Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble was the band name.
"Double Trouble" Is a reference to heroin and cocaine. He was way into the drugs in the early years and cleaned up in the later part.

Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jeff Healey “Look At Little Sister”. SRV is a legend worldwide , and Jeff is a legend here in Canada. He was blind , and plays the guitar in a way you’ve probably never seen. RIP to both greats.

The whole album Texas Flood is killer. The song he wrote for his wife Lenny damn near brings me to tears every time I hear it and I've been listening for many years now... he could play blues like nobody else. The guitar, the extra heavy strings, and his dropped tuning just makes his music bleed some powerful emotion.
I’m 20 and I love this music and 70’s music. Great great stuff. SRV will give anyone goosebumps. RIP big man.

One thing that people often overlook are Stevie’s band mates, Tommy Shannon on bass and Chris Layton on drums. As a three piece they were TIGHT, and the two of them could not only keep up with SRV, they also helped fill that incredible sound.

I was listening back in the early in the 1980's and he was killing it. He got me through 2 combat tours in Kuwait and Iraq in the first gulf war. I cried the day he died!!!!! You cant change it, you can't rearrange it. Time is all that we got, so baby lets take it!!!!!!!

This concert was recorded in ‘83 as Spandau Ballet, Culture Club, and Prince doin’ Little Red Corvette crap was hitting big. You should probably stick with that kind of music, Brucie, because you obviously don’t understand electric blues.
SRV was a blues guy, through and through. He could play rock, funk...really, any style, but blues was his sweet spot. A good early example for Stevie playing something outside of blues is “Let’s Dance” by David Bowie. SRV did the guitars on that tune.
Oh! He could also do surf rock! There’s a great version of the surf classic “Pipeline” done by SRV and Dick Dale.
He played most of the tracks on the Lets Dance album.
I love watching people see him playing behind his back for the first time. Everyone's jaw drops to the floor.

Dad's often times pass on good music. I heard so much great music through my dad; ZZ Top, Black Sabbath, SRV, Allman Bros, Skynyrd, Janis and the list goes on...
My mom gave me the Everly Brothers and I'm grateful for them too. Different from dad's music for sure, but very talented in their own right. Besides, it's good to be well rounded when it comes to music. There's just too much good music out there to be snobby and miss out!

Stevie Ray was a grand master of the blues guitar, saw him play twice and ill NEVER forget it.
I saw Stevie who was opening for Ray Charles at Seattle Festival for $7. Didn't know who SRV was but omg we were sweaty messes after his set! We bought tickets for his next tour but he died in a helicopter crash at age 35. Was devastated. Such a presence and a talent. RIP SRV 💞✌🎸
No one played with more soul, difficulty, passion and perfect technicality than SRV. Always do SRV live to get the full experience. Notice he rarely looks at his hands. He and the guitar were one!

This is Stevie's last appearance on Austin City Limits...no cocaine involved, he had been clean and sober for 2 years...his playing got better when he was clean...I saw him in concert that year, he was amazing!

He couldn’t even read music and was self taught. Hung out in bars and venues where all the greats played and learned from them. He played better behind his back than some do in front.

He's a Texas blues artist. It's a mix of rock and blues. But he has some videos where he is extremely bluesy

Trying to separate Rock and Blues is like trying to separate Country and Western. All Rock is based in the blues.

The El-Mocambo is bar in Toronto by the way. It is famous for having the best bands in just for a jam session. The Rolling Stones performed there back in 1977.
If you really want to hear Stevie play a “ grown up” song you have to watch and listen to Riviera Paradise, live in Austin ,Texas. It’s a whole different vibe to his playing. It doesn’t have his usual shredding or upbeat music, but it will make you appreciate him at another level with his tone and composition of this song. Just “watch and listen”.
Cant help but love how he's pouring everything he has into the guitar. A true legend!

