As one cousin of mine put it while going through the show: “I have never seen a character who made me find new ways to hate him. He was already scum, but he somehow found new ways to make himself *worse.* It’s amazing.”
Well he kicked and BURNED Dany to death and that's apparently Araki's (the author) very own personal way of telling you a person is a piece of shit, since Araki loves dogs. That's also why Kars actually saved a dog, he isn't an actual bad person, he just wanted to reach the peak of evolution and literally all he did was kill people who opposed him.
@@runtergerutscht4401 I mean... he orchestrated the genocide of his entire race for his own personal gain aside from a sympathizer and a child he kidnapped. Most people would call that being a bad person.
Giorno might not be the most interesting Jojo, but Part 5 certainly holds the some of most interesting themes, supporting characters, and battles in the series. Love the vid, but I can't take someone dissing one of my favorite story arcs without saying something
You should really give part 5 a chance. Giorno might've seemed like a boring character when you read the manga, but that was because the fans did a poor job at translating the dialogue. You'll probably like the part better now that it's animated and voiced by professionals.
Personally I thought the anime adaptation of Part 5 was worse than the manga. Its my second least favorite part of the manga, but in the anime it jumps to my least favorite.
Idk but while Giorno in himself isn't that interesting of a character, the side cast is great. I mean who doesn't love Mista, Narancia, Bruno and the "shut the fuck up, Giorno nobody gives a shit about your dream" man.
Objectively untrue. Giorno is very boring Gary Stu-ish character, and that part suffers because of bad villain with very weak motivation, horrible companion cast with mostly very unimaginative stands and not that strong comradery. (Mista is very unfunny and has tons of screen time, and Narancia's idiocy is exhausting.) Only Assassins shine in this part and skipping it honestly actually has no drawback to overall Joestar lineage as it is basically a spinoff. Such wasted oppurtunity, instead of climbimg in mafia chierarchy it turns into typical villain of the week shonen the moment certain banana gets its trigger pulled.
I think Neutral Evil first. He uses the law, yes, but ultimately he'll do whatever will benefit him any means necessary. He does, however, land firmly in Chaotic Evil by the end.
For the stairway scene, I'd argue that it makes more sense as Chaotic Evil, mainly because the main purpose was to gaslight Polnareff rather than just for the giggles
I know you're getting a lot of flak from Giorno fans, but if you became a fan around 2008, I seriously recommend you read some of the better-translated scans or watch the anime for part 5 if you haven't already. Also, finally, somebody who appreciates the OVA, I mean - duh, of course you've seen it, that was some of the only JoJo till 2014, but man, DIO's world? The way he silently teleports? That one scene where he pulls a knife out of his shoulder??? Sooooo goood.
Personally, I thought he'd be farther into Chaotic Evil then he ended up being. Don't get me wrong, I clicked on the video specifically to see the Dio bubble go so far into Chaotic Evil that it left the colored section of the chart, but that doesn't seem to be how you do alignments.
He also has a lot of Neutral Evil traits especially when it comes to his overwhelming selfishness. Everything he does is for his own personal benefit regardless of whether his methods are lawful or chaotic. A truly pure chaotic evil character would not be an effective organizer, as we see with Dio as he gathers minions and creates elaborate schemes to get his way, because they could not understand the value of a lawful approach. Plus there are many instances where it seems like Dio is performing evil for evil's own sake rather than his own. Lawful Evil characters use evil as a tool to advance their purposes and Chaotic Evil characters embrace evil as a consequence of their natural behavior but only Neutral Evil characters will commit evil for its own sake and Dio's most particularly cruel and ultimately unnecessarily depraved actions seem to portray him this way.
I still think Giorno is still a good character and can actually be interesting the more you examine and his role throughout the story. He possess the traits from both Jonathan and Dio. Two fathers, each one that are the epitome of Good vs Evil. He has such a huge effect on the characters as a whole and has one of the most creative and handy Stands out of the whole Jojo franchise. His goal to be a Gangstar and stop drug dealing was something I did find cool as it was a noble goal and was willing to achieve anything in order to reach it. The backstory of this character wasn't too complex and was good enough to explain how Giorno even having a hard life he still made something of himself when Dio didn't. Strong parallels between Father and Son.
I've seen someone point out that Jotaro and Giorno are tarot-level inversions of Jonathan and Dio. Jotaro is what could have happened if Jonathan had gone bad, and Giorno is what could have happened if Dio had gone good. The fact that Gold Experience starts off doing similar things to what Jonathan's untrained Hamon did to greenery, in the same way that DIO and Jotaro's soul punchghosts have the same ability, further draws what kind of person Giorno is despite being raised in similar circumstances to Dio. He's still not my favorite JoJo, that honor's currently in a mexican standoff between goodest boy Jonathan and Johnny the sarcastic asshole, but GioGio really doesn't deserve the flak he gets just because Part 5 isn't Parts 3 or 4.
