get pity points when they say "I paid for this"
I like puzzles but at the end of the day after work I kinda want to get through them mostly to experience the game. But it’s pretty amazing game so far. I like the exploring and combat.
Need help I’m stuck underneath the Vatican I need the whip to swing across the hole on the screen is says “RB” for the whip but for some reason there’s no whip any ideas
I first got the dishonored vibes when I was climbing up to rooftops in the Vatican and the moment it clicked I have been hooked since (dishonored 1 is one of my favorites)
I'm only a few hours in, but I have a very similar opinion of the game to you so far: Really fun and engaging design, but I wish the AI were more aggressive/intelligent and that you could make manual saves. Maybe they will add those in a later patch? If not I still like it a lot so far and would definitely recommend it to anyone with Game Pass.
It's funny how other games are inspired by Indiana Jones like Tomb Raider and Uncharted. And now this one since the N64 version has come a long way. Giving me the same vibes I felt seeing Star Wars Dark Forces for the first time.
Please buy this y’all if you’re Interested. Show these devs some support especially the stalker 2 ones. I feel like all we do is rent games now instead of owning them
Still playing the game on the Vatican part and I'm enjoying doing the side quests while having the main objective. Loving the melee attacks 😅 hoping to finish the game 100% and those damn puzzles! Lol
When you pause the game, it tells you how long since your last checkpoint was saved, the game seems to save quite often, so while it is an issue, I thankfully didn't found it to be such a big deal.

I’m playing on GeForce Now and it’s a delight. Truly a great gaming experience.
Definitely excited to check this out whenever it drops for PS5
Xbox really needed a win so I’m happy for them. Clearly there is still some talent left at machine games unlike some of the other Bethesda studios. Looking forward to playing this one and hope it sells well.
A very surprising game of the year for me.
I'll admit I was one of the people who didn't have a lot of hope for this game based on the previews, so I've been pleasantly surprised that it's both good and functions on release lol
The review I was waiting for! I trust you!
Great review by the way👍
Yay I was waiting for your opinion
It’s way better than I thought it would be! Amazing!!
What a refreshing surprise. This genuinely is probably game of the year.
You do realize they get them early buddy it’s not that impressive
Finally happy to be an Xbox user. This game is really good
Love this game so much! Probably my favourite adventure game of all time. It’s so well done and genuinely feel unique and fresh.
Great review
Don’t run on the deck, don’t run in my heart 😂 Thanks for the review. Looks great!
Yeah, definitely the biggest surprise this year (in a good way)😁
Damn good game. Wanted an Indy game like this all my life
Can't wait for this to come to PS5 so I can give give it a go. Looks great.
Just finished the story today. Took about 35 hours, now to clean up all the achievements. It’s a 9/10
Can the 4/1 video next year be about 100%ing your taxes and explain how the write-off mechanic works?
But it perfectly encapsulates the over the top slapstick style of the movies (the good ones ....)
The exploration comes alive in first person , far more engaged than I have been before.
DON'T expect uncharted
DON'T expect farcry
Expect fun :)
The only reviews that matters.
Indiana Jones and The Great Tax Write-Off
What made this game for me was seeing the ID Tech Engine 7 for the first time and handled in a way that blew unreal engine 5 out of the water! And yeah, some of us get tired of hearing about Troy Baker in "every" videogame as of late, but he nailed Indy in this game and the story was AAA in my opinion! Great job Machine Games!
Something I have always wondered is where did the artwork from your intro/outro card come from.
The game is great, runs great and is original. These are three values that are missing by 90-99% of games nowdays.Thats why it should be a contender in the game awards 2024. Maybe not GOTY(even though it has a fair chance), but it could win a couple of categories.
I really wana play this game, can’t wait for it to come out on ps5
The action seems to be "Indiana Jones and the Bonk Simulator" but I love the hidden stuff, field work, and exploration of the open area. Super fun for us OCD folks!
Hands down the best "Indie" game of the year
Troy Baker is so great as Indy man. He even sounds like Harrison Ford to a degree. So far I’m loving this game, it’s suspiciously great.
This game is absolutely incredible, some of the most fun I’ve had playing a video game in a good minute. Was streaming it for my buddy and we were losing it whenever I would smack people over their heads with a shovel 😭
Looking forward to Indiana Jones and the chamber of Azkaban
What about Indiana Jones and the goblet of the ring of power? Can't wait for that one!
Tbh I’m way more excited for Indiana Jones: Revenge of the Sith
0:07 - 0:10
I'm blown away at how good this game looks 😂
Why tho? there are many games that look visualy more better even without raytracing. Its decent looking but not at level of blowing away.
@@gghhoosstt1233Maybe the game exceeded this persons expectations. The said they were blown away, not that it was the best ever. Opinions are ok.
@@JC-mf7zn The only reason i can see for him/her to be blown away is that they never played or looked at good looking game in the 1st place cuz if he/she did then saying blown away by its looks is just cap 💀
@gghhoosstt1233 lmao, what are you on about? I play at 1440p on PC most of the time. This game looks amazing imo.
@Anetonix what does the game looking good have to do with 1440p 💀
That "tax right off" line was real. 😂 How many internet people are real like that? Even some of my favorites seem like they're trying to get pity points when they say "I paid for this"
I like puzzles but at the end of the day after work I kinda want to get through them mostly to experience the game. But it’s pretty amazing game so far. I like the exploring and combat.
35 hours is fairly long. so not sure why the comment about the price considering there are other games that are much shorter
Need help I’m stuck underneath the Vatican I need the whip to swing across the hole on the screen is says “RB” for the whip but for some reason there’s no whip any ideas
Thanks for the review. I hope the game sells well.
Great Circle UA-cam Jazz 🎶
I first got the dishonored vibes when I was climbing up to rooftops in the Vatican and the moment it clicked I have been hooked since (dishonored 1 is one of my favorites)
This game rules... 5 hours in.
I'm really enjoying this game . Love exploring and wondering round. Grate game 8/10 .
This is the next Dishonored game we never got. Its great
Please, we want a remake of the Fate of Atlantis with the same approach.
I feel like all we do is rent games now instead of owning them
Great review . I hope you do a review of Metaphore Rfantazio .
He did. ua-cam.com/video/VKLvwBSISkM/v-deo.htmlsi=zK3OgAWV04rSoxeF
I will gift this game to myself for christmas, gonna watch the trilogy again before
