This was a really great recipe. I had a difficult time trusting the baking soda and sale soak for the dates but it worked and was fine. I added a little splash of Sherry and some homemade rum soaked raisins and it was delicious!

Made this last night and it turned out fantastic!
I used fresh dates (had to pit them) and used walnuts.
I left the dates a little chunky, and it turned out great.

I made this bread recipe...its simple, lovely rustic texture, mild sweet, awesome in taste...in my oven it took 55 min to bake...at 180 degrees, when bamboo scewer is inserted after 55 min...I found that it's slightly sticking...Then I further bake it at 160 degrees for 10 min and rested the bread inside the oven for 15 more minutes till stickiness gets removed...
Thank you so much for sharing this recipe...

Bread looks beautiful!...and I cut into mine too soon like You!...but a great tip I learned, was to always allow a loaf to cool for an hour before slicing!...and that’s what I’m now going to do!...it needs to rest!...it will taste and slice far better!...Thank You for sharing!

Love this recipe. I added 2 Tbs grated orange rind and 1/4 cup of fresh orange juice that replaces 1/4 cup of the water. I love the combination of dates and oranges. I do bake both versions though as one of my grandsons is not a fan of the orange rind or juice.

My mother in law made a lovely date and walnut loaf, she added the butter into warm date mixture then mixed eggs, then added to dry ingredients. It was moist and delicious, guess it's easy if you don't have a processor. I need to make this again, thanks Diana NZ

Okay...I've made this twice in the last month and been inundated with requests. Once for a church fundraiser bizarre, and then for an art auction. About 40-50 people present at each event. Both times mind you, someone invariably has had the sponsor get on the P.A., and announce...."attention, attention.....whoever made the date nut bread, could they please come forward." I think I'll just put the UA-cam link on a note in front of the bread from now on! Real show-stopper.....thx so much!

Just a quick tip: You can purchase fresh dates that are so soft they will melt in your mouth. They are grown in the Palm Springs, CA area and are the best dates you'll ever eat and you'll wonder why you ever bought those dried up dates from the store. I lived there for fifteen years and have just moved back to Michigan but I still order them from Shields Date Farm. They're pricey with the shipping but oh so worth it. Thanks for posting an excellent video!

Stephanie, God bless you! I follow your recipes exclusively and people have asked me if I've taken professional courses in baking, your recipes and instructions are so good.
For this date walnut bread, the first time I made it, found it slightly dryish, the next time I added another egg and also went generous with the sugar.
It was over the same day, that good!!! 🥰🥰🥰

You are an excellent teacher and just like Hema Masiwal said, you have a beautiful way of making something complicated (in my head) easy and simple. Great recipe! Brought back a few memories. NMy mom use to make date nut bread back in the 60’s/early 70’s but without the cinnamon…not sure about the vanilla. Seems like this was a thing in the NE back then?
Anyway I made it following your recipe and wow! The cinnamon really is a great addition. Thoughts on ginger? Really like that pungent ginger flavor.