@@neoqwerty Jotaro is not Jonathan if he's gone bad, he is just a good guy with a rough exterior. Jotaro doesn't even kill anyone except for Dio, compare to Giorno who almost killed everyone he faced except for Bruno.
I didn't even watch the series and still thought that he would be chaotic evil. It's pretty impressive for a character to be so popular that even people that doesn't know the narrative his in very well can tell how he's acting
I feel like Dio would make sense starting as some sort of neutral, probably chaotic. So much of the evil that he creates later on stems from his terrible upbringing and having to survive practically on the streets for most of his young life. Granted, he immediately delves into evil, so his neutrality wouldn't last long. Also, there might need to be a bit of distinction between Dio Brando and DIO, considering all the stuff he does in between being released from the coffin and the first time we see him in Stardust, like his relationship with Pucci or him knocking up several women.
Jesus with Part 5 Hate. I started on that and I really love so, introducyion bias, but still :/ EDIT: the fast forward part is what I was talking about. Not sure about the manga, but anime gave no hint that Giorno was child of rape, only that he was unwanted : /
It's like people forget that *Dio is hot* and there would be no shortage of morally questionable women throwing themselves at him. Mariah and Midler both state that their attraction to DIO is the main reason they stay loyal! And DIO probably doesn't use them for making babies only because they're more useful as assassins to him! Also they don't factor in that his entire thing with Erina is mostly fueled by the fact that he sees her, like Danny, as something JoJo had first so he wants to either steal or ruin her to further torment Jonathan.
UA-cam recommendated character: Ains Ooul Goun from the Anime OVERLORD. He is a regular human that is forced to role play as a powerful lich with an army of monsters that many dislike or hate humans. Plus being an undead there is a dampener on his emotions and feelings of killing and murder. This could be a very fun one to do a alignment check
I was watching your some of your What D&D alignment video and noticed some FE reference... because of that I spent a few days trying to find out what would be a good FE character to suggest for this series... and I think I have the perfect character... It is Berkut from Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia.
Joel Sasmad my problem with the alignment of the 3H lords are that... 1. The will start out being around the lawful/good and most likely stay there (like most FE Lord). With the expectation of one. 2. The different route splits and the fact there is no canon route.
I think I have an interesting idea for a character when it comes to what alignment they could be: Xavier from “Xavier: Renegade Angel”. The guy seeks to help people and enlightenment, but not only is it for a self serving purpose that he’s too arrogant to even understand deeply but he also ends up making everything worse around him. (Also great video by the way!)
I'd argue Dio is hard lawful evil, his biggest trait is pride and nearly everything he does is to fuel his pride. He had many chances to win but didn't take the easy win. He ruined Jonathan's childhood because he hated how he had an easy and peaceful life. He could of lied to Jonathan about his father's pride, but the idea of it drove him to rage. He could of easily killed Jonathan in the mansion but he would rather toy with him, believing that he had no chance. He could of just killed that one mother and her child, but he twisted her request to not harm her child by having her do it.
You absolutely need to follow through with reading the rest of part 5, especially because it had some really terrible translations up until recently. I can understand Giorno being the least favorite because he's really just a goodie two shoes who kills people, but part 5 is genuinely one of the best parts in all of Jojos. It's really only topped by SBR and Jojolion and not reading them as a jojo fan is doing yourself a disservice. I mean, you're missing HAT JOSUKE! How can you miss hat Josuke! Otherwise fantastic video and very entertaining, lmao
you know what is funny? I know that Shin Megami Tensei have its own alignment system, but damn I would love to see him analyzing some character from the series...
As an anime only fan, I can't speak for every part. But for the anime, Part 5 is the best. The best characters, tension, fights, and story. BUT, everyone had their own opinions and we should all Jojo on our own terms because everyone is different and valid in their personal preferences
I definitely agree with your assessment. He's definitely chaotic evil, albeit with emphasis on the evil part rather the chaotic part since he's willing to play by the rules when it suits him. That being said, I would classify his chess hustling as neutral evil or even lawful evil, depending on whether he outright cheats or is just really good at chess. If he plays by the rules he's still technically making an honest living, so for all intents and purposes it's lawful evil.
LOVE the fact you discovered Jojo through Antfish's JJBA Abridged series! (Same for me!) BTW, no dunking on Patrick Seitz's work on the English dub, but I swear, Antfish's Tim Curry DIO voice is legit the only thing I picture when I see a still of him or a meme. XD
And the next thing you're going to say is "Duh he's chaotic evil. I don't even need to watch the video"! Duh he's chaotic evil. I don't even need to watch the vide... WHAT?!
