Michael Brown was only 18 y/o when he wrote this song and "Walk Away Renee". How in the world could he write such profound & beautiful songs at that age?
I requested this of many. You, Lee have answered and I am stoked. This is one of those songs that once you hear it, you will rejoice every time you hear it again. Well, that’s my take.
Written in Lydian mode which helps give it that melancholy and haunting feel. !6 year old Micheal Brown in love with his bandmate's girlfriend Renee Fladen. Heartbroken teenager.
This song and “Walk Away Renee” were written by pianist Michael Brown about his infatuation with Renee Fladen-Kamm who was the girlfriend of his bandmates Bassist Tom Finn.
I came across your reaction to "Even In The Quietest Moments" today and really liked your analysis and subscribed. I decided to start going through your playlist to listen to all your Supertramp reactions from your first to the latest and then gradually listen to your other reactions that I want to watch to catch up in the coming days. But when I came upon this one I had to watch it immediately. I absolutely love this song and usually listen to it once or twice a week. The music is so haunting and the crazy part of the song is the lyrics. It's the fact that not one of the lines in the lyrics rhymes with each other and I'll bet a majority of people listening to this song don't even realize it. I just noticed it recently myself even though I've known the song from the time it was released.
I was 18 years old, when this came out! I loved this song. This song came out, before the drug scene came on.The Drug era, destroyed a lot of oeople, nothing to brag about! It almost destroyed me!
The Left Banke never recorded a bad song. They have a pretty extensive catalog. If you like Mike Brown's songwriting, check out his work with Stories, The Beckies and Montage. Any questions? Ask me. They were friends of mine. They have all passed away.
Two more songs I highly recommend you check out from this band 'n album: I've Got Somethin' On My Mind 'n She May Call You Up Tonight. I fully expect you to love 'em as much as I do...
I've never heard this before! Wow! I love it. Never knew they wrote Walk Away Renée, thanks for that... love the oboe in the middle and it makes me think of I Can't Let Maggie Go by Honeybus (1968).
oh i'm so glad to see you did this, but only 825 views for this masterpiece, sad. i love this song. i was 13 when this came out. the vocals are amazing right? it's called 'baroque pop' i guess.....and you're wrong it was popular, the B side to walk away renee. you have to remember 1967 was an embarrassment of riches in music.
Compare this song to Boston's More than a Feeling and you'll find the similarity in the lyrics. "Just close my eye and she'll be there" and "I closed my eyes and she slipped away."

I believe that he was 16 when he wrote them. :)

Love this song-as a teenager when it came out it was so different and romantic sounding

So glad you listened to this tune. It's one of my favorites-so unique, haunting and beautiful.
Such a pretty and sad song. Loved it at age 13 and still do at 70.

A perfect little song of 60s melancholy sunshine
Beautiful song
I LOVE this song
Amazing group during their short-lived existence. Lots of "splinter groups," one of the best being the shorter-lived "The Beckies."
I wasn't always a music buff but now I am. Thanks for your review of this fantastic song.🎉🎉

I’m sorry to hear it… their legacy lives on. Thank you my friend.

If it's Baroque, don't fix it.
Wouldn't you fix it in that case? :D
Jason Falkner did a wonderful cover of this. Really worth checking out.

I was looking for rock stars on the Sunset Strip
Beautiful Song
Please consider doing some Leon Russell song like "Queen of the Roller Derby and Masquerade. Thank you.
The Devil's note can create a certain feeling. Awkward, uncomfortable but nice.

Tom Scholz said that he was inspired by the song Walk Away Renee. :)
Teenagers Michael Brown wrote it and Carmelo Esteban "Steve" Martin Caro sung it.
You’re very cute. I like your choices.