Stevie played how he felt at the time. Watch him perform the same song from a different show and it'll be different but always good.
He plays over his head, with his teeth, and backwards in front of him as well basically the guitar is in front but facing him. Checkout “little sister” I believe from capitol theater in Texas he has an amazing guitar switch after he breaks the string and you can’t even tell just by listening he had to switch guitars
In the ‘80s there was such a thing as Blues-Rock. Heavier than normal blues but still blues. Stevie Ray Vaughan, George Thorogood (Bad To The Bone), Los Lobos etc.

Stevie was 100% blues. Black, white, it don't matter. We're all brothers and sisters, and soul is universal. The playing behind the back bit was fun. Reminds me of Hendrix playing the guitar with he teeth and behind his head. Peace, love, and health to all.

Im glad you did a reaction to this video because you witnessed the best guitar player that ever lived. He picked up where Jimi left off. Whats a trip is that Stevie and the best crooner that ever lived, Luther Vandross spent a lot of time in the beginning of their careers with a dude named David Bowie. God blesses us every 30 years or so with a single person that is heads and shoulders above everybody in their line of work, hence, Stevie Ray, Luther, Michael Jordan, Miles Davis, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Michael Jackson and list list is short but it goes on. Its just very sad that God usually calls the folks home early, Stevie at 35, Luther at 50, Michael jackson at 50, Miles at 61, etc.
I was fortunate enough to Stevie Ray Vaughn twice. The last time I saw him was August 18, 1988 at Merriweather Post Pavilion, in Columbia, MD. Two years later on August 28, 1990 he died in a helicopter crash. His performances were a sight to behold.
Think I this. He hadn't even hit his prime when he passed! He was indeed a guitar monster!! Miss you Stevie.
This is Texas Blues. Extra distortion and ridiculous attitude. Stevie was the best of that particular genre. A true stud who was influenced mostly Albert King as a child but grew up in a new scene. I highly recommend his collab with Albert King live. Some of the best blues I've ever heard.
His music helps to induce that “Stank Face.”
You can see the soul drops running down his face. I love the way he steps up to the microphone wanting to sing, and his body just won't let him stop playing guitar. Seeing him live wasn't a concert, it was a life experience.
I think he called it Texas Blues that is one deep rabbit hole well worth taking the dive
Stevie Ray Vaughan is rock,blue hall of fame. Stevie started playing at 7 year's old turned professional at 12 year's old. He played 13 gage strings other's play 9 to 10 gage. He plays with grit and passion Stevie is the "GOAT" in my opinion the band is called double trouble God bless.
Elmore James, Lonnie Mac, and Albert Collins....his influences....listen to them and you'll hear it for sure

This performance has always been one I think is one of the greatest of all time. He is one with that guitar. Some kind of higher power taking over him. Raw talent? Just lots of practice? No. There's something else going on here. Something we can't explain or understand. But you can feel it. In your soul.
You probably already know this but Voodoo Chile was a Jimi Hendrix song that Stevie was covering. That's why that one sounds more rock and roll. Stevie could play it all but he is mostly a blues musician.

Larry Davis first recorded this song in 1958. It is blues, so was Stevie Ray. The band, Tommy Shannon and Chris Layton, are called Double Trouble.
I think he was more blues. But at one point in his career had a hit record and crossed over into Rock radio play, and ever since was extremely well liked and respected by both rock and blues fans and guitarists.
This performance here is out of this world...and the whole Mocambo concert is a monument in music history if u ask me...Stevie Ray Vaughan played straight out of his soul every time he picked up that guitar...and everyone who has a soul can feel that power vibe of emotions that comes flowing out of that poor strat...RIP Stevie Ray🎶❤️

His main influences were Jimi Hendrix who showed what you could do with a Fender Stratocastor and several American blues guitarists like BB King and Albert King to name just two.

Stevie's voice, playing and passion, still resonating on this day, the thirtieth anniversary of his untimely passing when he was called home and he took his immense talents with him back from where they came.

His band was named Double Trouble. He played with his brother, Jimmie who was also in the Fabulous Thunderbirds which is another fanatic band you should check out. Nick Curran (another insanely talented guitar player whose life was cut way too short) also played in the Thunderbirds for a while.