I agree with this, except i thought he didn’t want Ice to kill himself. DIO just wanted a little bit of blood, but the dude killed himself instead. Ice’s fanaticism was the reason why DIO didn’t trust him with the Heaven plan, right?
I'll be honest. I was hoping for the Tiger King episode to win. Not because I didn't want a DIO episode, because I definitely did. But DIO is one of *those* types of characters, a character who's probably going to always be relevant in media discussion. He's not going anywhere. But Tiger King feels like it has a very obvious expiration date, and it's already getting stale, meaning the window to do a video on it and for people to care is closing rapidly. And I think that's a shame because doing a DnD alignment for Joe is...interesting. He's a character in a lot of ways, he's utterly bonkers, but he's a real person who shares the same world as you and me. Seeing you make an alignment call for another living, breathing human being carries some interesting weight behind it, and the idea of your tackling that fascinates me. Not sure when we'll get another good chance to tackle one of the strangest 'verses out there: The Real World.
I personally felt like his initial systematic approach to his evil actually made him lawful evil to start, he had a code/system and he stuck to it, and him becoming more unhinged on a journey to chaotic was his “arc”. But I guess that’s just a difference in how we’re viewing lawful vs. Chaotic.
While I wouldn't call part 5 anywhere near the best, it's a shame to just stop right there, considering there's still parts 6 and 7, along with the ongoing 8.
Btw, for those keeping score, I counted and the only times Dio managed to get alignment other than CE was 11 times, and only 4 of them were Neutral aligned.
I just love how there's simply not enough place in the Chaotic Evil cell for his mark to move further down that path. And I also find it funny how quickly he ran out of space. 😹
What I love about DIO is that he is clearly a Chaotic Evil character and yet he tries his best and succeeds at making everyone on his side see him as a more lawful kind of guy alingment-wise. I mean we even have that scene in part 6 where he goes "oh there's no such thing as a weak stand because blablabla" and in part 3 we see his true nature as he loses his mind insulting Joseph's stand as the weakest after being almost destroyed by it's hamon
Can you please do what D&D alignment is: Doom Guy/Doom Slayer The Phantom Thieves Ainz Al Gown (Overlord) Edelgard or Dimitri or Claude (Fire Emblem: Three Houses)
I would have given him a LOT more LE ding because while he is an absolutely horrible person he does have long term planning and the ability to create and lead a global organization containing dozens of powerful individuals.
Hey, I've been binging your videos and wanted to suggest some Fate/Zero characters for an alignment review. I think Kiritsugu Emiya would be especially interesting. If you wanted to do F/SN, I'd say Archer is the most interesting character for that series to examine.
I still strongly disagree with him starting as chaotic evil. I don't disagree with him ending there, but I believe a combination of him growing up in the slums and struggling to survive in an abusive household would put him at chaotic neutral at worst. Also, him poisoning his father is Lawful Evil at worst, Dario was a monster. I'd even call it Lawful Neutral, since Dio was using that to escape his abusive household and avenged his mother, who was a genuinely good person. Granted, he'd be considered chaotic evil by the end of episode 1 anyways, but I just feel like he didn't truly start evil, but he did almost immediately became evil.
@@TheLoadingCrew and his father was Dario Brando. I agree with that almost always being a chaotic evil act, like with Kylo or OG Broly, but I'm not entirely sure about this particular case.
Of course he would be Chaotic Evil. I still watched the video just to be sure, I was expecting some reaching argument of "He wasn't actually as evil as he says he was cuz Part 6!" but I'm pleasantly surprised. Dio is also a great example of Chaotic Evil that isn't retarded. He kicks dogs for fun, but he's still smart enough to have an explanation to get out of trouble.
Wouldn’t most of these be Neutral Evil? I mean Chaotic is acts to directly spite others, while Neutral is pure self, and I see Dio as a pure evil character, who definitely has chaotic evil tendencies with JoJo, but every other act is just as cruel
I've seen every single episode of JoJo currently avaliable, played the game where DIO wins, and have fully read DIO's diary in the form of JoJo: Over Heaven. He's chaotic evil. No question.
10:07 I'm going to do a bit of rules lawyering a bit here and say that Chilling Touch (or Chill Touch) is a ranged necromancy spell in dungeons and dragons that does not deal cold damage but instead is a spectral hand that grips onto a person's skin and causes it to rot away, dealing what is known as necrotic damage. Just think about Tomura's quirk from MHA but as a ranged attack. Also we see multiple times DIO using a Legendary Action during his turn, while in fact a Legendary Action can only be used at the end of another person's turn.

XD
He went about 20 damn dings without changing position on the alignment chart.
And the next thing you're going to say is "Duh he's chaotic evil. I don't even need to watch the video"!
Duh he's chaotic evil. I don't even need to watch the vide... WHAT?!
Princess Bubblegum from Adventure Time
I agree with this, except i thought he didn’t want Ice to kill himself. DIO just wanted a little bit of blood, but the dude killed himself instead. Ice’s fanaticism was the reason why DIO didn’t trust him with the Heaven plan, right?
9:28 first actual change in alligment
This was insanely fun and entertaining, Thank YOU!!!
You where expecting the joker to be the embodiment of Chaotic Evil, but it was I, DIO!
3:40 thats not a powerbomb thats a chokeslam lol
You expected a new Alignment Video, but it was me DIO!
I personally felt like his initial systematic approach to his evil actually made him lawful evil to start, he had a code/system and he stuck to it, and him becoming more unhinged on a journey to chaotic was his “arc”.
But I guess that’s just a difference in how we’re viewing lawful vs. Chaotic.
Ha jokes on you, you will never compare to me i giorno giovanna's piano
Im suprised the measure for alignment hasnt left yet like come on the amount of force DIO is putting on that chaotic evil is beyond dumb
Your next line is "I knew he was chaotic evil before watching the video, toyu!"
An alignment of Hollow Knight characters would be grand!
I do love that the mask turns you evil yet Dio was already as evil as you can get. The only difference was that he now had vampire powers.
Your next line is: "That intro was straight up glorious."
“Also, because I’ll never hear the end of it.” *Deep breath* *candy crush ad*
hahah!! perfect
Can you believe that in at least one timeline, DIO became godlike?
DIO truly became DIO.
SEPHIROTH!!!! DUNDUNDUNDUNDUN
SEPHIROTH!!!!
Mad respect for the opening of holy diver at the start of the dio cosplay
Can you please do what D&D alignment is:
Doom Guy/Doom Slayer
The Phantom Thieves
Ainz Al Gown (Overlord)
Edelgard or Dimitri or Claude (Fire Emblem: Three Houses)
when he said that part 5 is the worst I knew his knowledge about jojo was trash
..... Why stuart... Why... Also due to how unapologetically evil dio is i will create a new 10th alinement called "bel"
Still have yet to watch JoJo, but I’m curious how much I’ll learn from this.
I know it was a joke in the Dracula video, but I’d actually love to see one of these on Hector and Isaac
But dio healed pucci's foot. Isn't that just one point for neutral good?
Not if he had some ulterior motive, which is likely, considering who he is.
contras you made a drinking game. Take a shot for every time Dio does a chaotic evil act. I swear you won't die from it
I would have given him a LOT more LE ding because while he is an absolutely horrible person he does have long term planning and the ability to create and lead a global organization containing dozens of powerful individuals.
Drinking Game: Take a shot whenever he says "Chaotic Evil".
i'm not responsible for your death
Wow. I didn't realize I shared my birthday with an anime character.
You were expecting an alignment video, but it was ME, DIO!
Hey, I've been binging your videos and wanted to suggest some Fate/Zero characters for an alignment review. I think Kiritsugu Emiya would be especially interesting. If you wanted to do F/SN, I'd say Archer is the most interesting character for that series to examine.
His stand isn't "The World", it's
*ZA WARUDO!*
**time stopping noises**
Dio has the same v.a as Ragna
Ragna would hate him.
Granted, he'd be considered chaotic evil by the end of episode 1 anyways, but I just feel like he didn't truly start evil, but he did almost immediately became evil.
he poisoned his father dude...
@@TheLoadingCrew and his father was Dario Brando. I agree with that almost always being a chaotic evil act, like with Kylo or OG Broly, but I'm not entirely sure about this particular case.
I like the FF6 OST that you used. Very Nice Touch.
Yes thank the heavens yes.
Edit : well now you know where giorno gets his bland personality from its dio
I honestly like Giorno, and the rest of the part 5 cast, except Fugo he was kinda boring. I like the plot of part 5
Considering he only got to use his stand once... yeah I can't say I blame you.
Username checks out.
I was NOT expecting the AWAKEN drop
0:30 Oh dear Lord! XD

I'm going to do a bit of rules lawyering a bit here and say that Chilling Touch (or Chill Touch) is a ranged necromancy spell in dungeons and dragons that does not deal cold damage but instead is a spectral hand that grips onto a person's skin and causes it to rot away, dealing what is known as necrotic damage. Just think about Tomura's quirk from MHA but as a ranged attack.
Also we see multiple times DIO using a Legendary Action during his turn, while in fact a Legendary Action can only be used at the end of another person's turn.
i'm playing pathdungeons :P my table, my rules
